I enjoyed the suspense in Facing the Enemy. The characters and their situations were relatable, even when the actual situations they were in I haven’t been in. I really enjoyed the climax of the book couldn’t put it down.
This is the first book I’ve read by Paige Edwards. I think references are made to events in prior books, but I believe they are part of a different series. This is a standalone and you can read it without reading those first.

Beautifully written. I typically stick to romcoms or historical, and neither of fit here. It had suspense and intrigue. But I also got my romance! I loved the depth of both characters and the growth we saw throughout the book. And even though it is unusual, I did like the perspective from the villian. I thought it brought a deeper meaning to the book seeing how he thought. This was well written and easy to fall into to! And that cover! Swoon!

Wow. This contemporary romantic suspense is the story of two MI6 agents who dated once upon a time. Now Harry is on assignment near Elise's family estate in Scotland where she is healing from an injury and wow, the sparks are flying! I am a huge fan of Paige's books and this book is a perfect example of why. It's got

Real, relatable characters
On the edge of your seat suspense (like seriously, my heart was pounding)
Super swoony romance with lots of chemistry

Paige lets the bread crumbs fall at the perfect pace to keep you guessing and wondering but also satisfied. Loved every scene between Harry and Elise. Watching two top international spies flirt with each other was immensely entertaining!

Though there are cameos and references to characters from her other series, this is the first book in a new series and the perfect time to try Paige's books if you haven't already. This is a five star read and lived up to every one of my expectations. I will read anything and everything that Paige writes!

I received a complimentary copy of the book but a positive review was not required.

Paige Edwards has written another excellent book that is a must-read if you enjoy contemporary romance books. The main characters, Lady Elise Henderson and Captain Harry Benson were introduced in previous books and I was thrilled to read their story and get to know them better. My interest was grabbed right away when the book began and Harry was finishing up an M16 mission. From there Lady Elises's story was started as she was completing a battery of tests in order to return to full duty at M16 after recovering from an accident. Soon their stories intertwine as they become reacquainted and then Harry's son Sammy joins the story. The writing was well done and I felt as I was exploring the countryside and embroiled in the story. There was the perfect amount of mystery and romance to keep me turning the pages. I couldn't read fast enough and yet I wanted to slow down so the book wouldn't end.

Paige Edwards' "Facing the Enemy" is a fast-paced novel featuring spies, a cold and calculating villain, and plenty of high-tech gadgetry that would impress James Bond. Determined heroine Elise Taylor and fellow MI6 agent Harry Benson fight for their future together, quite literally much of the time. Harry's delightful son adds some needed levity to a frequently intense read.

The villain is highly intelligent and resourceful, whose minions are disposable. This egomaniac has a delusion that drives him, a motivation I found most curious. I'm not a criminal genius, after all.

Edwards' writing is crisp, and this novel is clean. Elise and Harry's banter is clever and witty. Secondary characters are also well-drawn. This book is the first installment of a new series. Edwards is a new author for me, and some characters from previous books make appearances. That did not affect my understanding here. Although my reading diet consists of more historical works than contemporary, I look forward to Elise's siblings' stories.

Thanks to NetGalley and Covenant Communications for an ARC of this gripping novel.

4.5/5 stars

Action, suspense, romance, and a darling, mischievous eight year old combine to produce one enjoyable, rollercoaster ride of a story. Paige Edwards is so good at writing a convincing sweet romance with a James Bond like MI6 plot. From the first page, I was hooked and had a hard time putting it down. There’s also a subtle element of faith woven into the story.

Harry, the handsome, strong, talented MI6 agent is on a mission. Someone has been illegally sending British arms to supply a war in a foreign country. He’s been sent to the Scottish Highlands to infiltrate a military base to discover the traitors. His assignment brings him once again into contact with the one woman he’s loved since college. Her wealthy family’s objection to him years ago lead him on a different path that resulted in a sweet but precocious eight year old son Sammy and divorce. When his parents no longer can care for his son, he asks the one woman he thought would never say yes to mind him for him.

Elise is the daughter of wealthy aristocrats, but she’s also a take no prisoners, tough as nails MI6 agent. A horrible accident which killed her partner left her injured with the possibility of permanent injury and the loss of her job. Seeing Harry again awakens her love for him that has never quite gone away, but with her job and health in jeopardy, she doesn’t think she can commit to marriage or family. She does agree to mind his son at her family’s Scottish estate. After all, can’t the servants look after him? How much trouble could a little boy be? However, when the man who killed her partner comes after her with a vengeance, will she be able to protect those she’s come to care about most?

Loved this action packed romantic suspense! Harry and Elise’s chemistry was amazing. They had those Mr. and Mrs. Smith moments where you weren’t sure if they were going to attack each other or kiss each other. (Just to keep each other on their toes.) Sammy was a sweet little boy who as most moms of boys know just can’t help but get into trouble at that age. He often slips away from his minders and Elise is usually the one to have to track him down. The villain is absolutely evil and has not just one but several evil schemes up his sleeve. When he discovers Elise’s whereabouts, it’s a cat and mouse chase through the Scottish wilderness.

Highly recommend! Those who enjoy clean romantic suspense, Christian romance, or Christian suspense/mystery will definitely enjoy this novel. While this novel builds on the author’s previous books, it definitely can be read as a standalone. Looking forward to more books in the series! I received an advanced copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

Content: some violence, only passionate kissing, infertility issues, talk of murder and death.

The anticipation when Paige Edwards announces a new book is intense! I am a huge fan of her writing and characters so I love when I can finally get my hands on her book and read it. I always come away very satisfied with the whole book. Facing the Enemy is such a fantastic book! I loved the instant edge of your seat suspense. Nothing was held back in this one.

I was completely invested in these characters. They've been background characters in a previous series but start the author's new series, Heirs of Roxbury, out with a bang. If you haven't read her previous books, no worries, this is written in such a way that you'll be able to follow along. A few of the characters from her previous books have some cameos but she gives you the info you need to know about them that doesn't detract from this book's story.

Lady Elise and Harry are MI6 agents. They've known each other for years and have a bit of a history together. They've been brought back together but not for a case. Elise is still healing from an injury and Harry is heading out into the field. They end up realizing they're heading the same direction and can help each other out. Harry has a young son he needs help with some childcare for and Elise seems to be the perfect person. She'll take him to her family estate and have some servants help out. Easy Peasy. Hahaha! Oh Sammy! He is a precocious little one who keeps everyone on their toes. He had me laughing, cringing, shaking my head, smiling and much more throughout the book. Such a fun addition to this story. And exactly what Elise needs in her life.

There's danger lurking around every corner here and Harry and Elise need to keep their heads so they can stay one step ahead. But of course it doesn't quite happen that way. This story had a lot of fun cat and mouse moments that kept me turning the pages quickly. And the suspense. Seriously, I was holding my breath several times. I had to remind myself to breath. Haha! My heart was definitely pounding. And I kept making guesses as to how it would all work out. Some I guessed and others were great surprises.

To balance out the suspense, Mrs. Edwards does a great job of adding in humor, witty banter (especially between our two main characters), and lots of great chemistry. Sweet and Swoony romance at its finest between these two.

Get ready to be swept away to the wilds of Scotland for a grand adventure. And be warned...you'll want to visit there after reading this book. I feel that way after every book I've read by this author.

Content: Clean. There is plenty of suspense and peril throughout the book but the author wrote it in such a way that I felt was clean and not overly graphic. There is nothing further than kisses. No explicit scenes or content. Language was clean as well.

I received a copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

If you want romantic suspense, Facing the Enemy is just the ticket for you! Edwards immediately plunges you into Elise and Harry’s world. From the beginning, the action takes off and it keeps a steady pace throughout the book. I loved seeing characters from her previous books, that was a definite bonus for me. The interactions between Elise and Harry were delightful. There was an internal struggle going on with Elise and I think a lot of women can sympathize and relate to that. The suspense kept me on edge throughout the book and I found myself begging my body to stay up to read just a little bit more. Full of romance, suspense, action, and love, Facing the Enemy hits all of the marks of a great novel! I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was a great romantic suspense. I enjoyed Harry and Elise's story. They're second chance at love seemed doomed from the start. I enjoyed the push and pull between these two. Sammy was a fun mischievous addition to the story. There were times I felt it slowed down a little for me, but the last 1/3 of the book really pulled me in. I enjoyed the suspense and MI6 aspect of this book.

I like having the full story and after starting the book I felt like I was missing background information, especially in regard to the secondary characters. I discovered several of the characters mentioned were from her previous series. I had read 2 of the 3 books and the one I hadn't read gave some of the background for Elise, so I read that before coming back and finishing this book. Most may not feel that was necessary, but for me I wanted all the information and it made this book more enjoyable for me.

Facing the Enemy
Roxbury Heirs #1
By Paige Edwards

Years ago, Elise Henderson broke up with Harry Benson when her parents objected to him. No one expected the two of them to be partnered by MI6, but two years ago, Elise's life changed when an enemy attacked and she was left with a shattered body. With mere weeks left to fully regain what she has lost, Elise receives devastating news that has her returning to her childhood home. But she's not returning alone.

Harry never expected to have a second chance to win Elise's heart, but his newest assignment with MI6 leaves him in need of a childminder for his young son. Elise offers a temporary solution by offering her father's household staff until something more permanent can be arranged. But Sammy proves more than the staff can handle, forcing Elise to take a very active role in Sammy's life. As Sammy works his way into her life and her heart, Elise knows she will be heartbroken when she has to say goodbye to both Sammy and Harry.

The enemy that destroyed her life has been searching for Elise, and he won't be satisfied until he breaks her further and then takes his revenge.

Facing the Enemy is a contemporary piece of romance and suspense that will find you rooting for Elise and Harry while at the same time breaking your own heart over Elise's secret pain. As danger moves closer, you will be drawn further into the book, unable to put it down.

This is the first book in the Roxbury Heirs series, and Paige Edwards does a masterful job of creating a world that I can't wait to visit again. The characters are engaging and, for the most part, likable. But the enemy, that was, in the past, someone of power and influence, is truly an evil man who can give one the shivers when he takes center stage. If you are looking for a new and exciting read this is the book you want to move to your TBR list. You won't be sorry and you will want to reread it again.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Intrigue, suspense, romance, what else do you need. Facing the enemy has it all and more. We meet Elise while she is recovering from a serious injury, she received on the job. Harry was a short term boyfriend at university and they had trained together. Now their paths will cross again, for better or for worse. I was drawn in from the beginning and held captive until the end. The story has so many twists and turns, the writing was well done and detailed in all things espionage. The characters were interesting and credible, as they dealt with the problems that arose. I enjoyed the sweet romance between the main characters, it was fun and flirty. Sammy an eight year old boy, added some mischief also. I highly recommend this first book in a series, that will be on the top of my TBR list. I can’t wait to see who’s story will be next. This is an intense, espionage story with mentions of combat type injuries, guns and knives.

Lady Elise Henderson from Scotland goes by the name Elise Taylor when in London. She’s a M16 operative who was recently injured in a car accident that killed her partner. Agent Harry Benson is also a M16 operative. He met Elise in college and the two were a couple before Elise called off the relationship. Now Harry has a son, Sammy from his prior marriage. When Harry needs someone to help out with Sammy, Elise agrees to take on the task. Harry and Elise soon run into a past nemesis that wants Elise dead. Will they be able to stop him?
This is the first book I have read by this author. I enjoyed the plot and the character romance. I felt like the story jumped around a lot and didn’t flow great. It was ok though.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was an ok read, very spy thriller, action, adventure, romance but with a religious angle. I got a bit lost and felt like I had missed something often while reading. It skipped around a bit and was hard to follow. Sammy, the 8 year old was my favorite character.

Romantic suspense is such a fun genre, and Paige Edwards does an amazing job. She created great chemistry between our two main characters. The villain of the story is creepy and reminds me of a Bond or Mission Impossible villain- over the top and dramatic. It adds to the intensity of the story because you never quite know what he'll do next. This can be read as a stand-alone, but I did feel like I was missing some information as to why Elise and Gilmont have such a history. (It's featured in a book from another series.) That said, I was able to read between the lines and understood well enough. Great, quick read when you want some thrill and suspense in your book!

This is a bit outside my wheelhouse of typical reading material. I tend to stick with the historical fiction genre, so this was a bit of a change. I actually found myself so caught up in the relationship of Elise and Harry, I would completely forget there was a spy and traitor to sniff out. The action really got going at about the 60% mark, it definitely could have been more balanced in that regard. Important conversations could have happened between the leads before the last three pages. I don't really get the reticence of Elise for just not addressing her concerns. It's pretty hard to have a decent relationship without honesty after all. Overall, I'd put this in the 3.5 star range. I understand this is a series about this family, the Roxbury's and I'd give the second book a chance though I had a few grievances with this book. I received an ARC from the publisher and NG for review.

Paige Edwards delighted me once again with her fun characters. Connected to her Pressley-Coombs series this book is the start of her Roxbury Heirs series taking place in Scotland. The more I read her books the more I want to visit Scotland myself. If you want to go on adventures by skirting the edge of death and enjoy a great romance, then this is the book for you. You can just read this book alone, but I recommend you start with her first book Catherine’s Intrigue, because you come across those characters in this book.

I have not read this author before and found that I enjoyed her writing style. The action in the book was well written and fast moving. The characters were well fleshed out and relatable. I do not enjoy books with "spunky" mischievous children and this one had Sammy who was always running off and getting into things. The book started off with a bang and then slowed a bit as a romance was rekindled between the main characters. I felt as if there was a book before this one as the bad guy's misdeeds and motivations were not well defined. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher through Netgalley. All views expressed are my honest opinion of this book.
