This was a cute romance with a classic friend's to lovers trope set inside a local bookstore in small town Nevada. Jack and Lizzy have been friends for 20 years-just friends. When Lizzy takes an impromptu vacation from work to visit Jack in his hometown of Weldon, things start to develop between the two that are very un-friend like. With their lives heading in two separate directions they struggle to figure out what they want to do, who they want to be, and if there is room for their relationship in their lives. Booked on a Feeling was a quick read with lots, and I mean lots, of miscommunications and insecurities, so much so that I got very frustrated with the 2 MC's multiple times throughout the story. Still, I had a fun time reading it and enjoyed a classic HEA.
A fine read that is completely forgettable. Everything went a little too well to be believable or fulfilling in any way. The physical part of the romance was mostly a series of fade to black moments. I liked the friendship more than the romance. It was also pretty repetitive and too long. Overall, it missed the mark for me, but was an easy enough way to pass the time.
In this latest instalment of this small cozy small town romance series, we have Lizzy a big shot lawyer who just won her first trial case as head chair, and is need of a small vacation as her anxiety has never been worse. Enter Jack her childhood best friend and the one person who has always been with her. She decides to spend a few weeks in the small town Jack and his family lives in to reset and recharge. Jack has been holding onto feeling for Lizzy since they were 10, and after 2 decades he is ready to either finally get together or let go of his hope of romance forever.
I have not read many friends to lovers that i have enjoyed but this one his the spot nicely, with steamy scenes, a book store and reading playing a huge role, lots of pining, and great writing.
This one just didn’t end up working out for me. I ultimately ended up DNFing the book shortly after halfway in. I am giving a rating based on what I did read, and why I chose not to finish. This book will not be featured on my IG account since it’s a DNF.
Although I thought the author made a good attempt at getting the reader interested by means of writing a book about book lovers for book lovers, it fell flat. I struggled at every turn to get immersed and stay engaged. I did like the representation of handling anxiety, and the friends to lovers trope, but ultimately it was a miss.
If you keep up with my reading (which isn’t too hard to do since it has been pretty slow this year but I am on a mission to change that) you know I loved The Dating Dare and A Sweet Mess. In matter of fact, I pronounced myself a fan of the series, so when Booked on a Feeling was about to come out I was as happy as one romance lover can be.
I was looking forward to get back to a small town Weldon as I missed that cozy feeling this series provides.
In the third installment, when it comes to that cozy feeling, the author didn’t disappoint.
However, the sense of humour lacked and after I finished the book I realized I didn’t laugh out loud. Not even once, and that realization turned into disappointment.
The writing style was good and I flew through the pages.
Still, even if the chemistry between the two MCs was good and their reasoning for not acting on their feelings made sense at time, after a while all the miscommunication (or the lack of it) and “will they or won’t they” agenda started to get on my nerves, and I just wanted them to find the way to each other and be over with.
The obvious story development without any surprises or the fact that the main “bad guy” was countries away didn’t help either.
Overall, I did like the book but it isn’t even comparable to it’s ancestors.
Yet, I am happy I read Booked on a Feeling and will gladely continue with the series if the author decides to write more books (which I hope she will).
I would give this a solid 3.5 stars. Booked on a Feeling follows Lizzy Chung, a high-power lawyer from LA who, on a whim, decides to take 3 weeks off from her career when she finds that it doesn't bring her the joy and feeling of accomplishment it should. She moves to a small town just outside of the Sierra Nevada, which is the hometown of her best friend since childhood, Jack Park. Much to Jack's delight, since he's been in love with Lizzy for over a decade. The two take on the endeavor of remaking a bookstore in Jack's hometown together.
I don't have much to say about the book. For starters, Jayci Lee's writing was a bit above the average for contemporary romance. She has descriptive writing. She has great sensory descriptions to fully immerse you in the story. Despite the quality of writing, I think the story itself is one that fades into a large pool of contemporary romances out there. The chemistry between Lizzy and Jack was sort of there? but was also heavily relying on the friends part of friends to lovers. The main issue, time and time again, with friends to lovers is the lack of relationship development. Because the characters are already best friends, more often than not the author doesn't put as much effort into developing the attraction between these two characters.
I liked this but I didn't love it.
I truly wanted to love this book. Instead, I really did not enjoy it. I thought the two main characters were so frustrating and their back and forth was annoying. For best friends they certainly didn’t communicate well, and by the time the book was halfway through I was just waiting for it to be over. Too bad too cause I loved the premise. A book set mostly in a bookstore!? Yes please. Unfortunately it just didn’t do it for me.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a charming friends-to-lovers Romance that also had a small town Bookstore element that really made Booked on a Feeling the feel-good story that it is. Friends-to-Lovers is not my favourite romance trope but with this story, it truly worked so well! Lizzy and Jack are a darling duo with a wholesome connection, funny banter, and relatable backstories and struggles in life. The Bookish aspect of this story was so sweet and was reminiscent of Book Lovers by Emily Henry, what reader doesn't love a book about books!? absolutely adore the way that Jayci Lee tells a story and this series made me fall in love with her writing, Booked on a Feeling is a wonderful addition to the Sweet Mess Series.
This book is made for Romance lovers, fans of Dual POV and those passionate about books!
Thank you so much to Net Galley and St. Martin's Press for this eARC.
“Just so you know, I could never stop loving you. That’s like telling my heart to stop breathing.”
Booked on a Feeling is a fun, light, friend to lovers trope read that is good any time of the year! Lizzy and Jack were completely devoted to each other throughout the entire book. I definitely recommend this read if you enjoy seeing best friends turn their relationship into more!
I have to admit that the first half of this book was slow, imo. I had a really hard time rooting for either character, let alone any kind of relationship. There were too many secrets and things left unsaid.
Once Jack and Lizzie started exploring their feelings for each other, it opened up their channels of communication, and then I was fully invested!! Both Lizzie and Jack are unhappy in their current lives and need to find what truly makes them happy before they can make each other happy.
The quality of the epilogue took my review up an entire star!!! I was going to give 3-stars, and then after the epilogue I changed it to 4-stars. It was such a fantastic way to wrap up this book! Great job by Jayci Lee. I definitely want to go back and read the other books in the series now!
All in all, it was slow to begin with but once the characters started opening up about their feelings I finished the 2nd half of the book in a flash! I definitely recommend you stick with this book until the end!!
“But I know now that I am good enough for you, because no one knows you like I do. No one can ever love you as much as I do.”
Attorney Lizzy Chung is burnt out, so she leaves her life in LA to visit her best friend in the small town of Weldon where he works at his family's brewery. Lizzy lives out one of her dreams and helps the local bookstore owner revamp her store, while realizing her relationship with Jack is beginning to change. It's another fun book in the Sweet Mess series.
This book is a bit too all over the place. One minute Lizzy in LA trying to make partner at her law firm and with zero explanation she is all of a sudden in a different town where her best friend Jack lives for a 3 week leave of absence.. Both clearly have feelings for each other but you really get no background on their relationship other than they grew up together. Both mc’s spend most of their time questioning if they really have feelings for the other. It was just too repetitive and to me skipping over major details.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this ARC.
This book description sounded great - a second chance romance that involves a bookstore! - but there were several issues I couldn’t get past. The two MCs are madly in love with each other at the start of the novel, so there wasn't much tension. Several lines throughout the novel were so bad that they made me not want to keep reading (i.e., "be still my throbbing vagina"; "all he wanted to do was f*** her mouth with his tongue"). Overall, both MCs seemed very immature.
This one was just disappointing. I had to DNF it, mainly because it read like a YA book. I was 30% into it, and nothing was keeping me interested in the story. It was so hard to connect with the characters, there was no chemistry between them, and it kind of just felt like we were thrown into things with no background.
Love a good rom-com set in a small town bookstore! This book was really sweet and a really lighthearted beach read. I really enjoyed this book and getting to know the characters. Best friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes and this one did not disappoint. I look forward to reading more from this author! O
Lizzy "Overachiever" Chung, Esq. has her life mapped out neatly:
* Become a lawyer. Check.
* Join a prestigious law firm. Check.
* Make partner. In progress.
You just know that when things start off with lists they don't really end up being that simple.
I had so much fun reading this book. No only was it cute and fun it was also so well written.
Lizzy and Jack stole my heart here. I loved so many aspects of his story.
I didn't want it to end!
This was so heartfelt, it's everything I crave when I think of a warm, feel good story. I loved Lizzy and Jack, I think they were so sweet and had such a sweet love story. My favorite trope is childhood friends to lovers, where he's more into her and this definitely delivered.
Thank you #Netgalley for an early read of #BookOnAFeeling
3 ⭐️ A very soft, sweet, easy read. The characters were pretty likable and the relationship was super sweet. I do think the “save a bookstore” is a little bit of a classic romcom hallmark theme. Gives off very similar vibes to Book Lovers. Was labeled a friends to lovers trope but I think Miscommunication/ stubbornness played a big role and was a huge trope so if that frustrates you, you may want to throw you’re book but I thought it was well done. Not as funny as previous books by this author. Anxiety representation was well done. Wish Jacks character had been fleshed out a little more.
Unfortunately a bit of a let down after the first two installments, which I really really enjoyed.
This novel still gave you the warm fuzzy feelings but without the laughing at loud- naturally funny writing style the author showed in the first two books.
Still and enjoyable read through and through.
A cute rom-com that reminds me of Legally Blonde meets Pride and Prejudice. The writing style is easy to read which is really nice.
This was a cute story friends to lovers story. I wasn't extremely attached to the characters, but it was fun enough. I don't like how it all wrapped up quickly on the last chapter.
