I loved this book. Idk why it took me so long to read it it. But it was so good! I need the physical copy. It literally had me in from sentence one.
I had never read a book of Debra Webb’s before and I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story of Detective Finley O’Sullivan as the main character. When I discovered that the book was actually part of a series, I was even more excited to see what happens next. I’m sure it could be read as a stand alone, but I enjoyed starting from Book 1. I really loved it, and can’t wait for the next one.
Finley is investigating an old murder of a famous music exec in Nashville, and lots of folks in town have a reason not to dig up old memories. This is a new series by Debra Webb, and she is a perfect read if you want “lite” mystery (not a heavy description of violence and some romance)
I picked up this book, then put it down too many times to count, which is a pity, as I usually like this author. It's a crime thriller with Finley, the central character, being a legal investigator. The writing was excellent and I normally love Debra Webb's books, but I just couldn't connect with the story or even care about the family involved in the central murder, so it was just an okay read for me. The investigation and story was quite detailed and there were twists along the way. I have the next 2 books in this series, so hopefully I'll enjoy them more.
My thanks gores to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in return for my opinion. (I also purchased this book after publication and read it, rather than the ARC.)
I love this author. The way she write is unbelievable great. She never disappoints her readers.
Great book. Thank you Debra
"The Last Lie Told" by Debra Webb is a gripping and suspenseful thriller that keeps readers guessing until the very end. The story follows a determined protagonist who uncovers a web of deceit and danger while searching for the truth. Webb's writing is atmospheric and filled with twists and turns, creating a sense of unease and anticipation. With its intricate plot and well-drawn characters, "The Last Lie Told" is a page-turner that will leave readers on the edge of their seats.
This is my first read of prolific author Debra Webb, a crime novel set in Nashville, Tennessee, featuring legal investigator Finley O’Sullivan, suspended as a lawyer after a courtroom meltdown. She is a grief-stricken widow who has barely moved on from the murder of her beloved husband, Derrick, in their fixer up home and the horrifying trauma she herself experienced. Nothing has changed in the house that she still lives in, and despite powerful forces arraigned against her she will not be deterred from working with her boss and godfather, Jack Finnegan, in a case representing the Legard women, Sophia and her twin daughters, Cecilia and Olivia. Well known in the music business, Lance Legard had been murdered, and the man convicted of the crime has now pointed the finger at Cecilia. This is for readers looking for a undemanding mystery with not as much depth to the characters as I look for so this book just didn't do it all for me. It was good don't get me wrong just not what I love.
Thank you to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for this ARC. #netgalley
This was one I DNF'd about 50 pages in. I may come back to this later this year. I like to come back to books that I do not finish. Sometimes second times the charm. Others seem to enjoy it.
This book was okay for me, I did like how it was told from 2 viewpoint. This book definitely has plenty of lies, twists and turns but I was wanting more to the story. It would be awesome if another book continued with the story as the writing is not bad at all. As it did start off slow I did enjoy it I was just hoping for more.
The Last Lie Told is the first Finley O'Sullivan PI mystery by Debra Webb. Released 1st Aug 2022 from Amazon on their Thomas & Mercer imprint, it's 315 pages and will be available in paperback, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book is currently included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free.
This is an engaging and well told legal mystery. The plotting is solid and action driven. The dialogue is smoothly written and I never found myself yanked out of my suspension of disbelief by clunky passages or ridiculous scenes. That being said, however, people who are intimately familiar with or who work in the legal professions will likely find some of the situations ethically problematic or unbelievable.
Protagonist Finley is well rendered, intelligent, and tough. Although it's a bit trope-y that she's suffering from the fallout from her husband's violent death less than a year prior to the events in this book, the author manages to avoid the larger archetypes and traps of the genre.
Sensitive readers might find the descriptions of violent sexual assault and murder distressing. The language is R-rated, and there are liberal uses of rugged curse words. There are a number of disparate plot threads and not all of them are resolved in their entirety in this book.
Three and a half stars. Worth a look for fans of PI/legal thrillers. Book 2 is due out in March 2023 (and will also be included in the KU library).
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
Read this book!! You will not be disappointed. The alternating storyline kept engaged until the last page. Looking forward to more from Webb as usual.
ust reviewed The Last Lie Told by Debra Webb. #TheLastLieTold #NetGalley
As usual this author did not disappoint. Love the storyline and being back with these characters. I totally recommend this book
I have to admit, I was really excited to read this one. I have been interested in the law for many years and have worked for an attorney so know some of the ins and outs (though minimally compared to them).
The book started out strong and I kept turning the pages to see where the plot was going to lead me. But, it became evident quickly that there were some issues with the research that went into the writing. This is where I struggled.
You certainly can't represent more than one suspect, especially when a murder is involved. You can't break laws or ethical rules at any point when you are an attorney, it is part of the oath you take. This was just the beginning of a myriad of errors, some more forgivable than others.
The story was good and the character development was as well. I just wish the book wasn't tainted with the other issues - it made it hard to look past.
The last lie Told.

Finley O’Sullivan
Also taking on a case,
This case has, so much going on.
Murder, lies cheating.
Starting from years back. One man's issue sets a path of craziness for other's..
Who will be next. Who will it end with..
Loved this Book definitely looking for Book 2 in this series. Again thank you Debra Webb.
The Last Lie Told is really two stories in one. Finley's husband was murdered and she was badly beaten. While struggling just to keep going she takes on a case of a well known man in the Nashville music community who has been murdered. People are pointing to his family as possible suspects and Finley wants to help defend them. There is twists and turns, a lot of lies and twins who leave you wondering what the heck is going on!
Debra Webb writes the kind of thrillers I love to read! There is SO MUCH happening here!… gripping and full of suspense and twists. And that ending is shocking. I never saw those reveals coming… I have to know what happens next!
2.5 stars.
Eh, probably one of the most underwhelming legal thrillers I’ve read in a while. Yeah, I kept reading because something would occasionally happen that’d keep me turning the page - but by about halfway through, I was already looking forward to my next book and being done with this one. Too convoluted of a plot, with different storylines being introduced that had little to no follow-up and left many unanswered questions. Yeah, I get this is going to be a series with Finley, but maybe save some of these untouched plots for future books then, instead of introducing them and never coming back to them again throughout the entire book? I’ll read the next one eventually since it has way better reviews, but I can’t say I’m extremely optimistic.
Regardless, thank you to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of the e-book in exchange for an honest review.

What a awesome start to a new series !!
The last lie told keeps you on the edge of your seat! A great plot with a lot of twists and turns! I couldn’t put it down!
It’s suspenseful, emotional, and unpredictable!
Finley is a legal investigator and while privately trying to investigate her husband’s unsolved murder she takes on a another case. A man who confessed a murder now says he didn’t do it, and claims he confessed for his girlfriend the victims daughter. It’s the start of a complicated case that will keep you guessing till the surprising ending.
I absolutely loved it!!
Finley is my new favorite heroine!
I can’t wait to read the next book in the series !
Highly recommended!
I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion!
This was a very well-written book. I struggle with an unreliable narrator at times, but Webb did such a good job setting up the scene and providing voice to the alternating story-lines. I was engaged the entire time and always wanted to find out what happened next. Looking forward to reading more from Webb!
Great unreliable narrators, and I always love thrillers about twins. Finlay is a strong protagonist; I am excited to read more in this series. Twisty turny complicated enough plot. Loved it.
Thanks to Thomas & Mercer for a free digital galley in exchange for an honest review!
