Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the advance read of this title. Having finally got round to starting this series a few weeks ago, I read the previous three books one after the other and it has now become a firm favourite series. I love the main characters backstory and of course Brody! I flew through this book and I can't wait to see what comes next for Madison and Nate. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is the 4th book in this series. I was hooked from page one and read the book in one day. This book contained everything: romantic suspense, humor ( I loved the police dog and the kitten). So much drama and emotion I did cry several times in this book. I recommend this book to all, romantic suspense and mystery readers
I just love these Madison Harper Books, its like putting your feet into a pair of comfy, warm slippers and letting your mind go with all these brilliant characters.
Brilliantly written as always and it kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning until the very last page with a great ending too.
I can definitely recommend this book and thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read this book. Well done Wendy, I look forward to number 5.
Well written and well plotted book in the typical "read it in one sitting" style written by Wendy Dranfield. I like this series because it is somehow so personal. Madison's story is riveting, and every person in her life is a unique part of her life. In this extraordinary book she loses someone, but gains another important person.
I like how Madison grows as a person and does not let her past define her. I like it that she is such a strong person even though there is always something bad happening in her life. Dranfield writes so vividly that I sometimes feel like I am present int eh story myself. I am always overcome with joy when the next book in the series is being published. Another win, five stars!
Gone to her Grave was a great read. I felt Wendy's writing style was a little different compared to the usual feel of the genre but I quickly grew accustomed to it and was hooked on the plot.
Quick summary:
A beautiful woman, loved by all in her town with no known enemies is found dead in her home with no evidence except a bracelet. Madison is a detective who served time for a crime she didn't commit, her friend Nate is a PI who was on death row and later exonerated. People have gone missing in this town years ago. Now people in are getting hurt. Someone doesn't want Lost Creek to find answers. Will Madison and Nate find out what really happened before another life is taken?
The progression of the plot was incredible. If you're an avid reader of mystery books, you slowly develop an instinct as to who the culprit may turn out to be. Wendy will have you fooled right to the very end. The way past recollections are integrated into small chapters to align with Madison solving the case flow very well and all the details make it easy to imagine a movie in your head.
I admire the variety of characters used as well and how the author balanced everyone's role, each having some importance and all with enough context to be distinct from each other. Brody was definitely my favourite! Though part of a series, Gone to Her Grave can be read as a standalone and will leave you wanting to read the other novels soon.
I would rate this book around 8 or 8.25 out of 10.
The first half was good but the second half set a much higher bar. The suspense was still present throughout the book which made it hard to put down. Definitely recommend.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, Bookouture and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
The fourth in a series, it was as enjoyable as the three predecessors. I was guessing throughout.
Hold on tight for the closure to this mysterious disappearance that has been haunting us throughout the series!
I have been waiting for this book to come out! I have wondered how this storyline would wrap up and the next would begin. This is the book where that happens! I was shocked by the result but not as if it was unbelievable. Wendy did a great job at weaving this to be a story that will draw you in and keep your attention. I read this in one day and now I wait for book 5!
I found this series at the first book and was hooked. I am very intrigued by this series and author. I highly recommend checking this series out. The characters are people you get to know… you develop a sort of bond with Madison, Nate and Owen will want to find out what happens in the next book.
I received a complimentary ARC of this book from NetGalley on behalf of the Publisher and was under no obligation to post a favorable review.
Wow, talk about a tear-jerker toward the end of the book. Wendy Dranfield crafts scene descriptions that evoked emotions and had me sobbing in parts. The scenes pop out on the page. Gone to Her Grave has two stories being told that eventually intersect, and what great stories they are.
I loved Nate's dog and hope he is featured more in other books. Gone to Her Grave had a satisfying ending.
I will definitely read more from this author.

I was totally engrossed in the next book to feature Detective Madison Harper. it's fast paced, well written and is well plotted. As the death toll rises, including a colleague of Madison's, she is desperately trying to locate the killer. I love Brody the dog! It was a multi layered and satisfying read which I can highly recommend. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
You do deserve a second chance. Det Madison Harper knows about having to start all over so she is happy that her partner Det Don Douglas is getting one as well. She just can't seem to find him at the moment so she is hoping that she will see him later at the station. She has just picked up a call about a murdered young woman and it looks personally so when a fellow officer almost shoots their own witness they could have serious problems coming their way.
Nate Monroe hopes that he can help Vince find out what happened to his wife Ruby & grandson Oliver as they just disappeared. He has found his second chance in life after wasting away in prison for a crime he never committed. He just wants answers and he suspect list isn't very long but why did the local police never find them?
Madison can't believe that her partner is gone something is wrong here as Don would never have killed himself and she needs to find out the truth about what he was doing. What did he have to do with the murdered woman and why is everything coming back to Nate's case?
Is Madison correct that everything is related or is she just wanting to find answers? She knows that she has to prove herself to her fellow officers especially after been in prison for murder of a fellow cop.
Will her & Nate find the answers to all the questions and will they find closure to the families?
A good solid read. I was lucky enough to receive a copy from Netgalley & the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
Oh my goodness I have come to love this series.
Madison is called to investigate the murder of a local care worker whilst Nate is asked by local diner owner Vince to reopen the investigation into his wife and grandsons disappearance.
Madison and Nate work so well together and this case draws on all their resources and brings back lots of memories both of them would prefer to forget.
I can't wait to see what Wendy has in store for us next
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this advanced copy , I am under no obligation to leave my review
Book #4 in the Detective Madison Harper series and it doesn’t disappoint. This series just keeps getting better and better with each book.
The mystery in this one has so many layers and keeps going till the last pages to peel them all back.
I would highly recommend the whole series and while this could be read as a stand alone, it is much more enjoyable having the full backstory.
Can’t wait for the next one in this series.
Thanks Netgalley and publisher for the opportunity to read this arc.
Gone to her Grave, book four in the brilliantly gripping Detective Madison Harper series is an unputdownable and twisty crime thriller and quite honestly my favourite of the series so far!
As Detective Harper investigates the murder of Terri Summers someone everyone seemed to love meanwhile her closest friend and PI Nate Monroe begins his investigation into Ruby Rader and her grandson Oliver who both disappeared without a trace six years ago.
And as both cases collide with devastating consequences I was hooked and I had no idea who the killer was. But oh, did I LOVE finding out and with new characters and relationships introduced and old ones once again rearing their ugly heads I can't wait for what"s to come and would definitely recommend this book and series to others.
Does not disappoint!!
After binge reading the first 3 books in this series, I was left waiting with anticipation for book 4 to see where Wendy would take the 2 key characters of this book and the next mystery to be served up, so I was very happy when I was able to get my hands on an ARC.
A 6yr old cold case, a new murder and a suspected suicide, are they connected, is someone covering their tracks, will Nate and Maddie solve all three cases before more lives are lost. With danger around every corner and a final twist, this book will have you gripped.
I love the special bond and friendship that Maddison and Nate share, for me, that is a key ingredient for this series, the characters, who, with each story, you get to know that much more.
Oh I loved this book. Number 4 in the series and it's the best one yet.
The characters are really starting to develop well and it's lovely watching the different relationships grow.
At one point the story had me in tears. It was so poignant and the author wrote it beautifully.
This is a fast moving plot with plenty of twists and OMG moments that leads to a heart pounding finale. I did not see THAT coming.
This is fast becoming one of my go to series and I can't wait to see what Madison and Nate get up to next.
This is another WOW read! The main theme was set up in the last book, where we met Vince at the eponymously named, Ruby’s Diner. His ‘Crime and Dine’ podcast was created in the vain hope that he would somehow uncover the truth behind the disappearance of his wife, Ruby, and their grandson Oliver. Vince has now recruited private detective, Nate Monroe to investigate the seemingly cold case.
Meanwhile, Madison investigates a murder in Lost Creek where the victim, Terri Summers, seems to have no enemies. Her only clue is an old friendship bracelet, clutched in Terri’s hand. Hoping for support from her partner, Detective Don Douglas, Madison makes a grim discovery that starts a shocking sequence of events.
The friendship between Madison and Nate continues to go from strength to strength. Nate now has his own place that he shares with Brody, the former police dog that he rescued in book 1. Madison’s relationship with her son, Owen, is back on an even keel and her life is beginning to feel like her own again.
The twists and turns as this gripping thriller unfolds are completely absorbing and I didn’t imagine how the story would end. Yes, I had a couple of suspicions and unfavoured characters, but Wendy constructs her thrillers with a fine eye for detail with no aversion to shocking the reader. Madison is once again brought face to face with her estranged sister who still seems to have power over her, even though she’s in jail. Her involvement in both Nate and Madison’s cases seemed tenuous until answers are uncovered.
It wasn’t just the mystery that held my attention, Madison has endured real heartbreak and her trust has been broken repeatedly. Seeing her relationships with both her son and Nate progress kept me hoping that maybe their futures will pull them together as a family unit.
Gone to Her Grave can be enjoyed as a standalone story, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Read from book 1, it’s a cracking series and you will appreciate the references made to past cases.
I have read and enjoyed the previous books in the series so I was looking forward to this. It didn't disappoint and I can't wait to read more
This series is amazing and this book, the 4th is exceptional. I love the characters. Madison and Nate are so good together. I also love Owen and Brody. You can read the synopsis, I don’t repeat it. Read the book or preferably all in the series. I can’t wait for the next book and I hope the Author writes fast. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
I forget what a great series this is until I read the next book. Madison Harper and Nate Monroe are such unique characters who have triumphed over the unbelievable.
Madison is called to a murder scene of a woman. Looks like her abusive boyfriend is the prime suspect but looks can be deceiving.
Nate has decided to take on the cold case of Vince Rader's missing wife and grandson – he is determined to solve it no matter what secrets it exposes.
What Madison and Nate don't realize it the two cases are closely related and when they find what looks like a suicide of Madison's partner things just start spiraling out of control and by the end shocking revelations.
This series not only has the great characters of Madison and Nate but a large secondary cast (some good, some bad) that your just as invested in and there was even some additions by the end. Cant wait to see what's next.
Madison and Nate are back!!!! Madison is on the hunt for who and why somebody killed Terri Summers and unveils a very sinister coverup. This book was a page turner! I absolutely love her relationship with Nate. Great series and great book. If you love a fast paced mystery this is definitely the book for you. Love this series!
