This book is the perfect summer read!
Emily Henry is great at writing banter between couples. Often when I'm reading a book, banter between the main couple comes across as forced, however Nora and Charlie's exchanges flowed well and were genuinely funny. The chemistry between them was obvious, and it was also clear why they liked each other.
I also really liked Nora, I thought it was interesting to read a book from the perspective of someone who in many ways is a traditional 'Hallmark movie villain'.
However, some parts of the book that were not focused on the main couple were a bit weaker. For instance, I felt that the end of the book dragged a little, particularly parts where it was delving into Nora and Libby's backstories and why Nora had such issues with trusting men.
But overall, a fun, breezy read with a great main couple.
I really enjoyed this lovely story, a really good reminder to never assume you know someone and their motives. Thank you to NetGalley & publisher for this book in exchange for honest review.
‘Maybe this is why people take trips, for that feeling of your real life liquefying around you, like nothing you do will tug on any other strand of your carefully built world. It’s a feeling not unlike reading a really good book: all-consuming, worry-obliterating.’
Finally I can claim, ‘Yes! I have read an Emily Henry book.’ Now, time to go back and read them all! I adored it! Simply stated, it is a book by a book lover, about book lovers and should be read by all book lovers. How freakin’ awesome!
‘It’s never taken effort - that’s what made me fall in love with reading: the instant floating sensation, the dissolution of real-world problems, every worry suddenly safely on the other side of some metaphysical surface.’
How can the one book contain so much! Let me tell you, through simply exquisite writing! You will get all the feels, all the laughs and yet still …. so much depth and true to life that lifts it into the stratosphere!
“I’m always a fan of the truth,” he says. “No one’s always a fan of the truth,” I say. “Sometimes the truth sucks.” “It’s always better to have the truth up front than to be misled.” “There’s still something to be said for social niceties.”
The banter between Nora and Charlie was so on point, it was good, not to mention a slow burn romance that is up there with the best of them. The commitment to family and siblings is inspiring. Nora and Libby’s relationship brought a tear to my eye. Yet, for me, watching Nora’s personal journey of growth … well, that left me speechless. I could feel everything she was feeling particularly with regards to her upbringing and a desire to hang onto certain traditions and memories.
‘The words break apart like alphabet soup, letters splintering off in every direction, utterly meaningless now.’
Book Lovers is fun and heart warming but also serious and sentimental. There was everything I was hoping for from an Emily Henry book - a wonderful romance, a story of devoted siblings, a love of books sprinkled everywhere and a small town trope with a twist. I highly recommend this to romance lovers and book lovers in general!
‘That is what I’m looking for every time I flip to the back of a book, compulsively checking for proof that in a life where so many things have gone wrong, there can be beauty too. That there is always hope, no matter what.’

I hadn't heard of this author but I will be looking out for more of her books as I really enjoyed this one.
Nora Stevens lost her mum at a young age, and did everything to look after her sister. Even when her sister got married with 2 children of her own Nora still looked out for her, putting her hopes and dreams on hold to ensure her sister was ok.
When Libby asks Nora to go with her for a vacation in Sunshine Falls, before her 3rd baby is born Nora agrees and the 2 go together with a check list of things to do in town, one of which is to date a local. Unfortunately Nora is an agent, and her nemesis is Charlie an editor - and exactly who she meets in Sunshine Falls!
Despite trying to date other locals, Nora and Charlie are thrown together in all sorts of ways, and they start to think that maybe they are in each other's destiny - until they aren't!
A sweet book, with very real and imperfect characters who you get completely invested in - wanting to find out of they get a happy ending. I really enjoyed it.

Nora is a book agent who goes on a month long break with her sister, where she runs into a work colleague from New York. Her sister has a checklist of things for her to complete whilst they are away. An enjoyable, relaxed read. With quite a predictable ending, however I would have been disappointed had it ended any other way. Thank you Netgalley for the advanced read.
This is my favourite out of all of Emily Henry's books so far.
If you've been following me on Instagram, you probably know that I almost never cry because of a book (or series, or movies, or any kind of fiction, honestly). The last time it happened was in 2020, until I read Book Lovers, saw myself in Nora, and ended up silently crying into my pillow because of how much I understood her.
At the beginning of the book, Nora describes herself as someone who is cold. She's career-focused rather than romance-focused, and her lovers are constantly leaving her for sweeter women. She's the shark, the ice-queen, the emotionless robot. And yet, the further you get in the story, the more you realize that none of that is true at all.
Nora is extremely protective of her family, to the detriment of herself. Her sister, nieces, and brother-in-law are her priority, and she will do anything for them. If Libby has a problem, she will fix it--with or without her knowledge. So while she may come across as ice cold to her boyfriends, she actually feels things intensely if it has to do with someone she loves. She also has anxiety when it comes to the idea of losing her family, although we're never explicitly told that's what she deals with. But I recognized it nonetheless. All these facets of Nora remind me of myself and my family, and I found myself effortlessly able to empathize with what she was going through.
I've now spent two paragraphs talking about things that have nothing to do with the romance, even though this is a romance book, but the interweaving of deeper themes is part of what always appeals to me in Henry's books. The romance here is also amazing. I absolutely loved Charlie. He is funny, understanding, supportive, and really sweet with Nora, and there were so many scenes where I was just melting inside. They have great banter and chemistry. I disagree with the "rivals to lovers" label this book is getting, though (they don't even have the same job...). Henry also mercifully skips over any super dramatic third act conflicts between Charlie and Nora; in fact, the conflict in this book is unrelated to the romance, and that's the only part that felt like it suddenly escalated from 10 to 360 with little build-up. But that's a very minor gripe for a book that had me by the feels.
Highly recommend, and definitely one I'll reread.
I have never read an Emily Henry book before, but I certainly shall again. It tells the story of Nora, a hugely ambitious literary agent who is persuaded by her sister Libby to take a girls’ trip to the small town of Sunshine Falls. There she encounters her bete-noire, editor Charlie Lestrange. An involving and sparkly read, this books really sweeps the reader away.
I usually love Emily Henry's books but this one blew me away since the first pages. I'm a fan of small town stories and the irony in the descriptions of those type of stories made me cry with laughters.
I loved this book, I think that the author did an excellent job in satirising the myth of small town simpler life and the hysteria of Nora's life.
It's a poignant, highly entertaining, and multilayered story. You can read as a romance, a satire, a humorous story.
Do what you want but read it.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
I really enjoyed reading this story. It's like a romcom within a romcom, while poking a bit of fun at romcoms. So right up my alley. I do like the switch up of big city girl, not enjoying the small town. Nora knows what she likes and loves. Some people are just meant for the city, and no handsome, charming local can change that.
Though Charlie was charming in his own way. Their witty banter was highly entertaining, and I adored these two together.
I definitely would recommend this to any romcom fans.

Loved it, - Emily Henry never fails to please. Nora and Charlie have never got on but when they both end up in a small town, how can they avoid each other. Perfect holiday reading, hard to put down.
This is definitely my favourite Emily Henry book so far. I really enjoy metafiction and narratives that explore writing and books. The chemistry between Charlie and Nora was fantastic and I loved their banter,
There were enough plot points that kept me interested and didn't drag on. The romance wasn't the only driving force in the story which was good as I like romance with substance.
This is one of the hardest reviews I have written lately, because all I want to do is scream: READ THIS. IT IS AMAZING. IT IS EVERYTHING!
I can’t really point out why this book is so amazing. It is kind of a love letter to all book lovers over the world and it is a wonderful journey to read as a book worm. But it is also impossible to not fall in love with the characters. I loved Charlie and Nora so much and they did so many things to my heart, I can’t even. The characters are so well written, you will be overwhelmed with all the emotions and all the feels and the chemistry? Out of this world.
This is my third book of Emily Henry and I think this is my absolute favorite so far. I would have never expected that this one would surpass ‘Beach Read’, but o my, this book is everything. I want to live in it. I cried on the end and I didn’t want it to end. Ever. Period. (I can completely relate to Charlie now).
I could continue with a whole lot of incoherent love, but just read it. It is impossible not to love it. So convinced? Happy reading!
Rating: ****** (yes, there are six stars)
I really enjoyed this book. Nora was a great main character and the the way Charlie & Nora bantered back & forth was so funny. The interaction between Nora and Libby was interesting and it had a solid ending. Highly recommended.
I had high expectations for this and Emily Henry blew straight through them. This book is so, so good. Henry has created a complex, beautiful hybrid of women's fiction and romance.
The characters in this book were deep and had dimension that I feel characters, even in great books often lack. Henry's writing is excellent, as per usual. She made me feel each of her character's emotions as I laughed and smiled along with them.
This plot was original and fun, and I think my favourite part about this book is that it's so clear that the author enjoyed writing it. Henry's passion for her craft shines through in her work here, and I enjoyed every second of it.
I gave this book 4/5 stars and would recommend it to all 16+ readers. I think this is a must-read for the year and has a little something for everyone.
I absolutely love anything and everything written by Emily Henry and I especially loved the 'Book Lovers' and I would not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
Book lovers is a wonderful testament to readers and to those who love their romance sweet, sexy and heart-warming.
Nora is a character with layers, slowly revealed. From ruthless ice queen, to warm and genuine, she is an awesome character. Fiercely protective of her younger sister Libby, Nora has put her own dreams on hold to make sure she is always there for her. Losing their Mum broke both their hearts and Nora closed hers off from that moment on.
But when Libby suggests a holiday in the sleepy town of Sunshine Falls, Nora has no idea just how dramatically her life is about to change.
Charlie, a brilliant editor and Nora's nemesis is also in Sunshine Falls. They spar with one another deliciously and it quickly turns to flirtation, closely followed by lust. The last thing Nora wants is a small town clichéd romance, but sometimes the heart leads us down unexpected paths.
Truly romantic, truly believable and truly uplifting, I adored Book Lovers.
I just had to request this one and was so happy when I got approved! This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2022 and it did not disappoint!
‘When I want something, Nora. I don’t give up easily.’
I adore books written in the publishing world. Nora is a literary agent at the top of the game and has built a steadfast reputation for herself. Charlie is a top-notch editor, who creates bestsellers. After a botched meeting between these two a few years prior to the main storyline of the book, Nora declares Charlie as her nemesis. Nora’s past relationships always ended when her boyfriend went out of town to a small village and had a small town romance. She views herself as the evil city ex-girlfriend, who only exists as a plot point for someone else’s story.
‘And by you’ve seen me, you mean you’ve watched me.’
‘Of course I fucking do. I can’t stop. I’m always aware of where you are, even if I don’t look, but it’s impossible not to.’
Her sister, Libby, convinces Nora to take a month’s trip to stay in Sunshine Falls, a small town which was the setting of her previous successful book. One of the things I loved about this book was how much the sibling relationship played into it. Nora and Libby have been a bit distant recently and Libby is keeping something from her. Everything Nora does is for Libby, and this book is definitely for the older sisters! I really enjoyed their dynamic.
‘You do have me, Nora. I never stood a chance.’
I adore the small town trope, but I loved how this one turned it on its head, making the two big city characters fall for each other whilst in a small town. When Nora gets to Sunshine Falls, her heavily pregnant sister has made a list for Nora to complete, one of which is to go on two dates with locals. The issue is Nora can’t help but bump into Charlie over and over again. I loved Nora and Charlie’s relationship so much and their chemistry was insane. Charlie is the perfect male love interest and he says the right thing all the time. I really enjoyed seeing their relationship develop over the course of the novel and writing this makes me desperate to read it again!
‘If I had to pick one person to be in my corner, it’d be you. Every time. You take care of shit.’
I 100% recommend this one! Emily Henry has well and truly established herself as an automatic buy author for me!
Absolutely loved this book. I was thinking about it every time I had to put it down to do something. It was so refreshing to have the little twists and turns on the more well know/used tropes. Loved Nora and all round generally fab cast of characters.
After having read and loved Beach Read and You and Me on Vacation I was HIGHLY anticipating this new release by Emily Henry.
And, You guessed it, I adored this book just as much as the other two. The witty banter and chemistry between Charlie and Nora was impeccable. All the dialogues in this book were really just perfection and made me giggle more than once. As a massive bookworm, I also loved all the references to tropes and seeing the behind the scenes of making a book.
Also, like Nora, I too flick to the end of books more often than not and so I appreciated that a lot haha (don't even ask, I seriously don't know why I've started doing this)
Very highly recommend this book and any other by Emily Henry, an auto-buy author without a doubt for me now!
Thank you to NetGalley, the Publisher and Emily Henry for providing me with an ARC of this novel
I absolutely love Emily's work and this was no exception.
Charlie is such a perfect book boyfriend and I love a small town romance
