Thanks netgalley for the arc.
This was a fast passing read.
I was glued to the page 😂
And al the twist and turns in the story 👀
I didn't expect the ending.

This was an easy read and was a good story, but as far as a thriller…. Not the best that I’ve read, sadly. It started off super creepy and I got very excited and then just as quickly I became rather disappointed. I enjoyed the character development as they all had complexity to them, but the book felt so staged with each of the characters placed there just to make you think “oh, it’s THEM.” A good read, but not spectacular.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book is one that most mystery books fans will really enjoy.
The plot had so many twists and turns I couldn’t put the book down
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery or thriller.
This book had me stumped. Sitting smug and thinking I had it all thought out, the author put me in my place. Finally we have a thriller that will keep you your toes.
I just absolutely adore this author and every one of her books is a five star read. And this one! Wow! Just absolutely amazing. Her best so far and that's saying something. Loved it.
Fast paced but very predictable story. A good read.. The characters had depth and had suspenseful moments but I prefer it to end in surprise. I figured out the ending way before and it was not a big surprise. I recommend it because I'm sure there will be other opinions from different views. Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the advance ecopy.
A good read, kept me guessing for a while, and was well written.
Thanks to the publisher for a review copy.
Another enjoyable read from Laura Wolfe and Bookouture. Rachel has left her abusive husband and her and her six year old daughter Lily have moved into an apartment in the city. The apartment was affordable as the previous tenant Annie had broken her lease and moved out. Rachel has also managed to secure a scholarship for Lily at an expensive and exclusive Academy and she starts to believe that they will be able to live a safe life here. That is until she receives a letter addressed to Annie and she decides to open it, only to read that the person writing it was warning Annie and saying that she was not safe. Rachel believes that someone has been in her apartment, begins hearing strange noises and starts questioning Annie’s disappearance by questioning the neighbours and realises she can’t trust anyone. She begins to form a relationship with one of them, Alex who is a teacher at Lily’s school but starts to doubt whether he can be trusted. This book had me gripped from the first page and is full of tension and suspense and kept me gripped right until the end.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
I struggled with this one, even though I was very intrigued by the premise. I found that the protagonist’s sudden fall into love didn’t align with her goals at the onset of the novel and it distracted me, especially with all of extra descriptions about Chicago and their dates. It didn’t feel believable. I did enjoy that there was ample suspicion cast amongst the characters, but something just fell flat for me.
Firstly a big thank you to the publishers for my copy to review on netgalley.
A enjoyable twisty read which makes you question who to trust straight away.
I’ve gone through the contact procedure myself so I vould really emphasise with the character.
Fast paced and unpredictable. Packed with tension and cleverly written.
Secrets and lies are scattered through as we slowly discover the truth. This is definitely a author I’ll be reading again.

Rachel and her daughter Lily are looking for a brand new start after her divorce from her ex-husband, Keith. She & Lily move into an apartment but soon things go downhill. The woman who lived in the apartment before Rachel, mysteriously up & disappeared. Her neighbour, Alex, takes interest in her who also happens to be a teacher at her daughters school. Rachel becomes increasingly paranoid about what happened to the woman & what's going on. But it may be more than she bargained for. Could her & Lily be in danger? Everyone is not who they seem in this apartment building.
Unfortunately the book did not do it for me. it was a rather slow burn and I found myself skimming through some parts. I also did not really want to finish and although the twist was shocking I don't think the overall experience was worth it.
This is definitely a book you want to read with your lights on! A seemingly perfect new house turns into a potential prison for a young mother and her child because of the ominous secrets surrounding the previous tenant. An exciting read!
This one was 3.5 stars, rounded up. I thoroughly enjoyed the story throughout and was guessing until the end. However, the ending kind of took it down a notch for me. It felt a like Wolfe tried a little too hard for a twist.
Psychological thriller centred around an apartment building. Rachel and her daughter move in anticipating a new start away from her abusive ex husband. Lots of intriguing characters and lots of twists and turns.
Wow! This book was everything a psychological thriller should be! I lovedddd the characters, each and every one of them. I loved the setting, I loved the unique storyline.
Not going to lie the first few chapters had me thinking this was just like Lock Every Door by Riley Sager. I am glad to say that it is in fact nothing like that book.
Rachel and her daughter Lily move to a new apartment in Chicago to get away from her abusive ex husband only to find out the tenant before went missing in the middle of the night. Now with her ex threatening her and this new found information Rachel is starting to feel unsafe in the very same apartment.
Rachel Gleason left her violent husband and took their daughter, Lily, with her. In a chance of luck, she found a quaint, affordable apartment within walking distance of her daughter's school. It's a strange situation - as the previous tenant, Annie, left in the middle of the night without any of her belongings. No one seems to think anything is amiss other than she owed the landlord money.
However, when Rachel finds a letter from Annie's sister in the mailbox, she is compelled to read it and suddenly the apartment does not seem so perfect anymore. At night, Annie hears the neighbor yelling through their shared wall and wakes certain someone is in the apartment. Something is amiss and Rachel is determined to figure out what happened to Annie. Will she be able to solve the mystery or will she, too, disappear?
This is a great read. The characters are well developed and interesting. While there were slow parts and perhaps sections that could have been cut out, it was a fun read and kept me guessing until the very end!
The Girl Before Me by Laura Wolfe was a great read and a great psychological thriller. I was gripped from the very first few pages till the end. It was so good I finished it in two sittings, and it had so many twists and turns throughout, I could not put down.
I highly recommend this book.
Big Thank you to Laura Wolfe, Bookouture, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Great psychological thriller. It was a pretty quick read that kept me on edge. I will definitely be looking for more of this authors books.
This is the first book I’ve read by Laura Wolfe and it didn’t disappoint! I felt super connected to the characters, and I was suspicious of everyone throughout the entire story. Just when I thought someone could be trusted, I was proven wrong! I tore through this trying to find out what was actually going on. Definitely recommend!
