I feel his pain because I feel like every time I sit down to read someone talks to me or turns the tv on! This was a cute book with wonderful illustrations.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A hilarious book about a giraffe who just wants to read his book but the other noisy giraffes keep following him.

A wonderfully silly book that will entertain and educate. Junior Giraffe just wants to be left alone so he can read his book. He is continuously bothered by his noisy siblings and their activities. Junior uses creative problem solving to let him have this time to himself. I loved the illustrations and moral of this story. This would be a great way to impart that some people need quiet and time to themselves.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Junior the Giraffe just wants to be left alone to read his book. Sadly, his brothers and sisters are so noisy that he cannot concentrate. Will Junior have a great idea that will help?

Honestly, I could not get past the fact that the giraffes live in a forest in this book. I know that they are musical instrument playing, reading giraffes, but the fact that the author decided to set them in the trees instead of a savannah should bother even child readers. The drawings are whimsical and will attract the attention of the target audience, but the story itself is a little lacking. The childish humor will make kids laugh, but parents cringe. For these reasons, I would be hesitant to recommend Quiet, Please! to other readers.

What great fun! Poor Junior just wants to read his book but his siblings are SO noisy, in a variety of ways. He tries everything he can think of to quiet them down, but finds success in an unexpected solution.

This is terribly funny! I probably wouldn't use it in the classroom due to the burping/farting humor (it's not obscene or anything, I just don't want to open that can of worms in class!), but it would be a fantastic time with an enthusiastic adult reading partner willing to really get into the silliness. I could see this being a frequently-requested favorite for all the giggles it induces.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

Junior the giraffe was about to begin his new book when distractions galore interrupts his quiet time. His brothers and sisters were absolutely the loudest giraffes in the forest when they were together and when they were apart.

Honk Honk Toot toot! - giraffe band practice
Burp! Burp! BURP! - Junior’s brother, Burt, burps alot
Little Jerome, his younger brother, was a farter, but not a little farter, a big loud farter!

QUIET, PLEASE!

Will Junior ever get the much-needed quiet time to enjoy his new book? Silly distractions and silly ideas to solve this big problem will have little ones covering their mouths in giggles.

A cute and fun read-aloud with humor that little kids will enjoy. The illustrations are what drew me to this book and the ending was a nice touch as well.

Thank you Netgalley and Orca Books for the advanced reader copy that my little ones thoroughly enjoyed.

Junior is trying to start reading his new book when his siblings keep interrupting him with noise, noise, noise — band practice, singing, burping and gargling, just to name a few. So Junior sets off to figure out how to create a quiet environment to read.

But what Junior doesn’t realize is that perhaps his search for quiet can turn into a sweet and touching moment with his five brothers and sisters.

Russ Willms writes and illustrates an adorable book that children of all ages will enjoy in “Quiet, Please!” He creates adorable and hilarious (“Jerome was a farter”) illustrations, utilizing funny jokes and sound words like “honk,” “clang” and “tweet” to appeal to young readers. The images of the giraffe family are heart-warming and fun.

“Quiet, Please!,” which is due out April 12, will quickly become a family favorite.

Five stars out of five.

As a booklover, this story hits the spot for me. I think it could be a great one to share with preschool children and older to help them realize that sometimes others are looking for quiet so that they can do things such as read a book and that it is okay not to always fill that silence. The illustrations are wonderful and portray the text perfectly. I voluntarily reviewed an advance readers copy of this book.

This book was super cute. I loved the illustrations and I think the kids at our story times would absolutely love it and get a good laugh. I loved the ending when he included everyone and they all started reading together ❤️

An adorable book! The book is well illustrated and very enjoyable. My son and I laughed the entire book! One poor giraffe just wants to read and everyone else just cramps his style with their antics. This book has music and farts! What kid wouldn’t love this book?! But by the end the giraffes listen to the one giraffe who wants to read and now they all want their chance to read.

What a funny book about a giraffe just trying to find some quiet to read. Kids in my classroom have these moments every day :). Surely it's the same scenario at home. Love the problem-solving in this book. Illustrations are super engaging as well. It will definitely be a closely examined and repeated read.

This delightful book will have kids giggling and engaged from the get-go. Junior the giraffe just wants to curl up and enjoy his book in peace and quiet and not be disturbed. Unfortunately his five noisy siblings interfere with his mission. They decide to have band practice, sing ever so loudly, and even expel rude body noises which cause poor Junior's calm to be shattered.

Rather than getting angry with his siblings Junior uses his problem-solving skills and finds the perfect solution to his dilemma. His love of reading and his desire to escape into his book saves the day and his sanity!

The illustrations by award-winning author/illustrator Russ Willms are large, detailed, humorous and fun. The book is a wonderful celebration of reading and a perfect segue for discussing the importance of privacy and having respect for others. I highly recommend this book.

Great story for children on how to be problem solvers. Junior was trying to read his book but with the racket caused by all his siblings he never had the chance for peace and quiet. Junior finally decided to read to them but also scare them at the same time.

The cover art and book title immediately caught my attention and made me want to read this book. The premise was also intriguing. Junior is a giraffe who just wants to read his book and keeps getting disturbed by his siblings. The art work is wonderful and adds to the humor of the story. I appreciated the attention to detail, including the giraffe wearing water wings and a giraffe wearing glasses. There is a lot of “little kid humor” in the book, such as a giraffe who burps and one who farts. I can see a lot of children loving this silly book.

The only thing that I didn’t care for was the disconnect between the book description and the events of the book. The book jacket summary and cover show that the giraffe siblings are noisy because they play instruments. In the book however, Junior describes different ways that each giraffe is noisy. The flow of the book’s text was a bit choppy, but the illustrations made up for it. I would recommend this for children ages 3-7.

One review describes this book as perfect for fans of Mo Willems (author of elephant and piggie and pigeon books) and as I was reading I thought, yes that is definitely true! As a grade 3 teacher I often have some students who are a little apprehensive or not quite ready for early chapter books. They tend to gravitate towards books like this one, which are funny, engaging and have some but not too many words on a page. This book has a fun premise, everyone is being loud while a giraffe is trying to read, and the giraffe’s annoyance will really get some kids laughing. I think this book would be a perfect addition to any preschool to grade 3 classroom library as well as for families of children these ages. I can see this book becoming a new favourite bedtime story in lots of households!

I so appreciate Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review an advanced copy of this book! I look forward to purchasing a copy for my grade 3 classroom library once it is published!

A funny book about a giraffe just trying to find some quiet to read his book. And he learns maybe the best way to winner over his obnoxious and loud siblings is to read to them. Overall I think it's cute and funny. I'm personally not a fan of potty humor and this has a bit, so that made it not for me, but that's purely personal preference.
