This is a story of a woman, Gemma, who is being forced to marry a terrible man of her father’s choosing. She goes to matchmaker Mrs. Dove-Lyon to try to facilitate a marriage herself. Colin, a second son suddenly finding himself the heir, has to marry quickly. Colin rescues Gemma and decides she is the one for him. Colin keeps Gemma in the dark about what her father is doing. I felt the author kept us in the dark as well. I kept thinking I missed a chapter somewhere explaining more fully what was happening.
