A brilliant book with a very original plot.
It’s not often, as an avid reader of crime fiction, that I can say I come across a totally original plot idea. This is one of those.
In the first few pages.
A young girl is found murdered
A family report their daughter missing.
The Police notify the parents about the girls murder, but it’s not the girl they reported missing. It’s her sister and nobody had reported her as missing.
The secrets are buried in the community of the Outer Banks North Carolina
A great book.
I enjoyed this 6th book, The Lighthouse Girls as much as the others in this detective series. A teenager is dead and her sister is missing; they were both at the local funfair. Casey White is a great detective, a determined, smart, and compassionate woman, though she carries emotional baggage. The other characters are also well created and developed, especially ex-sheriff, trustworthy and amiable Jericho Flynn. Casey and the team's interactions are always interesting to read as they set about looking for the culprit(s).
Set in Outer Banks, North Carolina the plot pacing was frenetic with plenty of action, and there was certainly no room for tedium or boredom. The story was fascinating and I revelled in the problematical investigation. Enthralling to the very end, I shall be watching out for the next in the series and I'm immensely keen to see where the talented B.R. Spangler hopefully might take things next. A highly entertaining and absorbing police procedural which I recommend without any hesitation.
Disclosure: Thank you to Bookouture via Netgalley for providing a digital ARC of The Lighthouse Girls by B.R. Spangler for review. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Another Solid Entry In Series. With Book 5 (The Memory Bones) wrapping up the core long-term mystery of the series (and this book spoiling that reveal early, so be forewarned if you haven't read that book yet), I wondered then if Spangler was closing out the series, not really seeing how it could move forward. Here, in a sense Spangler is offering more closure, with former teammates returning and (without going *too* far into spoiler territory) another teammate's death in this tale - while not yet offering any hint of any further long term mystery. Still, this is a murder mystery series with heart, and I'm absolutely along for the ride in Book 7, whatever Spangler decides to do with that. Start earlier in the series if you're new to it - possibly all the way back at Book 1 (Where Lost Girls Go), but I personally started at Book 4 (The Crying House) and found that to be a reasonable entry point as well. When you do, you're going to want this book on hand anyway, just to come back to a now-favorite storyline. :) Very much recommended.
Enjoyable series with good characters. Can be read alone but there is a lot of back story which is relevant. Good story with plenty of twists.
4.25⭐
The Lighthouse Girls returns readers to the Outer Banks and Detective Casey White, who at the end of book five found out what really happened to her daughter Hannah, and with the truth finally revealed and most of the team having moved on it's down to Casey and Tracy to investigate when a teenager is found dead by Casey's boyfriend Jericho in the water near a local lighthouse.
But what starts out as a simple murder investigation soon becomes much more when its revealed the dead teens sister is also missing and the pair were last seen at a travelling fun fair. But is someone from the travelling fair to blame or is there something far more sinister happening closer to home?
And with more murders that bring the old team back together, a death that hits close to home and plenty of twists this was a very engaging read and I was easily gripped. Not to mention I had no idea who was responsible until they were revealed.
I would therefore happily recommend The Lighthouse Girls to others.
So this is book six in the series and I recall having read book four (that's when I became aware of the series) and despite having missed book five it didn't affect my enjoyment of the story another fantastic edition.
This author writes with great detail into the investigation and police procedure and the setting is brought to life on the pages.
An intense emotive read that I read in one sitting.
I am really enjoying this series and it is very well written and exploring the family dynamics. There were different plot lines going on which was really interesting.
I would really read the series from the beginning so that you get the full backstory,
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
Another good crime thriller from the reliable B.R.Spangler. A plot that keeps you guessing and will certainly not be easy reading for some people who have a certain phobia. One tragic event within the team seemed a little contrived for me.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookoutre for providing me with an Advance Reader's Copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
I’m still new to this series so having a refresher Of Casey’s history was a good place to begin. Carnivals are fun to attend, but one In particular is quite deadly. As the bodies pile up, Casey has to put in a lot of overtime to track down the killer. Or is it killers? The old team gets back together temporarily, which was nice. There is a irrevocable loss, however, that made my heart lurch,
. The ending was just what I wanted, until it wasn’t. I will have to wait until the next one to see what happens.
This one starts with a bang and keeps you gripped until the last page. This case is twisted and keeps you guessing. I absolutely didn't know what was coming next or how it would turn out. As always I enjoy reading Casey. Things are starting to really come together for her. The other characters are great as well. I was a little disappointed at the very end but look forward to seeing where things go from here. I'm ready for the next book now! Definitely one of my favorite series.
I loved this fantastic murder mystery. The setting provided the perfect tone for the whole book. The eerie seascape, the lighthouse and the visiting funfair gave me the shivers. That opening chapter - chilling!
The lead detective, Casey, drove the investigation. I very much enjoyed being in her head and seeing the story unfold through her eyes. The team dynamics between her, Jericho and Tracey felt natural, and I devoured the pages that developed their relationships.
There were emotions aplenty to be had. I bounced from tense, to sad, to biting my nails. ‘The Lighthouse Girls’ is an unputdownable read with many frantic rollercoaster moments. Perfect for those who love a whodunnit!
Great book. I read it in one sitting. I love this series and I'm already looking forward to the next one.
This was my first Detective Casey White book, though it’s the 6th in the series. There was a lot I liked about the book, and other aspects not as much. I find the author did a great job of keeping us “up to date” on what happened in the previous books, without dedicating a lot of pages to rehashing everything. It gave me enough background to not be confused, while also making me want to go back and read the backlog. There are a lot of simultaneous plot lines/lots of branches to the story to make it interesting without being chaotic. However I could never full get into the rhythm of the authors writing, like there seemed to be a speed up and slow down that happens, and I had to check a few times that I hadn’t accidentally skipped pages. The writing was quite dry and I found it to be in the clinical side.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of The Lighthouse Girls, the sixth novel to feature Detective Casey White of the Outer Banks Sheriff’s Office.
The body of a teenage girl is found murdered and washed up on the shore. She is identified as 16 year old Laura Jackson and on notifying her parents Casey discovers that her eight year old sister, Shawna, is missing. The girls were last seen at a travelling carnival, which packed up and left before Casey could discover that Laura is not the only teenager who was murdered after a visit to this carnival.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Lighthouse Girls, which has plenty of twists and turns and offers more than the synopsis would suggest in its development. The novel is told almost entirely from Casey’s first person point of view. This brings the reader close to the investigation and allows them to get stuck into a meaty narrative.
This series is designed for entertainment, so it’s fairly light in its tone and not particularly profound in its procedure. So what when it has continual forward motion and an absorbing plot? It does what it’s designed to do and I read it quickly, wanting to know what would come next. I like that it starts with one body, expands to one body and a missing child and then keeps growing. The author does a great job of holding the reader’s attention with a linear plot and strategic reveals and developments. It’s easy to read and understand, but not at the expense of an interesting plot. I liked the way it all came together with almost everything explained. There is one loose end, but that may be me being picky.
The characters are fairly standard. Casey has had her problems in the search for her kidnapped daughter, but that’s now resolved so she can focus on her cases. She’s dedicated but a bit gooey about friendship in that saccharine way that gets a bit cloying.
The Lighthouse Girls is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
This is a fantastic story which I didn't want to stop reading. It is a crazy rollercoaster of emotions......this series keeps getting better .
This is an ongoing series and I love following all the characters as they mature and even move in their lives. This story was set in the Outer Banks. Several teenager girls are found dead in nearby towns and the race is on to find the killer. Their were happy sections but very sas scenes too. I will. Continue to read this series as hopefully more books will follow
When the funfair arrives in the Outer Banks it is immediately a popular place for families to meet and for groups of youngsters to congregate. When Detective Casey White is called to a body found on the beach she discovers her victim had visited the fair before disappearing. Arriving to speak with the parents, Casey and new partner Tracy find out the tragedy is far worse than they'd feared; their only other child is missing.
With the investigating department depleted and her relationship with Tracy still evolving Casey is dismayed to discover her victim isn't the first and knows it's up to her to ensure she will be the last. Reaching out to previous colleagues things finally begin to move but as their search for the killer and frantic hunt for the missing child continues her amalgamated team is rocked by tragedy as it strikes far too close to home.
This is the sixth Casey White novel and gripped me from the start. Casey and Jericho are among my favourite crime partnerships and although the latter isn't a major player in this investigation he is still a vital part of the storyline. After the major revelations of the previous book things are a little quieter this time around although the crime itself is a complex one which I enjoyed immensely along with the gradually evolving relationships of the main protagonists.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is a great addition to a series all of which I happily recommend.
Detective Casey White is investigating the murder of a teenage girl whose body was found on the beach near a lighthouse in the Outer Banks. While investigating, Casey discovers that the victim has a younger sister who is missing. While searching for both the murder and the missing girl, several more young girls who were also murdered are discovered up and down the coast. Are they all committed by the same person...and can that person be caught before any more girls are murdered....
i have loved this series from the beginning. Detective Casey white has now found her daughter who was beknown to her a member of her team. Tracy. she is trying to form a relationship with her. and her relationship with Jericho is stronger. Casey gets a call from Jericho who is on patrol a body of a young girl has been found only 16 years of age Laura Jackson. she and her sister Shawna who is eight went to the Carnival with there neighbour the Newmans but when they go to the jackson s house they find that the younger daughter is missing. both sisters are adopted buy the Jackson s.this book is very twisty you don't know what's going to happen next quite a few shocks.
If you like detective murder mystery’s then this is definitely a book/ series to read. It is the first book in the series I’ve read and I will definitely look for the others. The book is well written with a great plot and characters. It’s one of those books that you don’t want to put down until you know everything.
When Laura is found dead on the beach and her younger sister disappears Detective Casey White finds a surprising link to other cases. Familiar characters return to help and the plot has many unexpected twists and and turns.
