In a New York Minute is a super sweet and laugh out loud funny romantic comedy. Franny is having the absolute worst day — she’s been laid off from her interior design firm and now her favorite silk dress has been ripped to shreds on the subway. A dashing stranger on the train steps in to save the day and the moment goes viral! Fate has these two complete opposites running into each other all over the city.
I thought this was absolutely delightful and lighthearted rom-com!
The characters were all well-written and I especially loved all of the side characters. Everyone was written very realistically and they felt very relatable. It is dual-POV with alternating chapters and I enjoyed being able to get to know the love interest, Hayes, through his POV.
This is definitely a slow burn romance. Franny and Hayes spend most of the book getting to know each other and becoming friends before anything romantic happens between them.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher (Forever) for providing an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Such a cute fun story, i loved the dual prespective of the book and that there was a narrator for each prespective it really added to the story as it was almost line like hayes and franny were reading their own parts.
Thank you to Forever and Grand Central Publishing for my gifted review copy.
This was an absolutely perfect rom-com! I loved the main characters, Franny and Hayes, who after an awkward meeting on the subway go viral on the internet together. This book was perfectly predictable, adorable, and entertaining and I loved the focus on friendship as well.
I appreciated that the characters felt real and authentic and the sub stories and smaller characters were equally cute and relatable, and adding some laughs throughout. This isn't a super steamy read but this meet-cute storyline was just delightful and endearing.
Author Kate Spencer has such a an engaging writing style that kept me turning the pages until the very end. For anyone looking for a perfect weekend read, this is a great and super charming choice!
I listened to this via audiobook and the two narrators did a wonderful job bring this story to life! Thank you to Forever, Machete Audio and NetGalley for my review copies.
I wont to go to New York and feel it and admire everything. I was not such a fun of the main characters. A little to slow burning but that is not really important at the end. I loved all the friends and the friendship dynamics. I would put more drama maybe and steam but lovely anyway. It was a fast and funny listening.
Thank you Netgalley and Hachette Audio for this ALC.
In A New York Minute by Kate Spencer is a vibrant romance about two charming characters who meet on the subway. I was immediately drawn into the story by its entertaining and cinematic qualities. At points I as laughing out loud, but also rooting for the characters to find their way. When we meet Franny, she has just lost her job as an interior designer and is feeling aimless. She encounters Hayes and his kindness after a mishap on the subway. Hayes is successful but introverted and fully devoted to his career. This is an opposites attract romance, which is a little formulaic in terms of plot, but was very well executed. I loved Franny, Hayes, and their friends and found them so endearing. I also really enjoyed New York as a character in the novel. I listened to the audiobook, which was perfectly narrated by Amanda Dolan for Franny and Neil Hellegers for Hayes. This was such a cinematic, enjoyable read perfect for anyone who enjoys well done rom coms.

I need to begin this review by saying that I couldn’t put In A New York Minute down. I just had to know: do they, don’t they, will they, won’t they!
When Franny and Hayes meet completely by chance in the most embarrassing way in NYC, you are endeared to them both and intrigued by their characters. This novel builds interest in their lives and personalities, including wonderful supporting characters on both sides, and has wit, humour, romantic tension, and some steam. The story is told in alternating POV from both Franny and Hayes, and the author keeps the plot moving deftly. I had the audiobook and enjoyed both narrators and the nuance they added. There was one point near the conclusion where I started to feel a bit frustrated with the characters and their decisions, but it didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the book.
I recommend In a New York Minute, and will look forward to any books Kate Spencer may write in the future.
Thank you so much to Hachette Audio for the advance reader copy of the audiobook.
This was a cute, modern day rom-com set in NYC featuring Franny, a down on her luck girl who has just been let go from her job and is having a terrible day. To make things even worse her dress tears in the subway door leaving her backside completely bare! Cue, handsome stranger in a suit, Hayes Montgomery III, who gallantly gives her his jacket.
Franny never thinks she'll see this stranger again but to her surprise someone filmed their 'meet cute' and it goes viral. What follows is a series of serendipitous meetups around the city (very Serendipity the movie esque) and though Hayes comes off badly during the first few encounters, eventually these two warm up to one another.
Overall I enjoyed this book. It's very sweet and PG. Think a classic Nora Ephron movie. Recommended for fans of Lauren Kate, Lauren Layne or Melissa Ferguson. I enjoyed the dual perspective but wish it would have been explicitly addressed whether Hayes was actually on the spectrum or is just very socially awkward. It would have made for a more interesting story in my opinion if he was.
Much thanks to NetGalley and Forever for my advance review copies. This was great on audio with two narrators as well.
Thank you Netgalley and Hachette Audio for this ARC. This book was not for me! I did finish it, but it was a struggle.
Story: There were a few parts that I chuckled, but overall, I found the characters annoying; the main and secondary. Hayes and Franny seemed forced, more like caricatures of people. The dialog was very cliché. Everything is feelings… “I don’t feel anything with her.” There is a lot of “he said”, “she said”. Although Franny seems to be a strong independent woman, who does not take sh*t from anyone, she does not feel complete until she connects with Hayes. Their breakup was also an unbelievable reason with the amount of feelings that were supposedly there not a few pages before, they quickly brushed each other off after sleeping together. (2 stars)
Audio: If I could have listened to an excerpt first, I probably wouldn’t have chosen this audiobook. Although the female narrator caught the quirkiness of Franny, her voice change for characters were not very different, and as I said, the characters annoyed me. Her narration grew on me after a while. The male narrator had a voice that seems a lot older than the 30-year-old, Hayes. I never warmed up to him at all (2 stars).
