This book was one I didn’t want to stop reading. It was so well-written. And I just got sucked in. Plus I didn’t want to leave the characters in peril any longer than I had to.
I loved Elise. She has some hard news at the beginning of the book. And that really effects her through the whole thing. It’s something she constantly thought about. There was a certain part of the book where she decided that she would be okay with whatever was in store for her. And I loved that. We all need to figure out that we are going to be okay, even though things aren’t ever going to be perfect.
Harry is the kind of guy who wants to do whatever he can for his country. That is such a great thing. But he also has a little boy who needs a normal family life. I loved reading the parts with him and Sammy. He really was a great dad. I loved the way he cared for Elise, even when she didn’t want him to.
Sammy was so funny! I loved watching Elise trying to figure out what to do with him. And her family saying how like her he was.
The plot of this one is intense. It kept me interested and wondering just what was going to happen next. I loved this book! And I can’t wait for more.
This book is encompasses all things I love about romantic suspense. I love this genre and I love this author writing it! I hope she never stops.
Elise and Harry have a history so when their paths cross again, there are some layered emotions and misunderstandings. Elise is one tough lady with a lot on her heart. After a recent accident where she lost her M16 partner, Elise receives some devastating news. She is struggling when Harry reenters her life but that little rascal Sammy sure provides some over the top distractions with his penchant for getting in trouble.
The bad guy is SO bad. The danger is clear in it's progression and as a reader I felt it ramping up and closing in. It was such an exciting feeling and I loved it! Elise is the rock star of the show taking on the Scottish wilderness AND Sammy in one dramatic cat and mouse game. I was glued to the pages the last third of the book and so glad I had uninterrupted reading time so I could engage and invest in the best way possible. What a fun adventure this was! I can't wait for more!
Content: mild peril and violence. Some talk of killing and death. Kissing.

The villain in this is cold and calculating, the very worst sort. He added to the tension in the story.
Elise is the ultimate MI6 agent. She trained Harry. Harry was her college love and she rejected him due to her parents. This is their second chance. Elise travels with Harry to his next assignment so she can recuperate from an injury sustained on the job. She ends up minding his 8 year old Sammy who is a handful.
The suspense that followed swallowed me up and wouldn’t let go through the end of the story. I loved this story. The chemistry was perfect and realistic. The story was excellently written and was a pleasure to read.
Sammy was a light in this story and he brought a faith that could only be brought by a child.
I really enjoyed this book by Paige Edwards. I loved the balance between the romance and the suspense. I also liked that it was a second chance at love story. I really loved the characters and the way they interacted. I look forward to more in other books. I also loved how vulnerable the main characters needed to be with each other in order to be together. I thought this book was great and it would be one I would read again.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

AUDIENCE APPEAL: LOW
At only 27 years old, Elise is facing the probable loss of her chosen career as a field agent for M16 and the possibility she’s never really considered as a future mother. When her old partner, Harry, asks for her help, she agrees to help watch after his son at the castle she grew up in, which happens to be near his new assignment in Scotland. As friend and foe scheme against them, Elise and Harry will learn new things about themselves and each other.
While mostly fun to read, there were a few things about this book that I had a hard time with. Edwards’ transitions often felt choppy, like I had to make unnatural leaps to catch up to the next scene after breaking off from the previous one, and there were a few inconsistencies that made me pause and flip back to make sure I had remembered correctly. If these problems are ignored, the story also includes fun thriller aspects and cheesy romance.
Elise is Scottish, and Harry is English. The mature content rating is for mention of drugs, alcohol use, and illegal activity. The violence rating is for gun use, knife use, and murder.

What could be better than an action packed novel with a little romance thrown in? This book was a great read with great characters. I loved the chemistry between Harry and Elise and the fun flirting and banter between them. The suspense and intrigue in this book was also good. It keeps you invested from the very beginning.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and all opinions are my own.
This was my first book by Paige Edwards and I enjoyed it a lot! This story will keep you captivated from beginning to end with a second chance romance, espionage, and pulse pounding actions. I will likely be going back and reading the first books of this series-but I was able to completely enjoy this book as a standalone.
4 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
📚I received a review copy of this book from the publisher and this is my honest unbiased review. 📚
There is a lot of action and suspense in this novel. While a good read, it was slow paced and a little difficult to get into. I did like the characters and I appreciated how well they were written. Even in the beginning you could understand the plight of the characters and feel for them.
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
To be honest, at first I thought that this was going to be a historical fiction book, from the cover and Elise being a title Lady but that didn't deter from the book. This is the first book that I have read from Paige Edwards and was left impressed. There is so much action and suspense weaved into a great storyline that it's easy to get lost in its pages. Paige Edwards obviously spends a great amount of time researching for her books and it showed in the final product. I loved the sweet romance and ending.
“The two of you are highly intelligent individuals, but you’re both missing a few buttons on your remote control when it comes to long-term relationships.”
I love books with suspense and romance, so I knew this book would be right up my alley! I think I heard that Elise makes appearances in a couple other of Paige’s books, and while I didn’t feel like I needed to read those to fully enjoy this one, it sure made me want to read them! This book was really good! I loved Sammy’s mischievous nature, and Elise’s grit, determination, and her secret that she likes girly things. And my favorite quote in the whole book, was the last two lines!
In every way this book was exciting and satisfying. I was taken to a world to which I otherwise would have no exposure, MI6 and British Spies. From multiple points of view I shared in the thought processes of the characters, once incredibly evil. Elise and Harry are so well written that I can identify with their growth. Ultimately 'Facing the Enemy' is a wonderful story of families, once which I completely appreciate.

This book has so many great twists and turns with a sweet love story weaved in. There were many times I just couldn't put it down until I found out what happened next. Give this book a read if you are looking for a clean romantic suspense novel. You will not be disappointed

This book had all the elements of a fabulous romantic suspense novel and I especially enjoyed that it kept me turning page after page while delivering the swooniest romance!
If you like Regency fiction and contemporary suspense, this book is like a marriage of the two genres with modern day aristocracy and both a British and Scottish flair.
Lady Elise and Harry were fantastic characters. I loved the chemistry that just oozed off the pages between them. The flirting and little moments kept me smiling and cheering for them as a couple. I enjoyed the way it was a second chance romance for them. Sammy made a delightful secondary character and added such a fun element to the story as well as a critical emotional one.
The plot was intriguing; I felt like the author was relevant in what her villain was doing and true to how something that evil could be functioning in today's world.
I highly enjoyed this book and hope for more in what appears to be a new contemporary romantic suspense series.
Note, I purchased a paperback copy of this book from my local bookstore upon release.
Paige Edwards has done it again. If you enjoyed her other books you will live this one. It is fun to join Agent Taylor on her path to finding love and acceptance in herself.
This is the first book I have read from this author and was highly impressed by the character development and storyline. It kept me engaged with the characters and how things were going to turn out. I will be checking out more from this author.
This novel had a lot of good elements that gave it the potential to be a story that I really enjoyed, but in the end I just could not make it through. It was very slow paced for being a suspense novel as it was mostly character driven, while this is something that works for many readers, I prefer a faster paced read with my suspense. I still would recommend Facing The Enemy to anyone who likes romantic suspense with a lot of character development.
"This was the Harry she had known all those years ago. And he cared for her still."
Elise is a spy who was in a career altering accident a couple of years ago, and is now attempting to come back to the life she loved. When circumstances don't go the way she planned, she ends up caring for the son of a man she used to love, Harry, another spy. While she attempts to regain the ground she had lost due to the accident, she spends more time each day growing to care for Harry's son, while also realizing her feelings for Harry never changed. When an enemy from the past resurfaces close to Elise, she has to ask herself if the future she originally had planned still fits what she wants, and if she can risk opening her heart to love again.
I enjoyed this book. It was exciting, and it was so cool how the pace increased the closer Elise and her enemy became. I loved how Elise's care and perspective changed through the book. I also loved the theme of how some unforeseen and difficult circumstances could still bring about wonderful things, such as love and hope. I would recommend checking this one out for sure! It is my first by this author and I really liked it!
I am never disappointed by a Passive Edward’s book and this one is no different. I loved everything about this book. The characters, the mystery and suspense will keep you reading long into the night.
I was so excited when this book got to the top of my TBR pile! Paige Edwards' books are so suspenseful with just the right of romance that doesn't detract from the action and suspense. Lady Elise and Harry Benson are MI6 agents who dated about 10 years before, they reconnected when Elise was assigned to be Harry's trainer but getting involved was out of the question at that time. When the story opens Elise is still recuperating from a serious injury that threatens to end her MI6 career and Harry's been assigned undercover on a military base in Scotland. The problem is Harry's assignment starts immediately and he hasn't found someone to take care of his young son Sammy. Since he trusts Elise and her family's estate is near the base in Scotland he asks her to care for Sammy, and she accepts thinking it can't be that hard to watch an 8 year old boy. #famouslastwords
While Harry's trying to figure out how weapons are getting off of the base and on the black market, Elise is busy with Sammy whose never-ending curiosity and energy kept getting him into trouble. He reminded me of the Energizer Bunny--he just kept going and going, making me wish I could have some of whatever kept him going. Meanwhile there's danger ahead for Elise, she just doesn't know it yet. Someone she put in prison has escaped and has gone to great lengths to track her down to get revenge.
As Sammy would say this book is "cracking" (Scottish for excellent). I love multiple points of view--I like knowing what each character is thinking, and here we get Elise's, Harry's and the villian's POV. The author had me wondering who the leak on the base was and if it was tied to the other plotline. I was SO tempted to sneak a peak a few chapters ahead (yes, I'm one of those when I just can't take the suspense anymore), but I was strong and just kept reading.
I loved Elise. She's smart, strong both mentally and physically, but also loving and caring towards those she cares about. I pictured Harry as a swoony James Bond type like Pierce Brosnan, the kinds of man people might under estimate because of his good looks. Harry was smart and would do whatever it took to protect his country and those he loved. The villain was beyond evil and several times I wondered how the good guys were going to get the upper hand. Once I started reading I didn't want to put this book down
This is the first book in a new series, Roxbury Heirs, so if you haven't read any of Paige Edwards' other books this is a great place to start!! I can not wait to read the next books in the series and hope the wait until the next one isn't too long.

This modern day romance adventure had the suspense of the best television series combined with fun banter between characters and the romance I love to read. It was interesting to read a 'spy' novel, instead of watching it play out on a screen, and Paige Edwards' writing pulled me right into the action and through the mystery. It kept me guessing to the very end.
