I've read a few books from cyclists about their travels and really enjoyed them. This book though just didn't draw me in. I only made it to around 10% and have no desire to continue. Hopefully others will connect with this memoir more.

Travels with a Brompton; In the Cevennes & Other Regions By Sue Birley This book began with great promise. I have done long distance biking and the fact that Ms. Birley and her husband were on Bromptons made it clear this was not going to be a book about epic rides with multiple near-death adventures. She also early in the book mentions Edward Enfield, who I have read all his books about cycling in Europe. In his case the camping is a treat for any day he could pull out his credit card. And like Ms. Birley he does enjoy his meals and drink. But I felt this book was much too much repetitive. It does not provide the kind of interesting detail from Mr. Enfield or even the commentators on The Tour de France. I would guess this book may appeal to someone who is actually planning a trip by bike in France and wants to know where to stay and where to eat or not to eat. So it read too much like a guide book and not enough of interesting places to see and why.
