A year ago, they thought they had the perfect family. The father was a respected surgeon, his wife active in the community. The two girls were grown; Tully had a lovely family while Rachel had her own business. Then the wife, Pam, began to be forgetful. Although she was young for it to happen, soon she was diagnosed with dementia and soon had to go live in a memory hospital.

Then the unexpected happened again. Their parents had just been starting a renovation project for their house. Heather is their designer and became friends with Pam before she had to be hospitalized although she is younger than Pam and Stephen's daughters. After Pam is gone, Stephen and Heather fall in love although Heather is younger than Stephen's daughters. Stephen divorces Pam and soon he and Heather are engaged.

That's not all that's wrong. Tully's world is shaken by her husband and by getting caught shoplifting, an activity she has indulged in for years. Her son is having issues she doesn't know how to handle. Rachel is finally starting to face a trauma that happened back in her teen years. The entire family is upside down and now this engagement!

Sally Hepworth is an Australian author who writes mysteries dealing with family issues. I listened to this novel and hearing the Australian accent by the narrator really placed the book in the proper environment. The reader slowly uncovers the mysteries surrounding this family and the biggest mystery which concerns Pam and Stephen. The idea for this book came from an incident that actually happened in Hepworth's own family. This book is recommended for mystery readers.

Secrets...lies...and deception...OH MY! This book was AMAZING!!!

Just when you think the book is going one way, Hepworth wacks you with a curve ball and takes you in a completely different direction! Not all authors can master this, but Sally Hepworth, obviously has mastered the art of writing psychological suspense! This is a book where nothing is as it seems!

The characters are rich and in depth, the story is masterful and full of surprises, and to be quite honest, there's not much I can find at fault with this book (if anything!) The pace moves at an excellent pace, which keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end! This book will leaving you questioning if you really do know those who you think are closest to you!

The Younger Wife is narrated by a stellar cast consisting of Barrie Kreinik, Caroline Lee, Jessica Douglas-Henry and Zoe Carides! I absolutely LOVE when a book has multiple narrators because it seems to help keep the story straight as your listening, and helps you easily distinguish between the characters! Top notch narrations with this one!

Overall, Sally Hepworth knocked it out of the park with this book and it leaves me with a need to devour all things Sally Hepworth! Do yourself a favor and curl up with this one now!

I would like to thank Sally Hepworth, Macmillan Audio, and Netgalley for providing me with a copy of The Younger Wife which allowed me to contribute this honest, and unbiased review!!

Sally Hepworth is pretty hit or miss for me (to be honest, most domestic suspense novels are so it's not just her!) but I actually really enjoyed this one. The pacing was nice (I thought) and though some "twists" you could see coming a mile away, others managed to surprise me! Overall, a solid read.

Sally Hepworth is such a staple in my thriller/mystery TBRs. Her stories are always compelling without being over the top or ridiculous, she writes characters and relationships incredibly well, and the resolutions are always satisfying. This book is no different. I enjoyed the familial relationships in this book and the mystery held my attention the entire time.

The narrator was fantastic took and this book did well in audiobook format.

This story was full of twists and turns that kept me interested until the end. The audiobook was well-done. It was my first time reading something by Sally Hepworth, but it certainly won't be the last!

I listened to this book while I was visiting Australia. Honesty, I think I liked it even more given the context.

Stephen Aston is a respected heart surgeon, and he's getting married again...to a much younger woman. His daughters are not exactly pleased by the whole thing, especially as their mother is still somewhat in the picture. Their mom has Alzheimer's, but every now and then she says something lucid that has her daughters wondering what's really true. Heather (the younger woman) has a few secrets of her own, but she's desperate to become a real part of the family.

I enjoyed the pacing of this story, and seeing the truth start to unfold. I wouldn't say any of the characters are particularly likeable, but I don't really think they're supposed to be, honestly.

The audiobook was particularly well done, and I loved the full cast of characters. It was performed by Barrie Kreinik, Caroline Lee, Jessica Douglas-Henry and Zoe Carides and came in at 9 hours and 18 minutes. It was completely bingeable.

If you enjoyed Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty I think you'll also really enjoy this one. It has similar Aussie family vibes along with the mystery aspect.

Content warning for domestic abuse.

This is a twisty domestic suspense wrapped around some serious issues. Sally Hepworth has won me over!

Sally Hepworth does it again with The Younger Wife. (Aside, whoever does the cover art for her books also does not miss!)

I am a big fan of Jane Eyre, so I was a fan of the somewhat subtle allusions to the classic tale.

It's a book full of secrets and nothing is quite as it seems.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me. All thoughts are my own.

I never quite knew what to expect when reading Sally Hepworth’s The Younger Wife. That’s the thing with suspense/thrillers … you can’t trust your eyes and ears to interpret events correctly. Are you really seeing things as they are or is the author pulling the wool over your eyes?

Hepworth’s The Younger Wife, which I come to after reading and loving The Good Sister, is one such book that conjures up questions of perception and interpretation. It is a domestic drama involving two adult daughters, Tully and Rachel; their mother, who is suffering from dementia; and their father Stephen, who is marrying Heather, a woman younger than his own kids. Each of the women in this novel is harboring secrets of her own, and these subplots come together to build a story around the main event - Stephen’s wedding to Heather and the subsequent tragedy that is eluded to in the prologue.

The Younger Wife is a murky sort of novel that wades through a variety of tense situations that can be interpreted in multiple ways. Readers who need all plot points spelled out for them may take issue with the way Hepworth chose to write The Younger Wife, leaving readers to make their own judgments about the novel’s story and characters. With that being said, it is difficult to discuss this novel without giving much away. It truly reads as a domestic drama, letting readers into the garden variety scandals and problems of this particular family, while hinting at something more sinister lurking underneath.

I personally did not enjoy The Younger Wife as much as I did The Good Sister, perhaps because I like my plots to have more direction and not leave me with more questions than answers by the end. While I enjoyed this novel, I almost did not see the point as I finished, beyond highlighting domestic troubles within one family. I wish that Hepworth would have chosen a point to more precisely drive home instead of leaving so much open to reader interpretation.

I listened to an audiobook production of The Younger Wife, narrated by Barrie Kreinik, Caroline Lee, Jessica Douglas-Henry, and Zoe Carides. I always appreciate it when an audiobook utilizes a full cast, as it makes for a more engrossing, immersive listening experience. The various narrators also helped me create distinct portraits of each character in my mind without confusing one for another. With that said, I did feel that Rachel’s narrator made her sound older than her years, which sometimes made it difficult for me to accurately picture her in my mind.

Unlikable characters and the story just didn't grab me as I had hoped it would.

I requested this one because of the narrators Barrie Kreinik; Caroline Lee; Jessica Douglas-Henry; Zoe Carides who all did a great job.

this one just feel a bit flat for me.

3.25 This story wanted to be a twisted family thriller but fell short with surprises. This story follows a family that are dealing with the mom suffering early onset dementia and the father divorcing her for a new younger wife. We also follow the daughters Tully who struggles with Kleptomania and Rachel who refused relationships after something happened to her in her younger days. We follow the family as they deal with there everyday lives as well as some surprises popping up making the girls question their father.

I thought this was an entertaining read but I was just waiting for something more to happen or another twist to occur which never came. The characters were entertaining especially Tully with her neurotic quirks and stealing kept me wondering what would happen next. I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator. I would like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.

I tried listening to the audiobook version before getting a paperback copy. I struggled to maintain attention during the audiobook, but I am not sure why. I enjoyed reading it more than listening to the story. I think it was partially due to the changing character perspectives making it hard to keep characters straight.

The book was a little slow moving for me, but it did have some psychological twists that made reading the book well worth it. It was well written. At the beginning of the book, the author gives us a teaser of what is to come at the upcoming wedding of Stephen and his younger wife Heather who is the same age as his daughters. First. Stephen needs to divorce his current wife who is living in a care facility due to her advanced stage dementia. Stephens daughters start to question their memories of a happy childhood and their mom makes some accusatory comments about their father. Even his younger wife, Heather begins to question if Stephen truly is the good doctor who does no harm as everyone else seems to believe.

This was my first book by Sally Hepworth. It was interesting in its own way. I would recommend for readers of realistic fiction.

An excellent audiobook. I loved the narrator's accent. I enjoyed the story and the sisters. This book reminds me of The Wife Between Us. This book was categorized as mystery thriller but it was mostly read like a women's fiction. This story started with a wedding and screams with blood stains. Then the story went on starting one year earlier, followed three main point of views: Heather, Tully, and Rachel. Tully and Rachel are sisters. Rachel has a secret which explains why she doesn't have a boyfriend. She bakes beautiful and expensive wedding cakes. Tully has an addiction she couldn't get rid of. Her husband lost all of their money in the stock market. Their kids gave Tully a challenge. Their mom has dementia and currently living in a nursing home. Their doctor dad Stephen recently announced he's engaged to a younger woman named Heather (younger than the sisters) who was hired to redesign Stephen's house. Heather has secrets of her own but she carries herself well and the sisters couldn't tell if she's marrying their dad as a gold digger. Rachel was going through her mom's things and found a name she didn't recognize. She then proceeded to investigate. In between, there's another view to speculate the crime at the wedding.

I didn't like the ending much. I prefer the bad person to face up to their crimes rather than an easy way out. The story however was not thrilling as thrillers normally goes but I do enjoy the women's fiction the story was leaning on. I do recommend this audiobook to everyone!

Thank you St. Martin's Press, Macmillan Audio, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
