'The Party at Number 12' is an exciting and original audiobook that I would classify as a work of psychological fiction, listeners of that genre will certainly not. be disappointment on downloading a copy!
Main character is Hannah, a woman who, approaching her 30's, recently divorced, and having come into a generous inheritance, decides to go travelling. She rents a house and throws a leaving party. One guest doesn't make it out alive, and with motives flying thick and fast, an exciting cover up ensures. Who is killed and why?! All is revealed with a delicious blendsof suspension and fantastic story telling!
Two talented narrators do an excellent job on this (I often find something annoys me in a narration, but I can find nothing at all to fault with these narrators!)
Overall I wouldn't hesitate to reccomend this audiobook.
My thanks to Net galley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this audiobook in exchange for an advance copy.
3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Hannah is somehow forced into a party to meet up with all her present and past friends before she takes off for a big trip. A big bunch of women of different ages booked into a luxury-home for a weekend. What possibly could go wrong besides one dying, an adventurous disposing of the body and somebody innocent getting accused??!!
This story was a twisted one from start to finish that I really enjoyed, as well as the narration!
A book that makes you want to know what is going on the deeper you dig into it!
Thanjs #NetGalley #Bookouture Audio, Bookouture for the Audio Version of 'The Party at No. 12'
You write it, I'll listen Kerry!
Love every book this author writes. Always a great paced story with plenty of twists and turns - you just can't go wrong with his books - they're great!
I don't want to give any of the story away, but I kept changing my mind on this one, KW keeps us rivetted to the very last page...
I want to thank the author, NetGalley and Bookouture Audio, Bookouture
for providing me the opportunity to read this new book for my honest review.
This was a SLOW burn. The beginning caught my attention, and the ending had a great twist that I never would have guessed. But to be honest, most of the middle was a very slow build that I felt wasn’t completely necessary for the ending that it led up to. I listened to this as an audiobook and enjoyed that there were two different narrators for the different characters. I was a solid read, but not quite what I was expecting.
A big thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Kerry Wilkinson for allowing me to listen to this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
In a grand townhouse rented specially for the evening, Hannah beams at her guests under the sparkling chandelier. Her sisters, her mother and aunt, her best friends… although she’ll miss them all so much when she moves away, tonight is about celebrating the happy times and raising a toast to the future.
But the next morning, one of the guests is found cold and lifeless in their pristine white bed.
The narrator narrated the book beautifully, and I loved the depictions of the different characters. Great read. The author wrote a story that was interesting and moved at a pace that kept me engaged.
Recently divorced and unsatisfied in her mediocre job, Hannah Ford decides to leave it all behind and go trevalling – aided mostly by her late grandmother’s thirty thousand pound inheritance. Before she heads off on an adventure of a lifetime, she has been talked into having a going away party by her family.
In the grand house rented specifically for the occasion, Hannah’s guests admire the speaking chandelier and the spacious gleaming interior as they raise a glass for a final goodbye before Hannah moves away from the small town that she grew up in. As the evening progresses, the right women drink, chat, play games and eat pizza.
But by the time Sumday morning comes around, one of the women will be dead and the remaining seven are left having to figure out what to do and how they should play this. There is much at stake – everyone in the group has either a reason not to go to the police, or someone else in the group that they are willing to protect.
I would have been compulsively turning the pages if I hadn’t been listening to the audiobook, but as I was, I just couldn’t stop listening. The two narrators did an excellent job and it made for compulsive listening! The pace slowed slightly in the middle but it was fast paced right from the beginning and picked again after the slight lull. I would put this down as a domestic thriller – and a good one!
My thanks to the author and Bookouture Audio for my gifted copy to review via Netgalley.
Four killer party stars 💫
A who dunnit mystery which is a good quick read.
Eight women go to a house to celebrate that one of their number is going travelling and by the morning one of them is dead. The story is a good one although I couldn’t get past the fact that in an unexpected death, whether there had been drinking or drug taking or even if one of them had a criminal record why would you not call the police? I guess that then there would be a different less tense story to tell.
Good writing but the main characters were mainly unlikeable as I felt that they had behaved very clinically. I liked the Zach character and that he was investigating the crime he knew had been committed.
Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Whilst I enjoyed the book, I didn’t think it was amazing. The story was interesting enough if a bit predictable at times.
Very odd choices made by the characters throughout, who to be honest I didn’t feel any particular way towards.
It was an entertaining read, but nothing particularly hooked me in with it. If you enjoy murder mysteries then you will probably enjoy this.
3/5
Bidding farewell to friends and family as she prepares to travel the globe after a recent inheritance, Hannah has rented a posh house to stage her goodbye party. The champagne is flowing and everyone is having a great time, but the next morning, one of the guests is dead. It soon turns out that there are plenty of people that could be guilty; is Hannah willing to face the fact that the killer could be someone very near and dear to her?
The Party at No. 12 tells the story of Hannah, who is about to head off to travel the world with her recent inheritance. The book begins with Hannah, her sisters, her mother, aunt and best friends all arriving at a luxury rented house for an evening of celebrations. The following morning, one of the guests is dead and the rest of the book is spent trying to work out how she died - was it an accident or was it murder?
The book was well written and I enjoyed the simplicity of the narrative, however it did lack a little description and detail. I didn't especially warm to any of the characters, but I did find that I wanted to get to the bottom of the mystery. The book was easy to read and fairly fast paced, I whizzed through this one.
My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC in return for an honest review.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the ALC.
I have mixed feelings about this book. It was not bad but I missed passion. The beggining was slow even a lot of secrets were there just waiting to come out. I would never had a party like that no matter what my mom wonted. The decision of not calling the police is strange anyway. Well the secrets are hard to carry and hopefully something changes. When thr mail narrator come out it was like a Sun Rising.
Hannah has arranged a house party in a rental property. She has brought together her sisters, mum, aunt cousin and her friends as she is going off travelling.
However, by the next morning one of them is dead. Does it have anything to do with the incident the night before. As people pull to different sides we see splits occurring. A mother that will do anything to protect her kids. Waring friends. Jealousy.. Is one of them a killer or is it a tragic accident. Have they done more damage by the cover up.
A riveting read that will have you changing your mind over who you think is the guilty party. I listened to the audiobook. The narrators brought the story to life. There is a female for Hannah and the female roles. A gentleman tells the story of Zac. The dead girls boyfriend. So it is really easy to follow the storyline.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to hear an ARC
