The Darkest Place by Phillip Margolin pulled me in from the very beginning. I so love this series with the character of Robin Lockwood. This book is a great continuation and standalone story. Therese Plummer really does a fantastic job performing the book. She adds the right emotions to the story and helps me envision so many details. I will definitely be purchasing a copy of my own. Thank you #NetGalley and #Macmillan Audio for allowing me to review an early copy of the audiobook. It is fantastic! I loved the twists the author wrote and did not see the ending coming. Kudos to the author for the red herrings -- I fell for them.

Attorney Robin Lockwood is a formidable opponent in the courtroom and on the street. A Yale graduate and an MMA fighter, she’s not to be trifled with, but she finds herself on the side of a losing battle when she takes a pro bono case as a favor for a judge. The defendant is an execrable excuse for a uman who has committed unforgivable crimes. In the fallout, Robin returns home to her family in Elk Grove, looking for solace and support. Instead, she finds herself defending a surrogate who has changed her mind about giving up her baby and is accused of assaulting the would be parents. Robin believes the woman was under tremendous emotional strain and wants to be sure she gets help, not jail time. But then it’s revealed that the woman has been living under an assumed identity and has a warrant out for her arrest. Has Robin lost the ability to discern the guilty from the innocent? And is her promising career over just as it’s begun?
