A worthy addition to the Rebel Girls series, this book introduces you to inspiring women. I recommend it for adults as well.
Love the Rebel Girls book series! This new one doesn't disappoint! I use these books as the starting point for our Women Studies course. We have learned about a lot of amazing women using these books! Highly recommend!!
How I wish this book existed when I was younger. I devoured this book and was inspired by the women that dared to live out their dreams ,their aspirations and their thoughts out loud. I highly recommend this book to every parent, aunt, sister and grandmother for truly this book belongs on girl's shelves everywhere. I love it
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher . All opinions expressed are entirely my own
If there was one series that I wished existed when I was younger it would be the Rebel Girls series. When I was little, we had encyclopedias and there were a lot of male role models but hardly any female ones talked about. Our world was mainly male-dominated and also it was all about businessmen rather than entrepreneurs but with the rise of the internet and the digital world and also feminism becoming a popular term, there are plenty of great female role models for girls today in all areas. Myself, my heroes were Jacqueline Wilson, Nancy Pearl, Nancy Wake, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Audrey Hepburn, and Nellie Bly, women who all started their journeys in their 20's + and now we have children as young as 5-10 years old becoming strong role models to children all around the world. It is so inspiring and powerful to read. Rebel Girls Mean Business spotlights 25 female entrepreneurs and investors in several categories and the best thing is the Rebel Girls books are all about diversity and inclusivity so there are all races and genders etc. Nobody misses out - only the Men haha as this is all about having strong female role models. The Rebel Girls series are perfect for girls aged between 9 to 15 years old and if you have a girl under the age of 9 in your family, the stories can be used as bedtime read-aloud as each one is only a page long, the perfect size for just before bed.
This is a very inspiring book indeed. Not just for little girls but for us big girls also. It is amazing to read how, even with all the odds againts them when starting a bussines or choosing a dream job, these women never gave up and they pushed thru the hard times and came out as winners in the end.
So inspiring and an amazing addition to anyones home library. I recommend this book to every woman on this planet Earth.
This series returns with another winning entry. Twenty-five women are profiled who have had success launching new products, building their own businesses, and investing. It’s truly inspiring.
Each successful woman gets her own two-page spread. On one side of the page you’ll find a colorful illustration of the successful person and a quote. Here’s a sample from engineer and entrepreneur. Kathy Hannun. She’s the co-founder of Dandelion Energy, the largest geothermal heating and cooling company in the U.S.
“You practice. you persist, you gain skills, and you become better.”
Great advice for sure. On the opposite side of the page is the individual’s amazing story of success. A perfect dose of motivation for young girls who are beginning to have their own dream of being a positive force in the world.
Most names you won’t recognize, but after reading their story you’ll never forget them. There’s Julie Chen who launched her own eco-friendly paper company and when the pandemic hit her sales of toilet paper quadrupled. Or how about Maria Theresa Kumar, co-founder of a nonprofit organization that helps get Latinx people excited about voting and making change. My favorite though is Melanie Perkins who despite setbacks has become the leader of the world’s most valuable company with a female founder, CANVA.
Another plus is the chance to hear more by getting the Rebel Girls app. There are numerous links to extras featured there.
After the featured portrayals readers have a chance to write their own story and draw a portrait. No problem if you don’t know anything about the business world or building your own business as each are detailed and explored in the closing pages.
An important resource for any girl.
Another great addition to the Rebel Girls books. Short one page bios are engaging and interesting. Plenty of encouragement to go for your dreams and overcome obstacles.
I really enjoyed reading this installment of Rebel Girls. I liked the selection of female entrepreneurs and investors that it included. Every story was really inspiring.
Also the illustrations in these books are always really beautiful.
Love reading these books with my daughter and teaching her about powerful women, this time with different vocations and start up dreams!
I’ve run my own business from home for nearly two decades, and during that time I’ve answered the door hundreds of times to greet little neighborhood hustlers trying to make a buck by selling anything from their dog-walking services to cups of lemonade. I don’t want random kids walking my dogs, and I sure as heck don’t need any lemonade. But do I pull out my wallet 99% of the time? You better believe it.
Even though the interruptions can be ill-timed and annoying, I always appreciate children who have an entrepreneurial spirit. I also have admired the Rebel Girls book series since it exploded on Kickstarter back in 2016, so of course I was eager to check out their latest publication focused on women building and investing in business.
Rebel Girls Awesome Entrepreneurs* includes mini biographies and colorful portraits of 25 females who’ve shattered corporate glass ceilings. Founders of companies like Canva, Stitch Fix, and Bumble are included as well as CEOs of brands such as TaskRabbit and Nextdoor. The end of the book has bonus materials too: a glossary of business words and a step-by-step guide for launching your own project.
I haven’t had the opportunity to read any of the bios to kids yet, so I don’t know how well the content is absorbed by the target demo of the 7-12 crowd. I just know I really WANT them to absorb it. Who needs princesses and superheroes when there are so many more inspiring and accessible role models out there?
My thanks to the publisher for the advance copy to review via NetGalley. Rebel Girls Awesome Entrepreneurs is slated for publication May 10, 2022. (*As of the date of this review, 4/26/22, Goodreads lists the book with an alternate title: Rebel Girls Mean Business.)
My 3yo daughter and I absolutely love the Rebel Girls Series. Though she's a bit young to understand much of what we read, she absolutely loves seeing women of all ages, colours, sizes being bad@$$!! We very much amp up Girl Power in our house!! I was absolutely delighted to be selected to read the Awesome Entrepreneurs edition, and will absolutely buy it when available to add a hardcopy to our collection. The collection of narratives and the artwork did not disappoint, as per usual! Thank you to NetGalley and Rebel Girls for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book reinforces the important truth that young women can start and run businesses that they believe in. By showcasing these particular women, it is clear that neither color, religion, nor country of birth need stop a truly motivated person. Many of these icons are activists as well and are known to many, others are simply well-known in their own field. Excellent book that is designed to make all think outside the box and act of belief in their opportunity to enact change. The colorful illustrations continue to be excellent!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book from Rebel Girls via NetGalley. Thank you!
Rebel Girls series never ever disappoints and this book is no exception. Short succinct narratives about entrepreneurs make in an engaging read for children. Highly recommended!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange of my honest review. I'm big fan of Rebel Girls; It started with reading Good night Stories for rebel girls and haven't stopped reading rebel girls ever since. In this instalment, I get to know upcoming entrepreneurs. With Colourful & beautiful illustration, this book inspires the young girls is that sky is never the limit. You can do anything that you put your mind too. I can't wait to buy this for my sister's birthday.
Another hit from the Rebel Girl series! I loved how Rebel Girls Awesome Entrepreneurs featured lesser known women and girls who I might not have heard of otherwise if it weren’t for this book.
As always super inspiring and empowering. The illustrations are colourful and gorgeous. I will be buying copies for my nieces when it comes out!
My only recommendation would be to include the pronunciation for the entrepreneurs names as I was not sure how to say them properly and if you do it for one it should be done for all of them.
Thank you to NetGalley and Rebel Girls for this advanced copy!
Although this book is designed for kids it made a lovely bedtime stories for me too. The bunch of cool inspiring real life stories about women who achieved great professional results by following their dreams, passion and strategy. The book is easy to read and comprehend.
This is another installment of admirable girls and women to inspire the next generation. This installment focuses on entrepreneurs regardless of whether this was their initial endeavor or not. To see a variety of women from all over the world contained in these pages for young readers is inspiring and motivational. To reminds young readers to not give up and this is wonderful.
"There's no cookie-cutter entrepreneur", a quote from young entrepreneur, Mikaila Ulmer, perfectly sums up the inspiring stories told in this new Rebel Girls entry. As always, this book is full of short descriptions of powerful women and beautiful illustrations. These ladies worked hard to start their own businesses, and reading their stories will hopefully inspire a new generation of girls to do the same. The step by step guide at the end is a great resource to help kids brainstorm business ideas. Who knows what they'll come up with?
I loved the visuals and information in this book. It included beautiful illustrations and a. Wide variety of people.
My daughter absolutely loves these books. She has the full series and eagerly awaits the publication of a new one. Awesome Entrepreneurs is no exception. The stories are vibrant and engaging, simplified enough to be easily understandable without being babyish. Proper role models for modern girls. The Rebel Girl series never disappoints.
