I started this one on my drive home from California and was cracking up. The two main characters meet in such a funny situation, I could not help laughing out loud. From that point, I was hooked. Kate Spencer does an excellent job with character development. This romance plot was very well done. I would highly recommend this book.
*I listened to the audiobook and would recommend the narrator.
Have you ever had an embarrassing moment… in public… that was captured on social media… and went viral?!?!
I hope not! I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, but that’s how the hilarious and cringe worthy meet-cute goes in this fun romcom!
Personally, I think it was all worth it, I mean these two opposites would never have come together without the cosmos pushing them at each other in embarrassing circumstances!
Franny is having the worst day of her life when she is rescued by a knight in a Gucci suit! After he saves her from even more embarrassment they don’t expect to see each other again… but fate has more in store for these two!
Next thing you know Heyes; reduce of Franny goes viral and they are forced together again to live up their 15 minutes of fame. Now a series of awkward interactions and coincidence continues to bring them together in different ways in the city of millions… will they eventually take the hint and fall for each other???
🎧I had the pleasure to listen to this audiobook last week and found myself fully immersed in Franny and Hayes’s New York! The dual narrators brought this story to life! I could literally close my eyes and feel I was there. Definitely top notch voice acting with vivid description.
This book was not what I expecting, but I loved the journey it took me on across New York. Franny and Heyes reminded me of the utterly perfect couplings you find in Abby Jimenez’s work- her fans do not want to miss this book!

Love!!! Quick writing, and EXCELLENT narration. What if you met your great love on the most embarrassing day of your life? After showing half of her rump to the entire NYC subway, Franny meets a handsome stranger who lends her his suit jacket and saves her from embarrassment. Hiccups, miscommunication, and crossed wires abound. Hilarious hijinks are plentiful. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I love everything about New York City so I knew I had to get my hands on this book since it’s set in NYC. It definitely did not disappoint!
It starts with an adorable, while also humiliating, meet cute on the subway that goes viral online. Franny, feeling down on her luck, is forced to face Hayes, her “rescuer,” again on live TV and even though they don’t plan to see each other again, they keep running into one another as time goes on.
I loved that the storyline was centered on a female trying to build herself back up while remaining authentic to who she really is. Also, the supporting characters had great character arcs, which really made the book that much better.
This was such a fun and inspiring book, and the audiobook version was great! Thanks to Forever and Hachette Audio for my free audio galley!
An amazing debut that still has me smiling! Honestly, what's not to love about this book?!? An embarrassingly hilarious meet-cute, right after being fired - it only gets better from there.
After becoming a social media sensation, Franny just wants to follow her dreams and be happy with her life after everything falls apart. She keeps crossing paths with her Gucci-wearing rescuer, but they're complete opposites and have nothing in common.
I laughed so much through this book, but it also had it's tender moments as well, so it's one I'd gladly read again. The audiobook brought the characters to life, not to mention all the disastrous moments. Definitely one to not miss out on!
Narrator 3 stars and story 3
I felt like both of these narrators were a little too over the top for me. They both really started to annoy me which made it difficult for me to get into the book. A narrator can really make or break a book and in this case it broke it for me.
I think I would have enjoyed this morning if I have physically read it instead.
Would definitely try this author again though
There is the meet-cute and there is a meet-while-my-dress-is-being-ripped-off-my-body-cute!
Ever have one of those days, where nothing seems to go your way? Franny Doyle has been laid off from her job, the subway door ripped off her dress and it is all caught on video. Sure, Hayes Montgomery III gave her his jacket to cover up with but everybody and their brother have already seen. Then to top it off, she and Hayes have unwittingly become social media sensations. But it is not as if they are going to meet again.
Do opposites attract? Fannie is social, talkative, and witty. Hayes is shy, serious, and analytical. Then there is the fact that they seem to keep bumping into each other.
This was a fun light read which made my drives in the car more enjoyable. I enjoyed their banter and fun interactions. If you are looking for a fun meet-cute with NYC as the backdrop, look no further. I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed both narrators.
Thank you to Hachette Audio, Forever and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really love a good meet cute. This one started out great, both characters were so likeable, and their story was one you would want to follow in real life. Both the beginning and the ending were really cute, but I got a little bored in the middle. I sometimes kept zoning out and had to make myself pay attention again. It dragged a bit, but still a great story.
As the synopsis tells you, the book starts off with a bang and grabs your attention. You can’t help but connect instantly with Franny - especially under the circumstances that lead her to meet Hayes. The way this scene unfolds is undeniably one of the funniest rom com moments I’ve ever read.
The book is told in a dual narrative which works well. Hayes is truly a knight in shining armour as he offers Franny his expensive suit jacket. Despite this lovely gesture, it took me quite a while to warm up to his character. He is driven, but socially very introverted. At times, he presents as rather pompous. But as the reader gets to know this character a little more, you can see a side of Hayes that complements Franny very well.
One of my favourite things about the book is to see the personal growth in each of these characters that allows them to come together - timing is everything. There are some emotional moments that highlight the tenderness in this book that express the sensitivity of these characters.
The book really shows New York City in its romantic finest. As Franny and Hayes begin to spend time together, the reader is brought along on a journey of places to visit and things to eat. There are so many scenes in this book worthy of putting on film that I truly hope this book can find its way there.
I thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook version of In a New York Minute which was narrated by Amanda Dolan and Neil Hellegers. Their enthusiastic, expressive voices were well cast as Franny and Hayes. I recommend the audiobook version of this book to those that enjoy audiobooks.
Two strangers are thrown together when the klutzy girl needs saving from the put together, serious man. I think this was a 3 star read for me. Francesca and Hayes are fine on their own but I guess I just didn't see the romance there. It didn't feel totally believable because they are soooo different from each other. Things I did like, the setting and the story line.

Thank you @katespencer @netgalley @hachetteaudio @foreverpub for the chance to listen to this ALC of In a New York Minute by Kate Spencer.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (0-5 scale)
Steam: 🔥 🔥☄️ (0-5 scale) 2 1/2 but not very much of it.
What I’m Starry-Eyed Over:
🤩 New York City (yep, I’m such a sucker for a NYC romance).
🤩 Funniest meet-cute ever—that goes viral. 😍
🤩 Adorable, cute, spunky, fun flirting between Franny & Hayes.
🤩 Opposites attract & the MCs figuring each other out.
🤩 Strong, descriptive physical attraction. “and, wow, was there a lot of him!”
🤩 Such real characters trying to grow and become better versions of themselves.
🤩 Narrators Amanda Dolan and Neil Hellegers were perfectly matched for the characters.
🤩 Amazing friend group!!!
🤩 Searching for family members you’ve never met.
What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About:
💫 Slow burn is hard on some of us greedy readers.
🤩 But, when they finally admit they want each other, it is so worth the wait with a rainy, wet clothing scene.
💫 But, then there's more on-off relationship that's hard to take & NO MORE steam after holding out through the hard parts. Bummer!
Franny goes viral on social media on the worst day of her life. She just got fired and her dress ripped down the middle on the Q train, flashing all of NYC. There isn’t a more perfect meet-cute than a guy handing over his Gucci blazer to hide your tuchus. But I think the best part is they continue to run into each other on every NYC corner.
This book was so much fun! When anyone is going to ask me what is the perfect rom-com, I am going to answer “In A New York Minute”. This story had everything from hilarious laugh out loud moments, memorable characters to a heartwarming romance. Because they were so different Franny and Hayes banter is great. Also Spencer killed it with the NYC backdrop.
When Estelle emailed me gushing about this book, I was like you are supposed to say that! But I am calling it now; this is going to be in every vacation, beach and travel bag this summer. The “It” book of Summer 2022!
Audiobook review: I absolutely loved that we got dual narrators. Amanda Dolan did a flawless job as Franny. Neil Hellegers who narrated Hayes was harder to follow as I found him to be not so engaging.
Thank you Foreverpub for gifting me a copy of this eARC & ALC in exchange for my honest review.
Snowy Saturdays a perfect for curling up with a good book. Lucky for me, I had one I enjoyed so much I read it straight through in one sitting.
Franny is having a terrible day when a Subway wardrobe malfunction becomes a meet cute that goes viral. But in real life, they are not a match, or so they think. But as they keep running into each other there may be something more there after all.
About 20 minutes into this one, I was laughing out loud and had an extreme bagel craving (that I took care of quickly thanks to UberEats). I think this book has one of the most memorable and funniest meet cutes I’ve ever seen. Truly it was the best and had me howling with laughter. And the book just kept me so happy from there. This was a slow burn but it was filled with that special feeling of anticipation, hope and possibility. It was truly a joy to read - between the witty banter, the beautiful friendship between Franny and her two besties, and of course all of the New York culture. This book was exactly what I hope for when I pick up a rom com and I can’t wait to read more from Kate Spencer.
I adored the female narrator, but the male narrator was challenging to follow as he spoke much faster.
Thank you to Forever Publishing and NetGalley for the advanced copy.

Book Review:
I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook! I really loved the female narrator for Franny and the male narrator grew on me as we learned more about Hayes and was a perfect fit in the end.
I really loved the meet cute and how it went viral because it felt believable and real and so embarrassing for Franny. I really loved the opposites that Franny and Hayes were as well as it allowed for tension with the miscommunication due to how reserved and awkward Hayes is.
It was a perfect light listen and enjoyed the ride with them from meeting under not great circumstances on the subway, to the story ending back with them on the subway finally fully together.
I also really enjoyed the supporting characters in this one and felt that they helped move the story along and made sense for when inserted into the story.
I just wish we would have gotten a bit more depth of their love story before the book was over, and a epilogue would have been wonderful!
Thank you NetGalley and Hachette Audio for the ARC of this audiobook! I am so thankful to have obtained a copy to listen to it in advance of its release!
IN A NEW YORK MINUTE opens with Franny, suddenly laid off and heading home with her work belongings... just for the subway doors to close on her favorite silk dress and rip it right down the back. She's saved from flashing people all the way home by a handsome stranger (Hayes) who gifts her the Gucci jacket off his back.
I really loved this book's opening! There also are a few great subplots, and I'm a sucker for a book set in NYC (bagels are deservedly referenced at least half a dozen times).
And yet... the romance itself didn't quite work for me. I felt the chemistry between Franny and Hayes, as well as the good luck in their chance encounters, but didn't see what actually made them a good fit (maybe I just needed more scenes of them happy together?). I found myself a few times feeling like I was being told how to feel about the characters and their relationship, rather than coming to those conclusions myself.
To be sure, there's a lot to like here! And I think friends have generally enjoyed this one more than I did, so if the synopsis interests you I definitely think it's worth a shot.
Romance is a genre that sometimes works better for me via text, and sometimes via audio -- for this book, I thought audio was the way to go! I liked that there were two narrators (one for each of the main characters) and thought they helped bring the text alive.
Netgalley Review
First of All the cover is amazing.... its exactly what i love, really catches the eye, and the Character look like they are described in the Book which is always a Pet peeve of Mine.
I read the Audio version by Amanda Dolan and Neil Hellegers, i really enjoyed the Narration.
So the Story Starts Off with Franny, a Interior designer who just got Laid off and has an embarrassing meet cute with the drool worthy Hayes AKA #HotSuit! After what seems to be a traumatic Subway ride Franny discovers Her and Hayes are a new # Sensation after being captured in color!
Its definitely Fate re imagined in the 21st century!
👔 Franny is a bit of a Hot Mess, Clutzy and Accident prone who thinks before speaking.
👔 Hayes Stoic, closet Nerd and divorced
👔 "A baby sprinkle" Another word for Baby shower... Brilliant!
👔 The cringe worthy TV interview had me thinking of someone getting surprised on Ant and Dec's Saturday night takeaway!
👔 Francesca Bananisca.... Fave foot in Mouth moment if there ever was one i could feel Myself blushing for Franny!
👔 The most talkative couple i think i have ever read when getting down and dirty......
👔 Franny's Descriptive inner Monologue... who thinks in that much description when Smelling someone, Looking at their eyelashes even his shirt.... still it was funny at times too...
The book started out really strong... I loved the premise... I loved the T.V Interview..... I wasn't keen On the Fact there was a "Serena". I get that it worked in a way, but after Hayes Initial feelings i was kinda stumped why this happened..... After the T.V Interview the book Felt a bit dragged out, in such an amount of Pages not a lot happened.... And i could Couldn't get my head around how Franny reacted to Hayes at the Hospital... i Kind of ended up disliking her a little. The lost Family story didn't come to much fruition.... It Just felt another excuse for Franny's Behavior rather than a positive element....
It will be a 3 Star read for me, It wasn't bad in any way parts i really enjoyed, It just wasn't something that gave me the feels while laughing, if the book had of carried on like it did from the start it may have been a 5 star.

This book has one of the most memorable meet-cutes that I've ever read, and I was hooked from the first chapter. This was such a fun, light-hearted rom-com, and I loved the slow-burn, opposites-attract chemistry between Franny and Hayes. The characters felt really authentic, and I especially liked the strong family and friendship themes that ran throughout. Both characters had such great support systems, who were always on hand to help the MCs with their respective life issues (I'd love to be friends with any one of Eleanor, Cleo and Lola!) This was also such a love letter to NYC, and I loved all the mentions of iconic spots, such as the Brooklyn Bridge.
(I listened to the audiobook version, and I thought both narrators were excellent.)
Thank you Hachette Audio for this alc of In a New York Minute, I absolutely adored this sweet and funny story. Frannie is having the worst day of her life. She’s let go from her job and then her dress gets stuck and rips in the subway doors. A gentleman steps in to help by giving her his coat. Unbeknownst to them, someone documents the whole exchange and dubs them the “subway cuties.” This goes viral and Frannie ends up on a morning show to be reunited with her handsome stranger. The exchange is incredibly awkward. Frannie and the handsome stranger, Hayes, go their separate ways, but keeping being thrown together.
I absolutely loved this! Once I started I didn’t want to stop listening! It was sweet, funny, and heart-warming. I loved that we got both Frannie and Hayes perspectives.
I will update with a link when I share to my bookstagram page.
One thing I know for certain is that In a New York Minute has one of the most memorable meet cutes I've ever read.
Franny was not having a good morning. After being laid off at her job, this generally fun and free interior designer found herself cramped on the subway, box full of her personal items from her office, thinking she'd just been through the worst. But then her dress rips in the subway car door. Flashing the whole of NYC's subway system should have ended in complete disaster for Franny. But then Hayes comes to her rescue, offering his jacket, and suddenly these two complete strangers find themselves plastered all over social media as the #SubwayQTs. But Hayes - the stern, analytical finance and investment guy - believes he has nothing in common with someone like Franny. But then circumstances keep throwing them together. And then their casual conversations get a bit more personal. Drawn together against all logic, Franny and Hayes realize that sometimes your lives change in the blink of an eye and what starts as a hashtag online can end up being so much more.
I should probably feel bad for how many times I laughed at Franny's misfortune at the beginning of this book. But Spencer created such a fantastic plot and atmosphere; even at her worst moments, I could still feel Franny's perseverance even when things seemed at their worst. I know I would be mortified if I had the same subway experience as Franny, and while she didn't just brush it off like it was no big deal (who would? Or even could?) I loved how Spencer's character handled every little obstacle that was thrown her way. Franny is far from perfect, but I loved how that translated into very real reactions to everything. Do we shut down and often self-sabotage when our lives are turned upside down? Do we feel guilty when we feel like we've bad kids, even as adults? Of course we do, and I loved seeing that realness of being an adult depicted so perfectly in a fictional character. Franny could easily be me or any one of my friends, all of us still trying to figure out life in our thirties.
I initially thought Hayes might be too stiff for me to like as a character. He saw Franny when her world was falling apart, and his only reaction was to silently hand her his jacket after it became clear she had no other options. I thought there was no way they could conceivably and believably end up together. But Spencer truly worked some magic with Hayes, gradually turning opening him up and transforming him from a cold, stoic man into the softer, lovable guy that both Franny and readers can fall for. Their meet cute was memorable, but I will definitely be remembering their journey through the ups and downs together just as much.
I actually switched back and forth between the eARC and the audiobook of In a New York Minute. I'm so glad I gave the audiobook a listen; we do get dual narrators, and I love that both Franny and Hayes were given distinct voices. Amanda Dolan did a impeccable job at bringing Franny to life, especially during the times when Franny was emoting stronger than usual. Likewise, Neil Hellegers gave Hayes the exact cadence and nuances I picked Hayes having while reading the printed words. I love dual narrators for stories with dual points of view, and this audiobook was fun to listen to and all around entertaining.
While the romance was plenty spicy, I loved all the other aspects of the plot as well. Spencer gave us opposites attract and second chance romance. I also enjoyed her handling of found families and rekindling bonds with biological families. I thought both Franny and Hayes's character development (both as a couple and as individuals) was enjoyable and very much worth the read and/or listen.
This is a sweet love story that takes place in New York. The couple has a “meet-cute” in the subway and can’t seem to stop running into each other ever since. I thought it was a sweet story but it has the miscommunication trope and it drives me crazy when the characters make things way harder than they need to be. It was also kind of unrealistic how fast they fell in love. Regardless, it was still an enjoyable experience and the ending was adorable!
