This book brings us Gabe Kelley and Charlotte Rhodes. Gabe is a Navy Seal, who spent a weekend with a woman and left. He soon finds out she left him with more than just the memories.
Charlotte is Alexis best friend and godmother to the child she had as a result of her night with Gabe. . When Alexis dies, Charlottle contacts gabe about his daughter.
This book has murder and intrigue and romance and single parents. All things to love! Gabe and Charlotte come together to help raise his surprise daughter from that one night stand. There is danger all around and Gabe protects them both. Along the way, hearts get involved. I loved the two of them as a couple!
Great story again by this writing pair.
I like this authors work so I usually get preorders but I this this wasn’t my fav of her books as I didn’t realise it was a surprise child trope and although I liked the writing style I just couldn’t get over this so unfortunately I had to DNF half way through but I would read more of her books in the future
Gabe Kelly remembers the woman he spent the weekend with but he is more than shocked, surprised to find out that he is a father and that she has passed. Charlotte Rhodes was a friend of Alexis the baby's mother and when she finds out that her ex has filed for custody of the baby she goes to Gabe with her concerns that she thinks he was the one who killed her. Now the two of them work together with the baby and find the killer A good book.
I received this Arc from Netgalley. Thank you for the chance to read this book early. My review is honest and 100% my own thoughts about the book.
Oh this book pulled at my heart. To find out a woman you had a weekend fling with one time last year had been Murdered and to leave a baby behind. I loved Gabe’s personality where he couldn’t leave this poor child behind even with the slight chance that this child was even his.
The author wrote this single father really well. Especially a man stepping up and loving a child without even knowing if it is his. I loved the relationships that are built.
I loved.the book, the characters, and the plot. Could not.put the book down. That is a normal occurrence when reading books by Katie. Looking forward to many more
High 2 stars
This book is okay if you're looking for a fast, predictable read that's light on both the promised suspense and romance. There's nothing fundamentally wrong with it, and in the broader framework of a Leslie North-endorsed, SEAL's [insert adjective] Baby novel, it's not bad at all. I just felt like the emphasis was placed in all the wrong areas, or at least not in the right ones.
The story is told in the first person, alternating between Charlotte and Gabe, sometimes in the same chapter. Unlike other alternating first-, person novels, it does not preface the chapter (or chapter section) with a name, and sometimes you have to read several sentences before knowing whose head you are currently spending time in. I don't love the first person viewpoint as a rule, but as I had just finished an outstanding one (different author but also with SEALs), I was feeling adventurous.
It's funny because I think the story would have played out just as well without the suspense or even the SEAL angle. The suspense here seems mostly used as a violent kick-in-the-pants for two stubbornly independent people to see that maybe being together would be even better than doing it alone. That said, I didn't feel any particular chemistry between the two. As they sort of knew each other back in high school, perhaps having a little history together could have helped.
If you want a fast read and have low-to-middling expectations, you'll be okay with this book. For me, I might just pass the next time another SEAL has a surprise baby.
I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher and Netgalley. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion.
An enjoyable beach read. The story was well paced and the storyline was engaging. Somewhat predictable but exactly what was expected.
rating 4/5
this book was one helluva romance, after so long i read something so authentically romantic, sort of a cliche and the plot was very orthodox, the godmother and the unknowing father. the whole book gave romance and life as we know it vibes. the forced proximity the moments between Charlotte and Gabe are so beautiful.
i like how the whole plot progressed at a very nice pace, it was not too slow nor too fast.
the book was also funny and witty. it was for a moment slightly thrilling and suspenseful but not too much.
reading this literally reminded the authentic old school romance book and it was seriously a very nice read.
i like how Gabe being a SEAL isn't portrayed as cocky or alpha male type, he is described as a sweet and protective guy who protects and is calm in any situation.
when on a day you feel very overwhelmed by everything, you should read this book. it is not a roller coaster of emotions but a steady and mostly smooth ride till the end.
another great milirtary/SEAL book from Leslie North - never fails to provide a quick romance. A short and sweet romance for those 18+
A cute romantic read, It had great dialogue characters and good writing. Thanks Netgalley for this book.
I don't usually read many romantic suspense stories, because honestly, I hate the suspense part. lol After reading this book though, I might have to change my stance on the that. This story was sweet, with a little spice, and a lot of drama thrown around into the mix. I loved how Gabe was the alfa protector, even though some parts had me wondering how he was going to keep everyone safe. And Charlotte, I love how she went into instant mom mode, and at the same time worked on her own issues. All while trying to stay alive. LOL My only problem, and its a very minor one is that I wish the ending was different. I get why it was like that, but at the same time I was like come on. I will definitely be reading more from the author in the future.
It was an engaging story, q quick read with likeable main characters. The suspense was a little weak.
This is a good book. The two main characters are Charlotte and Gabe. They have each other all their lives. Charlotte owns a bar and Gabe is a navy seal. Charlotte’s best friend is murdered and leaves behind a daughter. The best friend told Charlotte if anything happened to call Gabe. So she did and told him about his daughter, that he didn’t know. He moved in with Charlotte because he didn’t know anything about a baby. He had to wait till the court gave him custody. During that time Charlotte’s house was broken into, her bar was set on fire, and her house was broken into and she was beaten up. Their were lots of problems. But together Charlotte and Gabe found love.
I enjoyed the characters as well as the writing of this book. I will look for other books by this author
Seal team member Gabriel finds himself hesitantly on the way back to his hometown while on leave. He hasn’t visited the town once since he left after his entire family was killed in a car accident. A year ago he tried closing the chapter on his grief but instead got lost in a one night stand. So for the second time Gabriel finds himself at a DC train station, deciding whether or not to actually make the trip to his hometown, when he gets a phone call telling him that there is more than just bad memories waiting for him. His one night stand has been killed in his hometown leaving behind his surprise daughter. That’s all Gabriel needs to kick his butt into gear and board the train to his home town.
Once there he sees that his daughter isn’t alone. She has a lioness protector and godmother, Charlotte. As if learning to parent while navigating the legal barriers involved in claiming his daughter wasn’t enough, Gabriel finds out there is another man claiming to be the child’s father and he’s the man his ex was running from in the first place. Katie Knight’s Seal’s Surprise Daughter takes the reader on a wild ride that when you think the story gets boring Katie Knight throws a fierce curve ball.
Another entertaining and captivating tale by Ms. Knight. Gabe is a Navy Seal and he finds out that a one night stand of his, Alexis, resulted in a daughter. Charlotte was Alexis' friend and is her daughter Savannah's godmother and the one that informs Gabe of Savannah's existence. Someone has murdered her friend and Charlotte is now Savannah's foster mother. Gabe discovers that both Charlotte and Savannah are in danger and he will do anything to protect them. As they both are desperate to keep Savannah safe they also struggle with growing feelings toward each other. This was a wonderful story about two conflicted people coming together for a common cause and finding love in the process. I enjoyed the plot and storyline and the characters were great. The story is filled with emotion and heart, and plenty of sizzling chemistry. Gabe and Charlotte were really wonderful together.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
A predictable, fast read that has action and romance throughout. I was rooting for Gabe, Charlotte, and Savannah through the whole book!
I have read several Leslie North novels, and I could tell that this was written by a guest author. The overall writing was just choppier.
I enjoyed the story, but I thought there were some overall complications with the plot. For example, the purpose of the best friend having the baby instead of the main female character??
It really could have been just as good (if not better) of a story if they would have had the main female protagonist be the birth mom in the story.
Overall, it was ehh...
A big thank you to NetGalley and Relay Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. I found this to be a fun, quick read, but somewhat predictable. The characters Gabe and Charlotte are interesting and have good chemistry. There is also some suspense. 3.5 stars
I know that books like this are really all about an alpha male taking care of the female. Translation? Dangerous situations from which she has to be rescued. It felt like for most of the book the seemingly bad ass female main character would have died multiple times without the main male character's rescue. It was exhausting.
