**Review of "Black Sand Beach 3: Have You Seen the Darkness?" by Richard Fairgray**
Rating: 3/5
In "Black Sand Beach 3: Have You Seen the Darkness?" Richard Fairgray continues his eerie and imaginative graphic novel series that blends supernatural mysteries with nostalgic summer adventures. Perfect for fans of Gravity Falls and Rickety Stitch, this installment follows Dash and his friends as they confront a sinister evil lurking in their summer vacation home.
Dash and his crew uncover unsettling truths from the past when they discover Dash's forgotten journal entries, revealing a dark presence manipulating ghostly figures that threaten their very identities. This sets the stage for a chilling showdown against a face-stealing monster that has haunted Black Sand Beach for decades.
Fairgray's storytelling is enriched by his knack for weaving together suspenseful plot twists with a nostalgic backdrop reminiscent of classic beach towns. The narrative is driven by the quest to unravel mysteries from the past while facing the looming threat of the Darkness that seeks to consume everything in its path.
The artwork in "Black Sand Beach 3" maintains the series' signature style, with illustrations that capture both the eerie atmosphere and the emotional depth of the characters. Fairgray's use of visuals enhances the storytelling, creating a visually compelling experience that draws readers deeper into the mysteries of Black Sand Beach.
While the novel succeeds in delivering thrills and spine-chilling moments, it occasionally struggles to maintain a consistent pace, with some plot developments feeling rushed or underexplored. However, the strengths of the series lie in its ability to evoke a sense of adventure and mystery that will resonate with readers of all ages.
Overall, "Black Sand Beach 3: Have You Seen the Darkness?" is a worthy addition to the series, offering an engaging blend of supernatural suspense, summer escapades, and nostalgic charm. It's a captivating read for anyone seeking a spooky and thrilling graphic novel experience.
I love this series more with each book. This has been my favorite so far. My kids have read each one too, and they also love this series. I'm going to check out book 4 now because I need to know.
Dash and his friends are trying to hunt down the monsters that have been plaguing them all summer. Despite finding his journal from last summer, Dash still doesn’t remember anything; but is trying to repair his relationship with his stepmom. Meanwhile, in 1994 we see Kasey and Mabel’s origin story and find out the identity of the monster hunting the kids.
This book is amazingly scary for a middle grade graphic novel! Move over RL Stine, Black Sand Beach is here to take your crown! If your kids want something scarier to read, or are fans of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, this book will be a hit. *I* love this book. Best of the series so far!!
Black Sand Beach #3: Have You Seen the Darkness? by Richard Fairgray is a heart pumping, spooky graphic novel that's perfect for mid-grade to older kids who enjoy Goosebumps, Gravity Falls, and Ghost Squad. Black Sand Beach #3 follows Dash and his friends as they try to uncover the mysteries surrounding their beloved beach and Dash's forgotten summer. The vibrant art and multiple timelines creates a jolting aura that gives the horror of the monsters a surreal feel. The art is well done but I was lost a few times with regards to the storyline.

The third installment in the Black Sand Beach series, Have You Seen the Darkness, is the best to date. The story becomes more gripping and compelling with each volume. In this volume, Dash and his friends must confront the monster met in the previous volume. With the story split between two timelines, readers progress in Dash's story while also learning who the two girls are that he made friends with the previous summer, and how they ended up with the monster. The ending is, of course, a cliffhanger, and one that will leave readers eager for volume 4. This whole series is highly recommended for middle-grade horror lovers.
Number 3 in the series Black Sand Beach. There are competing evils out to get Dash and his crew of friends. A monster that eats humans so it can wear their faces and the Darkness.
This issue takes us back to the '90s where two sisters were taken by the shapeshifting monster and used to escape the trap the monster hunter set.
I'm coming into this from #3, but it hasn't been an issue. I'm able to catch what happened before and not lose what is going on in the current issue.
It's a creepy little graphic novel, and I love it! Well written and the artwork is fantastic. I'm looking forward to the next installment and plan to get the first 2 I missed.
Black Sand Beach #3 is due for publication on June 21, 2022. Keep your eye out for it.
Thanks to @netgalley, Pixel+Ink, and Richard Fairgray for the chance to read this eArc in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.
I didnt read the fist 2 books but the story was amazing and so was the art style! I did find the story complicated at times but some people really like that
I love a colorful middle grades graphic novel, and the affordances of. a comics/graphic novel series for young readers. Recommended!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Black Sand Beach #3: Have You Seen the Darkness? by Richard Fairgray is a YA horror graphic novel that is the third graphic novel in the series. Even though I hadn't read the first two, I still enjoyed this one. It will appeal to fans of Stranger Falls or Gravity Falls. The story revolves around a group of kids who discover that their summer town is in the grasp of evil monsters. The storyline involves ghosts and monsters, and the kids who are trying to defeat the evil before it takes over.
Overall, Black Sand Beach #3: Have You Seen the Darkness? is a YA horror graphic novel that will satisfy any older tween or teen looking for a spine-tingling adventure. I did take off 3 stars, because the monster in this book grossed me out, and I found this book too creepy to recommend for middle schoolers. From the cover, I thought that this would be a wholesome family-friendly adventure. But, there were way too many tentacles, tongues, and face-stealing for my taste. I would recommend this book for older tweens and teens honestly. If you're intrigued by the description, you can check out this book when it comes out in June!
