I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Watch Her Disappear’, fourteenth in the Detective Josie Quinn series written by Lisa Regan, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Detective Josie Quinn is called out when the body of a teenage girl is found in the grounds of Denton East High School on Prom Night. More bodies are found in the following days each with little cuts on a part of their bodies and it soon becomes apparent that Denton Police Department are looking for a serial killer. It isn’t until Chief Chitwood steps forward with vital information that they realise these crimes could span the previous twenty-five years.
‘Watch Her Disappear’ is probably the most difficult and disturbing case Josie has had to deal with. As the story progresses we learn more about Chief Chitwood who’s always stayed behind the scenes while being totally supportive of Josie. I love the character of strong and dedicated Josie who, together with her husband Lieutenant Noah Fraley and Detectives Gretchen Palmer and Finn Mettner, work night and day to identify the bodies and find a connection between them. From the very beginning there’s action-packed drama, suspense, tension and so many heart-stopping twists and turns that I was relieved to reach the final pages and learn the identity of who was responsible. This latest book has to be the best one yet and I can wholeheartedly recommend it while looking forward to the next one.
Josie Quinn is back! This is the 14th book in the series but don’t worry if you have not read the others. Lisa does a great job bringing you up to speed at the beginning of the book. I fell in love with Josie Quinn the first book I read. She is a hard hitting detective who will follow every clue to find the bad guy. Josie’s cases seem to focus on female victims. It’s not important for the series but an interesting note. This is a fast paced book that will keep you guessing. You may think you know the bad guy but you may not. If you love police thrillers that won’t let you put the book down, you will love this book and series.
One dead girl found outside a local prom quickly turns in to the question of how many girls have been kidnapped and murdered. And how do the Chief of Police and his estranged father play a part in what has been going on? The twists and turns in this one were riveting and the short flashes to the girls kept the tension high. I did find a couple pieces of the puzzle hard to accept, but overall that didn't ruin the book for me. This installment didn't include much of Josie's personal life. Instead, the up-until-now somewhat elusive Chief Chitwood's history took center stage. I hope that now that more is known about him, he will continue to be more involved in future storylines.
Wow! I read this is one sitting, I have read all the other Josie so this one was a must read for me. Absolutely loved it, I couldn't put it down.
Josie is a brilliant character as are the others we have come to know over the series. This book is full of twists, thrills and everything you want in a great crime/mystery book. I'd highly recommend reading this.
The girl at the prom, lying in her champagne coloured dress, peaceful as though she was asleep, was dead. Detective Josie Quinn, Detective Noah Fraley and the rest of Josie’s team would soon become embroiled in a horrifying case where abducted girls would be murdered on their sixteenth birthdays. When their Chief showed a particular interest in the case, then showed Josie something he’d never shown anyone before, Josie was sure the long ago past was linked to what was happening now. When another murdered girl turned up, with evidence to match the first girl – they knew they had a twisted serial killer on their hands.
Digging deeply into everything they could find, the team gradually pieced together what was happening. But who was doing it? Was there only one person involved? Or were there more? The notification of another missing girl whose sixteenth birthday was a matter of days away meant the clock was ticking. Would Josie discover enough to save the last missing girl?
Watch her Disappear is the 14th in the Detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan and wow! What a twisted, chilling story! A fast paced, edge of your seat thriller, this series continues to get better and better. I hope the author doesn’t stop any time soon! Highly recommended.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC of this incredible book!
Let me start by saying I absolutely love this series! Book number 14 is possibly the best one yet.
The biggest reason I love this series is the characters. They are well developed and well written. I feel a connection to them and love learning more about them. Throughout this series, I always wondered why Chitwood was so quiet/sullen/moody. It was so intriguing to learn more about his back story in this book!
Watch Her Disappear is hard to put down. This is another fast paced win for Lisa Regan!
This fourteenth book in Lisa Regan's engaging Josie Quinn series is totally riveting and one of the best to date.
Detective Josie Quinn has had a difficult time in the past, culminating in the loss of the woman she loved dearly and believed to be her grandmother. Now, after some disruption to her wedding plans she is finally married to Lt. Noah Frawley and they are even thinking of finding time to take a honeymoon. However, it's Prom night in Denton with all the schools holding their Proms on the same night and the police are braced for dealing with teens getting into trouble. But so far all is quiet, until the body of a girl in a prom dress is found lying on a school stage. The girl was reported missing a few months ago so is she a runaway or has she been abducted and held somewhere only to be killed now on her sixteenth birthday by a single neat cut to her femoral artery.
For Josie's Chief, Robert Chitwood, the girl's disappearance and murder is eerily similar to that of his sister Kelsey twenty five years ago. The Chief's father was Chief of Police then in their home town and didn't identify any suspects for Kelsey's murder. But if this is the same killer, what has he/she been doing for twenty five years?
This addition to the series is less focused on the lives of the team members and more on the investigation. We do find out quite a lot about the Chief's background and perhaps why he is taciturn and sometimes grumpy. He and Josie become closer in this novel with a better understanding of each other. This was another fast paced read with plenty of action and some good twists. It kept me totally engaged trying to work out if the two murders were linked, who could be responsible and why they were carrying out such a specific abduction and murder.
This is my first book in the series to read; I loved the strong female protagonist, Josie, She is very tough. I loved how the book started immediately with a murder, a young woman, found at the bottom of a stairwell at her local high school. It is prom night and she is dressed in her beautiful prom dress, she is left in a pose as if she is sleeping. She has only one stab wound on her inner thigh, which is the cause of death. During the investigation, no one knows who the victim is. The detective feels she looks familiar. The book moves quickly with multiple murders which means that they have a serial killer to hunt for. This was twisty thriller that was so good til the end, which you are disappointed that the book is over. I will look more into the series and definitely read the author again.
I love this series and this is definitely one of my favourites.
We get to see another side of the Chief as this case is very close to home for him.
The book begins with a teenage girl’s body being found at a prom. Despite being dressed for the occasion, Josie and the team can’t identify her.
The way she was killed was similar to a case linked to the Chief’s sister and he asks Josie for her help in finding the killer.
It’s soon clear that other girls are missing. The girls are all taken a few months before their sixteenth Birthday and then found dead on the Birthday.
There’s a race against time to find Erica as it’s coming up to her Birthday and it’s a gripping ending to the book.
I loved this book and highly recommend this series.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
The Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan is consistently excellent and the latest entry is no different at #14.
Loved the focus of this one. Can't wait for the next.
Thanks to Netgalley for the free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily. Lisa Regan is one of my favorite authors. I just recently discovered her books, and she is an outstanding story teller! This is book #14 in the Josie Quinn series. Detective Josie Quinn has ended up with another disturbing case. A young girl's body is found in the middle of the prom. It it very apparent that this is the work of a skilled and sadistic killer because the kill shot is a fatal stab wound to the femoral artery in the leg. Although the cause of death is wicked, it appears that the killer positions the body in an almost "loving" manner, albeit he or she is obviously very depraved. For fans of Josie Quinn and her characters associated with this series, you will see a side of Chief that you have never seen, and learn a little more about his past. After reading this book, you will see the "human" side of him with the gruffness and authoritarian personality removed somewhat. This is a psychological thriller that is intoxicating to the reader. In usual Lisa Regan fashion, she will grab your attention and pull you into the story from the beginning until the jaw-dropping ending you will never see coming! My heart is still racing! The plot line and the actual investigation into the warped mind of a killer will give you goosebumps. If you like a good thriller with the serial killer edge, you will not be disappointed with this book, nor any of the books in this series!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Watch Het Disappear by Lisa Regan that I read and reviewed.
This was the latest book in the Josie Quinn series and this gave us a look at Chief Chitwoods past and what makes him tick. This was a very emotional look at the Chief’s past and how he lost his sister that he was raising to what we eventually learn to a serial killer when he was a young police and officer.
In this book Josie in her team find themselves trying to solve the case of young girls that are getting killed on their sixteenth birthday and left in places where they can be easily found. It does not take the Chief long to see the similarities in is sister’s death twenty-five years earlier so he begs his team to look into her murder as well and try to find her her killer.
This book gives the reader a deeper look into another look of Josie’s team and I really enjoyed it. I love how Regan lets her readers get to know the characters so deeply in her books. This was an excellent read.
Watch Her Disappear gets five out of five stars from me!
I run out of ways to describe just how good this series is. Each book is fresh and adds a new element to Josie Quinn and her crew. This time the story focuses on the Chief. Chitwood is a deep guy who has harbored a lot of pain for most of his life. He allows Josie a glimpse into his past and his pain when a body turns up on prom night but the the team can’t seem to track her down. I was amazed at the elaborateness of the plot, the dead ends the author sent me down, until finally the answer became apparent.
JQ rules!
4.5 rounded up.
This was one of the best books in the excellent Josie Quinn series. It’s prom night in Denton, all the schools have their proms on the same night and the police department is on standby for the usual problems of teens getting themselves in trouble. Only this time it’s very quiet - until they get a call that body has been found at the upmarket high school. She is dressed up for a prom in a beautiful dress but no one seems to recognise her. She is unmarked apart from a stab wound to her femoral artery which would have caused her bleed out within minutes. She also has 3 feint cut lines on the inside of her arm.
Finally Josie twigs, she recognises the girl from a missing persons report of around 3 months ago as Gemma Farmer. Only a few days later another girl is found dead, killed in the same manner only she has 5 cuts on her arm. The other thing the girls have in common is they were both killed on their 16th birthdays. Josie has a really bad feeling about this case! Do the marks represent some sort of tally? And what about the missing numbers?
Then Chief Chitwood drops his bombshell. His much younger sister, Kelsey, was killed in the same way 25 years ago. He looked after her much of the time. She was found in a church. Bobby Chitwood’s father Harlan who was the police chief in Brighton Springs investigated Kelsey’s death but the killer was never found. It also raises questions about possible links to the Butcher of Brighton Springs killings. The Butcher escaped punishment on a technicality,
Chitwood and Josie head to Brighton Springs to talk to Harlan. He was as corrupt a police officer as could be and he is still a pretty reprehensible person, always to be found propping up the bar in a seedy pub. Bob Chitwood hated his father and has tried to distance himself and be a better man but this case is really troubling him. Who could be killing over a 25 year period? A few suspects are bandied around but the truth is elusive. I never would have guessed!
I liked that this book had a focus on Chief Chitwood. Until now he has been the gruff and grumpy boss but now we see a more human side of him. He really loved his sister and when it seems they have a lead on her killer he and Josie throw caution to the wind as they know there is another girl being held whose 16th birthday is imminent. It’s brutal and bloody as Chitwood, Josie and the killer fight for their lives.
It was a horrific story which illustrates the long term damage that early abuse can cause a person. Yes the killer was evil but also their mind had been broken many years ago. It’s almost a wonder there weren’t more victims. I’m hoping Josie and Noah can finally take their much delayed honeymoon in the next book. Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.
4.5 stars
Watch Her Disappear could also be titled "Watch Josie Quinn be awesome"!
Fourteen books in and still going strong! Woohoo!! This is one of my favorite series and I am already waiting for the next book in the series. I think Lisa Regan's books are getting better as is her writing. If you have not picked up this series, do yourself a favor and do so. I know you are thinking there are 14 books, but they are quick reads, fast paced, with a great set of characters. You will fly thought them as I did.
In this book, teenage girls are being found dead on their sixteen birthdays after going missing without a trace. Josie and her team have their hands full with this case and its relation to a cold case which hits close to home for one of Denton's own Chief, Bobby Chitwood. I love how the author fleshes out a different character in each book and it's Bobby's turn in this book.
In this book, there is more focus on the cases than there was on Josie's personal life, but I didn't mind as the current cases and cold case were so interesting and I was fully invested in wanting to learn more. I will admit, I didn't have a clue and enjoyed how everything came together in the end.
I was instantly gripped by this book (as I am with all of them) and found myself flipping through the pages, fully immersed and engaged. Josie Quinn is such a fascinating character as are the other characters in this book. I have a feeling the next book will go back to being a balance of her personal life (go on that honeymoon already!!) and her work life, but it was fun to see her in full detective mode in this book.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have only read a few books in this series but I knew enough about Detective Josie Quinn to be able to relate to the characters in this book. I love a strong female protagonist and Josie is one tough detective – mentally and physically!
I think I enjoyed this novel the best so far, because the book isn’t so much about Josie’s background etc. This one centered a lot around Chief Robert Chitwood and the present case they are working on.
The action started right away with a murdered young woman, found in an alcove at he bottom of a stairwell at a local high school. It is prom night and she is dressed for the dance, in her pose she looks like she is sleeping!! A single stab wound in her inner thigh is the cause of death.
Though this is a relatively small town, there are multiple high schools and they are all having prom on the same night. Much investigation is done to try to identify the young woman but no one knows who she is. Josie has a feeling as though she’s seen her before but can’t remember where.
THE PLOT QUICKLY ESCALATES FROM ONE MURDER, TO A SERIES OF MURDERS and the team knows that they are on the hunt for a serial killer.
The plot is multi-layered and as the team digs deeper they find cold cases that may have been the work of the same killer!!
To reveal any more of the plot would ruin the read for everyone.
TRIGGER WARNING: There are some disturbing parts that include child abduction, imprisonment and abuse. The scenes are not overly graphic and leave a lot to the reader’s imagination, which is as it should be!!
This was a twisty page turner and I can recommend it to thriller lovers, you won’t be disappointed!!
I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through NetGalley. The novel is set to publish on April 12, 2022.
It was my pleasure to read and review this great thriller!!
WOW!! My heart finally slowed down. This was such a great read that I could just not put down. I love Joise Quinn and the team. I loved hearing the story of Chief Chitwood. They have a serial killer on the loose and are trying to figure out how this involves Chief Chitwood 25 years ago. You won't be able to put this book down I promise you. This has so many twists and turns that your heart and head won't let you stop reading. This is a must read and I can't wait until the next in the series.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read the advanced copy.
What a twisted ride and at the end it left me wondering about mankind. A thriller for sure. I do have to admit the first time the name of one of the guilty is mentioned, I knew they were involved. The how and whys, not so much and when they came out I shook my head and my mouth hung open. I have not read this whole series, nor have I read them in order (the ones I read). I was not lost, and I cared about the characters. I probably would have been invested big time if I had started with book 1. This is a great police procedural that shows you all sides, including all sides of grief. Turns you around and upside down. Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and Lisa Reagan for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.
4.5 Chief stars
I found this to be another wonderful installment in the Detective Josie Quinn series. This author is so reliable, and I eagerly read these as quickly as I can! Fast-paced and a compelling story!
This time the author brings to life the police chief – Bobby Chitwood. Up until this book, we didn’t know much about him as a character, he was just gruff and did not share much of his personal life. Josie and the Chief really bond in this one and work together. I really like how the author does this with characters and it keeps the series fresh.
In this book, there is a lot of focus on the crimes, and they are chilling! We start out with a murdered young woman on the night of prom. She’s beautifully made up, but no one at prom knows who she is and she won’t get to enjoy prom!
When another body is found a few days later with similar markers, Josie’s team knows that there is something terrible at work in Denton. The Chief brings in a story from his past and the race is on to find the killer before he/she strikes again!
This one really had a compelling case at its core, but I did miss some of the personal story between Josie and Noah. I hope they get to go on an uninterrupted honeymoon in the next book! And then they can investigate the next murder!
A cracking start to this novel, but just I was getting invested in some potential suspects, the plot took a sideways turn, which irritated me a little. I’m glad I stuck with it, as it settled down into a well written, slightly disturbing book. All a little unsavoury at times, particularly if you have a daughter, but a well constructed crime thriller.
