This was such a cute story! After Zootopia, I really love the idea of these kinds of stories, and Yagi and Ookami were just the sweetest! I loved how Yagi could taste the story of a book, and how Ookami loved him from afar and wanted to protect him. This was a really sweet story about a goat who wants to work in a bookshop but can't stop eating the books he's supposed to be selling.
i had a couple issues with this book, mainly: the obvious age gap and the arc for how they met. it kinda threw me off considering one was close, if not already, a teenager while the other is obviously a child; the other, is the inevitable sex scenes that most, if not all, of bl books have.
aside from these, i found this book to be such a cute and relaxing read. it was refreshing and the setting of the story reminded me of how, when i was a child, i also dreamed of becoming a book seller or a librarian myself.
Cute bookstore romance, full of fluff! Yagi a goat works for Ookami the wolf's bookstore and is excited to pursue his dream :)
Love the art style and I thought this would be all cutesey but there was some spice and it surprised me LOL
3.5⭐️ Yagi The Bookshop Goat is a cute manga about a goat whose dream is to work in a bookstore, but they are banned in herbivore areas since goats eat books😂he is persistent in pursuing his dream, so he seeks work in a carnivore area where he meets Ookami, the wolf the only one who accepts a goat in a bookstore.
These two are cute together. The art is gorgeous & shows all the adorable expressions of the characters. It's full of fluff. There is nothing deep in this story, though you have to be warned that there are only two 18+ scenes; I was caught off guard as there was no warning about it, so just be warned.
I enjoyed this quick, cute, fun read & it's available now❤️
Thank you, @tokyopop & @netgalley, for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Yagi is a goat who both loves to read and loves to eat the books he reads. He has a dream of working in a bookshop, but after getting turned down by every bookstore in town, he ends up working in Ookami the wolf's bookstore. This manga was so cute in its art style, story, and it's characters! The art style is lovely; I love the soft and fluffy look the mangaka gave to the characters. The characters themselves are also so fun. Yagi, the main character, is such a sweetheart, so you just want to cheer him on in his journey. Even the minor side characters are lovable. I really liked watching the romance unfold, and it was written in a way where you really root for them to get together. The spicy scenes were a little bit of a surprise, but within the context of the story, they fit perfectly. They're very sweet and romantic spicy scenes, which is always a nice thing. My only complaint is that the story is too short! I wanted to see more of the couple after they get together! If this got turned into a series, I would totally read the next volumes.
By the description, I expected this book to be more PG than R, which wasn't the case. There is an explicit scene. I didn't feel that it took away from the story, and it didn't seem gratuitous.
Yagi can taste the story when he eats a book (which he often can't resist, b/c he's a goat). At the bookstore, he sets up displays of books with the same "flavor," which would be so helpful when trying to find a book of a certain type. I wish I lived in this city to check out the store.
The overall story is very sweet. Ookami, the scary bookstore manager, is a broody, reserved type, while Yagi is a naive, younger man. The tension while readers wait for Yagi to figure out that Ookami likes him is almost too much, and then the story resolves quickly into them moving in together. I know it's romance, so this shouldn't be surprising, but I kept getting Jane Austen vibes from their interactions.
I loved the art, and all the characters are well developed. I want to know more about Chitah! Since it's a yaoi/BL story, it includes LGBTQ rep. I feel it would be a good introduction to the genre and to manga as a whole, as long as you know it'll get explicit. Since it's set in a bookstore, it appeals to people who love books, so if you've been thinking of getting into manga, check it out.
I received an advanced copy from Netgalley for an open and honest review.

First want to thank Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this in exchange for an honest review! This was such a cute and adorable read with a little spice. I love the fact that Yagi chomps on books and can freaking taste FLAVORS. The romance is super cute and fluffy so if you are into that I say go for it. There were some interactions that I found funny as well.
All in all I loved it and only took a point off because it is only one book. I'd love to have read a series!
A sweet and charming boys love manga from Tokyopop's new LOVE x LOVE line! As someone who works surrounded by books all day, I adored the main character Yagi who loves books but is also compelled to eat them by his goat instincts. I loved his superpower of sensing the emotions in the words he eats. The other main character is the wolf, Ookami, who runs the bookshop where Yagi works and who is secretly in love with Yagi. The very cute art reflects the blushing flurry of emotions Yagi experiences as he also falls in love with Ookami. Overall, I really liked this book, but I agree with previous reviewers that the sex scenes sometimes caught me by surprise because they didn't seem to flow smoothly from the previous scene. Occasionally, I wondered if I'd missed a page. Despite that, it's a charming read and I would happily recommend it to a fan of the genre.
4.5 stars! This adorable albeit a bit smutty Boys Love manga had me hooked from the the cover alone! I love stories set in bookshops and felt particularly drawn to this one as I used to be a bookseller. Yagi is a cute goat boy who dreams of selling books after having a love of books fostered by an older kid who worked at a bookstore. However, being a goat, it is well known that goats have an affinity for all things paper, so every bookshop on his side of town (the herbivore side) adamantly refuses to let him anywhere near books. Thus, this bibliophile of a goat finds himself on the carnivorous side of town begging for a job. Enter broody wolf boss, Ookami san! He has a special connection to Yagi and is endeared enough to give him a job. Thus sunshine Yagi and grump Ookami devour…I mean…navigate the book world together while slowly revealing their true passion…each other! 😭 I really liked this manga, but knocked it down a half star only because I feel like the few smut scenes made it feel a little less sweet and wholesome in the end (granted I should’ve been prepared for them… but I assure you I was not hahah).
This book reminded me of Zootopia, Skullface Bookseller Honda San, Yakuza Lover, and Food Wars.
Really cute manga! Tokyopop really gets good mangas. Really cute story with some spicy scenes! Wasn't expecting that but it was a happy accident. Yagi is a goat who always wanted to work in a bookshop but he's a goat and eats paper so he finally finds one in the carnivore zone that lets him. This starts his relationship with ookami the wolf. I love them! They are so cute! I couldn't put it down! I highly recommend this cute spicy manga.
Overall a cute story! The story followed Yagi who works at a bookstore in the carnivore zone. This a rare occasion since goats had intense craving to eat paper and books so they were usually banned in bookshops. Moreover, Yagi was special for he could literally taste stories as well as the feelings and intention of someone who wrote notes on paper. The relationship between Yagi and Okami was written nicely since they had some history which would be reveal later on. On the other hand, even when it was a yaoi manga and some steamy scenes were already expected, it just came out of nowhere. The transition were not so smooth so there were some parts that readers might find confusing.
Nevertheless, this was still an enjoyable read. 3.5 stars!
Thank you TOKYOPOP for the digital galley!
Be still my cold dead heart this book was adorable! I mean the concept alone for this was adorable but the follow through was amazing as well. This was a relatively short manga but still I couldn't put it down it was so cute. I loves all the characters and their misadventures. I definitely think if cute slice of life style romance is your jam than please please check this out. You won't regret it.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
When I first saw this cover and read the description I was so excited to read it.
This concept of a goat who eats books but his dream is to work in a bookstore surrounded by carnivores was just so interesting to me.
The beginning is something I really enjoyed it started really strong and I expected to absolutely love this.
Unfortunately, that did not happen the more the story was progressing the more I found myself caring less.
I feel like something was missing. The pacing was very weird too, characters felt a bit bland and with no personalities just shells of people. Don't get me wrong I get that this is a graphic novel and it does not have to be deep but I just could not make myself care about the characters.
Another thing I'd like to mention is something that's completely my fault, but I expected a wholesome cute story which it was but I have not expected s*xual content. That took me off guard, again though this is my fault for not paying attention when requesting it.
On a positive note, the art is just incredible, the characters were just so beautiful and I am sad that I have not enjoyed it more.
As soon as I saw the listing for Yagi the Bookshop Goat on NetGalley, I knew I had to request it. I was so surprised when I was granted access to it only a day after requesting, but I was also so excited! I devoured the entire thing in one sitting and I do not regret a single moment of it. The story was so sweet, the art style amazing, and the relationship between Yagi and Ookami was so endearing. It was pretty obvious from early on (to the readers anyway; Yagi was adorably oblivious), that Ookami was the boy from his past, so knowing the significance of that added even more layers to each of their interactions.
While on the surface level, this manga might seem pretty simple and straightforward, there was actually some really cool worldbuilding happening. It kind of reminded me of the movie Zootopia with how the communities were divided between herbivores and carnivores. I think it would be so cool to see more manga set in this world with different characters and relationships. I would read all of them.
The bookshop was a key part of the story, since that’s where Ookami and Yagi work. I loved every scene in the bookshop because I felt like it was so fleshed out and an integral part of their relationship. Books are what connect Yagi and Ookami, so seeing them in that environment was great. Also, I just adored the premise of a goat who loves books and wants more than anything to work in a bookstore, but has trouble with it because he keeps trying to eat the pages. I mean, that’s just adorable. And Yagi was adorable! He was so precious and sweet, and I wanted to give him a big hug. The way he could taste the emotions and feelings behind any piece of paper he ate was so cool! And led to some very interesting situations.
After having been on an anime kick the past couple of weeks, Yagi the Bookshop Goat was just what I was looking for and has totally started a new manga obsession! If you don’t mind a couple of steamy scenes in your manga, I highly recommend this one. It’s so fluffy and cute and easily read in one sitting. I’ve already pre-ordered a physical copy for my shelves because I loved it so much!
I received a copy of this manga through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
A sweet love story with anthropomorphic characters. It has some saucy mature scenes (yaoi) but they’re consensual and part of the natural flow of the plot. The art is very cute and the characters are so very kawaii! I liked it a lot! 🥰
Yagi the Bookshop Goat is a BL about Yagi who works at a bookstore in the carnivore zone. This is rare because one; he's a herbivore and two; goats are known to eat paper on sight. His boss Ookami was the only bookseller that would hire him.
This was pretty cute. I liked the characters and their relationship. The art was also cute. Would recommend if you want an easy romance manga to read.
The art in the book is nicely drawn. The facial expressions really show well on some of the characters faces. You can feel the emotions. Character development is nicely written. One is soft and insecure while the other is very understanding. Yagi and ookami are cute together. Things do get steamy and in detail so if you don’t like that then this book isn’t for you
This was a cute enough little boy's love manga set in a world where demi-humans are divided by carnivore and herbivore. One prominent feature is that goats, who eat books and paper, are often banned from bookshops, but our main character Yagi is a goat who loves to read. He even has the ability to taste the emotions and feelings behind the words on the paper he writes, but the only place he can find a job is in a carnivore-territory bookstore owned by a wolf named Ookami.
For some reason, I could not connect to this book at all. It had some of my favorite tropes so I'm frustrated that I couldn't put my finger on why! I think maybe the characters are a little flat, and the pacing seems a little off. The art style is cute though, and this will be good for people who like opposites attract stories, childhood friends to strangers to lovers, or soft boys.
What I thought was going to be a cute and cozy romance ended up being more spicy and explicit than I anticipated (of course then I saw the age guide on the back of the book). I liked the premise of Yagi working in the bookshop with this cool power, despite tearing apart the books. But I was not a big fan of the romance between Yagi and Ookami due to the apparent age gap between them and Ookami meeting him as a child. I also felt like the spicy scenes (two of them) were a random addition to the story that were a little out of place.
Thank you TOKYOPOP and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was my first Manga! I loved reading every moment. There are so many things I want to say but it might spoil reading this. I’m so happy with they way it ended. I want to buy this when it comes out and read it again.
