This is the 2nd book in the Fix-It Witches series. The first one is Witch, Please and I enjoyed that one, so I was looking forward to this one. However, I did not enjoy this one as much as the first.
Personally, I was not a fan of the narrator. I had this issue in the first book, but it was even more of an issue during this one because I did not enjoy the accents being used for the characters.
This book is told in third person, but there are random times when the characters will speak their thoughts. This really took me out of the story sometimes. I feel like if I had read the physical book, then I would not have had as much of an issue with it.
The first part of this book was all events that happened during the first book and I didn't really like the overlap. Also, based on the later parts and ending of the book it seems like the 3rd book will also overlap with this one.
Under all of these things though is a story about a witch and a witch hunter who against their better judgement begin to fall for each other. I did enjoy the chemistry between Gavin and Clem even though the overall story wasn't my favorite. It was also fun to see the various people of their small town.
This book wasn't the one for me, but I could definitely see others enjoying it and I will probably check out the 3rd one when it is released. Personally, I would not suggest the audio version though.

Boss Witch is the second book in the Fix-It Witches series by Ann Aguirre. The eBook version is 368 pages. I listened to the audiobook, which clocks in at a little over ten hours and is narrated by Ava Lucas. We follow our two man characters as dual points-of-view.
You can find my full review for the first book in the series, Witch Please, here. This book takes place partially at the same time as the first one, with several scenes that are nearly verbatim. I may have only really noticed this since I read these books right after one another.
In this second installment, we follow Clementine Waterhouse, cousin of Danica (our main character from the first book). Clem is bisexual and co-owns Fix-It Witches, a magical tech repair shop with Danica as they are both technomancers. In this world, various witchy family lines tend to have different gifts. The cousins previously agreed on a pact where they would have fun dating but not actually get too deep into romance so they would never have any man or woman (mundane or otherwise) control their lives.
Clem's biodad is a witch, but she has him blocked from calling or emailing her because he's kind of a big jerk. Her grandmother continues to be a twat in this book as well. When a witch hunter comes to town, Clem decides to keep her book club coven safe by distracting him with her feminine wiles.
Gavin Rhys is from a family of witch hunters, but he doesn't really like that life. He is currently on sabbatical from being a history professor, which is more his actual passion. His grandfather left the order of witch hunters twenty years before, and was labeled as a traitor for falling in love with someone his family deemed unsuitable.
Tropes in this book include: witch heroine, prickly heroine, bisexual heroine, forbidden love, found family
CW: gaslighting, emotional abuse, toxic family situations, child of divorce

Boss Witch is the second in Ann Aguirre's "Fix It Witches" series, and I was so grateful to receive an advanced listener copy as I was eager to hear about Clementine's perspective and her path to hopefully finding love.
As we left off in Witch Please, Clementine had been tasked with distracting a known witch hunter, Gavin Rhys, in order to protect her coven from detection. Dazzling with her charm and her good looks, Gavin falls for her head over heels, but they are on opposite sides of the magical chiasm, and what happens when the hunter falls in love with his prey?
I enjoyed this one, probably slightly more than Witch Please, as this book included more of the magical history and background behind their powers, witch hunters, and how the magical rivals developed. As far as world and story building, I found that I could not put this down and was eager to hear how this would play out. The narrator, Ava Lucas, was smooth, easy to follow, and engaging. I enjoyed the different voices for each character as it makes it easy to distinguish amongst them, as well as the intonations seemed to fit right in with the moment of the story to draw me in.
However, when it comes to the chemistry between the characters, I was less connected to the relationship between Clementine and Rhys than I was with Danica and Titus. While I did enjoy more of the background and the magical story line, I did not feel as invested in the romantic aspect of the story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an advanced listener copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book is released April 5th 2022
I was so excited when I saw the 2nd book on NetGalley I loved the 1st book.
But this time it's Clems book. I loved this one took place during the same time line as the 1st book but now we see the other side of the cousin coin and her real thoughts and feelings.
Clem is trying to hold everything together. From her coven to her parents, grandmother, and her best friend aka cousin. She trys to take on to much and she doesn't ask for help and she doesn't show how she feels she holds it all in.
On top of everything there's a with hunter in town tracking the magic and she of course takes it on herself to get close to him and try to get him out of town without finding out her family are the witches in town.
The only downside for me was I wanted more to be resolved in her family side especially with the grandmother. Yes things were addressed but I wanted more. The things she does wow. But but there is a 3rd book and you bet I'm going to be reading this!
But I love the romance the family and the coven aspects of this book. If you want a fun witche story read this series. Make sure you start with book 1. Witch please.
And I loved the audio made the funny stories stand out more to me.
Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for this audio ARC! I plan on going back and reading the first and then following up for the next book!

When I got this as an ARC, I didn't realize it was book 2 and immediately went to get book 1 from the library before continuing, and I think you really do need to have read book 1 first. My biggest pet peeve is this series has all of the love stories occurring concurrently, but they are put in different books. Book 2 starts about (maybe?) a third of the way into book 1, and book 1 ends introducing book 3's couple, which we already know how it resolves based on this book; I almost wish Aguirre would have written one larger novel that follows all the couples she wants to cover, or that she spaces the timing out more (this is my own pet peeve as a reader though). I felt the concurrent plots were a struggle though - Aguirre fast forwards through some elements because it was covered in another book, but unless you read them back to back like I did, you won't remember certain things. It also seemed like the characters and plot were fast forwarded at times, and the connective tissue of the book wasn't as big of a priority. With that being said, there were some scenes that I really liked, but there were definitely ups and downs in terms of flow in the book. The toxic family aspects of book 1 also get a little worse in book 2 (which I didn't think was possible) so if manipulative and toxic parents - as well as needing to parent your parent - is an issue for you, this isn't the romance for you). Clem also struggles with "being the strong one" but she is absolute shit at communicating (which tracks, but is also frustrating). I feel like we're TOLD she and Danica have a great closeness, but I didn't see it in either of their books which is frustrating.
This book had more discussion of magic which I liked, and I enjoyed the Witch Hunter reveal and lore. Overall the book left me unsatisfied (though she does have solid spice).
The audiobook narrator was solid, and I listened to this easily on 2x speed.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC!

I was curious what kind of man would catch Clems eye. She is the fixer in her family & coven. Clem has been used as a pawn between her parents all her life. Her grandma has used her as well. Clem keeps her needs locked down because she is too busy holding all the shit together.
Gavin is a hunter and he hates it. He has lost his family except for his terrible father. He doesn’t feel like he knows the truth about witches. Now he has fallen for one and it’s too much.
I liked Gavin & Clem. I really wanted Clem too explode all over everyone but she doesn’t. It’s a solid read and Clem’s story is woven through Danika’s timeline too.

Boss Witch 🧹by Ann Aguirre
Format: Audiobook 🎧
Boss Witch is the second book in the Fix-It Witches series. The first was a fun seasonal read in October, so I was curious about how this would hit for me in the spring. In my opinion, witches are appropriate all year round! I liked the premise for this book even more than the first: Clem is trying to distract a witch hunter and lead him off the trail of the witches in her community. . .but they have chemistry and it isn't long before Clem catches feelings.
The audio:
This book works really well as an audiobook! The narrator has a lovely voice for the female characters, but I wasn't a huge fan of the way she did the male voice. I'd still recommend this as an audiobook. It's an easy listen - and just over 10 hours.
Thanks so much @dreamscape_media for allowing me to listen to an ALC on @netgalley
Read Boss Witch if you. . .
🧙♀️liked the first book
🧙♀️are in the mood for steamy, paranormal romance
🧙♀️if the words "witchy rom-com" make you want to adopt a black cat and grab your broom.
Other thoughts. . .
I like that the main character was feisty and protective of her coven.
Not a huge fan of the family drama in this series, but this one had less with that meddlesome grandma.
I didn't completely feel the chemistry between the characters, so I wasn't as invested as I like to be in a romance.
I like the twists that occurred in the second half of the book with the witch hunters.
"Witches are real and they walk among us" books are pretty irresistible to me, so I enjoyed my listen overall!

Quick Summary: Witty. Sexy. Undeniably sweet.
My Review: Boss Witch by Ann Aguirre was a hit with this reader. From the playfully attractive cover to the undeniably sweet story within, this mod romance pretty much knocked it out of the park. The characters were colorful. The humor was constant. The conflict was palpable. The family drama was realistic. The paranormal elements were fantastic. The chemistry was caliente.
One turnoff: I don't like to see or hear the P-word in books. It is a major no no for me. In my opinion, it takes content to a lower level. As such, that is the reason I could not give it the full five, in terms of stars.
Rating: 4/5
Recommend: Yes
Audience: NA/A

** A Goodreads review has been posted.

Is it enemies to lovers if the love interest doesn't know they're enemies? I don't know but I did think the romance was cute. The resolution between the characters was a little too easy in my opinion but it was a fun ride. Forewarning, there a lot of raunchy language and open door bedroom activities. I was all for it but I know everyone has their own preferences.
I can't speak of the witch representation because I really don't know well enough.
Unfortunately, I only realized while writing this review that this is the second book in a series. I think you can read romance series out of order though since it's not a spoiler that the main characters get a HEA. I gave this one 3.5/5 ⭐

What a fun book! This sequel to Witch Please follows Clem's story with Witch Hunter Gavin. This book I actually did enjoy a little more than book 1 because I loved the forbidden aspect of our MC's relationship. These books also actually have great spice and who doesn't love a sexy witch moment? I would say like book 1 I think these books are a little bit longer than they should but on audio I finished it quickly. The audiobook was really well done & I am excited to continue on with this series when book 3 comes out. If you love Practical Magic and all things witch I'd totally recommend this series!

Yes - listen to it.
While the publishers description of the book is accurate - it really doesn't do the book justice. I never did figure out what the lead character being bisexual has to do with anything so if that's your angle, you will be disappointed. Since this is a 2nd book in the series - maybe this played out more in the first book.
That being said, I didn't think I missed out on too much not having read/listened to the first in the series. I think interesting storyline, fun characters and just some fun twists make is a good stand alone listen.
Since I listened to the audio book, I liked the narrator. There was good variety between characters.
I received an ARC audiobook from Netgalley to help me prepare my honest review.

Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the narrator’s voice for Gavin and I’m going to wait and read the physical book of this one. I was a HUGE fan of Witch, Please last year and can’t wait to start it!

I generally enjoyed this audiobook. I was originally drawn by the cute cover and magical rom-com storyline.
I enjoyed reading about the growing relationship between Clem and Gavin. Clem is a witch and Gavin, a witch hunter. I was rooting for their relationship the entire time. I however, was not fond of Clem and found her to be a very irritating character.
I appreciated the character development throughout the book and how both Gavin and Clem stood up for themselves to their families.

I previously read Witch Please on audio and enjoyed it, so I thought I’d read Boss Witch on audio as well. And I was pleasantly surprised with how much I loved this.
I adored Clem and Gavin as individual characters but also their romance. Their banter and chemistry were god-tier; I was routing for them by the end. Plus,I found myself truly relating to Clementine (like she's seriously one of my all time fave characters now).
Secondly, the sex scenes were A LOT MORE steamy and less cringey. I also loved the queer rep in this.
And the small town vibes were everything!
Overall, this was super entertaining and fun to read. And I will also say this was slightly better than the first book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ALC in exchange for an honest review.

Clementine "Clem" Waterhouse has always been the person to take care of others and fend for herself. She did it for years as her parents went through a nasty relationship and breakup and she's currently doing it now in helping her cousin deal with her growing feelings for a mundane - much to their grandmother's chagrin.
When a witch hunter shows up in town threatening her coven, Clem volunteers to be the one to distract him away from her friends and family. But when Clem meets the hunter Gavin Rhys, she realizes that he may post more than a threat to the coven, the biggest threat may be to her heart.
Gavin has been living under his father's orders for as long as he can remember. When you are the son of the leader of the Witch Hunters, there are certain expectations that follow you. But honestly, Gavin's heart has never been in it and since meeting Clem he starts to see more than the thankless job he currently inhabits. But when her secret is revealed, it calls into question everything he's ever been taught about hunters and witches.
First off, the same narrator returns for Clem's story who also narrated Dannica's story in Witch Please. I liked the continuity of the narration. I liked that Clem is given her own voice that's clearly different from Dannica's. I'm a little less sold on the mail voices. I understand it's often difficult to narrate for the opposite sex, but it took me a bit too long to get used to. Eventually, however, like all good audiobooks and narrators, the words just flow over me and I become engrossed within the story.
Overall, I liked Clem's story much more than Dannica's. I just felt like the stakes were higher and it just made for a more compelling read. I think the major draw for me was just getting a bigger and better glimpse into the world Ann Aguirre created. Getting a bit more of the history of the witches and, in this case, witch hunters was interesting. There were a few small tidbits that were maybe mentioned in passing that I'd be interested to see if they're expanded upon in the next book like the witch hunters that were introduced in the first book, but expanded upon in the second.
Honestly, I liked Clem and Gavin just fine, but I wasn't here for their romance story like I was for how things would play out between the opposing factions of witches and hunters. I also liked seeing both Gavin and Clem assert themselves within their families. How they both have dealt with varying issues with their parents (or grandparents) and how those things have had long-term effects on them. I liked seeing Gavin and Clem begin to cope and realize that they don't have to carry those issues over into their own lives.
Overall, though, I've really enjoyed this series and look forward to continuing to read about these characters and watching this world grow.

Really struggled with this audiobook. The narrator does not do a good accent for the male lead and the "voice" she's doing for him changes over the chapters (which is actually a good thing because the initial voice was terrible, I was honestly shocked when the female lead said something about his sexy British accent... I thought she was going for New Jersey, or maybe Rizzo the Rat?)
The story itself is boring and tonally off. It's a light, fluffy romcom... Where the hero is there to murder the heroine and all her family? Like that is pretty dark but the book doesn't treat it that way. I don't know, maybe I missed a key part where they explained that "witch hunter" doesn't mean what I think it means, but I don't understand why the vibe is so fiddle-dee-dee about the base premise. Also it is just straight up hard to root for a girl who knows a guy wants to kill her family but still wants to bang him, or a grown man who is hunting people at the behest of his abusive dad? I mean, cool if that storyline works for you, but if it does, the cutesy romcom vibe of this book is probably not the packaging you are hoping to find it in.

Look out Cinnabonman, this Witch Hunter is even sweeter. Clem is a more fitting protagonist too. I love the magic worldbuilding the other book was missing. Unfortunately, there are problems. Clem and her cousin barely interact in this book, and when they do, it's from the last book when they're mad at each other. The twist in the first book is treated weirdly in this book. It was re-revealed in the first half without any build-up. Clem is just like, "What? I guess that makes sense." <spoiler>The twist is gram lied their whole life about losing their magic. Clem never even thinks "I can lose my powers."</spoiler>Then it's just swept under the rug. So parts of this book wouldn't make any sense reading out of order. I still believe these two books should have been one. There's not much of Titus or Lucy, but there are too many characters anyway. Most frustratingly, Gram once again gets away with everything. <spoiler> They talk at the end of the book and it's crammed in with clem's parents. We don't see Gram feel bad, say sorry, or lose her connections. Then we have an 18-month skip which is way too long.</spoiler>

I enjoyed this book very much, just like the first in the series (Witch, Please)! Very well written and long-anticipated. 4 to 4.25 stars for this one.
It was fun, flirty, witchy, with both parties hiding something critical from each other from the very start - the root cause of the major conflict that all rom-coms must have.
Clementine Waterhouse (Clem), runs Fix It Witches repair shop with her cousin Danica, from book 1 (from everything happening, the timelines seem to overlap). They keep wards up there, at home, and other places their coven meets and uses, to avoid detection by witch hunters. Unfortunately, one day Danica accidentally “spikes” and draws the attention of the hunters, and the council sends one to St. Claire to investigate… enter the crazy, hot guy who appears at Titus’s bakery spouting off insane stuff about witches and the like. Now hey have to misdirect him, so Clem takes on the task. She plans to befriend him at a bar, lead him on, and convince him to leave town quickly.
Simple, right? Except Gavin is not a typical hunter, and certainly a whole lot more than meets the eye! As they get to know each other and start going on dates, she worries he is going to find out the witch he is looking for is her or one of her loved ones, and he is starting to suspect that Clem is more than she seems. Also, the mouse that she gave him to be a companion doesn’t seem to be just an ordinary mouse, either.
The story goes through a lot of unexpected twists, brings in unexpected characters, and takes us to unexpected places. It keeps our attention throughout the whole book and we can’t wait to find out what (or who) happens next. It was as brilliantly written, from both characters points of view, with quite a bit of their inner thoughts on the page, characters from the first book included the whole way, new ones introduced, and I sure hope there are more in the series to come, following others in the coven - this series and her writing of these characters is too good not to have more of it!
The narrator (Ava Lucas) was brilliant, again, same as in book 1. She’s one of my top favourite narrators out there, and always does a fantastic job. Her voices for all of the different characters is beautiful, and I love that she can do such a low male voice, especially with an English accent, for Gavin. Loved it, Ava! 5-stars to you!!
If you’re looking for a fun and light, easy-read paranormal (witch) romcom, a little bit of steam, and enjoy Ann Aguirre’s other books, especially Witch, Please, then you should definitely pick up this one!
I received both an advance audio and arc copy of Boss Witch from NetGalley and Dreamscape Media and this is my honest feedback. Thank you!

This is for the audiobook.
I like the story, but for some reason I couldn’t get comfortable with the narrator. I’m rating 2 stars because I like the story, but I couldn’t get through it with the narrator. I listen to a lot of audiobooks, but I tend to follow certain narrators I really like. Unfortunately, this narrator didn’t work for me.

2nd book in the Fix-It Witches series! The idea of a witch and a witch hunter had me enthralled, and while I truly enjoyed the first book, this one fell flat for a few reasons.
1) I loved the family dynamics, especially between Danica and Clementine, but they practically spend the entire time at odds in this one.
2) Clem is a crab-apple through 95% of the story, making her completely despicable.
3) Unbelievable and lengthy time jump that will make you want to scream!
I love Gavin with my whole heart! His journey for truth and justice, while trying to find out the secrets surrounding his own family tree will capture your heart and is worth the entire story.
