I should mention I did not read book one (not sure I knew this was the second in a series) and had no trouble following along but may have liked it a little more if I had. I expected it to be more light paranormal romance and a little less fantasy battle, so it really wasn't my cup of tea.

I listened to this one and like Ava Lucas' narration. She kept me interested in the book without being too much.

What an excellent audiobook and story. I'm so fond of this series, and while Boss Witch was my least favorite, it's still such a solid read. I did deeply enjoy the way this one delved more into the magic system and its background, and the couples were cute.

I am obsessed with Ann Aguirre's Galactic Love series and am on a mission to read everything else she's published. I enjoyed Witch Please, the first book in the Fix-It Witches series, and have been excited to read more.

Boss Witch is the second installment following Clementine Waterhouse, a witch, and Gavin Rhys, a witch hunter. Clem is trying to throw Gavin off the scent of the town's coven which spirals into a fake dating situation (that he thinks is real).

This book's timeline runs parallel to the first and even though I'd read book one I often found myself confused or feeling like I was missing information if I couldn't perfectly recall the events of the first book.

I think Aguirre is tackling some important themes around prejudice here, but it also made me uncomfortable that Clem's plan from the start was to sexually distract someone with such a hatred for her people and hard to buy into their love story. It felt like a different set up or trope could've allowed the book to explore that better, especially if Gavin had learned the truth of her identity sooner and we had more room for growth.

Overall I really liked Ava Lucas's narration, though wasn't personally a fan of the voice used for the hero.

That said, I remain a fan of Aguirre even on the rare miss and still am eager to read more in this series.

Who knew I was such a sucker for forbidden love! Clementine Waterhouse is the other half of the Fix-It-Witches and lately she's been feeling like everything rests on her shoulders. Her cousin has found herself in love with a mundane and is acting extra flighty, leaving Clem to pick up the slack. To make matters worse, there is a witch-hunter in town, and Clem decides it's up to her to distract him and see if she can get him to leave town before he finds any of them out.

There's just one problem with her plan...Gavin Rhys, the hunter, is smokin' hot and the two of them have a chemistry that is impossible to ignore.

Each of them is battling with their own internal demons, beliefs, and prejudices, and they each have a lot on the line. They bring out the best in each other though, and I enjoyed watching their growth through the story. This book was fun, sweet, steamy, oh and did I mention there's an adorable mouse named Benson, and Gavin can hear his thoughts?

I absolutely adored Ava Lucas' narration. You might recognize her voice from the last book in the series, Witch Please. The audio comes in at 10 hours and 13 minutes.

I loved this spicy little rom com and cannot wait to pick up the next in the series. This book follows Clem who’s trying to enjoy life till a witch hunter comes to town. To protect her coven Clem decides to date the witch hunter to distract him and keep all the other witches safe. Clem forgot one thing who is going to keep her heart safe. Gavin is sick of being a witch hunter but doesn’t want to let his dad down so while looking for witches on a small town Gavin falls for the wrong girl.

I thought this book was so fun I loved Clem I thought she was fun and spirited. Gavin wasn’t my favorite character but I still really enjoyed the banter between the two. I felt that the character development was way better than the first book and I cannot wait to pick up the next book in the series. I did listen to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narration. The narrator was easy to understand and had me laughing a few times. I would like to thank net galley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.

The narration for this was perfect. I love the dual point of view. It was great to see what was happening with Clementine during part of the last book. I was very curious. I loved the story. The romance and spice were awesome. I definitely recommend this series. I cannot wait to read the next book. Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for this audio ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed the first Fix-It Witches book, Witch Please, and this was no different! Such a fun, flirty, witchy rom-com! This one gets a little more serious into the whole witch hunters thing which was cool to see fleshed out more. Benson was awesome. This family of witches is awesome. Can't wait for Extra Witchy, though it already seems a bit confusing timeline-wise. Ah well.

This was a very quick paced audio book. It drew you right in.

It was a simple story. I appreciate that sometimes - the tension was on point for a quick paced romance and kept you slightly on edge (which I personally enjoy).

The fantasy aspect wasn't very in depth - you got enough information to make it through the romance portion of the book.

If you're looking for a quick read/romance - this is a great little series to get into.

Thank you netgalley for providing me with an audio arc.

It’s mind-boggling to me that Ann Aguirre is also the author of Strange Love, one of my favorite alien romances. This duology of small town witches is so different in comparison!

Boss Witch had some shining moments. I loved Clem and Gavin’s struggle to not fall for each other. They both have secrets that keep them from fully committing, and that angst is delicious! The plot with the witch hunters was the best part of this book, and I wish we’d focused more on that. I hadn’t read Witch Please before reading this, so the subplot with Clem’s family left me more confused than interested.

I think I would’ve loved this more if there wasn’t so much jarring attention to detail. I don’t need every meal described to me dish by dish. It doesn’t make me feel like I’m in the story. If anything, it pushes me out of the story in an awkward way.

Overall, this was a cute romcom! Not my favorite, but a quick and easy read.

Audio Review: I wasn’t a fan of this narrator. I think part of the problem was the difficulty she had in just reading off those excessive details (it’s so much worst to have an entire snack tray described in a book when you can’t just skip the paragraph). But she also just lacked any personality while reading.

Loved, loved, LOVED this book/audiobook!! The story was awesome and understandable, and so cohesive. The narrator was brilliant with her voices and inflections. I will be reading or listening to more books by Ann.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a review copy of ‘Boss Witch’ by Ann Aguirre. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was a contemporary romance with a sprinkling of the supernatural but nothing too in depth when it comes to the fantasy world building. The setting is a small town and all the characters there both magical and mundane. I thought the town setting was a strong element of both books in the series so far.

This is a second book in a series which I didn’t realize when I first picked it up. I was very confused by all the names and characters right at the beginning so I checked out the first book from my library and then came back to this one. That definitely helped. Interestingly enough, the timelines of the books overlap a little. The second book continues on from where the first book ends. In reading the two so close together, I couldn’t help but compare them and I found not much happened in the first book when compared to the second. I also preferred the couple in the second book however I really didn’t like how Gavin was introduced in the first book. It’s downplayed in the second book so if a reader skipped the first they might not get the same impression.

The witch and witch hunter dynamic is not a favorite trope of mine. The reasoning of the with needing to date a witch hunter to throw him off the trail of her coven made very little sense.

There’s a lot of toxic family dynamics that show up in both books. Clem and Danica’s grandmother does some terrible meddling and hurts a lot of people but then the confrontation is just glossed over. The whole ending was kind of anticlimactic compared to the buildup with the witch hunters. I liked that the witch hunters were given the chance to make amends but still witch and witch hunter is not a favorite trope of mine so I found it hard to root for the couple.

I may check out the third book but I was surprised when I read the summary and found that the couple’s relationship has basically played out in the second book on the sidelines. I don’t know if the third book is just going to be another perspective in the same timeline? I’m curious as to why the author would do that and then spoil the storyline. It doesn’t seem like these books would work as standalones or that you could read them out of order.

Eee! It's time for the second novel in Ann Aquirre's Fix-It Witches series! Boss Witch is, first and foremost, an entertaining title. It's also a book I've been looking forward to, as I love this sort of casual paranormal romance story.

Clementine Waterhouse is feeling pretty fed up these days. Fed up with the family drama, emotional blackmail, and now fed up with the threat of witch hunters in their midst. Perhaps that is why she volunteered to be the one to handle the danger.

Enter the hunter, Gavin Rhys. He's not what one might expect of a witch hunter. For one thing, he hates his job, and the pressure his family (read: his father) constantly drops on him. He's been in turmoil for a while, but this most recent assignment has him questioning everything.

As a long-time fan of Ann Aquirre's writing, I've been looking forward to the release of Boss Witch for a while now. This light-hearted witchy series has been a delight, creating colorful romantic plots that enchant readers.

Let me just start by saying I love the whole concept of Fix-It Witches – the magical backstory, their specific powers, the setting, everything. It created a foundation for a light and fun story but still allowed for darker undertones (witch hunters, family drama, prejudice, etc.).

I remember enjoying Witch Please when it came out, but now I think Boss Witch is my new favorite of the series. This surprised me, as Danica is my favorite Witch (so far). I don't dislike Clementine, but her narrative is a bit...firmer. However, her story felt more cohesive, possibly because all the world-building had already been established.

On that note, Boss Witch leans into the family drama but differently from Danica's story. Clem has to contend with her flighty parents, a nagging (and prejudiced) grandmother, and complications with a cousin. The tone is different, even while core elements stay the same.

It's interesting to note that Boss Witch occurs before the end of Witch Please. I guess this makes sense, given the revelation that happened at the end of Witch Please. I enjoyed that timing twist, as it felt more grounded than the alternative.

The story is split into two perspectives: Clem and Gavin. At first, this was jarring, but both characters grew on me with time. I wasn't expecting to like a witch hunter, and I was surprised by how different he seemed from his first introduction. Once we get past that, his story feels more organic.

When I finished reading Boss Witch, I honestly wasn't sure if it was the end. As I sit down to write this review, I see that another book title has been announced: Extra Witchy. And it looks like we're switching to a different coven member, keeping that pattern going strong. Can't wait!

***2.5 stars***

I wanted to like this more than I did. I probably should have read the first book first.... though, I will say that after reading this one and seeing how Danica acted towards Clementine for the majority of her own romance, I have lost some interest in reading her story. Netgalley's summary doesn't really mention that this is the second book in a series, and it probably should have. I didn't realize that this was a sequel until after I'd requested it. This book leans heavily on the plot in the first book and I kept feeling like I was missing crucial context. However, that's not the only reason why this fell mostly flat for me.

The first thing that I noticed was the narrator of the audiobook. I really don't love the voice our narrator used for Gavin. And the "voice" she does for him changes over the chapters, which actually helped. The initial voice was terrible and grated on my nerves. I do feel that the audiobook would have benefited from dual narrators.

It may have partially been the fault of the truly off-putting voice Gavin had, and partially the writing itself but I found it hard to immerse myself in the chemistry between Clementine and Gavin. I didn't even really like their sex scenes. I found them leaning on the cringey side, especially with their first time being referred to as the "exchanging bodily fluids" immediately afterwards.

There's also the fact that the only reference in the entire book made to Clementine's bisexuality is that she thinks about when she almost asked out another female coven member. This book was marketed as having strong bisexual representation and in fact we're told that Clementine is bisexual in the synopsis of the novel. The word "bisexual" doesn't even appear in the book. I just thought that her bisexuality would have been presented in a more overt way, given the way that this book was marketed. Granted, we do get several side characters in loving homosexual relationships, so there is some decent LGBTQIA representation in the novel.

By the halfway point I was bored and had lost most of my interest. This probably would have been a 2 star read, but it got an additional .5 stars for the adorable mouse familiar, Algernon Benson. Overall, the book is kind of bogged down in heavy handed and unnecessary details. I found this to be mediocre rom-com and I probably won't continue with the series.

Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the audiobook copy!

Slow burn romance , Witty and fun.Enjoyed the story , Clem and her coven family are strong female leads who carry the story well . Did not realize this was part of a series , read like a stand alone .

I enjoyed the first book in this series but couldn't get into this one. I just found it pretty boring and not something I would want to listen to.

I loved loved loved this Rom Com about Clementine, a witch who unintentionally falls for Gavin, a witch hunter that she’s supposed to be distracting or throwing him off their trail. It was soooo spicy!! Loved their attraction, and all the family drama as well. I didn’t realize it’s a series so now I’ll have to read the 1st and 3rd once it’s out.

So this book took me a bit longer to finish it than the first book (Witch Please). This one was a bit harder to keep my attention. I liked the good vs bad fight throughout the story and the chemistry with the characters Clem and Gavin.
The last 25% of this book was shocking and got me into it more, did not want to stop listen to it (oh yeah bc this was a audiobook lol) I couldn't wait to see how it ended.
Do we get a happily ever after or do the witches get caught and hurt in the end?!?!?!
I can wait for the 3rd book and last (I believe) in this series to come out.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher/author for allowing me to get a ARC copy of this audiobook for an honest volunteer review.

When a witch hunter shows up in Clementine Waterhouse’s town, she makes a plan to distract him to keep him from discovering her coven and the other witches in town. What she doesn’t expect is the chemistry she feels with him. Gavin Rhys comes from a family of witch hunters. He doesn’t like the job, but he feels the need to follow his father’s orders and not disgrace the Rhys name like he grandfather did 20 years ago. When he meets Clem, he hopes his gig in her town will last longer so he can spend more time with her.

I love the trend we’re seeing lately of witchy romcoms. This is a sequel to Witch, Please. It can be read as a standalone, though it is probably better to start with the first for the worldbuilding. The story is a great blend of sweet and spicy with some humor mixed in, too. I would probably suggest reading a physical copy or ebook, though, as I did not care for the narrator’s voice for Gavin. I absolutely adored Benson! I know the next book in the series won’t focus on Clem and Gavin, but I hope we get some closure on Gavin’s dad in it.

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an audio ARC of this book.

This was great! I love an enemies to lovers romance any day of the week but the depth of these characters was *chef’s kiss*.

In this second installment we follow Clem and Gavin. Clem is the cousin and business partner of the heroine in the first book Danica. This is the second in a series but it doesn’t have to be read in order as the two stories have a concurrent timeline going on. We get to see all of our favorite other witches so it is a lot of fun to continue getting to know the coven.

I just thought this was magical- no pun intended. Gavin and Clem are so spicy and I loved the dual POV which gave a depth of character and allowed a peek inside of both of their heads and to their motivations.

The twist and character arcs were fantastic and honestly this book had me enthralled the entire time I was reading. I love a witchy tale and I cannot wait for the next installment of this series.

Thank you Dreamscape and NetGalley for the audio arc!
