This was pretty engaging and both characters had great chemistry. Strong and witty writing. Quite the page turner.

Give this a couple of chapters to get going because it starts out seeming like it's going to be a total downer when it is in fact a very light romance with an excellent empowerment message.
Vanessa is struggling to get over her bitter divorce from an emotionally abusive and controlling man, even though it's been two years and she has the amazing support of two great friends she made while attending a divorcee support group. She's struggling to move on with her life when Michael visits her home to ask for her help in showing his sister that her fiancee, Vanessa's ex, is a con man.
The chemistry between them is obvious from the start and seeing them slowly realize that there's no escaping it and then giving in to it makes for great reading. Not to mention that LaQuette knows all the right notes to hit when getting to the really fun parts (wink, wink).
I really enjoyed not just the romance but the growth that Vanessa experienced over the course of putting herself out there and living her life. It shows a great message that you can keep going even after your think there's nothing left.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable read with interesting characters, a solid storyline, and an even better message.

Happy thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Griffin for the great read!

This book was great. I’m always looking for new romances! I didn’t know if I’d connect well because the characters are are 20 years older than me but they were so well written and I adored them.

absolutely PERFECT!!! i need more books by this author immediately, i can say sometimes the dialogue was a bit cringe but other than that i thought this book was good. it has good friendships, i really want books about cree and janae to be honest, especially janae. this book actually has a plotline and the romance was done so well.

This was a cute, quick read. I loved the family and friends as well as the sizzle between love interests.

I really wanted to love this read but I felt like the storyline deviated from the synopsis of the book. I personally am not a huge fan of the love/lust at first sight so I wasn't completely convinced of Vanessa and Michael's relationship. I wish we got some more development between the two because it just really felt like lust the entire time.

I really enjoyed the idea of the post-divorce older woman character this story promised. Vanessa was definitely all of that. However I just don't understand the point of the story. There seemed to be very little plot, a lot of talking about how attractive the other character was, a little spice/smut and the conflict with the ex-husband/sister was very short lived. Honestly didn't understand why Michael and Vanessa found each other so attractive because they hardly spent time together.

Overall I think the story was written well as in the author was great at describing people, places, and such. It did honestly have potential, but it fell flat for me due to lack of substantial plot.

Thank you st martins press and netgalley for allowing me to read this book. This book is so refreshing! I loved reading about Vanessa getting her groove back after Karl’s abuse. Michael is so amazing and the main characters friends add so much fun to the book! I loved how realistic I felt this book was in the romance aspect! This was a cute quick fun read! I really liked the depth into the characters. I can’t wait to read about Vanessa’s friends and Michaels friends getting together in future books!

I loved this romance!! The main characters are over 40 and that was refreshing to read. After a divorce Vanessa is a changed woman, she is all about herself and her friend group which is just the best! I loved how she helped the MMC and his sister in order not to be duped by her ex!

read of you like small town romance, and diverse characters!

4.0 out of 5 stars Vanessa's On Fire!
Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2022

Vanessa Jared finds a way to pick of the pieces of her shattered life after her divorce. Then, Sheriff Park enters her life, she's not quite ready for him or his request to help him talk some sense into his sister Cindy, who is now engaged to Vanessa's cheating ex-husband Karl. Vanessa is finally free of Karl and isn't interested in having him back in her life, even long distance.

She changes her mind when she's shown a photo and she sees her (lost/stolen) grandmother's engagement ring, residing on the left hand of Cindy's finger. Vanessa's on fire and ready to right the wrongs done to her and possibly Cindy and maybe even find love with Michael.

She just has to get out of her own way and open her heart and mind to receive his love. Will she?

When Vanessa has found herself 40 and divorced, she's determined to put herself on the market and get herself a man.

Then just when she's least expecting it a sheriff shows up, needing her help.

His sister is due to marry Vanessa's ex-husband, Michael is concerned that Vanessa's ex is not truthful with his sister and it will end badly. He's begging for help.

They are both immediately attracted to each other but keeping it on the back burner.

When the 2 of them head to the small town, Vanessa is only planning on staying one night, that turns to two and well eventually falls into bed with Michael.

I couldn't stop reading! I hope we have another book, with additional characters!

I just reviewed Vanessa Jared's Got a Man by LaQuette. #NetGalley

I enjoyed this story specifically with it centering 40+ year-olds figuring out who they are and how they want to move forward with their lives post divorce. Vanessa and Michael are a fun couple that I was cheering on the whole time.

Insert heavy sigh. I really didn’t want to finish this book but finally I am here.
Micheal & Vanessa. Small town. Lust at first sight ( kind of)
I started this book twice and took a long break after the second start. It wasn’t holding my attention. Some of the word choices made me cringe. The tone of “voice” of the MC didn’t seem to fit his character arc. I wasn’t a fan of this story. It dragged a little I was more interested in the thought the the sister would later hook up with Adam. ( I think that’s his name). There’s a lot happening in this book but not enough tat the same time, I did like the friendship story line. They do have nasty sex, the good kind. This book will be for if you like small town vibes and/ interracial romance.

It's been two years since Vanessa Jared got divorced and she wants nothing to do with her emotionally abusive ex-husband. That's why she immediately refuses Sheriff Michael Park when he asks her to help keep his younger sister away from Vanessa's ex-husband. But when she finds out that her ex had given her grandmother's ring to Michael's sister, Vanessa is motivated to help Michael and get her ring back in the process.

I read this book purely because of the gorgeous cover. I liked the whole city girl in a small-town vibe this book had going. I also found the hero, heroine, and supporting characters likable. I just wish that the romance was based on something more than insta-lust. The stakes are also pretty low, which is fine. I do enjoy low angst and low stakes romances. But when the stakes are low, the banter and chemistry have to be exceptionally good to keep my attention. And while I did like Michael and Vanessa together, I just didn't get that sizzling chemistry I was expecting.

So overall, I did like this book, but it just didn't leave a lasting impression on me.

Vanessa Jared's Got a Man by LaQuette is a fun, fresh romance that I really enjoyed. Both main characters, Vanessa Jared' and Sheriff Michael Park, are people who want to find love but have been burned before. Their romance blossoms fully in this sassy, sexy tale but not without some humorous mishaps along the way.. Definitely check out this read if you want a light-hearted love story with POC representation that proves you're never too young for a happy ending.

Vanessa Jared's Got A Man is all about one women's journey in self discovery and love. Vanessa Jared was stuck in an unhappy married which was broken up after it was discovered her husband was having an affair. Following the break up of her marriage, she attends a divorce counseling group where she meets two other divorcees' and together they form their own Savvy, Sexy, and Single Club. All three women are in their 40's and are tired of being in the box their former relationship put them in.

The Savvy, Sexy, and Single club have been friends for nearly two years. All three women are still single and have become very supportive of each other. I adored this friendship. They balance each other out and their banter is just so good . They aren't afraid to call each other out either. In the case of Vanessa, her friends begin pushing her towards a new man in her life.

The new man in Sherriff Michael Park and he has come to enlist Vanessa's help in saving his younger sister who has gotten involved with Vanessa's ex-husband. Michael can tell that his sister is in way over her head and that her now fiancé' is nothing but a con artist. And when he looks into him further, he discovers that he is not the widow is is claiming to be. In fact, his ex-wife is a full real women, and Michael cannot keep his eyes off her.

The chemistry between Vanessa and Michael is there right from the beginning. Both of them have not been in relationships for sometime and are not looking to get involved with anyone. Their chemistry is just too hot to ignore though and together they decide mixing business with pleasure might not be such a bad idea after all. They set a deadline that everything will be over once the truth regarding Vanessa's ex-husband is revealed. Except once they start, it becomes obvious that it won't be so easy to let go.

I loved the dynamic between Vanessa and Michael. They were so much fun together. Fun and sexy! There is also an element of diversity in their relationship as Vanessa is African American and Michael is Asian American. They really bring out a different side of each other and remind each other that they have the ability to have fun. Michael has always been one who needs to be in control and protect those around him. In comparison, Vanessa had been so emotionally abused by her ex that she is afraid to full give herself completely into someone else. This leads to a very strong push pull dynamic.

I really hope that Vanessa Jared's Got A Man will be continued in companion novels. The other two ladies in the Savvy, Sexy, and Single club need to get their happily ever after. Plus, Michael has a couple of sweet friends who might be able to help with that. And one of them seems to have a history with one of Vanessa's friends. Oh, this could get very interesting!

After being married for two decades to a man who didn’t respect her or treat her well Vanessa is now divorced and determined to live her life on her terms. As part of her journey, she decides to join a divorce group where she finds an incredible friendship with two other woman who can relate to her experience. All she wants to do is leave her ex in the past until Michael shows up at her door wanting her help to ensure his sister doesn’t follow in her footsteps.

Michael is a Sheriff who is determined to protect his sister from what he believes is a big mistake. He has a bad feeling about her fiancé and believes that the best way to uncover the truth is by meeting the woman who has firsthand experience. All he expected was for her to talk to his sister about the man she was marrying, and he certainly never expected to develop feelings for her.

Neither Vanessa nor Michael are looking for a relationship although their reasons are very different. The interactions between them are humorous, the romance is steamy, Vanessa and Michael are relatable characters and there is a great cast of second characters that add to the story.
