Overall: Enemies to Lovers, witch and witch hunter. This book was a fun adventure following along with the Fix- It Witches, and a hunter who wants to be a better person. Honestly, I know this book was meant to be a romance, but I didn't really feel it. Like, the main couple was cute but it felt like the only thing they had in common was a desire to rip their clothes off. The pacing was perfect and I did almost cry at the end, which is really what saves this book. I really did want to like it, but I didn't really have much sympathy for any of the characters until she stood up to her family.

Honestly, the coven is the best part and they are barely even in it!

Boss Witch is the second book in the witchy rom com series Fix-It-Witches. I enjoyed the first one and I was excited to read this sequel. I enjoyed this one but not as much unfortunately. I feel like the characters were better developed in Witch Please. It was a fun and fast paced read. Looking forward to the next one in the series!

I received a complimentary copy of this book by Ann Aguirre from Dreamscape Media via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for the opportunity.

I liked this better than the first one! By quite a bit. The romance was very nice. I liked both Clem and Gavin, and thought they had lovely chemistry. The book really took off though when the non-romantic plot got going. I'm glad to say that the fact that Gavin is a witch hunter is not wasted, at all. It's a significant part of his character growth, and Aguirre doesn't ignore it in the least. I also thought it was handled really well, how a witch and a witch hunter could fall in love, and the narrative doesn't just gloss over the difficulties there just to give them their happily ever after. Their HEA is well earned.

I actually think I liked the witch hunting plot better than the romance. I definitely love Benson the mouse. I still hate hate hate that the witches can't tell their significant others that they are witches.

Very much in for Trevor and Leanne's book up next.

Thank you so much to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for letting me listen to an audiobook ARC of Boss Witch! Boss Witch is the 2nd book in the Fix it Witches series, and Boss Witch overlaps timeline wise and then goes past where book one (Witch Please) went, so you definitely want to make sure you've read Witch Please before you read Boss Witch.
Boss Witch 4/5 Stars
Summary from Goodreads:
The second in an adorable witchy rom-com series by New York Times bestselling author Ann Aguirre, perfect for fans of:
Ride-or-die female friendships
A bisexual heroine who stubbornly refuses to accept help
A hero with an incredibly pesky moral conscience
A mouse named Benson who may or may not have all the answers to life, magic, and love (Spoiler: he does!)
Clementine Waterhouse is a perfectly logical witch. She doesn't tumble headlong into love. Rather she weighs the pros and cons and decides if a relationship is worth pursuing. At least that's always been her modus operandi before. Clem prefers being the one in charge, always the first to walk away when the time is right. Attraction has never struck her like lightning.
Until the witch hunter comes to town.
Gavin Rhys hates being a witch hunter, but his family honor is on the line, and he needs to prove he's nothing like his grandfather, a traitor who let everyone down. But things in St. Claire aren't what they seem, and Gavin is distracted from the job immediately by a bewitching brunette with a sexy smile and haunting secrets in her eyes.
Can the bossiest witch in town find a happy ending with the last person she should ever love?
I don't know if y'all remember my review of Witch Please, but overall, I wasn't the biggest fan of the book, BUT I loved the world and I loved Clem, so I was really excited about reading Boss Witch and y'all, I was not disappointed! This book was so much fun and I love, love, love the fact that Clem and Gavin were supposed to be enemies and Clem knew it and kept going with things trying to distract Gavin from the other witches in the area while Gavin kept getting closer and closer to Clem, not realizing that she was one of the witches that he was searching for. Besides them, I liked that we were able to get to know more people in St. Claire- I felt like I was missing the side characters in Witch Please and Boss Witch definitely made up for that! And the whole last third or so of the book was so, so good. Man, I cannot wait to read the next book in this series! In terms of pacing and plot, I thought that both of them were really well done- I was never bored nor did I feel like the pacing was ever dragging or anything. Overall, I really enjoyed Boss Witch and I thought it was a major step up from book 1! Boss Witch comes out on April 5th, so make sure you grab it then!

This was cute and super spicy! The enemies to lovers romance between the main characters was sweet and I really loved that even the minor characters had memorable personalities that added to the storyline and overall messaging. I appreciated that several LGBTQ relationships were positively portrayed. This had a great story arc with a satisfying conclusion on multiple fronts.

Boss Witch is the sequel to Witch Please in the witchy rom com Fix-It-Witches series. I actually haven’t read the first one but I own it. 🙈 I saw this one pop up on NetGalley and knew I wanted it.

Clementine Waterhouse is a bisexual witch, incredibly stubborn, and so self-sufficient to the point of it being a flaw. Her coven is in trouble when a witch hunter shows up in town yelling about witches. Clem volunteers to handle the situation, but her only semblance of a plan is to date him to keep him distracted from witch hunting.

Gavin is unaware he is fake dating Clem and definitely has real feelings for her. I loved how Gavin makes mistakes and owns them, instead of making excuses for himself.

The majority of the time when books switch character 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 mid chapter I dislike it and find it confusing. Especially on audio books. But somehow Ann Aguirre did this perfectly and at just the right time, when I was curious what the other character was thinking. The 𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀 were very spicy and fun, they also had me blushing. 😊 The 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 and magical intricacies were perfect. The 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 were amazingly realistic and flawed but lovable, including the side characters. I loved every second of this story and will be (not-so) patiently waiting for the third book.

The sections where the narrator is whispering because the character is thinking or whispering had the volume too low. I couldn’t hear and had to turn the volume up four to five notches each time they started whispering. I even had to relistening to some sections because I couldn’t hear them.

Boss Witch by Ann Aguirre
Narrated by Ava Lucas
Publisher: Dreamscape Media
Genre: Romance, Sci Fi & Fantasy
Publication Date: April 5, 2022

Boss Witch is the second book in the Fix-It Witches series by Ann Aguirre. This book can be read as a standalone novel or as part of the series. This book does overlap with the previous book, but is told from the perspective of a different character, so I think you would enjoy it even if you hadn't read the first book.

I loved this book so much! I don't even know where to start! The characters were wonderful, so likeable and interesting! The story was captivating and I was so drawn into it! And the romance!!!! Wow! You can feel the chemistry between Clem and Gavin (swoon!)!

I loved the narration by Ava Lucas! She does such a brilliant job bringing the story to life!

I highly recommend reading this book! You will fall in love with the Waterhouses! I can't wait for the next book!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the second book in the “Fix-It Witches” series. Don’t make the mistake I did and start here! While saying that, I did struggle initially understanding the atmosphere. However, it really was fine being read on its own with the beginning just feeling a little rushed.

Clementine Waterhouse is not new to holding her coven together. She always has an answer for everything and takes responsibility for her family. She has no time or desire to enter into a relationship. Enter Gavin Rhys, witch hunter, on the job in Clem’s home town. Clem has to do whatever necessary to protect the witches. And you know what they say, keep your enemies closer…

This book was just so cute. I loved the side characters just as much as the main characters. The town's personality was charming and adorable. Don’t get me wrong, it's not as sweet as it looks. This book is spicy!
I listened to the book via audio and the narration was wonderful! I love a narrator that has a good vocal range for different voices while not being too over the top. I would definitely recommend this audio!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an audio ARC copy in exchange for an honest review!

The Story:

It took me a while to figure out why I wasn’t glomming onto this story like I did the first book in the series and it’s because the relationship/sisterhood between Danica and Clem was missing. That’s what drew me to the series. Their cousin/sister relationship was strong and though it is still strong they spend a good portion of this book in an argument and it detected from the appeal for me. On the other hand Gavin had me drawn in so the book was saved. From his upbringing to finding out the things that he did (I won’t speak of them because it would be a major spoiler) kept my attention. Also the chemistry between him and Clem didn’t hurt. I’m glad Clem found someone she can lean on because the stress of her trying to fix everything herself was gonna kill her. I respect her for the tough conversations she had to have with her family though I wish she had done it sooner.

Thank You NetGalley & Dreamscape Media For an advanced copy.

I LOVED the first book. This book however seemed rushed. While I did like the twist that I didn't see coming but I wanted more. I wish there could have been more from Gavin's POV. Mostly at the end.

This was still a great story with an interesting take on modern witches. I would recommend!

This is second in the ‘Fix-It Witch’ series.
I missed the first in this series “Witch Please” but read some reviews in hopes of catching up.

Clementine Waterhouse is a logical witch and likes being in charge; when a witch hunter has arrived in town and is a threat to the witches, she takes charge. Her plan is to distract him and also to investigate what he knows.

Gavin Rhys is the witch hunter and hates his job but his family honor is at stake.
When he meets Clementine her job of distracting him is successful.
There is no doubt that there is chemistry between these two!!

I was sure this was going to be a fun read!

Want to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this Audiobooks for this audio eGalley. This file has been made available to me before publication in an early form for an honest professional review.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for April 5, 2022.

This was a light and fluffy read (at first) that became a little bit preachy (towards the end) in its effort to communicate an important message about social justice issues and systemic oppression. It started off by jumping right into the story, so I’m glad I’d already read the first one in this series; I was expecting a refresher of key characters and details, but that didn’t really happen. Also…I can’t figure out exactly what it was, but I didn’t really love the protagonist or her love interest. They were fine, but they both irritated me quite a bit at different times. All of that being said, there were good messages and ideas throughout, there were some funny moments scattered across the novel, and the overall blend of fantasy and romcom is always a nice way to break up heavier or less-lighthearted reads. I liked but didn’t love this one, but I will still be looking forward to reading the next story in the series.

Boss Witch is the second novel in the Fix-It Witches series. In the first story, the readers are introduced to Danica and Clementine Waterhouse who are cousins and witches living in the small town of St. Claire located near Chicago. That novel followed Danica and her love interest Titus Winnaker and Clementine were in the background having her own story. In this novel, the reader gets to “see” Clementine’s story with the witch-hunter Gavin Rhys as the stories take place at the same time and both of them are referenced in the other book. This is a fun set-up to a series that I usually don’t see as typically many series with different couples follow in a linear timeline with one after the other rather than the stories happening at the same time. With this idea in mind, it is best to read the first before beginning this one as the reader gains additional background for the characters and town.

When witch hunter Gavin Rhys arrives in St. Claire on assignment from his order, Clementine decides to distract him from hunting any of the local witches, including herself and Danica. The two begin flirting and eventually start going on dates with each other. As their chemistry builds, they each realize that they may be developing feelings that do not work well when they each have secrets from each other. As the story occurs with Danica getting closer to Titus, the reader gets to see Clem’s reactions to this building relationship. For me, I was disappointed that she was not more supportive just because Danica is approaching romance differently than her. While I did not agree with her thoughts on this subject, I enjoyed Clem as a character. Not only is she protective of her coven, but she also has a complex relationship with them and her family along with trying to live her own life. Gavin has internal struggles in this novel as he does not wish to follow in his father’s footsteps and questions himself as a witch hunter. It was nice to see these two characters have insta-lust, but slowly develop a relationship over the course of the story.

Since this story dives right into the action, I think it would be not as enjoyable for someone reading this as a standalone. The world-building happens a lot in the first novel compared to this one, which means readers could initially be confused. It is not difficult to “catch up,” but I think some reiteration of the world/setting from the first novel would have been beneficial to add to this story. As characters, I connected a lot more to Clementine and Gavin compared to Danica and Titus. Each was likable in their own way, but I felt Clem and Gavin were a little more complex and I found myself more invested in their story. Both stories, though, were great reads and, as I listened to audiobooks for both I definitely love this format as it adds a new layer of enjoyment. I am very curious how the third novel featuring Leanne and Trevor will fit into this series as there was a little teaser in this story, so I will definitely give it a try when it is available!

**I want to give a special thank you to Netgalley and the publisher, Sourcecbooks Casablanca, and Dreamscape Media, for a review copy of this enjoyable novel. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.**

2 stars, bumped up to 3 for narration

I didn't love this. I want to start off my saying that I don't read a lot of fantasy/paranormal so this was certainly outside of the box for me. However, the cartoon cover, romcom vibes of an undercover bisexual witch romance piqued my interest. Unfortunately, I found the story pretty boring, the family dynamics unclear, and the world building somewhere between confusing and non-existent. I found I didn't care about any of the characters and I definitely didn't care about their romance and HEA. The writing felt stilted and clinical to me and the conflict was a little bit all over the place.

However, if you like fantasy/paranormal romcoms and are intrigued by the grown-up Wizards of Waverly Place vibe, you can definitely give this one a try!

I found the narration compelling and engaging. I didn't love the narrator's masculine British accent, but otherwise I thought the audio was smooth and solid.

Thanks to Dreamscape and NetGalley for this ARC.

This was a lot of fun. I didn't read the first, but it still felt like I was able to follow along, so it's probably ok to say this works as a stand-alone

Thank you Sourcebooks Casablanca, Dreamscape Media, Ann Aguirre, and Netgalley for the advanced review and advanced listening copy. The following review contains my own thoughts and opinions.

Boss Witch was my first read by Ann Aguirre, and it was so delightful! Clem Waterhouse is a witch in St. Claire, a midwest USA small town. She’s happy with the business that she owns with her cousin, Danica, and spending time with the rest of her friends in their coven.

Life is pretty good until witch hunter Gavin Rhys comes to town. Clem volunteers herself to distract him (wink wink) so that Gavin thinks staying in St. Claire is a dead end and leaves town. Benson the cute mouse is a great addition, too!

Clem and Gavin had excellent chemistry that just leapt off the page. While the main focus on the book is their romance, the magic occurred throughout and was fun to read. They definitely went on “classic Midwest dates” like a farm tour, picking berries, brewery (I live in the Midwest; it’s an accurate stereotype 😂).

I haven’t read book one in the series yet, but this worked fine as a standalone. And I’m looking forward to going back to Danica’s story in book one!

Overall, it was super fun to read/listen to and I finished it in just a few days!

This was a different and exciting follow up to Witch,Please! In this sequel, we find Clem and her witch hunter Gavin trying not to fall in love but end up doing so anyway. Their journey was interesting and I liked how different of a character Clem was. She doesn't realize she needs certain things from loved ones because she doesn't believe she deserves them. Gavin, our witch hunter, took me awhile to warm up to because of the organization he was a part of. I'm glad he still took responsibility for his actions and not forgetting the people he harmed unknowingly.
I'm also glad they took time away from one another afterwards to build themselves back up before reuniting.

* This book is the second book in the Fix it Witches Series

When a group of witches learn that there is a witch hunter in town(Gavin), Clem volunteers to distract him. Clem meets him at a bar and they "hit it off." They go on several dates before they realize that they are falling for eachother. Clem battles with her feelings for a witch hunter while Gavin has battles of this own. Gavin isn't sure he wants to be a witch hunter anymore, however he doesn't see a way to escape it. Especially with his father being the head of the witch hunters. Eventually, Gavin realizes that Clem is a witch and is even more torn on what he needs to do.

You should definitely read book 1 before this book even though the focus is on different characters. You'll miss too much world building and family dynamics if you don't.

Magic- Check
Forbidden Romance- Check
Spice- Check Check

This was a cute story and I found myself relating to Clem. I wasn't necessarily hooked on the relationship with her and Gavin. I think I liked their individual character growth stories more than their love story.

I listened to the audiobook. I like the narrators girl voice but not the male voice she used. I know others loved it but I found it more comical and distracting. It made it harder for me to enjoy the book overall.

This book is great. What happens when a Witch and a Mundane Witch Hunter cross paths and have a strong connection? Clementine and Gavin are wonderfully put together characters. You can't stop reading or listening. This is an all nighter book. Ann Aguirre has created a group of people you can imagine in your friend circle. She wrote a great fun read or listen.
