I adored this book! It took me a little while to feel attuned to Vanessa (probably because I've never been married or divorced before, and have barely been alive as long as she was married for), but I found her to be super relatable once I got over that little hump. I loved the friendship that develops between her, Cree, and Janae at the beginning of the book, and its significance throughout. I also appreciated that it wasn't just Vanessa who was dealing with something - Michael also has deeply rooted issues that he has to face and come out on the other side of. Not to mention, once things started getting heated up with Michael, I could hardly put the book down. LaQuette also penned some very, very spicy scenes as well. Additionally, it's always refreshing to see an interracial romance that does not feature a white person as one of the lovers. Furthermore, the story was just romance - no racial trauma, no harmful or tired stereotypes (that I was able to identify, being a twenty-something-year-old black woman), and no strife because one person's family would never be able to accept the other due to race - just regular old romance <3. I hope I get to see more of the Savvy, Sexy, and Single club, though I have a feeling they'll soon become slightly less single!
It was a very witty, sexy romantic comedy for me. The main characters were super relatable to read about. The story fun. And the ending, definitely worth the wait.
This book is everything - if the amazing cover didn't hook you, you'll certainly be in the opening pages!
Vanessa Jared has just gotten out of a difficult relationship and is trying to rediscover who she is outside the box her ex had put her in for the past two decades. Michael, the sexy town sheriff, is desperately trying to save his baby sister from being conned by none other than Vanessa's ex. No matter how much Vanessa doesn't want to involve herself, she just can't stay away...
I generally don't read romances with older characters, but this cast was just as relatable in their struggles and entertaining as any other rom-com couple. There were tiny details that most readers probably missed if they aren't BIPOC, but their presence showed that Laquette knew what she was doing and added a personal touch to the story. The length of the book was perfect for this story.
Vanessa Jared's Got a Man covers the themes of healing and recovering from abuse, divorce, and navigating relationships (family, social). You don't need to relate to the characters' experiences to enjoy this; Laquette brings us a fresh and different perspective in this funny, steamy and utterly enjoyable read.
"Vanessa Jared's Got a Man" was not a read that I was expecting to ever get my hands on. As a younger adult, I tend to read books based on characters my own age. But to my surprise, I was able to still find a connection with Vanessa in different small ways. This plot is a lot different than the romance novels I have read and I very much enjoyed it.
LaQuette I am begging you to please write Adam and Janae's story!!!
I would have also liked to have seen a bit more of Michael and his sister.
I loved the premise of this book! It was so nice to have an older protagonist with adult problems (like divorce) vs some of the other romances I’ve read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc ebook in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was such a good read!! I absolutely loved our main characters Vanessa and Micheal!! And even the side characters are SO good! Everyone deserves a supportive, non-judgemental friend group! I’m hoping for another book where we get Adam and Janae’s story 👀👀👀 ((you hear me LaQuette??? i’m not above begging ma’am))!
Although this is a romance book, it definitely had some more serious topics such as domestic abuse and divorce. I personally think that if this was more of a women’s fiction book (and longer), these topics could’ve been explored more & I would’ve liked the book more!
3.5⭐️ rounded up. the romance was cute (a little steamy too helloooo), body positive, & older characters!!! i just wish we got more depth! Thank you NetGalley & St. Martin’s Press for this arc in exchange for a honest review :)
I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I almost stopped st the very beginning. I did not like Vanessa’s voice. I kept reading because I received this ARC in exchange for review. It did get better as I read. It was a mature book with some themes based on age and divorce I couldn’t relate to, but it would probably be enjoyed by those who are more in that category
"Vanessa Jared's Got a Man," by LaQuette was a funny and amazing read. I have read books by LaQuette previously and this one does not disappoint!!
This facet of romance for me was great and it pulled me in from the first page until the last. The meeting section and the living room section of the story made my laugh out loud. I was so tickled. Vanessa and Michael's chemistry was amazing and Michael was sooo much more than I expected. I will admit I pictured cutesy little romance scenes, but boy did Michael prove me wrong.
Vanessa facing her issues and Micheal facing his with the help their friends and Vanessa's Savvy, Sexy, and Single's Club friends was great. I loved this read and hated to see it end. I give this read 5 stars.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC in exchange for my unbaised and honest review. Can't wait to read about the other members of their frienship find the same fate.
I loved the fact that this was a book about two mature adults. It’s not very often that we get to read about 40 somethings in romance. Vanessa and Michael were a great couple. Michael is the perfect guy. Vanessa is 2 years out from a divorce from her controlling ex-husband and Michael is trying to save his sister from the same fate. It was so much fun watching these two fall in love, while trying to save his sister. Also I love love the cover. I received Netgally ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I haven’t read many romances with older characters, but I’m so happy that I’ve chosen this one.
The cover alone is an amazing representation and one of my favourite ever now.
I loved the interaction, the mix of characters and how some stereotypes were off the charts.
It felt like being in the front row of the most beautiful people that played their life in front of me.
I recommend it for a quick and great romance story
Vanessa Jared's Got a Man almost lost me in the very beginning. I did not enjoy Vanessa’s voice or the opening scene. The only reason I kept reading was because I received this ARC in exchange for review. I am glad I kept reading, because it did get better for me. It was a mature book with some theme I couldn’t relate to, but it was a decent read. I like the small-town atmosphere and the friendship groups to the heroine and the hero. It was a cute middle of the road romance novel, but I would read the next one if some of the friends get together.
What I enjoyed most about this story was that most of the characters were over the age of 21. I like reading romance novels that involve mature adults having a genuine attraction to each other, rational conflict resolution and of course steamy sex scenes.
Vanessa Jared is two years post divorce, rich after taking her cheating, abusive ex-husband through the ringer in court and yet in a state of unrest. Michael Park is the Sheriff in a small town looking to stop his sister from making a huge mistake by marrying the cheating, abusive ex-husband of Vanessa Jared. He asks for Vanessa's assistance in confronting his sister with the truth and they begin to fall for each other in the process.
At first, I was thinking why would she even care to help this woman? Let him be someone else's problem. Then I continued to read it and loved the result. I was pleasantly surprised by the interracial marriage and attractions. I even said out loud, "blonde hair, blue eyes?!?!? Your ex-husband is white???" The way the author included Korean terms of endearment and tid bits of Korean history to give cultural context to the character was great. Race was never the main focal point of the story and that was refreshing as well.
Overall, this was a solid debut romance novel and I will definitely read more from this author.
I really enjoyed this ARC from Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review.
Vanessa Jared's Got a Man is a cute and diverse romance, but unfortunately I never found myself very invested in it. Objectively, this is a well written novel, however, I don't think I am the right reader for it. Although the cover looks like current popular New Adult romance covers, the way this book is written, it's clearly stylized to appeal to an older audience. Continuing on that note, I didn't expect overcoming divorce to be a theme of this novel (from the synopsis I expected it as a plot point, but not a central theme). Because that isn't something I can relate to or really envision for myself, I didn't always feel super connected to the main character's struggles. Overall, I can recognize this book as a well developed one and can see it appealing to many readers, I am just not one of them.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC in exchange for my fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

"Vanessa Jared’s Got a Man” is a second book reading by LaQuette that I found enjoyable and very much predictable. Hate to admit, but the cover of this book was eye catching, and I wanted to see the outcome of a much older woman trying to find her life from devoting it to a controlling and cheating ex-husband. The multicultural aspect was nice as I do on occasion like to read interracial love stories.
Vanessa Jared has devoted her life to one man who has molded her into what he believed to be an acceptable wife. It took her 20-something years to find out that he wasn’t who he was…an open cheating husband. Once divorce, she is recommended to attend a divorce group to try to work through all of the hurt and at the same time, find the person who she was before she got married. While attending the group meeting, she meets two other divorcees and they start a Savvy, Sexy Singles Club and agree that they would meet again to celebrate and catch up after two years. Unfortunately, as she was leaving her home to meet up with her divas, she meets Michael, a sexy sheriff who needs her help to prevent his sister from marrying the scoundrel of a husband that Vanessa was once married to. The heat is started upon their meeting and does not die down as they have to work together to break up his sister’s relationship. The closer they get; the building attraction mounts until they can’t deny they want one another and until their emotions lead to love. Well-written and quick read. Looking forward to Adam and Janae story. Definitely recommend the read😍.
I loved seeing characters other than the traditional romance books on the markets: multicultural, 40-yr-old, divorcees. The characters and the issues they faced were such a refreshing change of pace—and they felt like people who could exist. Vanessa struggles trusting others and even herself after suffering 20 years of her ex’s emotional abuse—what a normal thing! Her new flame is too hot to be real though 🥵 I needed a bit less dialogue that didn’t have a purpose—while overall the pacing was good, I wish we spent some of the slower parts of the book learning more about the characters instead of repeating the same plot points and internal monologue to different people. Overall, I would love more from this author, especially as it feels like she set up great potential arcs for Cree and Jenae.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, St. Martin’s Press and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Quick read, predictable- yet entertaining and cute.
This book has officially become my favourite May read. Although at times it was predictable but nonetheless, I really liked and enjoy it!
Vanessa Jared's Got a Man was predictable, but oh what a good time it was reading it! I really enjoyed it. I loved the characters and the writing. The cover is what initially drew me to this book, but I am glad that I read it. It did not disappoint!
Really cute quick read. about love and freindship. The friends were entertaining and could carry their own stories.. I enjoyed this book and will look for more books by this author.
The cover for this book pulled me in immediately and overall I quite enjoyed this book! I really appreciated a romance with an older couple and dealing with themes of reconciling with love when you've been through a lot. The male lead is definitely added to my list of favorites. I do wish some details were given less easily, but I still really enjoyed the story. Thank you Netgalley!
