I love these Book Club Kits and especially the ones that include an interview with the author. I am impressed with how well thought out these book club kits are. They always include really great extras, like the videos and the bookmarks. I think they're a great resource for a book club to use. The included discussion questions are perfect for encouraging deeper exploration of the book's characters and themes, and I loved how Netgalley began including this in request. Will definitely use in the near future with my very own book club.
This is a great resource to help guide a discussion for a small or large bookclub group. I think that the content provided within this book club kit is just enough to really help lead a discussion while also leaving room for things that come up among members.
I wanted to express my appreciation for The Rumor Game and the accompanying Bookclub Kit. I am personally very interested in reading this novel and feel it would be a valuable addition to my classroom. The curriculum thoughtfully addresses important and timely issues, and I especially appreciate how potential triggers are identified along with resources for mental health support.
Unfortunately, my school does not have the funding to purchase this text at this time, and my principal also raised concerns about the sensitive content. While I understand his reservations, I believe it’s critical for students to engage with challenging material in a supportive environment.
One suggestion I have is to include more differentiated resources within the kit. Perhaps providing a set of adaptable slides could help teachers tailor the content more effectively to different learning levels. This would be a great addition to an already fantastic set of discussion questions.
Thank you for your efforts in creating meaningful and engaging resources. I look forward to the possibility of using this text in the future!
Whoever did the graphic design for this kit deserves a raise. The theme and content are truly next level.
I appreciate the interactive layout design, which fits the story premise. Although I haven't read the book, the book kit provided an overview of its content and message. The interview and 'meet the author' page provided me with more information about the author, as well as the motivation and backdrop for how the narrative was inspired and developed. Aside from that, it would be good to have some sort of character profile so that we could get into greater detail about the characterisation, as well as some other item other than a bookmark, such as a postcard print or character visualisation. Overall, I love the contents and the supplementary components, such as book recommendations, a discussion questionnaire, and a bookmark.
"Rumors" by Dhonielle Clayton and Sona Charaipotra
"Rumors" by Dhonielle Clayton and Sona Charaipotra is a gripping social thriller set in the elite world of Foxham Prep. The novel brilliantly captures the volatile nature of high school politics and the destructive power of rumors. With well-drawn characters and a fast-paced plot, Clayton and Charaipotra explore themes of reputation, rivalry, and redemption. The shifting dynamics between Bryn, Georgie, and Cora keep readers on the edge of their seats, while the underlying commentary on social media's impact on youth adds depth to the story. This book is a must-read for fans of contemporary young adult fiction that tackles real-world issues with both suspense and insight.
Fantastic kit for use in book club meetings. We struggle with discussing the book (we usually say a few worked about it and then start chatting about anything in general) and this will help us to stay on track.
Another great bookclub kit!
I love the design of the author interview how it was a group chat. The discussion questions were great and are perfect for a book club. I also love that they included a what to read next section. The bookmark designs were awesome!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read the kit!
This is great! I'm in two bookclubs, I think we can use this for future meetings, thanks for providing it for use.
I really liked this. My book club is reading this book now and we have a meeting later this week and I'm so happy I stumbled across this so that we can use it in book club and talk about it. I love that it has extra things about the book and from the author
As a current Book Club Organizer, this Book Club Kit was very helpful. I enjoyed the Author chats and the insight in what to ask to then have more discussion questions for meet ups. The creating open communication section really was beneficial as well. Overall the guide was straight to the point, well written. It kept my attention and had me searching other kits.
I absolutely loved this book club kit. Content warnings start off this kit, which is honestly something that I’m really going to be expecting from all kits moving forward. This one does start off with a note that there are spoilers included, which is certainly important to note. As someone who hasn’t read the book and didn’t know much about it prior, I utilized some scanning of this kit in order to determine whether I would want to read it.
Of the content I read, I did really appreciate this one and do see it as something that is one hundred percent necessary to include in a reading of The Rumor Game.. The format was exceptionally fun and I loved each included resource, especially the one for mental health support. I can’t wait to pick up this book and take a look at how this kit supplements it!
Impeccable design. I loved how they formatted this like an ipad or iphone. The creating open communication guide (for adult and kids) was an excellent touch.
A great guide for any Book Club especially one willing to brave teen, YA, and adult conversations throughout the novel. The "What to Read Next" suggestions were spot on and relevant. We need more kits like this.
I enjoyed this title quite a bit! I haven’t been able to focus on YA titles due to my work focusing on adult fiction, but I am glad I picked this up. If a younger book club chose it, I think they would have a good discussion, and it would be fun for older teens to read.
Oh yes, my book club wants to discuss THE RUMOR GAME this year, and I'm so glad I found this handy kit!
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC.
Opinions are mine.
I really liked the format of the book club discussion. I liked how everything looked like it was on a phone, which perfectly fits the vibe of the book. I also enjoyed the conversation between the two authors, especially formatted as group chat messages.
Super fun! Love these book club kits! I love the interviews with the author and the different activities for the book club to do!
Important topics need the right guide that helps them be discussed, and I can't wait to do that with my book club and our first book of the new year!
Thanks to We Are Bookish and NetGalley, who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion.
"Book Club Kit: The Rumor Game" by Dhonielle Clayton and Sona Charaipotra offers an intriguing concept for book clubs, providing a framework for engaging discussions. The inclusion of thought-provoking questions and activities enhances the communal reading experience. However, the execution falls short in terms of diversity in book selections and discussion prompts. The kit's potential is hindered by a lack of depth and variety in the chosen titles, limiting its universal appeal. While it serves as a useful resource for book clubs seeking structure, a more inclusive and diverse approach would elevate its effectiveness.
