Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher/author for providing me with an ALC in exchange for my honest review.
This book was exactly what I wanted it to be! I loved it. I will make sure to check out other books by this author. When I requested this I was just intrigued by the concept of it and I loved how it turned out. This story had a great plot and if you have read this and enjoyed it, This was so much. It was such a great story. I would say give this one a try. I will continue to follow this author. Way to go to this author for not letting me down.
I highly enjoyed the narrator of the audiobook. Kept me listening.
I listened to this audiobook and while the narration was done well, I found myself underwhelmed by the story. It just didn't seem to go anywhere and I don't remember much of it. Not bad, just not great either.
This one is a mixed bag.
On the plus side: The writing is excellent, the characters compelling, and most importantly, this is an exceptional and necessary portrait of blindness.
It’s extraordinarily rare to see a blind protagonist, and Spratt excels at demonstrating what the character’s life is like, the obstacles, treatment by others, and even the things that are quite manageable despite what differently abled folks may think.
It’s also an interesting examination of what I would call do-gooder law, and the fact that it’s not entirely as wholesome as we would like to believe.
In the downside, there’s no getting around that the ending makes the entire story feel bleakly depressing, and while perhaps a realistic sequence of events, it’s not what anyone (neither the characters nor the reader) would want, and it leaves you feeling sort of despondent and hopeless.
Another issue is Caroline herself. While we might feel sorry for her, she’s not exactly…likable. Again, it’s probably a pretty realistic portrait of someone like her, but she’s difficult to feel any warmth toward, and that matters in the end in a way that it doesn’t in some books.
The book works just fine as an audiobook, and the narrator was well chosen. He narrates well in a general sense and sounds exactly how I thought Nick should.
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version. Drama novel that is a good weekend read.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* this was a interesting read for sure, not sure how i feel about it but would recommend.
Not my kind of book. I couldn't understand it or couldn't get into it. List interest quickly. Maybe I wasnt in the right mindset or just had too much going on.
This story was okay for me. I enjoyed the first half, and the narration was good. I loved that Nick did not let his blindness limit him, and enjoyed the development of the love story between him and Caroline. As the story progressed, I felt that Nick was not as supportive of Caroline as he should have been, and it took away from my enjoyment of the story.
Blind lawyer Nick is the narrator in this audio book. He tells the story of how he falls in love with Caroline when he meets her at a writing class. He makes some interesting and clever observations but I found the story slow, rather long and, at times, confusing. While I learned a lot about Nick, I didn't feel I really understood Caroline's character. Thank you to the author, publisher and Net galley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book to listen to in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
***AUDIO BOOK VERSION***
Caroline unfortunately for me was a book I didn't finish (DNF). I trued my hardest to push through this book as it is so very rare for me to DNF a book - but however many times I tried, I just couldn't take to it. Maybe the written book would be better than the audio, but I'm not sure. I just found the book flat to listen to and my mind kept zoning out as I found the narrators voice monotonous and offering nothing to the story. I really had higher hopes for this book and although it was well written, it just wasn't the best fit for me.
I was really looking forward to Caroline by Adrian Spratt. The story was just so slow paced. I was also confused most of time with the present, past, and the fiction story being told throughout the book. Because of this, it was hard to get into the darker realities of relationships and being human tackled in this story. This book was well written but not for me. Some may enjoy this book so I would not write it off. The narrator, John Lescault, did a great job. I like the tone of his voice.
***** I received an ARC from NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my honest review. *****
This story was beautifully told, but it wasn’t for me unfortunately. I think many people will enjoy this book
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read Caroline By Adrian Spratt in exchange for my honest feedback.
This book was written in the perspective of a blind lawyer named Nick. It was extremely interesting to see how he was able to describe everything so vividly in the story to help really draw a picture for the reader/listener as well as the Nick. This story was about how he fell in love with a redheaded girl named Caroline. This story was very slow and rich in detail but dragged on a bit much for me to enjoy.
I thought from the write up it was a phycological thriller as it said:
" Soon, they realize that Caroline hasn’t left her past far behind after all...and the behavior that Nick once found charming first frustrates, then terrifies him."
I love a good thriller and found this very slow to start with and as it was an audio copy I kept drifting and having to go back so I re read the description as it seemed like a love story to me because of the write up I stuck with it and finally started to enjoy the storyline . Its definitely not a thriller it explores a relationship between Nick and Caroline and how life events can change the dynamics
It would be unfair to mark this book down because it wasn't my usual read/listen so although not for me it was still a good listen if you like a love story with issues
Thank you NetGalley for a copy of Caroline.
This book was so incredibly dull and boring that I had to DNF.
(DNF 40%)
It started very slow but I decided to give it chance, however it didn't pick up speed, also the book is called Caroline but at 40% she has barely made an appearance, it seems like its more of Mikes story, I'm sure Caroline's story will come up later but I'm at 40% already and I'm not even interested on her yet.
Mikes story is not that bad but I feel like we don't know much about him yet.
I was excited for this audio book when I first received it on my NetGalley shelf, but as I listened I just couldn't get into it. I tried putting it down, taking a break and coming back to it, but I just couldn't get past the dullness. The overall tone/voice of the book just didn't reverberate throughout the novel, any --- that was present wasn't maintained throughout to story or fell flat. I enjoyed the idea of the book more than the actual book itself. Also, although I don't think it was intended, in the beginning of the book the MC makes an unchecked remark that comes off as very biphobic and it just didn't set well with me, and set a negative tone.
With that being said, the book is written well from a technical perspective (From what I can tell), and the premise of it was interesting, but it just wasn't for me in the end.
I really enjoyed the disability representation-- although as someone who is able-bodied and has no experience with blindness, take my perception of said representation with that in mind!
Thank you to Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

A book about life and its ups and downs. But mainly, this book is about heartbreak, regrets, loss, and yes even love. But love isn't always that easy.
In a fictional memoir of sorts, Nick Coleman describes his one-year relationship with Caroline Sedlak. He is a blind lawyer in 1980's New York. She is a vivacious redhead and a carefree wanderer with a darker-than-he-realized past. Their relationship is decidedly casual, bordering on non-committal until a huge life decision makes it hard to keep up that charade. Caroline's mysterious past rears its ugly head and Nick isn't sure what he can or should do about it. In the end, there might not be an answer to that dilemma.
This isn't a happily ever after story. This isn't really even a love story. But it is a life story and one that should be read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Books Fluent for an audiobook version of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I will say that this book started off slow to develop and had me a bit thrown as to why it was titled Caroline. Eventually we get to meet the elusive Caroline and I can see the draw and magnetism of this character for our narrator Nick. She is interesting and different , unique in her decisions and ways. We slowly watch the relationship of Nick and Caroline develop meeting other characters along the way. All the while wondering if she is a villain or a heroine.
This was an interesting listen and I appreciated the audio as it pulled me through to get to the end , which I won't ruin but left me aghast.
Well done and written, probably not one I would recommend to anyone on the street but there are a few readers I know who would appreciate it.
Thank you so much to @netgalley and Adrian Spratt for this Audiobook ARC
Unfortunately I tried a few times to get into this but I just couldn't. I found the story slow and it didn't grab my attention. I think it's just not the right book for me.
Don't let me put you off it however - give it a try and see what you think!
Shout out to Netgalley for the opportunity to review the audiobook. From the description I thought I would enjoy the book, unfortunately it wasn't for me. Very slow-paced and dull.
