We are trying to make connections that without understanding of ourselves, others, and, God, we are missing the boat. As research has proven, we are living in a world that is getting lonelier and lonelier and relying on others to reach out to us isn't working. This book helps us live with the intentionality of connecting to other human beings, even if those connections aren't perfect, it still gives us tools to help us relate to each other better, in a healthier manner. I really liked the chapter on Suffering Well. It helps bring the amount of suffering we all endure into focus in a way that doesn't highlight pain, but the path through the pain, in understanding a shifting philosophy as we experience what we experience. It shifts our priorities in a way that helps keep the main thing the main thing. I read this once, and will read it again. So many good nuggets of information that was extremely helpful in a down to earth way that is so helpful to figure out where we are in this process and how to move forward.
*I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. This review is my own opinion*
We know from birth that life is connected as we would not be alive without the womb of our mothers. Yet ever so often given the pace we move through life we miss those connections. In The Connected Life, the author encourages the reader to reckon with the interconnection of spirituality and relational living with intention. Read this book to deepen you experience and knowledge of integrating our implicit and explicit lives.
My thoughts:
Initially I thought this book was going to deal with technology and faith. I quickly realized that this book was going to deal more with connecting to God, to self, and to others. The book speaks to many aspects of life we experience but may have never put thought into. During my seminary process I was part of a small cohort. We met for 4/5 years as a group. This group was a bond that many people strive to find and it was just given to us. During our meetings we focused on so many of the themes and topics this book addresses. It felt like the most vital parts of my masters program were placed in the writing. I would encourage people and groups to read this and truly process it.
Who is this for:
This is for the person who wants to truly begin spiritual formation. This book will help you connect to ideas, process the past, challenge ideas, and begin to teach how a person can connect to God, others, and themselves.
