Rajani LaRocca is a master at her craft. There aren't many authors who can write a Newbury Honor book and follow it up with an adorable board book - and make each one just as relevant for their intended audience. Brava!
This board book will delight babies and parents alike.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and Charlesbridge publishing for the sneak peek.
Chicken Soup for the soul has entered the picture book arena. Overall, I guess the story works. I do love the illustrations. But there is just something about a kid demanding now repeatedly. I guess this is a great example of gentle parenting that uses reason instead of strict parenting that focuses on obeying. Maybe for me it is a generational thing. So, while I didn’t really like it, I can very much see how some families will love it.
Chicken Soup For The Soul BABIES: Now! (Barks Dog) by Rajani LaRocca is a cute story that is part of the Chicken Soup for the Soul franchise geared towards kids. Chicken Soup For The Soul BABIES: Now! (Barks Dog) tells the story of a Dog and Dad as they go camping. Dog (the son) has trouble being patient while his Dad is getting things ready so that can do fun things while they are camping. I thought that this book was written and beautifully illustrated. I highly recommend this book. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.
One amazing book for toddlers, that will teach them patience. Told in a super easy way, this book told us about an impatient kid who wants smores, but has to wait. With some notes for parents at the end of the book, this will teach them how to deliver the message to kids.
Little doggy is going camping and wants s'mores NOW! But there are several things to do first. Little doggy has to wait...and waiting is hard!
This is a lovely, relatable book for toddlers and preschoolers. Learning to wait is a challenge and this book will provide validation for kids' frustration as well as examples of how to manage when they need to have patience. The art is lively and full of fun details for kids to notice. The vocabulary is very simple, which is perfect for little ones and new readers. This would be an excellent circle-time book for preschool and a good story to have on the shelf at home to help kids practice their patience.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Okay, so this book is amazing for any preschool teacher or parent of a toddler. I am the parent of a very impatient 2 year old who will now have this book read to her daily.
The book follows a dad, his kid "Doggy", and some friends on a camping trip to a national park. We all know how delicious and exciting S'mores are...Doggy feels impatient and can't wait to make them. The dad calmly walks Doggy through what needs to be done before they can make their evening camping treat.
The illustrations are adorable and this is a book that I am more than happy to share with my kid. Thank you so much to NetGalley and Charlesbridge for this ARC. I am positive I would have gotten this book if I ever came across it in a store or at the library.
Going camping can be adventure and if your family loves the camping scene, you will want to share this book with your littlest of campers. Camping baby animal style. Colorful illustrations on how to set up camp and you can't go wrong with smores. A lesson on waiting for those smores can be difficult.
Several lessons in this one. Waiting usually results in what needs to be done first. A great lesson book on vitures.
A special thank you to Charlesbridge and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
The old saying..."Patience is a virtue" is a very valuable lesson to learn early on in life. This proverb means that it is a good quality to be able to tolerate something that takes a long time.
Dog and his Dad are off on a camping trip. The only thing that Dog focuses on is the yummy dessert s'mores and he wants some IMMEDIATLEY!!!! Patiently his Dad coaches him through the steps that have to take place first. They must find a suitable campsite, erect a tent, settle in their belongings, and build a campfire.... THEN.... let the s'mores celebration begin. Hurray!!!!!!
This sweet board book has adorable animal characters including a moose, rabbit, and fox. The illustrations are vibrant and colourful and perfectly engage that targeted age group. "Chicken Soup for the Soul Babies: Now! (Barks Dog)" imparts good values through heartwarming and humorous stories to help little ones put their best foot forward. I highly recommend this book.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the ARC. This book helps teach toddlers the art of patience and waiting through a fun, adventurous book. Lovely illustrations to keep the reader engaged.
In this colorful book, animals go camping and enjoy making s’mores after learning about patience. The dog is the lead animal, showing the others how to set up camp, but other animals include a moose, rabbit, and fox. A subtle lesson on patience and a great introduction to going campling.
This is a really cute book for young children about patience. The dog had to learn again and again that you can’t always get what you want immediately and you will be rewarded if you wait. I liked this book and I also liked their other book Everyone says Please Except Cat.
Thank you to Charlesbridge and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Chicken Soup For the Soul BABIES: Now! (Barks Dog) by Rajani LaRocca is an adorable baby book that will teach babies an important lesson. The story revolves around several animals who are going camping. Dog wants to eat smores, but his dad tells him that he has to wait. He can't eat smores until they are ready. According to the description, "this lighthearted board book addresses the need to be patient. Good things await!"
Overall, Chicken Soup For the Soul BABIES: Now! (Barks Dog) is a lovely, heartwarming book for babies. I remember reading Chicken Soup for the Soul (but for teens) when I was a teenager, and I have a lot of great memories of that series. I was really interested in reading this book because I wondered how the series would adapt for babies. One highlight of this book is how the book teaches children an important lesson about patience. If you're intrigued by the description, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in June!
