Hope is trying to start her life again after losing her brother. Cade is trying to get his head on straight after a nasty turn of events in his life.
Circumstances and people looking out for them even though they do not know there are so many people doing that leads them to both be a volunteer at an animal shelter.
I was so involved with this story that each page took me deeper into the lives of Hope and Cade. The author did a magnificent job of making every character in the story so real and close to my heart.
Shadow – the dog Hope adopted is even an amazing part of this story.
This is a book you will be so glad you read.

Debbie Macomber is a favorite of mine, and this book has probably taken the ranks as one of my favorites. I love her ability to write multi-layered characters, while weaving multiple characters' storylines together. This book is a perfect example of that. In The Best Is Yet To Come, there are four main characters that are followed, and each have their own struggles and traumas to overcome, some big and some smaller. By the end of the story, each character sees so much growth and it was so heartwarming to see them in the end. I absolutely loved the main characters in this book and I didn't want their stories to end. I could read about them all day long. I also did not expect the ending of this story - so that was an interesting surprise! I would definitely recommend this book!

The newest Debbie Macomber book ties into the other Oceanside storylines and brings back some of the beloved characters. However, this book has a fun new set of characters that have their own set of issues but work together to better themselves. Not the best Debbie Macomber in my opinion, but the storyline is cute and worth the read.

Hope after losing her brother in combat needs to start over and moves to Oceanside, Washington. Her landlord convinces her to volunteer at the animal shelter and she falls for Shadow a rescue dog that people have given up on. Another shelter volunteer named Cade notices her patience and caring to the dog that attracts him. He is a veteran who saw his best friends die and he had to come back home alone. Little by little we sometimes have to remember that at our lowest moments in life the best is yet to come.

Debbie Macomber does it again. She is the best! I always coming away feeling good after her stories and feel like there is lesson to learn. I highly recommend you pic up this book "The Best is Yet to Come".

Hope is the one thing folks need in life. Especially when life get grey and gloomy. When the future looks bleak. So in THE BEST IS YET TO COME Debbie Macomber gives us many different versions of hope.

First off, we meet Hope Griffin, high school history teacher and counselor. Hope moved to Oceanside to start a new life, a life void of any family now that her twin brother Hunter was gone. As many twins Hope and Hunter were very close. Perhaps even more so since they had been raised by grandparents. All these facts and events contributed to the person Hope became. Her students seemed to adore her. She made a few good friends in her new town. But there was still a tender spot that gnawed at her, being so alone in the world without any family.

Hope is usually an open person. This makes her a comfortable and caring professional. It also makes her a wonderful person to have as a friend.

Cade is quite the opposite. A veteran with some lasting physical and mental challenges Cade purposely closed himself off, from family as well as friends. He had built quite a cocoon around him. But those walls are going to be breached. And not by his choice.

Cade is going to spend a year following the judgement of the court after his actions led him down an unfortunate path. But this path just may become his savior, if he allows. Cade is his own worst enemy. He battles regrets and anger. He, himself is the real target. And then he meets Hope.

We meet several characters in THE BEST IS YET TO COME each one has a special role in an unfolding story. Trust is a big hurdle. Love doesn’t come easily.

Cade is part of a therapy group of ex-military folk recovering from injuries and learning how to face so many personal challenges. Debbie Macomber treats this with supreme respect. So much of THE BEST IS YET TO COME plays out as very current, stories that appear in today’s news. As always Debbie Macomber leaves you with a sense that these characters are so real, they might be someone you know or can identify with. THE BEST IS YET TO COME is a truly well written story examining trust, friendship, family relationships and respect. Along the way we meet some amazing two and four legged characters. Once again, I resist telling much of the story in this review of THE BEST IS YET TO COME. This is an awesome, entertaining, relevant tale told by the best. Enjoy.

As the book opens, Cade, an Army veteran who served in Afghanistan, is being sentenced for his role in a bar fight. The judge sees that he has issues from his service, and suspends his sentence, with the caveat that he must undergo counseling and PT, and do community service. He chooses the animal shelter for his community service, and there he meets Hope, who has just moved to Oceanside and is teaching at the local high school. Cade doesn't want to talk to anyone, but he is very impressed with how patiently Hope deals with an abused dog no one else can handle.. There is another story line about some issues with Hope's students, but to me the more interesting story involves Hope and Cade, both trauma survivors, trying to decide if each is worthy of trust.. A feel good book fit for Hallmark! Two characters in need of love and happiness.

Debbie Macomber always writes about real people in real settings and she does so beautifully. Another wonderful book to this series.

This is Ms. Macomber third book set in the Oceanside town in Washington State. In this story Hope is adjusting to living in in Oceanside after leaving her beloved California to getaway from the heartbreak of losing her twin brother. Cade himself is also looking to adjust to Oceanside, an ex Marine who is dealing with alot of emotional scars more than physical ones. As fate would have it Hope and Cade path is crossed when they both are volunteers at an animal shelter. Cade is so accustom to being alone that when Hope tries to be friendly to him he has no interest to even being polite with talking. As Hope tries to train and comfort a dog named Shadow who no one wants to deal with because of his viciousness Cade looks on and becomes in awe of Hope training and comforting the dog. So begins this unlikely friendship as they both are fighting their own personal demons. I enjoyed that there was a sub-story going on other than whats happening with the main characters. We meet Spencer and Callie two of Hope's students who ending dealing with a school drama incident that would effect them all including Hope. Wonderful storytelling as always by Ms. Macomber wonderful story.

An excellent book from an excellent author who didn’t shy away from the many issues our returning veterans face and what families sometimes do to cope. I did find a bit of a discrepancy on page 180 about the lead female character’s grandparents and the order in which they passed but it didn’t affect the overall story and the surprise ending (yep, I thought I had it figured out, but to my delight, and horror, I didn’t). For those who might be triggered by physical and mental issues caused by war, this book might not be the best read because it does deal in harsh realities but I loved how the main character used their stories to bring understanding to her students.

Debbie Macomber has long been a go-to for clean, small-town romances. Her love for Jesus comes through on the pages. Unfortunately, I found this one to be just okay. The overall story line was good, but there were a few glaring issues…
•Lack of character development - It was too short to show depth of development. Cade showed some growth, but there wasn’t enough evidence to find it all believable.
•Inconsistent character actions - I found several instances where something a character said or did was not in line with how they had previously acted or spoken. It wasn’t because the characters hadn’t grown, but rather inconsistencies.
•Holes in the story - There were a few scenes that I felt were crucial to the plot that were completely passed over.

I liked the idea of this one, but it needs some of fine-tuning. I would give it a low 3-star review. I wouldn’t say I disliked it, but I disliked pieces/chunks of it. I wished for another 50-75 pages to go back and add in the missing pieces & more detail in certain scenes. If you’re looking for a quick, light read, though, this is a good one to pick up.

This is a good book that I literally read in a day. One of those where you just want to sit and read without too much effort. A story of two people who completely started over and were able to find themselves within their relationships with others and with themselves. The subplot was enjoyable addition of real people and their struggles and support. Good read.

Wow! I absolutely loved reading this book. Debbie is incredibly talented at weaving a story that draws the reader in and you feel like you are part of the story, not just reading about someone else.

Hope had lost her entire family and was looking for a fresh start when she moved to Oceanside. As a new teacher at the high school, she is beginning to feel like she fits in but something is still missing. When her landlord invites her to volunteer at the animal shelter, she meets Shadow, a dog that was abused and dumped. He is angry and aggressive towards everyone. Hope sees an animal that is scared and without hope. As she begins to befriend Shadow at his own pace, he makes a dramatic change and looks forward to Hope's daily visits.

Cade is also a volunteer at the animal shelter as part of his court mandated community service hours. He is also someone who is hurting and shies away from humans. He notices the kindness and patience shows Shadow and how the animal is being transformed. He wants the same for himself. But is is worth the risk? He has also been hurt and his wounds are not only physical but emotional and mental, too.

There is so much more in this story with high school drama, scandal and even a kidnapping.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. I have read most of Debbie Macomber's books and enjoyed this one as well. Both Hope and Cade are atca crossroad in their lives. They met at a foster home for pets. They both had suffered trauma in their life, and were only looking for friendship. I enjoyed getting to know Hooe and Cade. I cant wait to read her next book.

Mix in some drama at the school and with Cade's estrangement with his folks and you have a feel-good small town that makes you want to live there - kind of story. I love Debbie Macomber's books - I savor them and enjoy each page and chapter.

A lovely book set in small town Washington about two people who appear very different on the surface but actually have a lot in common. Hope is a teacher who is new to town and all alone in the world. Through her volunteering at a local rescue she encounters Cade, a veteran dealing with physical and mental war injuries.

Debbie Macomber brings us a story of two people who appear so different on the outside but have both felt great loss. She shows us how these two characters were slightly broken when we meet them and how they affect each other and change. We get to go with them on this journey to see if they can get past the hurdles they put in their way.

I have read all of Debbie Macombers books, they are all great. Hope moves to a new town after the death of her twin brother, she gets involved in the local animal shelter and rescues shadow or does shadow rescue her?

This was a heartwarming read about healing, new beginnings, and second chances. Hope Godwin is all alone in the world and looking for a fresh start. She moves to Oceanside, WA looking to make a life for herself. She hopes her new job at the high school, the change of scenery, and making new friends will help her navigate through the grief and pain she suffers from. Hope’s twin brother, Hunter, died while on active duty in Afghanistan and she just cannot move on. Hope’s new landlord recruits her to volunteer at the animal shelter he runs. On her first day at the shelter, she meets Shadow, the abandoned and abused dog that no one can get close to. He is unadoptable and is on the brink of being put down. The two immediately have a connection. With time, patience, and kindness, Hope earns Shadow’s trust.

Cade Lincoln, who is completing court-ordered community service at the shelter, quietly watches how Hope interacts with Shadow. He sees much of himself in the dog. He feels unworthy and broken. Cade, a former Marine injured by an IED in the war, watched as his two friends died during the attack. Cade is suffering from PTSD and survivor’s guilt. He hits rock bottom and winds up getting arrested during an altercation at a bar. Instead of being incarcerated for his crimes, an understanding judge orders him to undergo physical therapy, join a support group, and complete community service. Cade and Hope recognize themselves as kindred spirits and a relationship slowly blossoms between them. Throw in a little high school drama and a scandal at Hope’s school and their story unfolds.

Debbie Macomber’s novels have been a staple in the romance world for years. This feel-good, sweet, and romantic small-town story did not disappoint. It was that, and so much more. I enjoyed the delicate way heavy topics such as PTSD, death, high school athlete drugs and doping, bullying, and parental estrangement were handled. She did a tremendous job writing about mental health, PTSD, and the effect it can have on a person. Watching Hope’s and Cade’s struggle to overcome their personal difficulties and learn to trust was heartbreaking, yet full of hope. I found it easy to relate to the characters and became invested in their stories. This story that was full of love, forgiveness, redemption, and hope is exactly what I expected from Debbie Macomber. It was a five-star read for me.
