A new take on classic a Disney Fairytale but told from the viewpoint of the prince. I love the Little Mermaid and was happy that this book stayed true to that story but added so much more of Eric’s story. In this book Prince Eric is cursed and will die unless he kisses his one true love. He sets off to break the curse and marry before he becomes Kind. A really good story, with a lot of fantasy that keeps your on your toes.

The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie, and I was excited to see the story from Eric's perspective. I'm so happy to say that I absolutely adored Linsey's take on the story. She added so much to the story and to Eric's backstory but, for the most part, did not change the story beats from the original. I enjoyed seeing the events from the movie, especially the scenes when Ariel was doing something that Eric didn't notice, like at their first dinner together with Ariel getting Sebastian out of Grimsby's food.

One of the aspects I loved the most was the addition of Eric's curse and how that plays into his story as a whole. I love what Linsey did with his curse and how that went into his character. Also, I love the dynamic between him, Grimsby, Carlotta, and his friends introduced in the book.

My other favorite part of this book is the relationship between Ariel and Eric. I'm glad we got to have more of them spending time together and their relationship. It was wonderful seeing even more of Ariel's character, who will always be a favorite of mine. I could not help but sing the music that went along with the scenes.

I highly recommend this book to fans of the original story. It was such a great book! I already preordered my own copy of the book.

I am an absolute sucker for a retelling, and especially for ones set in a universe I already love. I hope that I get to read one about all of the Disney Princes.

*semi spoilers* although you read about it in the first 25 pages.

Prince Eric being cursed was such a unique take on the story, and it really helps to take the Little Mermaid and give it so much more detail and perspective.

Where do I begin with this review. First off the Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney Princess. I was really excited when I saw this book and audiobook I knew I had to request them. This was a really fun one. The author did a wonderful job interweaving her story with the movie (even dialog was matching) so she definitely did her homework. I really liked the back story that she created for Prince Eric. It gave him a lot more depth in my opinion. I also love the fact that one of the characters in here shares my last name. That was a pretty fun surprise. I absolutely loved this book. It was really fast paced, but also kept you guessing what was going to happen. This is a must read for any Disney or Little Mermaid fan!

This is definitely not my usual genre, but I was really excited to get this book to use for a reading challenge.

Prince of Song & Sea tells the story of The Little Mermaid from the Prince’s point of view. Rather than a fluffy tale under the sea, we meet Prince Eric’s friends and family on land and at sea, and learn about a curse cast upon him by a sea witch, which says he will die if he kisses anyone other than his true love. We witness him being rescued by a mute red-haired girl and little knowledge of local customs, and we learn that his mother has been missing for two years.

It was actually fascinating to learn his side of the story, while already knowing Ariel’s version. New characters are added, some of mysterious gender, and Eric’s curse adds a whole new dimension to the bargain Ariel made with Ursula in The Little Mermaid. Pirates and battles give the book a significantly darker feel than singing and dancing sea creatures.

This should be an interesting read for teens who grew up with Disney’s Little Mermaid!

I love retellings! This was a fun first book to the Disney Princes series. It looks at the events of Ariel and Eric’s meeting from Eric’s point of view. There’s some set up before Ariel comes into the picture and I think it worked! Students may be a little impatient with the setup but it pays off when the pieces start to fit with the story we are all familiar with. I would definitely recommend this to teens who are fans of retellings.

A new take on classic Disney Fairytales but told from the perspective of the princes? I CAN’T WAIT. The story is told from Prince Eric’s POV. His mother, Queen of Vellona went missing two years ago but before she did she reminded him of the curse that has plagued him his entire life: that if he kisses anyone other than his true love they would die. Eric has closed himself from everyone yet the pressure to find a bride to help secure his kingdom from other kingdom’s attacks is rising. Eric dreams about marrying for true love. When he is rescued after falling into the sea the only thing he can remember is a beautiful voice, and he’s been searching for that voice ever since, believing that the girl who saved him is his true love. When Eric finds an old letter from his mother telling him that he has to find his true love, someone who would have a voice of pure heart or he would have to kill the witch who cursed him. Eric then stumbles upon a beautiful girl who he thinks might be his true love until he finds out she doesn’t have a voice, making it impossible for her to be his true love..., yet the more time he spends with her the more he begins to fall in love. All the while Eric is also dealing with trying to hunt down the witch who cursed him and the ghost of his mother who he has been seeing. Eric will have to decide what he should do: follow his heart or let the curse rule him.... and when a woman with the voice he believes to be his rescuer claims to be his savior... he’ll have to decide will he marry her or go after the girl who has stolen his heart. True love was never easy, but choosing to love someone is something Eric will have to open himself up to. This was such a fun take on the classic story and i honestly can’t wait for more books in this series and to see the other princes stories. I love the new spin and details on the classic Little Mermaid Story and it just gave Eric so much character. Definitely recommend this for fans of the classic story!

This review is based on an ARC.

I was presently surprised by this retelling, is it a retelling if it is from a different perspective? I was impressed with the creative liberties taken and wanted to know more. I am eager to read another in this series theme of retellings.

Thank you so much for an advanced copy of Prince of Song and Sea! I loved this book!

Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: YA Fantasy
Pub Date: October 4, 2022

I was so excited for this book, and I loved it! Eric's point of view was perfect written, and I loved how it was interwoven throughout the story. There were beautiful quotes and Ariel and Eric in the story as well, and they just made me swoon! Disney publishing really knocked it out of the park with this one! This was such a wonderful expansion of their story.

My only complaint is that some of the more serious topics could have been handled a bit more maturely. Otherwise, this was great!

This novel made me like Prince Eric a lot more then I originally did. It fleshed out his character arc in a satisfying way and it gave Ariel and Eric a natural relationship considering they in the book got married three years later. I really enjoyed the plot line and it was a easy read. I can't wait to see what else is in store for the other Disney Princes.

So much better than twisted tales! I really enjoyed this Disney's Little Mermaid retelling from Prince Eric's POV. He was given super interesting character motivations, and I enjoyed seeing his part of the story play out.

I wouldn't have minded seeing the story deviate from the movie a bit more, given that the romance progresses faster than fast, but I suppose that can't be helped in some situations.

If you're a fan of princes, curses, ghosts, and royaltycore, this would be the story for you!

First off, the cover is absolutely beautiful and is one of the reasons that I wanted to read Prince of Song and Sea! Finn and Aladdin are my favorite Disney princes but Eric is right up there with him and I enjoyed reading about his story from before he met Ariel. This was a quick read and I will be purchasing a copy for my library.

When I realized that this book retold the Little Mermaid from Prince Eric's perspective, I did get a little worried that it would end up being extremely cringy. Thankfully, this book avoided that almost entirely and thus far surpassed my expectations for it which elevated my experience. That's not to say that I found this ground breaking literature. At the end of the day, it is still a "Disney" story with all of the tropes and clichés that typically accompany those stories.
I did enjoy the twist on the story that added complexity to the underlying narrative and made Eric more than just a pretty face. It's not exceptional but it is enjoyable.

What a great book! When I first saw this, I was nervous to read this or how I would grow to love it! We never read stories from the Disney Princes' point of view and this time, we actually did! Prince Eric is from my favorite Disney movie of all time. Reading a book from his point of view was absolutely amazing! We have read stories from Disney Princess point of view, villians points of view and now a Princes point of view! If you are a Disney fan, this book is for you!!!

It took awhile to get into the book but it did pick up around the halfway point. The references to the original movie were fun and exciting to spot. I liked the characters and being able to see things from Eric’s point of view! Overall it was a fun read with a throwback feel.

Thank you to NetGalley and Disney Publishing Worldwide for providing a copy of this eARC for review.

I found the concept interesting, as retellings are becoming more and more popular. I was pleased with the point of view of the Prince (as opposed to Princess or Villain). The book was written consistently in POV. It was engaging and very quick to get into. The novel was also consistent enough to the Disney movie that it wasn't contrary to what we already know or have seen. I enjoyed the twists added to this storyline and really enjoyed seeing Ariel through the eyes of other characters in the world. Grimsby was a delight, and I felt that Ursula was a more complex character than portrayed in other works. I also very much appreciated that Eric has interests and friends outside his princely duties. It was hinted at in other works, but this novel really rounded out his character.

I thoroughly recommend this novel to any fans of retellings, and especially those who have a special place in their hearts for The Little Mermaid.

Definitely skews a bit on the younger YA side. I enjoyed The Little Mermaid from Eric's perspective, but there was a moment where I asked myself "is this really necessary"? Considering we already know how the story ends? Either way, will purchase for the cover alone, and it's sure to be a hit with MG/YA fans of The Little Mermaid.

Overall this book was good. I did enjoy seeing Eric’s point of view within this story, but I wish I got more of his story and not following so closely to the movie. The areas based on Eric’s life and backstory felt rushed and incomplete at times that I craved more. I wanted to know more about him and his friends and less on how he met Ariel, but to get his point of view on the classic Ariel story then It does a good job and explains a lot on why he acts that way in the movie.

This was the BEST twisted fairytale I've ever read! I loved reading from Eric's POV, and I love the additional characters and their sub-stories. I can't say enough about this book - YOU MUST READ IT!

A retelling of Disney's A Little Mermaid? From Eric's point of view? Sounds awesome! Unfortunately, this particular version wasn't for me.

This retelling added a little back-story to Eric and gives some life to an otherwise flat character. The curse was fine, but a little hard to follow. I was really excited for this book, and the series as a concept, but ended up pretty disappointed in the execution.

More the half of the book was a direct retelling word-for-word of movie dialogue and descriptions of the animated settings, which means the author didn't write much of the book. As this was from Eric's perspective, much of Ariel's thoughts and movements in the story were left out, which makes it necessary for the reader to know the original Disney tale in order to follow the plot. The part that was written was underwhelming. The writing style for me felt stilted and almost juvenile in the verbiage. At one point I put this aside as it had no appeal whatsoever. I only returned to it hoping to be able to finish and write a complete review.

Overall, not a fan, and most likely won't look at the next installment as it is from the same author.
