I really enjoyed reading this book. It is such a unique and creative way to inspire the reader to think outside of the box and create each day. It would make a great gift for any artist or creative soul.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A great book for kids who are creative and love art. Not a good idea for a library though.
Make This Book Wild is a fabulous activity book that allows young people to express and investigate their relationship to nature. The illustrations are fun, bright, and lively. The book invites the child to play, be creative, and explore the wild world. It's interactive quality makes it an unlikely purchase for the library, as we avoid books that encourages the reader to write in them. However, it's on the top of the list of gifts for my own wild child.
Make This Book Wild is a guided creativity journal of sorts with activities to help kids tap into their own creativity. This would be great entertainment during travel as it provides kids a purpose and motivation to examine their environment.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* Cool nature style of a wreck this journal like book! Great book for getting kids outside.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Make this Book Wild is a beautiful book designed for children to use nature to fill their book with natural, wild treasures, finds and decor and make lasting and fun discoveries and memories while doing so.
Each page is beautifully designed and has some absolutely amazing ideas and creativity.
My only criticism with this book which lowered it to 4 stars for me, was the age range the book is for. I think it should be aimed at a little higher as I think the designings inside would be too much for a younger child to read and understand. I think this would be better aimed at aged 10-14 year old children. This would be perfect for the younger ages if the pages were more simplified for them to use and understand.
I think this would be a great idea to use in a forest school too!
As this book is published in the UK. I wanted to make sure it would 'translate' well to an Australian audience...and it does.
I can imagine this as a great gift at the start of school holidays, as it encourages children to get out into nature, and really take the time to notice things.
Using what you have seen, and what you have gathered, you can then use the prompts on the books ot create...and at the end of the holidays you will have a great scrap books of everything you have seen and done.
So, I am obviously not the intended audience of this book, but what a super fun and whimsical adventurous book it is. I love the idea of rain painting, mud monsters, cloud gazing, grass friends, and really, there doesn't seem to be a page I wasn't oohing and aahing over. My only complaint is that there seems to not be a lot of blank space to really make it their own. It is filled with wild and fantastic doodles and artwork that will keep one busy for a while, and even like others have said, I don't believe kids will be the only ones to pick this up. I definitely see big kids at heart also being fans, and why not. It's just darling! I really appreciate the creative thinking outside of the box, and outside in general. Kudos!
*I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. This review is my own opinion*
Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing - Wide Eyed Editions for the ARC of this.
This is such a cool premise, though it’s hard to tell in ebook form how well it would work in real life adding found objects. I liked the illustrations, and it looks like a fun book to get kids excited about being outside.
This is such a fun book that kids will really enjoy. It plays into the natural curiosity and imagination of children with fun activities to do either outdoors or with items collected while outside. I will be purchasing a copy for my classroom, as well as for each of my grandkids.
This is a fun book, although parts seem a little contrived. The idea is to take it outside and use it to have fun and do art. I wish there was more open-ended stuff and less specific instructions. I'd prefer more of the kinds of things like make fingerprints in mud on this page and use a feather to paint on this page, while this book fills the pages with its own art and has you do things like add nature to decorate it. Still quite fun, as all of the author's books are. I may recommend it in my nature magazine in the future.
What a great book for kids and one that will get them outdoors to explore and discover. The idea is to take this book along; no worries about its getting grubby as that is the idea. Fill it with all sorts of thoughts and things relating to nature.
The book opens with an introduction of how to use this one and then goes on to many short sections. Some of these include Searching for Rainbows, Shell collecting, Dragon hunt, Eyes on the trees, Tiny treasures, Leaf printing, Garden goblins, Cloud gazing, and Bee friendly, along with many more. All in all, the perfect companion and encouragement to get out and enjoy the natural world.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this engaging and beautifully illustrated title. All opinions are my own.
This title will be published on 12 April 22.
My son loved doing the activities in this book. It was a chance to learn yet relax all at the same time. Great resource for the younger kids that need to do an activity while they learn.
This is a book that I will be gifting without a doubt. Make This Book Wild allows you to make this book yours, with the importance of nature and being outdoors, you can enjoy this book in a variety of ways and year-round. Fiona Danks and Jo Schofield have created a book that makes being outdoors fun again, interesting, and a learning experience, it is inclusive so everyone in the family can enjoy partaking in making this book wild.
I loved this book so much that I immediately preordered a copy. My nieces will adore it. The projects are fun, absolutely free with their creativity, and the book is just beautifully put together. It's like a pocket adventure for the imagination.
This is the exact kind of book I wish I'd had as a child, and I can't wait to sing its praises and recommend it to everyone I meet.
Make This Book Wild is a fun interactive scrapbook for kids of all ages to fill with treasures and drawings while out in nature. The fun illustrations and fonts on each page are eye catching and engaging, making you want to look on and search for what your next scrapbook adventure will be. This will be a great gift for any nature loving kid or family.
I love the idea of this activity book. There are some really great, interactive pages that I think kids would love, however, I find the font distracting and difficult to read. I like the font on the cover, but think it's too much for each individual page.
As a parent who tries to achieve as much nature time as possible in hopes of raising a productive and healthy child -- I couldn't have asked for a more FUN and ENCHANTING book.
The illustrations are beautiful and paired with whimsical writings, this book is a mini-adventure for any child. I loved the thoughtfulness that goes into the introductory pages and that it explains the importance of staying safe but also the duty we have to respecting the nature and wildlife around us. That's an important lesson that a lot of children miss out on.
Jumping into the activities - this book has everything from fairy warriors and dragon hunts to rain painting and shell collecting. Each page opens the imagination to so many new things - from the tiny and beautiful aspects of nature to learning about yourself and truly seeing things in a different light.
My favorite part? That this book is also a journal for the child to document their time in nature.
I strongly recommend this to ALL parents. While I'm fortunate to have a child who loves nature as much as I do, I think this book could get even the couch potatoes outside and having fun.
