Rick Cahaill, a private investigator who had tragic events happened in the past and now suffering with some kind of neurological degenerating disease.

One day received a call from a client who needed his help in finding out some information regarding her employers' activity in hiring new recruits without going thru proper screening. However things went wrong when the client found dead in her house.

A corporate involvement or is there a real serial rapist lurking in the city. Rick has to find out himself how his friend got involved and the motive.

Average crime read for me and will check out his other crime novels.

Thank you for Netgalley for the Arc & Oceanview Publishing

This was my first book by the author and I wouldn't rate it as an easy experience. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, and I feel there's enough context for it to feel like an individual story.

If you like police crime, urban, full of drama, mystery, betrayal, and reflection (a lot, a lot of reflection), this is a very interesting, emotional, and raw read. The story is so well-conceived, that it works even in an environment full of action and many alternate plots. Don't miss this one!

This book was a toss up for me, I nearly gave up a few times but managed to see it through to the end. Not one of my favourites.

I've read several of the earlier titles in this series and mostly enjoyed them. This one... not so much. Fiction is such a matter of personal taste that it seems unfair in many ways to write negatively about a novel just because it didn't appeal to me, but you expect me to be honest here and I will.

This series has evolved into fits of seemingly endless navel-gazing which I gather is supposed to pass for character development. It's all just too California for me. Worse, that development has turned the prose, particularly the dialogue, into clunky and turgid paragraphs that just lie there rather than flow. The narrative itself is thin, and the sidebars focusing on the protagonist's family and personal issues overwhelm the core narrative line which should be carrying the story. All the blathering about the protagonist's personal trials starts to feel like padding, and it becomes repetitious to the point of being downright annoying.

Like I said before... it's all just too California for me.

Much better plot than some other books in this series, and the characters are very good as always.. Entertaining and easy to read.

Doomed Legacy by Matt Doyle is the latest installment in the Rick Cahill, Private Investigator crime series. The story centers around the murder of an employee of a company for which Rick performs background checks of prospective employees. The reader is immediately caught up in the action when Rick attempts to uncover the guilty party. The reader will become enmeshed in Rick’s marital situation as well as his health issues.

The non-stop action takes place in California from San Diego to Santa Barbara to Monterrey. It is the kind of thriller that you want to keep reading but also want to pace yourself because you don’t want it to end.

There are several sub plots including a serial rapist, nefarious characters with several aliases, shell corporations which are largely untraceable, police cover ups, etc. — all of which are thought provoking and make for enjoyable reading.

I thank NetGalley and Oceanview Publishing and, of course Matt Doyle, for the opportunity to read and review an advance reader copy of a terrific novel.

An intriguing mystery with some interesting characters. Even though this is book 7 (I think) it is easy to follow without having read the others in the series.

Free ARC from NET GALLEY

Although I did like 31 and #2 better this one is fair game for action types although Matt is in danger of "Reacher death" where the books are too formulaic. Still good overall

DOOMED LEGACY, the ninth novel in the Rick Cahill series by Matt Coyle, is a fast paced, gritty crime novel set in Southern California. Former cop, Rick Cahill, is a P.I. primarily conducting pre-employment checks from his home office these days in order to spend more time at home with his wife and adored baby daughter. After a client is violently murdered, Rick begins investigating and enlists another P.I. as he suspects more is involved than the killer identified by the police. The murder is described much more graphically than I prefer reading, but the hunt for the killer is excellent with a believable ending. I look forward to reading the next novel in this series.

This book was sent to me electronically for review from Netgalley…intrigue…mystery…friendship…this book, written by a talented and gifted author, is one that is difficult to put down…the protagonist is a likable character and his actions are easily followed…continuity in this book.... red herrings…guessing and understanding finally. Rage…deadly disease…Themes in this book that make it difficult, at times, to keep reading, but it is worth staying until the end.

I STILL say this is one of the best series written these days! Matt Coyle has again, kept me on the edge of my seat and missing sleep to finish this latest installment. I feel like Doomed Legacy is a return to form for Rick Cahill even though his personal life seems to be more chaotic than ever. Great story this time around, and thank GOD Midnight is still with us. Being a big time dog lover, losing him would have devastated me as much as it would have Rick!

The latest entry in the Rick Cahill series finds the hard-boiled detective in a bad way, suffering from serious problems and his relationship with his wife is strained to its limits. Nevertheless he gets on with the business of being a PI and investigating questionable doings at a security firm and the murder of his client. This is a gritty mystery with a deeply flawed, fully developed main character. I have enjoyed this series.

Rick Cahill is a private investigator. He has suspected CTE and his health is slowly degenerating, causing him to loose control when angry. His wife Leah has taken their daughter Krista to her moms and things don’t look good for his marriage. He hasn’t told her about his worsening health issues.

Rick receives a call from one of his clients, Sara at Fulcrum Security. She wants him to investigate some potential shady business going on. Rick finds Sara murdered soon after and continues to pursue the investigation and now her murder. Was she killed by a serial killer or is something even more sinister going on?

This is my first book by this author. There are other books in the series and I did feel a little lost stepping into the series without reading those. Still it was a good book and I would recommend.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Good read, had not read Matt's other books in the series before this and it didn't matter. Are all PI's destint to be alone with a pet??
Favourite character Moira she was a true friend. I will go back and read the others👍

3.7/5

🌱THE EXCELLENT
~ A murder mystery with corporate espionage, family drama and thorough, overenthusiastic investigators
~ Quick read
~ The MC has some depth, although he isn’t exactly ‘likable’ - just a human
~ Lots of women floating around the story

😶 Rick Cahill, private investigator, adversary to Millennials, owner of cop DNA, stickler for identifying someone’s possible heritage on sight, ex-murder-suspect, father and husband, has been pulled into a case that should have been a basic company check. A case that after a brutal rape and murder, continues with the ‘despicable act’ of sending dick pics 😶🤭, hiding shell companies, spies, and a sus bully PI firm. Rick needs to be of help, even with the disease plaguing his mind, his cop DNA will allow no less. He will throw himself into a search that could permanently destroy his reputation, business and family, but sometimes, you have to do what’s against the law? 😬 Eh, no?

✨Give it a read.

🌱THE MEH
~ Nothing distinctive about the story
~ 😬 A few weird beliefs kept seeping through (about DNA, env, the law and Millennials 🤣)
~ Quite a bit of ‘emphasis’ repetition
~ 🤦 You’d think they’d manage NOT to randomly involve China in a conspiracy theory mystery 😩 sigh… 🙄

♡🌱 But that’s just me ;) `

Good book! This book had suspense, intrigue, action, and a good who done it! It also has murder and mystery! It wasn't one of my top favorite books that I've read but still worth reading! I would still recommend reading it as it was a decent book! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
