Save your money- I wouldn't call many of the recipes "Christmas Recipes" at all-nothing good to say about this cook book.
I received an ARC of this cookbook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book is full of delicious recipes that pair up with popular holiday movies. There are also menus and beautiful pictures!
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon Element for an advanced copy.

Christmas in July was in full swing around here and it was the perfect time to enjoy this fun new cookbook!
I love Christmas, I love baking and I love cookbooks so this was perfect for me.
The Christmas Movie Cookbook features recipes for everyone's favorite Christmas movies.
Everything from The Polar Express Hot Chocolate to Guacamole-Stuffed Eggs from Rise of the Guardians, the plain cheese pizza we all remember from Home Alone to the must-have Hickory-Honey Ham from Christmas with the Kranks! The Christmas/Holiday movies featured covered just about everything... children's favorites to old classics and even those "that's not Christmas" movies like Gremlins and Die Hard. Tend to like the more "spooky" side of Christmas? No worries, those are covered too with The Nightmare Before Christmas and Krampus!
I had so much fun with this book! Oh my gosh, I lost count of all the recipes I made note of to try! Seriously, I want to make almost all of them! Of course, I started with one of my favorite movies, The Santa Clause! Those Giant Chocolate Chunk Cookies are amazing!!
I love the pictures that were included, the layout (at least on Kindle) is festive. Each sections is broken up making it easy to find things like Salads, Drinks, Desserts, etc. And at the beginning of each section is the list of all recipes featured along with the movie. This made finding things extremely easy, especially if we wanted a specific movie instead of recipe. Along with the recipe instructions, the movie details are also included which is a nice little touch in case someone hasn't seen the movie yet.
An overall fantastic cookbook, perfect for anyone who loves Christmas recipes and especially for those who love Christmas movies! Would make an absolutely fantastic gift! I had a copy already added to my Christmas Wish List!
The book has some sample menus for themed parties, along with gathering tips, and it encourages getting together to view holiday movies as you eat the items. Chapters are Beverages, Breakfast & Breads, Appetizers, Soups, Salads & Sides, Main Dishes, and Desserts. Each recipe lists the movie it was inspired by, and the book also includes a brief (paragraph or so) description of the movie. Some of the movies are better known than others, and there is a Die Hard recipe in here. The recipes all have a color photograph (holiday theme of course). I wouldn't say that the recipes are all necessarily specifically holiday (some would be welcome at any time of year), but their connection to a holiday movie makes their inclusion appropriate.
This is a fun book for those who love the holidays, holiday movies, and cooking. It would be a great gift or item to take to a white elephant exchange.
Are you a fan of Christmas Movies and the food? Look no further! There are entertaining tips and recipes here! These recipes are inspired by Holiday movies like Polar express (hot chocolate), Family Stone (breakfast Strata!), And even some netflix movies like Holiday in the Wild (Chapati).
In my household, we absolutely love Christmas movies! Not only are they a part of our holiday traditions, but if we're being honest my kids and I are known to watch them all throughout the year! They are some of our absolute favorites.
Aside from watching Christmas movies, we also love to cook/bake around the holidays too! Truly, how many holiday traditions revolve around food!?
When I heard about The Christmas Movie Cookbook, I knew it was going to be an absolute must have for our household and I couldn't wait to check it out. And I absolutely loved it! This featured some of our holiday favorites, with recipes that we cannot wait to try. Some of them are exactly what we would have expected: Roast Beef (Beast) from the Grinch, Hot Chocolate from Polar Express, and Cheese Pizza from Home Alone (admittedly, both my son and I both first guessed that it might be mac and cheese instead, but cheese pizza truly was a perfect recipe for this one too!) Others are a bit more loosely based on the movie--- where it takes place, things like that. Some recipes are more holiday specific, whereas others can be made all year long. The movies featured were classics as well as new favorites like The Christmas Chronicles. There were even recipes from those debatable holiday favorites like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon--- which made my husband super happy as well.
This cookbook was so much fun to read through, and we already have a list started to cook/bake as we watch these holiday favorites this season! If you're a die hard Christmas movie fan, this is an absolutely must have! I love it!
**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All thoughts are my own.
I was so happy when I saw this title app and I went to download this cookbook. Christmas is my favorite holiday and now I have more recipes to try. This cookbook also gave me some new movie ideas. Some of these movies I had not seen before. The photos were fantastic very vibrant. I can’t wait to add this book to my library.
Beautiful Christmas cookbook. The films include a blend of classic choices along with some that are a bit more obscure. The recipes don’t all have an explicit connection to their individual movie, but they all look yummy and each has a gorgeous color photo. Would make a great holiday gift for some lucky cookbook collector.
The Christmas Movie Cookbook has recipes that are inspired by the movies they reference and may not be a dish specifically mentioned in the film. The author has dotted the pages with interesting tidbits about the shows, with movies from children's, to holiday, and to adult favorites. The cookbook has a good introduction, including tips about entertaining and holiday menu options.
The recipe sections are listed below, with some of the standout dishes.
Beverages: Really Rich Hot Chocolate; Spiked Spiced Cider
Breakfast & Breads: Buckwheat Pancakes; Chapati; Yorkshire Pudding with Herbs
Appetizers& Soups: Seafood and Sausage Gumbo; Hearty Vegetable Stew
Salad & Sides: Quinoa, Kale and Sweet Potato Salad; Creamy Mashed Potatoes
Main Dishes: General Tso's Chicken; Roast Turkey with Pomegranate Sauce; Corned Beef and Cabbage; Chicken Pot Pie
Desserts: Three-Layer Mint Brownies; "Peanuts" Butter Cookies; Linzer Star Cookies; Christmas Pudding
Based on the feeling of the movies, the traditions they may invoke, The Christmas Movie Cookbook is a great gift idea for the movie lover. This cookbook is interesting and inviting, making it one that I would recommend to others.
Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to read and review this cookbook was entirely my own.
This cookbook might not release until September, but with the amount of "Christmas in July" emails and social-media posts I've seen lately, reading it now felt timely and apropos! Of course, I'm also officially starving now, and really want some festive food. :D
The whimsical photography throughout is utterly gorgeous, and probably my favorite part. (Can whoever came up with the decor please come decorate my place come Christmas?) :)
I love the menu ideas to round out a given viewing party--brilliant! (And all themed, no less!)
The variety of recipes mean there's truly something for everyone--and same goes for the movies. Given that, there's plenty kid- and family-friendly...and plenty that's not. I personally don't drink, and go for cleaner movie options--so there's enough I'll skip--but the author does a good job at making it (thankfully) fairly clear which is which here. She includes helpful movie recaps and clear instructions for making the recommended dish.
I might have geeked out at the inclusion of _Last Holiday_ and a cassoulet to go with it--both are definitely being earmarked for my December festivities! _A Christmas Carol_ and roast goose also sound particularly good...as do, frankly, all of the desserts. Chocolate-pecan snowballs! Sugar plums! Spiced pumpkin tarts! Linzer star cookies! Oh, man ... now I'm drooling. Ha!
For ongoing cookbook/movie enjoyment, I'd lean toward Rachel McMillan's A Very Merry Holiday Movie Guide; I'm a sucker for Hallmark-style movies!
3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.
I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon Element for an early copu of The Christmas Move Cookbook in exchange for an honest review.
There is nothing better than Christmas movies at the holidays to get you in the spirit and a new fun cookbook to fill the plates while viewing new and old favorites. Julia Rutland introduces each recipe with a movie tie in, she uses some of the classics like Its a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th St, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Home Alone with some unconventional ones; Anna and the Apocalypse, Rise of the Guardians or Die Hard (yes, this is a Christmas movie to me!). Some of these pairs make perfect sense to me (Really Rich Hot Chocolate with Polar Express) and some are more of a stretch (Quinoa, Kale & Sweet Potato Salad for Last Christmas). Each recipe includes a description of its movie pairing, an ingredient list and instructions. I have an early ARC so I do not have a lot of photos but the ones I do are bright and cheery. The recipes are not all that original (meatloaf, sweet potato pie, General Tso's Chicken) there are a few I will be testing out and look forward to add them to my repertoire (Whiskey-Pomegranate Sour, Japanese Christmas Cake, Chapati). Overall, this is a very fun concept and a unique addition to your holiday viewings and gatherings.
I liked that this book covered a wide variety of Christmas movies, but it was a bit too all over the map. I would have loved to see complete menus tied to individual movies. As it is most movies had only one dish which makes it nearly impossible to do a proper party tied to a movie. I was expecting something more cohesive.
A fun cookbook that had me longing for the holidays.
There are over 65 recipes in this cookbook. Not a lot of pictures, but what there are, are well done. I enjoyed the information about the movie that’s included with each recipe.
For this review, I made the Overnight Orange-Cinnamon Rolls inspired by the movie Arthur Christmas. The recipe instructions were straight forward and easy to follow. Not a difficult recipe, but it does take a little time, especially with letting the dough rise overnight. I loved that the rolls had an orange filling in addition to the orange icing. It made for some very delicious orangey rolls.

This charming cookbook would be perfect for Christmas party gift exchange. Next time you're in need of a gift for someone you don't know well and you are bored of candles and gift cards, this crowd-pleaser will come to the rescue! The recipes in this book range from classics such as Miracle on 34th Street and Christmas-adjacent stories such as Lethal Weapon. The photos are beautiful and the recipes are excellent. The Pigs in a Blanket (from Shrek the Halls) were the best damn party food ever. Speaking of parties, this would be an excellent starting place for planning a themed Christmas party. Basically, you need this book.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of The Christmas Movie Cookbook.
This was a great read filled with recipes from Christmas movies, most of which I've seen.
The photos came through well on my Kindle and they were well photographed.
For the most part, the recipes are easy to follow and not labor intensive or time consuming.
As usual, I love the section on dessert.
There were a handful of movies mentioned I haven't seen like Tokyo Godfathers, but I'm going to watch it now.
My only caveat is that some of the movies mentioned are TV movies, which is fine, but I think it would have been easier to focus on only Christmas movies seen on the big screen.
The Christmas Movie Cookbook is exactly what it sounds like - a cookbook with recipes paired with holiday classics! I really enjoyed it and will make a few recipes this week, namely the really rich hot chocolate (paired with The Polar Express) and peanut butter cookies (paired with what else but the Peanuts classic, A Charlie Brown Christmas!) A lot of the movies were foreign to me, I have never heard of at least 40% of them, and I’m a huge Christmas movie fan. I would definitely check out a few based on the descriptions…I really appreciated that each movie came with a little blurb!
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a review and opinions are my own.
5 star cookbook right here!
I was so excited to be approved for this particular ARC! I freekin love Christmas movies more than the actual holiday 😆
This book has everything, and unlike other themed cookbooks, the recipes actually match food served in the movie! The pictures are wonderful, the recipes range from beginner to pro, and the directions are easy to follow! This is a must for my shelf, and anyone else that loves the Christmas movies as much as I do!
A cookbook like this should be three things: fun, beautifully photographed, and have good recipes. This book delivers on all three!!
You will have fun searching for the recipes inspired by your favorite Christmas movie (ours is "Christmas with the Kranks" - you can't beat laughing about Hickory Honey Ham on p. 108!!)
It makes a great host/hostess gift, birthday gift, and of course Christmas gift, as well as a fun book to pick for a book exchange or book club (each of you pick a recipe and bring it!)
I would love to have one of these as a hard copy. Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC e-book as a reviewer.
What's more fun than curling up under a favorite blanket to watch a Christmas movie? Creating themed food to eat while enjoying the movie!
This book pairs Christmas movies and specials with matching recipes. Some of the movies are familiar to me, and others I have not seen. The recipes provide a fun theme if you host a Movie Night, and tips are included for hosting holiday gatherings.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for a review.
I really enjoyed this cookbook. The author gives you holiday menu party ideas ranging from dessert parties, holiday break sleepovers to feasts of St. Nicholas. All of the recipes are paired with a specific holiday themed movie. The author included many classic movies as well as more modern movies. Included are descriptions of the movies and the pairings suggested. It's a fun book that brought back a lot of memories. I look forward to hosting holiday themed movie nights this coming winter.
Thank you NetGalley and the author for providing a free electronic copy of this book for my honest review. Am incredibly grateful.
