Thank you to Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book.

Unfortunately, I could not get into the story at all. Maybe I should have read the first book in the series? That might have helped? I could not get into the character of Dr. Valorian. The plot seemed to wander and I quickly lost interest.

The story felt jumpy to me. The characters feel like they are just running around with no real reason. I didn't hate the book. I just think it needs more focus on the mystery part of the story.

The emergency room is a perfect setting for a story as fast paced and dramatic as this one. I loved the protagonist and the author did a great job of firmly entrenching the reader in her world. The writing style may not suit some as it is quite dramatic at times but the plot itself and the characters make this well worth the reading.

Dr Valorian is at a medical convention when she encounters an old nemesis who pulls her into a deadly game of cat-and-mouse. She will need all the help she can get to survive including that of a friendly and seemingly prescient magpie.

Magpies and Murder is the second in the Dr Valorian Mystery series by Steven Gossington. It is an entertaining mystery with plenty of twists and turns to keep the read engaged. A good read to curl up with on a rainy spring afternoon.

This book read like a story that was submitted in English class in high school. Juvenile writing and not enough connection between the scenarios in the book to make it flow correctly. If the writing had been better, this could have been a really good mystery. It’s too bad, as the introduction of the Magpie was an interesting idea.

I was drawn to this book by the front cover which I found to be so interesting and visually stunning. I wasnt disappointed by the story either, it was well written with enough medical know how and jargon to make it plausible without bogging it down, an interesting and gripping storyline and well developed characters. I also really l;iked the setting of the book and the descriptions were so vividly rich that sometimes I felt like I was between the pages living the story that just reading it.
It was unpredictable and twisty and I found it a really enjoyable read. I will definitely be looking for more from this author.
