There's not much to say except … this is just such a great series! I never get tired or bored reading about Josie's cases. Each book is well-written, with characters you can't help but root for and fall in love with.
I can't wait for #15 and Josie's next adventure.
Thank you Lisa Regan for creating such wonderful characters and stories.
Thank you #netgalley and #bookouture for the eARC.
Having read all the books in the series, other than the first two, I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Josie, Noah and the rest of the team again, they feel like old friends!
Josie needs to figure out what the connection is between girls who disappear when they are 15, and who turn up on their 16th birthdays, dead. Luckily, she has Noah, Gretchen, Finn, Amber and the Chief in her corner and between them all, they go on the hunt. What Josie didn't anticipate is that Chief Chitwood has a very personal stake in what is happening, due to a connection with his sister. We see a different side of the Chief in this book and it is really interesting.
Another top read, and I am already looking forward to reading the next one in the series.
5 stars from me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Watch Her Disappear, the fourteenth novel to feature Detective Josie Quinn of the Denton, Pennsylvania Police Department.
The body of a teenager is found at the school prom. She is dressed for it but nobody knows who she is. Josie thinks she is familiar, but doesn’t know from where. Then she is identified as Gemma Farmer who disappeared from home four months ago. Then another body turns up with enough similarities to Gemma’s death to make the team think they are hunting a serial killer.
I thoroughly enjoyed Watch Her Die, which is an exciting tale of murder and madness. It is mostly told from Josie’s point of view with a few switches to an unnamed girl and her experience in captivity.
The novel is non stop with developments at every turn and a suitably exciting finale. I had a sort of guess early on at the perpetrator’s identity, but developments made me cast it aside rapidly. It turns out I was sort of right, but please note the sort ofs. I fell for the author’s misdirection and would never have guessed the direction the novel took, even without the misdirection. I was impressed by the solution and what it entailed. It’s highly unlikely in the cold light of post read analysis but it’s entertaining and that’s all that matters.
This series always revolves around Josie and one other character. In this case it is the turn of Denton’s enigmatic police chief, Bob Chitwood. He and his family history are central to the case, thus giving the reader a better understanding of his blustering personality. I was disappointed that Josie’s friends and family don’t make an appearance in this novel and I missed Harrison and Trinity.
Watch Her Disappear is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
This is the 14th book in the series. This is also the 14th book I've read in the series. I wouldn't spend my precious seconds reading every single book in the collection if it weren't worth it. These are always a good read.
Just finished book 14 and already looking out to the next one.
This book can be read as a standalone but if you have not read the previous ones I suggest you start with them. What makes these books so great that in each one of them a different individual character becomes more a person good and bad? In this book we get to know more of current Chief Robert Chitwood. In the past we have seen that occasionally he is a compassionate person as with the passing of Josie’s grandmother but most of the time we see him as a not very likeable individual. Not the easiest type of boss to work for. Here we get a look in the past what made him the gruff character of today. Finding a murdered 16 year old girl at the high school on prom night starts events rolling. Is there a connection with a 25 year old cold case of the Chief’s 16 year old sister? A lot of emotions displayed in this story. I’ll not tell you more because I want you to enjoy the book like I did.
This book was sent to me electronically for review from Netgalley. This is a series...the protagonist is a likable character who gets the job done...the other characters are likable...except, of course, the bad guys...the murderers...the sadists...the ones who are out there and can't be caught easily...this is a book of murder and intrigue written by a gifted and talented author. This book is also a great example of a mystery that does not need bad language to be interesting...maybe others should take a page from this author's book...no pun intended. This is a can't put down story...what is going to happen??? When??? How??? Red herrings...friendship...coworkers...family....teenagers gone awry...themes throughout the book that keep the reader's attention. I am eager to read more bo0ks by this author...don't miss it...
This book starts at a high school prom where the body of a young, unknown female is found murdered. From that moment on, the hunt for the killer is on and Josie and the gang get to work.
The young girl looks familiar to both Josie and Amber, but neither can place her.
And the case? It’s eerily familiar for Chief Chitwood.
In the last book, The Drowning Girls, we learned more about Amber. In this book, we get to learn more about Chief Bob Chitwood – I was actually really excited about this. Chief Chitwood showed up way back in book four. We know he’s not married, no family has ever been mentioned. He never says much, is pretty gruff, and shouts a lot. Eternally grumpy is the nicest way to describe him. I think the nicest thing he’s ever done was the moment, towards the end of Hush Little Girl, when he gave the rosary bracelet to Josie just before her Grandma died. But other than that Chief has always been one big question mark. He mentioned that one day he would tell Josie the story of how he got the rosary bracelet but, when we didn’t find out in the Drowning Girls, I didn’t think we actually would. I need to learn to be more patient. Turns out the Chief has a very sad story to tell. I was actually more interested in learning about the Chief than I was about finding the murderer!
Now that we have found out more about the Chief, I wonder how this will change his relationship with Josie and the team. Or if it will change anything at all. And I also wonder if we will see any more of Daisy. I will exercise patience and wait to find out.
Overall, the book is fast-paced, with lots of twists and turns. I was definitely surprised by the killer reveal. Have you ever watched Criminal Minds? I love that show. I was obsessed with trying to work out why the killer had such a long cooling-off period between murders because Criminal Minds says that’s abnormal, – I definitely did not expect the answer. I couldn’t put the book down and stayed up ridiculously late to find out who had done what and why.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
I cant get enough of this series. Josie is a badass and without a doubt a complicated character. Nobody writes a killer quite like lisa regan. This is a well written mystery and has plenty of twists and turns.
This is the 14th installment in the series featuring Pennsylvania Detective Josie Quinn, and I've read several. All have been quite good, but for some reason this one stands out among the others. Maybe it's because the focus seems a little less on Josie's troubled background and more on that of her chief, Robert Chitwood - a man who, prior to this, has been a bit of a thorn in Josie's side. Or maybe it's because a serial killer is on the loose - perhaps one with ties to a long-ago murder that hits too close to home for comfort. Whatever the reason, it gets five stars from me.
That's even though I was left scratching my head over how a relatively small (20,000) town can support "several different" high schools and reels in "hundreds and hundreds" of students at a single prom (especially when the latter typically is limited to juniors and seniors). I live close to a handful of towns of this size - a few stones' throws from the Keystone state, in fact - where just two high schools struggle with low enrollment figures. Oh well, except that the unrealistic numbers helped complicate corpse identification, I suppose it really wasn't all that important to the overall scheme of things.
And the scheme is intriguing; out behind one of those several schools on systemwide prom night, a young girl's body is found. The victim of a single stab wound, she's wearing what appears to be a prom dress, complete with wrist corsage. Problem is, no one has a clue as to who she is. Finally, a lightbulb goes off in Josie's head; she's a girl who went missing a few months earlier for whom an Amber alert was issued. There are zero clues on the body that could lead to a suspect, but five small cuts on the inside of her arm raise alarm bells. When another missing girl is found in her bed a few days later - with a similar cause of death and a different number of small cuts - it's enough to make Jesse and her team, husband Lt. Noah Fraley and detectives Gretchen Palmer and Finn Mettner, lean toward the serial killer angle.
Strangely, their chief suddenly becomes animated and insistent that they pursue the case. When he finally reveals the reason, it opens up a whole new line of investigation into what will become a race to find a killer before another young girl falls victim. It's nonstop action and a slam-bang finish - good reasons for not wanting to turn off my Kindle at bedtime. Many thanks once again to the publisher, via NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review a pre-release copy. Good job!
Watch Her Disappear
Lisa Regan
April 12, 2022
It was prom night for Denton, Pennsylvania. All were excited and dressed to the nines. One in particular was hurt and angry. Her guy lied and made promises he did not keep.
Lindsey and her pals decided to head outside and discuss what they should do. Unfortunately when they headed to the theater in the cellar of the auditorium they found something none of them would ever forget.
In the Detective Josie Quinn series #14 we find the detective crew going back twenty five years to solve several cold cases. All were similar with one in particular involving Chief Bob Chitwood. At times it seemed like the current case would end up being another baffling cold case aging in the files. Regan’s Quinn novels are all excellent suspense, the reader never finds the solution transparent. Watch Her Disappear will be published on April 12, 2022 by Bookouture Publishing. I appreciate their allowing me to read and review this latest Lisa Regan title. It is an unstoppable chronicle of action and edgy series of events. Fans of mystery and suspense need to include this in their spring reads. Enjoy!
Another fantastic entry in the Josie Quinn series…finally a look into Chief Chitwood’s past!! One of my favorite things about this series is the dynamic background/secondary characters…they feel like fully realized people instead of just background noise. I love how we have gotten to know more and more about each of the side characters as the series has progressed…very good “world-building” this one is a very fast read as you don’t want to put it down. Twists and turns abound as you go on the roller-coaster that is Josie Quinn’s world!! Can’t recommend this series enough!
Watch Her Disappear is a book/ series that will keep the lights on, your heart racing and the pages turning quickly.
Josie, Noah and her team are racing against time to solve the girl found dead at the prom.
Who is she.
No one knows.
The waters get murkier when the Chief brings up the past. (Loved his personality coming out in this book).
You could read this book as a stand alone but treat yourself from the first in the series and you won't be disappointed.
I will be first in line for Book 15.
Josie Quinn always my hero.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for another gripping read in the Josie Quinn series.
Lisa Regan has done it again! What a fast paced wild ride. If you haven't read Josie Quinn, do yourself a favor and grab a copy now! A girl found dead at a prom on what would've been her sixteenth birthday. Could her death be connected to a 25 year cold case involving the Chief? As Josie and team put the pieces together, will they find the killer before another victim turns up dead?
Another good one from Lisa Regan! Its prom night in Denton and a young girl is found outside a school dead in a prom dress. No-one knows who she is but Josie feels she is familiar. She starts to look at missing persons files and discovers the young girl has been missing for a while. Then the Chief asks her to look at another old case that is similar and it leads to a serial killer!
Once again Josie and the team are busy and it is great to follow them. I particularly enjoyed finding out more about the Chief, his background story is fascinating. I am already looking forward to number 15!
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for granting me an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Holy hell. What a ride. This is the 14th book of this series and Lisa Regan can still keep me on the edge of my seat! I kept thinking I knew who the killer and kidnappers where. The ending tho!!! Can't wait to see what happens next.
This is the 14th outing for Detective Josie Quinn and just as enjoyable as the previous 13.
In this case a young girl is found dead at the local prom only she wasn’t a student and no one knows who she is. Mett, Noah and Gretchen join with the investigation. Chief Chitwood also takes a more central role in this story which was great.
Fourteen books in and I can’t wait for book fifteen!
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.#WatchHerDisappear #NetGalley
Thank you to #NetGalley for the advance copy of #WatchHerDisappear by #LisaRegan
This is the 14th book in this series and still just as good as the early ones.
Josie and her team are called to a High School Prom when a girls dead body is found, but who is she ?
There is no footage of her arriving and no one will admit to knowing her. Certain clues come to light with the autopsy that lead the team to believe this killers has struck before, and this case has suddenly got much closer to home.
Riveting read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Lisa Regan has churned out yet another unputdownable hit with her latest addition to the Josie Quinn series.
Prom night at Denton East High School is cut short when the body of a 16-yr old girl is found at the rear of the school building. Even as Josie and her team are racking their brains to solve the murder, another teen ends up murdered; the same M.O in both murders proving the presence of a serial killer at work. Things get more convoluted when similarities are found with a cold case dated twenty-five years ago. The police chief's personal stake in the case is just one of Josie's many worries as she strvies to stop the killer before more lives may be taken.
As always, the teamwork between Josie, Noah, Mett and Gretchen as they investigate the case is one of the best parts of the plot. The team also gets a glimpse into Chief Bobby Chitwood's past - the tragedy that defined his entire life and the reason behind his gruff demeanour.
One would think that after fourteen books with the same characters, the series would begin to lose steam. But hats off to the author who has surpassed herself with this exceptional narrative. The case itself is twisty and gripping, and while the antagonist was quickly identified, a chilling backstory and a nail-biting climax, easily makes this one of her best works.
Overall, a spectacular thriller. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
An excellent thriller that kept me guessing and proving me wrong. This book is better than the previous two books both with the plot and the writing. Keep it up Ms Regan.
Hooked me from the start. A twisty and gripping read that was hard to put down.
The characters continue to grow as the series progresses, and this time we get to see another side of Chief Chitwood, whose past plays an important part in solving the murders. I really enjoyed seeing him have an active role in the investigation.
I can't wait to read what's next for Josie and her team.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.
