I didn't read the first book in this series, but it works fine as a stand alone. This story is original and as an Ohio native I love that it is set in Ohio. Rachel and Mason are both realistic and relatable. I will definitely move The Float Plan up on my tbr. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good romance.
A delightfully sweet romance featuring a plus size heroine! I cannot tell you how happy it makes me when I see plus size characters represented in romance novels. It makes me feel hope that love is really out there for women who don't fit the mold society deems worthy of love.
The story was well developed and kept you rooting for the main characters and hoping for a happy ending. I went in not realizing this was a sequel but I found it easy to follow along regardless. It did become a little boring in the middle but I knew it would be worth it to finish.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the ARC.
3.5 stars. I didn't love this one as much as Float Plan. I loved the idea of the novel - single mom takes a risk and moves to another state with her young daughter to pursue her dream (and then falls in love with the hotel owner who is her boss). I'm not sure if it was the audio narration or not, but I just did not feel the chemistry between our main characters (and I'm not sure if I've ever said that before so that is saying something). The ending was super rushed in my opinion, and I just felt this one lacked the oomph of Float Plan. However, I will check out whatever Doller writes next!
I LOVED The Suite Spot! I could have listened to this one in a single day, but stretched it out to enjoy longer. I thought it might be more summer camp based on the cover but it was a sweet romance and renovation story which is one of my favorite combos! This one reminded me of how good audiobooks can be! You’ll want to listen for sure!
THE SUITE SPOT is a sweet romance between hotel manager Rachel and brewmaster Mason. Rachel moves to Kelleys Island, a small island in Lake Erie, with her young daughter to manage Mason's new brewery hotel -- just to find that it's yet to be built.
I enjoyed FLOAT PLAN and was really excited when I heard Trish Doller's next book would feature a brewery hotel *and* Lake Erie (see: my desire to visit the DogHouse, a craft beer hotel in Columbus). While some of Mason's beers were described, I felt like there was a bigger focus on decor/how Rachel was decorating the various spaces. It would have been fun to see the story continue long enough for them to start bringing in guests and really operating the business.
I appreciated that there wasn't ever drama for the sake of drama, big blowout fights, etc. -- Rachel and Mason are clearly adults who've been through some things and now have an attraction (and respect!) for each other. At the same time, I was frustrated in parts by Rachel's behavior and think maybe a more assertive match would be a good thing for her.
Still, this was an enjoyable short read, and I think Sarah Naughton was a good choice for audiobook narrator.
I love Trish so much! After reading and falling head over heels for Float Plan, I couldn't wait to read this one! The audio is phenomenal and Trish's writing is incredible. I can't wait for a physical copy of this one for my shelves!
I liked the premise of this book and I want to start by saying thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for granting me a free copy in exchange for an honest review. With that being said, it wasn't my favorite. I guess the story just never entrapped me or held my attention. In the beginning, it was promising because Rachel has a chance to start an entirely new life at a new job in a new place. I was curious to see how everything was going to turn out. The interactions between the two love interests were cute and all but I just don't feel like the story was memorable. I do encourage others to read it because I feel like I just didn't personally connect with the book. I could see others enjoying it.
I adored this book so much and I didn’t want it to end! While being a swoon-worthy romance, this story touched on so many difficult subjects such as child loss, divorce, custody battles, etc. It felt like I was so immersed in the story and knew the characters personally. I felt all the feelings alongside the characters. I was elated, heartbroken, angry, protective, and excited.
The best part for me was that it took place mostly in Northern Ohio along Lake Erie. I’ve lived in Northeast Ohio my whole life so I was familiar with the various landmarks in the book. I felt as if I was actually there since I could picture the area as I read.
This was such a powerful story on so many levels and it really hit home the importance of family and the strong female lead. I highly recommend if you’re looking for a romance that has a fulfilling and meaningful and relatable plot with characters that could have been plucked right out of real life.
What a sweet read. The beginning of the book was a little difficult to get through but once I got past that it was a really enjoyable read. Some of the usual tropes were in it but they were handled differently which I enjoyed. I also really enjoyed the setting!
THE SUITE SPOT review
⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5
I was so excited to dive into this sequel to Float Plan and be back in the world of the Beck sisters! I enjoyed this one. (Although not quite as much as Float Plan.) Even though this is part of a series, you can read this one as a stand alone!
Here’s a summary of the plot:
Rachel Beck is a single mom, living at home, and has recently lost her job. She loves her life in Miami, but on a whim decides to apply for a job in Ohio that seems too good to be true. She’s excited to accept the position of hotel manager, a huge promotion from her last job. But when she gets to Ohio, she finds a moody property owner and a hotel that’s not even fully built yet. Is she making the biggest mistake of her life? Or is she finally where she’s supposed to be?
Something I loved about both books in this series is how they tackle difficult topics but are still a light romance read. This book dealt with grief and struggles of being a single parent. I found Rachel’s behavior/decision making towards the end of the story to be impulsive and rash, and I felt it didn’t match the character development she had displayed during the rest of the book. Other than that, I enjoyed this one!
well. just like tons of other people, i loved float plan. it was so intense and emotional but also light and fun and wonderful. so, naturally, i expected the same from this one. i didn't *quite* get it, but it was still a great read.
i really liked rachel. i really liked mason. i liked all the side characters and the setting of the island. i don't live in ohio, but i live close enough that i've heard about lots of the places mentioned and it made me want to take a road trip! overall, this book was very easy to read, very quick, sweet, lovely, cute, emotional (but not quite as much as i was expecting based on something in mason's past) and i definitely recommend it. it's not a suckerpunch of a book but it was totally delightful and i did enjoy it. now, do we know if this brewery hotel place is real, because i want to go to there.
This is between a 3-3.5 stars! This was a cute story about our main character Rachel starting over. She’s a single mom working at a hotel when she is suddenly fired. She then takes a job in Ohio at a soon to be finished brewery hotel.
I would say this book was lighter on the romance and was mostly a story about finding your way in life. I enjoyed Rachel and Masons relationship but also it felt rushed with not a lot of build up.
If you loved Eevie Drake Starts Over I think you’d also enjoy this one! Also all the beer talk makes me want to go to the nearest brewery for a pint!
Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for my advanced listening copy!
This charming story was an absolute delight. I fell in love with Rachel and Mason and their friends to lovers story.
Rachel’s little girl is a delight too and I like that the conflict in the romance wasn’t about Mason and Rachel’s relationship so much as something that had to do with Rachel as a single mom.
This sweet story is perfect for a quiet moment of reading; preferably rocking on a swing in the backyard at dusk with twinkle lights overhead.
I ABSOLUTELY ADORED THIS BOOK. Rachel is so relatable on so many levels. She was a wonderful MC. It was fun to see tidbits from Anna and Keane.
Mason was soooooooo PERFECT. I am fully in love with him, and he's currently battling Russell from Weather Girl for my favorite book boyfriend.
I loved the hotel, and the process Rachel took to shop and curate it into a perfect space. I loved the time she spent with Mason's mom.
I can't stop gushing, I completely loved this book!!!
Absolutely loved this cute modern day romance. It was a quick listen, kept my attention and just the right amount of steam 🔥! Thanks netgalley!
3.5 rounded up to 4 stars! If you’re looking for a cute and quick dramedy with PG-13 steam/romance, look no further, this book is for you! I went into sweet read this blind and was pleasantly surprised. Major HGTV home (in this case, hotel) makeover plus Hallmark movies and mysteries vibes. Loved the well developed characters individually however the romantic connection between the two felt forced. The narration was very well done and breathed more life and slightly more believability into the story.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press, Macmillan audio, and NetGalley for an advanced listening copy in exchange for an honest review. I did not realize until after reading that this was the second book in the Beck Sisters series and will be going back to read the first book although I understood and enjoyed this as a standalone read.
Trish Dollar has done it again. I love a series where there are overlapping characters, but the author has written each book as a standalone. That is exactly what The Suite Spot is, and I loved it. I had also read Float Plan, and I would say it has the perfect amount of overlap. This book has some emotional topics, but I loved the ending. I would highly recommend this book.
Sarah Naughton’s animated narration brings Trish Doller’s sweet, angsty small-town romance The Suite Spot colorfully to life. Single mom Rachel Beck’s life is standing still. Living at home with her mom, she’s in an unsatisfying off-and-on again relationship with her daughter Maisie’s aimless and unreliable father. Maisie’s the best part of her life—one of the only things that keep her going. When she’s fired unfairly from her job as the night reservations manager at a luxury hotel in Miami Beach, the weight of everything in her life that’s off-track becomes overwhelming. At a crossroads in her life, Rachel impulsively accepts a management position at a brewery hotel on Kelleys Island in Lake Erie, packs up her daughter, and moves cross-country. Handsome, moody, and grumpy, Mason has withdrawn from the town and is dealing with his own sadness and failures. He knows everything about brewing beer, but he, unfortunately, knows next to nothing about building or running a hotel. He offers Rachel the chance at living her dream—carte blanche to design, build, and manage a hotel starting with its foundation.
Naughton’s expressive narration complements Doller’s touching, descriptive, and uplifting story, making her the perfect narrator to tell Rachel’s story. She creates distinct voices for each character—especially Mason, Rachel, and Maisie—using cadence, dialect, pitch, and mood to capture their personalities. Naughton’s narration makes the novel flow smoothly. She perfectly captures Rachel’s self-deprecatory tendencies, fear, pain, and longing for more and her excitement at designing the hotel. Naughton’s voice for Mason is weighed down with his sadness and loss. I love her narration for Maisie. It’s so sweet how she interacts with her mom and Mason. Her Irish accent for Rachel’s brother-in-law is also quite good.
Doller’s vivid description, emotion-filled narrative, and intriguing, likable, and skillfully developed characters totally drew me into this charming novel. A planner, not a risk-taker like her sister, Rachel immediately regrets her impulsivity upon discovering how different the job is from what she expected. But she can’t turn her back on the opportunity to get her life together and follow her dream at the same time. Despite his gruffness, Rachel feels a startling attraction to Mason that only grows stronger as they work together planning the hotel’s design and construction, becoming friends. On the island, Rachel’s free to express her creativity while working the job of her dreams. She and Maisie make friends, develop social connections, and make a home with Mason. Rachel experiences peace, and as the intimate connection she shares with Mason deepens, they help each other heal. I love their interactions. From the start, they are quiet but filled with chemistry, emotion, and a connection that has the potential to be deep and meaningful. I also love the diversity of Doller’s characters, especially Mason, who is multiracial, his mom, and his family.
The Suite Spot is a sweet, sexy, poignant, funny, small-town romance about healing, following your dreams, and discovering where you belong.
Content Warnings:
Sexual Assault, mentions of child death, suicide
As it’s title, this story was sweet and I loved how the male protagonist was one with a deeper tragedy than our main lead. I do feel that maybe he could have been more of a broody type especially with his background and grief - I think it would have made the chemistry more spicy as I prefer but if you’re looking for a sweet, mostly light romance then this is for you.
4.5 Stars
This was such a great read! I loved the confidence that Rachel gained throughout the book, and MASON?! He was such a great book boyfriend! I also really enjoyed the details on making beer throughout the novel. I wasn't totally in love with The Float Plan, but this was a 100% win for me.
