HIDDEN IN THE SHADOWS is the second book in the Wartime Holland series by IMOGEN MATTHEWS and follows after The Hidden Village.
In this story of sacrifice and courage we see what happens to some of the inhabitants of Berkehout, the hidden village that was raided and destroyed by the Germans.
Wouter Brand and Laura Wechsler have a falling out just before the attack and both escape separately. As we follow them and other escapees through occupied Holland we are reminded of the horrors of WW11 and the plight of the starving citizens, some of whom put their lives on the line to hide young men in danger of consription and Jews in danger of imprisonent and death. There is also the very real danger of betrayal.
Will Wouter ever find Laura and be able to apologize for abandoning her and running for his life?
