Over all, a very cute and interesting concept and rom com. The sex scenes were unexpected and I don't think they fit well with the concept. Nonetheless, will read from this author again.

The concept of the manga was great. I was expecting a sweet pg-13 rated rom com so I was shocked by the sex scene.

This was really cute and I loved the idea of animal like character working and doing normal jobs, it's was very new and original idea. I really enjoyed reading this and art style was on the point. The characters were very likeable and I loved Yagi. He was the cutest, the storyline was pretty good🥺

Yagi the Bookshop Goat, by Fumi Furukawa
★★★★☆
194 Pages

Yagi the Bookshop Goat is a surprising, unusual story that was delightful. In a quirky world of anthropomorphic animals, where carnivores and herbivores have their own regions, Yagi is an anomaly. A goat who is nature-driven to eat paper, but who is madly in love with books and dreams of being a bookseller. Inspired by someone in his past, Yagi finally gets hired in a bookstore in the carnivore region, who understand his talent of being able to scent the mood/themes of a book.

With this unique premise, the story seems like it should be funny, weird and quirky. And it is. All the way through, there were cute, funny moments that showed you the bond between Yagi and the boss who makes him nervous, but whose written notes leave a delicious scent behind. I utterly LOVED their dynamic with each other, and how it helped Yagi overcome his fear of being in a carnivore region, and his urge to eat the merchandise.

Yagi was adorable from page one. Ookami was a fitting, scary boss with a soft spot for Yagi. The themes of opposites attract, age gap, and the reunion with a mentor, really helped push the story forward as well as adding other dynamics to their relationship. There was a definitely grumpyXsunshine aspect, which I love, with Yagi being the oblivious but adorable idiot, at times. There were lots of accidents that led to funny consequences.

In the end, I loved the story and the characters. I probably would have rated it higher if it hadn't been for the 18+ content, which I felt wasn't necessary to the story. It didn't add anything important, and the part that was plot-related didn't need to be shown on page in detail to know what was going on. A fade-to-black would have been perfect, giving the story a stronger YA feel, since the story is so cute and quirky that it would be perfect for the YA market.

This was so cute I'm still crying over it!! I absolutely love the art and the story was so soft. I'm a sucker for books so I can understand why Yagi just can't control himself! I've joined the Whipped for Yagi club

Definitely a book more in the "reach" category if you're not deep into manga. As soon as you have human/animals it can be harder for the western reader to fully understand.

Thank you very much to Netgalley for this ARC!!

In this manga we find that the world has been divided in two territories: the carnivores and the herbivores. Our two main characters are Yagi, a goat who from a very young age knew he wanted to be a book seller, and Ookami, a sweet wolf who is the owner of the bookshop Yagi works at (and not so casually finds himself being in love with our cute goat). Yagi has been struggling to find a job in the book world as he often ends up eating the books he has to take care of. However, this boy goat has a special talent as he is able to taste the flavour of the papers he eats. Ookami lets him work in his bookstore and from then on we see their relationship grow as they interact, find about their own childhood background and reveal their most hidden feelings for each other.

This manga was honestly so cute and wholesome, but it felt way too short for me :( I would have liked it to have a bit more of yearning and leave the characters deal with their feelings for a longer time before they confessed. However, I will not deny that it is such a swift and fresh read. It does include two explicit sexual situations, but these are justified and make total sense in the narrative so it didn’t bother me at all. I love myself a story with childoon to strangers to lovers trope and this has given me it :)) Very recommended for a cute and quick mlm romance story!!

I'm just gonna assume anyone reading this review has read the book description and has a general idea of what's going on in this story, it'll make things easier for me. Thing you should know before reading this book: despite its cutesy look, it is adult, and has two sex scenes that get explicit, though not as explicit as some I've seen before. The scenes are fairly quick, and can be skipped over if they bother you.
This is a sweet, warm-fuzzy romance that made me squee (the confession, when it comes, OH MY HEART). Yagi is especially adorable, so bright and shiny, and his ability to "taste" the books (or other paper items like notes) is really fun even as it causes him some confusing new feelings when a coworker gives him an adult magazine to munch on, which awakens new urges in Yagi (also, so not cool of the coworker to do that). Ookami is such a softy once we get to know him, and these two make a great couple. And the art, so lovely! This is a one-shot manga, but if it became a series, I would definitely want to keep reading about these two!

AHAHAHAHA. Somehow I missed the 18+ memo on this book, so when the spicy things started happening I was like, WHAT IS GOING ON HERE..? Yeah, that was my bad. It's clearly labeled on Netgalley's website.

This is such a cute book. Yagi wants to work in a bookshop, but because he is a goat he loves to eat paper. No bookseller will let him work, until Ookami-san the wolf takes him on at his shop in the carnivore zone. As a librarian, I can relate to how the booksellers feel about their jobs... it was really sweet to see that reflected in this manga. I wasn't sure about the romance at first, but I think the two who get together are a pretty cute match. I don't really read adult yaoi (I like my manga rated T for teen lol), but this was a cute, sweet one.

To be honest, I’ve sat on this for a couple of days and I still don’t know how I properly feel and how to explain this.
I think my official rating is 2.5 stars but I’ve rounded it up on here.

Essentially the premise is the world is split into two; the herbivore zone and carnivore zone but we follow a goat working in the carnivore zone. It’s quite cute but I feel like there is an odd story line following the main two characters and a particular scene… (the reason this is a mature manga).

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Well, that was...interesting.

Firstly, this is my first manga.
Secondly, this is my first (somewhat) RA manga.

The premise of the story was what attracted me. I mean, how cute. Goat kid wants to work at a bookshop and can taste the story behind the book!

It was really fun to read, except the RA parts. Now, I do not care whether it is straight or LGBTQIA+. I REALLY DO NOT. I always seem to day, it would have been as wonderful a story without the sex, albeit a shorter one.

Ultimately, very fun and original read.

Thanks to @netgalley as I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This manga is utterly fluffy sweet meet-cute. Its such a nice concept especially when it has to do with bookstores. Yagi is so sweet of a character. I hope they touch more into using his "abilities" more ongoing.

I enjoyed this manga very much!! The characters are extremely likeable, the concept is unique, and the story is super cute as well as spicy! The premise & adorable cover drew me in immediately - a goat who loves reading (and eating) books and whose dream is to become a bookstore clerk, plus a scary wolf store manager whom he tries to charm into giving him a job... What's there not to love?

I loved all of the characters, especially Yagi and his ability to "taste the story" when he eats a book (how cool!). I loved his and Ookami's relationship, it was so cute and sweet!! I enjoyed the mature (18+) scenes, too.

All in all, I really liked this world and art style, and I would love to read more of this manga and more of Furukawa's works in general!

(Thank you to Fumi Furukawa, Tokyopop, and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.)

I really enjoyed this manga! I don't know that the graphic scenes were necessary to the plot; they definitely came out of no where for me, especially since the 95% of the plot is absolutely adorable! I also wish it were a bit longer or maybe even a series so we could have more time getting to know the characters. The world this takes place in is an interesting concept, and I would read more like it!

Yagi the Bookshop Goat is a cute story about a goat working in a bookshop. This is unheard of, as goats like to eat paper, so are not usually allowed in such places. Yagi also has a special talent; when he does eat a book, he can taste the story. This is appealing to his wolf boss, Ookami as it draws in more attention/customers to the bookshop. That and the fact that there is a goat working in the carnivorous zone.

I liked Yagi and Ookami's relationship. I also liked the friendships with the other characters in the story. It was fun seeing the different animals personified. It is a super cute premise, and I would like to see more from these characters.

*I do want to point out that this story is for 18+ as it features two detailed sex scenes. They are not long (~ one/two pages each). When I downloaded it from NetGalley, the scenes/age range were not noted, so it was very surprising when it did come up. It is now noted on NetGalley and is noted on Goodreads.

Thank you to Fumi Furukawa, Tokyopop, and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was adorable and I wish there was more! In the world that this manga is set in there are herbivores and carnivores. Each category sticks to their own side and doesn't cross over unless it is absolutely necessary. Yagi is a goat who loves books - and loves to eat them. He really wants to get a job at the herbivore bookstore but they're a little hesitant because, well he eats paper and that's not really a good fit for a bookstore. Desperate, he decides to try the carnivore bookstore and see if they will give him a chance. There he meets the wolf bookstore manager, Ookami who decides to give him a break and see how he does.

Overall, I really loved this manga. The set up was great, the chemistry between the characters was adorable at first and progressed into something a little more steamy as the story went on. Over all, if you are looking for a cute BL manga then I would definitely try this one out!

This manga is adorable! I love the art and character designs, especially Yagi's design. Yagi is always brimming with emotions and I love how the mangaka captured both his sweet, pure, earnest side as well as his adorably flustered side. The story - and romance at the heart of the manga - is super soft and cute. I thought it was really cool that Yagi can pick up on a person's emotions from eating paper they've written on, or determine book types by taste. (Yes, he does eat some of the books - he's a goat after all!) I also thought the setting was interesting, with a society divided between herbivores and carnivores, and how Yagi is a rarity by being an herbivore in the carnivore side of town. Also, I love the bookshop and all the interactions Yagi has with staff, authors, and customers. If you're looking for tooth-rotting fluff with a side of sexy, this is your manga!

Alright, this was actually much cuter than I expected it to be. First of all, because the drawings, especially the ones of Yagi. He is such a cutie pie, so loveable. And second, because of the story of course.
Yagi is a goat who loves to eat paper but who also want to work in a bookstore. I think you can already see the problem here. However, by some miracle, Ookami accepts him and scolds him when he eats books but doesn’t fire him. Plus, Yagi can taste paper in a unique, he gets what feelings were felt when such story was written. It is quite interesting. The romance could be a bit classic but it works so well I just loved it. I’m not a big fan of their first sexual encounter which is why it’s not five stars but that’s my only reason.
I recommend to people looking for adorable characters and unusual settings
4/5
