This was such a perfect read. I love Enola Holmes so much. It was short, fast and thrilling to journey with Enola as she solves the case of Mycroft's abduction and shine the light on the Alarm, a rebellion group. The colouring and artwork is so good, almost feels like 3D.
Plus Enola's famous 4th wall breaking Monologues that she uses to being the reader along with her. I can't wait for the new season to continue her journey to becoming a detective and forge her own legacy asides from Mycroft and Sherlock.
Also the artwork using the main characters from the Netflix film, Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill, Louis Partridge, Susan Wokoma, and Sam Claflin was incredible almost felt like actually watching a short sequel film. This is why I love Graphic Novels so much.
*I received an ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thanks for the free graphic novel*
"Enola Holmes: Mycroft's Dangerous Game" takes place between the first movie and the highly anticipated second one, but I found it quite repetitive when still remembering the content of the first movie. Mycroft has been kidnapped and Enola investigates with the help of her friends, eventually she saves the day. Sherlock (Henry Cavill) shows up once or twice, but mostly this is the action driven investigation story that you already know from the first movie. I was a bit bored though, not sure why, maybe because it was a bit predictable or because I don't like Mycroft in this adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle.
The actors were captured really well and Victorian London also looked nice!
3,5 stars
Enola Holmes: Mycroft's Dangerous Game picks up from where the previous film left and follows Enola as she sets up practice and solves a mystery. Soon enough, she realises she may have bitten more than she could chew...
WOW!!
This graphic novel was way better than expected! I read it in one sitting and loved every second.
The storyline is fantastic, the dialogue is so good and of course, the graphics are amazing.
One of my favourite graphic novels of the year -and I don't say this lightly!
Once again, Enola is caught up in a mystery. In this case, she needs to help save Mycroft while also keeping herself free from him. This is based on a story by Springer, but doesn't seem to be part of the book series. It has a very different feel from the graphic novels by Serena Blasco, based on the original 6 novels by Springer. I found the atmosphere of the illustrations closer to the novels. But because they cover different stories, they are not in competition. This is definitely recommended for all Enola Holmes fans.
When teenage sleuth Enola Holme’s brother Mycroft is kidnapped, she sets out to rescue him. The trail leads to anarchists on the verge of a disastrous act. Enola must enlist the aid of a friend in the House of Lords along with a street urchin to save her brother and expose the conspiracy. The illustrations in this graphic novel are nicely done. I enjoyed the strong plot, the determined heroine, and the historical setting. This title is a welcome addition to the series and a fun escape! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read an ARC for an honest review.
While the artwork was great, the story was too short and had too many words for my taste. I am curious if this storyline - which takes place after movie one, before movie two - will be mentioned in the second installment of the Enola Holmes movies.
I would only recommend this graphic novel if the person was into the Netflix film or either of the actors.
Hot off the conclusion of the 2020 Netflix film comes Enola Holmes's next adventure, Mycroft's Dangerous Game. This continuation graphic novel has stellar art that truly captures the essence of Millie Bobby Brown as the young Enola and the rest of the Holmes family.
We find ourselves with Enola, desperate to get back the book her mother gave her, and suddenly find herse searching for clues to help solve a mystery that Mycroft is involved in. Nothing like a little bit of anarchy and kidnapping to deal with!
A fun and quick read for teen Enola fans. The art is vivid and makes London feel lived-in as much as a graphic novel can. Definitely recommended for a younger/teen reader rather than an older teen-reader, as the novel resolves the case rather quickly in a span of six chapters. (This is my only complaint with the story - as an educator who teaches the mystery genre, it is obviously necessary to wrap up and have a logical concluision to the case - but this conclusion came too quickly in a span of... three spreads? The ending shift felt a bit abrupt.)
Warning! This may be a bit confusing for a reader who hasn't previously been exposed to Enola's film; the film is "required reading" before picking up this graphic novel. Could absolutely be used as an extension in a class/unit where the Enola film is viewed.
Thank you to NetGalley and Legendary Comics for this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review!
The latest Enola Holmes graphic novel is a fun read for anyone who enjoys the series and is waiting for the next season.
Mycroft has been kidnapped by anarchists, and Enola and her friends are desperate to get him back. Enola visits Mycroft's study to take back a precious book Mycroft had taken from her years ago - The Language of Flowers owned by her mother. Mycroft comes back unexpectedly, so Enola hides in the chimney. Shortly after he comes home, men break into his study and kidnap him. Despite all he has done to her, she knows he loves her, and she loves him.
This was a very quick read for me. It is interesting to see the characters drawn as they appear on the TV screen. I imagine purists would be bothered by a book taking after the TV series, rather than the other way around! But kids who are interested in mysteries and Holmes will enjoy reading this graphic novel.
Thanks to Netgalley for the advance copy of this book.
Thank you Legendary Comics and NetGalley for yet another amazing advanced electronic review copy of this book. I really enjoyed this beautifully illustrated, fast paced, action filled installment of Enola’s adventures. I think I love her wit, spirit, attitude, and unconventional way of problem solving even more than Sherlock’s! Can’t wait to find out what she does next! Highly recommend.
Great addition to the Enola Holmes collection. If you enjoy the films on netflix you will really like this one.
This short comic was such a fun read for everyone who admires the Enola Holmes movie and probably for everyone who wants to get started with this witty little detective.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. The art was remarkable and I loved the details in the drawings as well as the story. Especially the scenes between Enola and Tewkesbury were so fun to read and so cute, I really hope for this pairing to get a Happy End one day.
This is a fun, fast-paced, and quick read for those that are fan of the film and Sherlock Holmes.
The art is really interesting and beautiful, and the story is great for when you want something short and simple. This would be a great book for teens and young adults
I received an ARC of Enola Holmes: Mycroft's Dangerous Games from Legendary Comics via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
Enola Holmes is at it again, solving the mystery of Mycroft's sudden and violent disappearance.... or is it something more sinister?
The story was fun and a quick read. there was a beginning, a middle, and an end and kept me intrigued throughout. I wish there had been a bit more substance and detail and meat in the story, especially in the asides and speaking, but Enola was as witty and stubborn as usual and it made for a enjoyable read.
I, personally, enjoyed the connection of the illustrations in the graphic novel with the Netflix movies. Enola Holmes character looked like the actress who portrayed her in the film. I loved Millie Bobby Brown as Enola and enjoyed her likeness in this graphic novel. I can understand how it might be a bit confusing of a take to make, though, for people who have not seen the movie and have only read the books. On my Kindle, the images were a bit blurred and distorted, but I was able to get the gist and decipher them. The illustrations, with the view I had, was rough, yet eye catching. The color scheme matched the story theme and mood, which worked well and added to the suspense and mystery of the story line.
Another Enola Holmes story where we revisit some of the great characters from the Netflix series. It was a fun mystery which great humor reminiscent of the show. I loved every minute.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Enola Holmes
A fun short graphic novel I really enjoyed as a fan of the film and book series. Great for those who want an add on to the world of Enola Holmes as it’s filled with lovely illustrations and a fun plot to follow.
Although I did enjoy reading the graphic novel, I definitely felt that to understand what is going on you need to understand some of the original plot of the film however I guess as it’s related to the film, pre-existing knowledge may be known to the readers. It’s entertaining, fast paced and rather comedic.
Would love to read more Enola Holmes graphic novels in the future as I understand that there may be some others.
Will I reread in the future? Yes, it’s fun and a quick read.
Will I read anything else by the author? Yes, if connected to the world of Enola Holmes.
Thank you Netgalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review
Was excited to read this graphic novel after having seen the Enola Holmes movie on Netflix. This graphic novel did not disappoint. You definitely don't need to have seen the movie to appreciate this beautifully illustrated and well-written graphic novel.
Very fun quick read - the graphic novel format works well and ties in nicely with the film. I see this as a great stepping stone for some reluctant readers who have enjoyed the film. Definitely one I'll be recommending in my school library.
I have not read a comic/graphic novel since my childhood but this being a continuation from the first Enola Holmes film caught my interest. And I'm glad I requested it!
It was such a fun read. I loved the illustrations and how close they are to the actors' physical appearances.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this.
When Mycroft Holmes is kidnapped Enola is on the case. Along with her are old friends and newly made ones and she's on the tail of anarchists, finding clues as to her brother's disappearance and scandalously wears trousers while she rides her bicycle.
I knew there was a Netflix movie, but I haven’t seen it yet (but it’s on my list); however, I really enjoyed this. Enola is quite the young lady. Her level of intelligence easily rivals Sherlock’s.
The writing is engaging, and the story is fun. However, I think this story is a part of a series, and this is the only book I’ve read in the series if that’s the case… So I was able to follow along without any issues. However, if there’s a bigger plot at play, it may be worth it to get the other books.
The illustrations helped move the story along, and they were stunning. My only complaint, though, is that some of the writing was a little blurry, making certain parts difficult to read. I was reading this on my iPad, so that could be a contributing factor. I would recommend reading this on something a little bigger.
Overall, this was a fast-paced, fun read that everyone could enjoy. I recommend watching the film first, however.
