I enjoyed Book Lovers and it was great to read a book about people who love books! The references to other books was nice and Emily Henry does really well at making her writing funny and relatable. Definitely would recommend to romance fans.
couldn't put it down. i loved the characters, nora, charlie, and libby. the relationship between nora and her sister was so well written, nora trying to be like a mum to her bc that's all she knows, while libby just wanted a sister. and nora and charlie <3 there was attraction, communication, respect, i loved them!
thank you penguin and netgalley for this ARC, and i will definitely buy this book for our bookstore. it's one of my fav reads this year!
This book grabbed me from the first few pages and I couldn't put it down. Still reading at midnight and had 6 am start the following morning. I got so invested in the characters and their lives.
Don't want to give away any spoilers but kept my fingers crossed for a good outcome at the end.
I LOVED this book and genuinely didn’t want it to end. I held off reading the last few chapters just so I could hold on to the characters a little longer. I loved all the characters in the book and the story wove together past and present seamlessly. I could imagine myself walking around the town and maybe even living in that community. Equally Nora was just as likeable, even as a city shark!
Genuinely wonderful sorry that reminds us that we all have someone who is a match for us
I'm going to first of all say that not only do I not usually enjoy romance (not a book snob thing, it's just not my genre of choice) but, on the rare occasion I do read it, enemies-to-lovers is my least favourite trope. So when I say that I loved this book, I really really mean it!
The small town setting is pleasingly not-too-cliche (and full of belly laugh moments, such as the name of the bar/restaurant) and I loved the character of Nora: a spiky New Yorker who, refreshingly, fails to fall for the charms of said small town. The romance between literary agent Nora and book editor Charlie was adorable, but strongest of all was the relationship between Nora and her sister. I think, for me, that's what elevated this above other romances, as the protagonists familial relationships were as important (if not more so) than her romantic relationships.
I devoured Book Lovers in 3 hours on a sun lounger while on holiday, and it's the perfect summer read. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
Ah what can I say about Book Lovers that hasn’t already been said… I loved it so much and never wanted it to end 😍
As cheesy as it may sound, Emily Henry writes books for book lovers, it’s as simple as that. Her stories tick all the boxes: brilliant characters, amazing writing, witty dialogue and fantastic settings - what more could you possibly need!
Book Lovers’ leading lady, Nora, initially seems like the anti-heroine of the story; she’s the ice-cold literary agent with no heart, who scoffs at the absurdity of some of the most beloved book tropes and the terribly cliché way in which she’s just been dumped, therefore you’d be mistaken for thinking she’s unlikeable but she absolutely is not. We quickly get to see that there is so much more to Nora and that she has a big heart. I love her character so much. She is the kind of person that you would want in your corner, always.
When Nora’s work nemesis, Charlie, ends up in Sunshine Falls at the same time as Nora, they can’t help but bump into each other, especially as they are now working on the same book. But neither of them sees the plot twist coming and what follows is a heartwarming story with brilliant banter and palpable chemistry.
If you haven’t already guessed, this is a definite 5 star read for me, just like Beach Read was. Emily Henry has very quickly inserted herself onto my must-read/auto-buy author list, as I’m sure she has for so many others. Loved it!
A great rom-com book - witty, funny with some emotional depth and likeable characters. The best bit of the book was how the author made inside jokes about the romance writers and readers. The second half didn’t work quite as well for me as I felt that the drama was a little forced.
That said, you like Emily Henry's previous work (especially Beach Read), this one will be a pleasant read. 3.5* to 4*.
Also, look out for some Easter eggs in this one. You will find some familiar names from the author's previous work!
Thanks to #NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of the book.
I missed all the furore over the earlier books so when this one came up I thought I'd get in early and see what all the fuss was about. I love finding new to me authors, especially when they have a back catalogue I can then go and pillage!
Nora is a book agent, she'll do anything for her authors. She treats them like siblings essentially, making sure they get the best deal she can wangle. She is also a helicopter sister.
Her client Dusty latest book is a small-town romance and it gets bypassed by Charlie, the latest hotshot Editor. But a few years later the book is on bestseller lists everywhere and it's now becoming a movie. With the movie set in Sunshine Falls, Nora's younger sister wants a girls trip. One with no babies to care for and a chance to recharge her batteries. Nora and Libby are direct opposites when it comes to loving books - Nora needs to know there is a HEA and Libby doesn't even want to know the tropes - she just dives in!
Charlie is also in town but will he and Nora have a meet-cute, trope-filled romance or will they end up in the reject pile?
An entertaining mix of sibling love, book love and finding love in unexpected places. For all Nora and Charlie have in common, they are such different characters. Their chemistry was good and I enjoyed all the bookisms they shared. I loved watching their ice melt! I'll definitely go back and read the other books now.
𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: small town, enemies to lovers, slow burn, forced proximity
I loved this book and from the very first chapters I sensed that it will receive 5 stars. Honestly, this book made me want to read more books by Emily Henry.
Nora is a character that some older sister can relate to. She is complex, funny, hard working, and who always thinks of her sister's well-being.
Charlie is a tough guy at first, but after meeting him, you discover that he has a sweet soul. He was always there when Nora was not feeling well emotionally, and when Nora found out the truth about her sister, he was with her, holding her tightly in his arms.
It took the two of them long enough to get together, given that they were both trying to reject the relationship on the pretext that they were "working partners."
I really recommend this book, and I don't think you'll let it go until you find out Nora and Charlie's story.
This was a delightful story, full of great characters and an appealing storyline. IUt is about two sisters whose father left them and whose mother died young. Books play a large part in the story as do editors and agents. The story treally plays on your heartstrings and the conclusion is all you could wish for.
I absolutely adored this book so much. I went into the book without much knowledge about the story except for the fact that the two main characters worked in the book industry. The story written differently than her other book Beach read (which I also adored) but that was also what I liked about it. The main character Nora really went on a journey throughout the book and so did her sister and I loved seeing their relationship. I found it very funny that because the fact Nora works in the book industry she knows a lot of “basic” romance tropes and she always points them out which is funny to read in a romance. And also, the love interest works in the publishing industry so you saw a lot of their dynamic on professional stand points as they work on some projects together (not to be thought this is not a work place romance). I do enjoy this author’s writing style and way of telling a story a lot as this was now my second book I read by her and I loved it as much as the first.
Overall, I absolutely loved this book and I will now go read People we meet on vacation as I hadn’t read that one yet.
So this book was my first romance book and I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I requested this book it was purely because I knew the author was very popular and I wanted to try reading a romance genre of book. I wasn’t sure if I’d like romance genre but I see the hype now.
One thing that I really loved about this book was the story wasn’t just a romance story. While yes the book was an amazing romance story it also had a great story of family dynamics in it.
Nora is a relatable character as we read about her thoughts through the book. Emily Henry wrote about Nora’s anxiety in such a beautiful way it was believable and ultimately interesting to read about as we discover where it originates from.
I adored reading about Nora and Charlies relationship with their banter and chemistry as well as they’re journey through working in publishing. The publishing business is an area to which I loved reading about and will defiantly be looking for more book like this to read.
To make this review shorter I would recommend this book to anyone especially those who want a romance book with some depth and a lot of witty interactions
P.S In terms of TW/CW I can’t think of any major ones but plz let me know if you do and I’ll add them
Rating;
4.5 stars
Nora Stephens has dealt with enough romantic comedies to know her life cannot be one. She's too ambitious and loves her job as a literary agent in New York too much to even think about moving to a small town and marrying a pig farmer. And yet, she finds herself unable to say no when her little sister asks to go on a summer trip to Sunshine Falls, and her carefully constructed narrative starts to fall down thanks to the presence of Charles Lastra. Maybe she can actually get a happy ending this time.
I was slightly confused in the beginning of this book, as I could not for the life for me figure out what Charlie and Nora's relationship was supposed to be. Sure, they were coworkers, but their familiarity threw me off. However, as soon as I got through that initial confusion the book was so good! It's not as centred on the romance as I expected in the beginning, which was an awesome surprise. There's secondary characters that actually get development! Nora's relationship with her sister was a big focus of the story, awkward at times and pretty realistic. Their shenanigans were hilarious, though I don't know how Nora managed to put up with Libby's antics sometimes.
The ending of this book was also incredibly satisfying. I loved how Nora was confident enough in herself to know she shouldn't give up her life and her goals for some dude, despite her having the awful pressure that is often put on women to live for others. Even though she knew people might perceive her as too rigid and "unfun", she was sure of the way she wanted to live her life. It was a big deal throughout the story, the way she had already given up so much in the name of being helpful, and I actually doubted whether the author would give this story the "correct" ending, but I never should have questioned her judgement because she did it in the best way possible.
If you're interested in the things that tend to be relegated to the sidelines of a love story, rather than just having the protagonist think about how in love they are all the time, this is the book for you. It's funny, with sometimes-frustrating characters, and a lead truly worth getting invested in.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Book Lovers by Emily Henry was such a fun read, light hearted , clever and sweet. It tells the story of Nora, a cut throat literary agent at the top of her game who has just been dumped , yet again by a boyfriend who travelled out of town and ended up falling for the baker/librarian/ farmer/cafe owner / small town job of your choice. To have it happen once might be sad but okay , but having it happen for a third time is making her seriously question her future. When her very pregnant little sister suggests a get away for them both to the small town setting of her favourite book, whose author just happens to be one of Nora's clients, Nora reluctantly agrees. The last thing she expected to find when they arrived in Sunshine Falls, North Carolina is her work nemesis, Charlie, a ruthless editor who has rubbed Nora the wrong way since their first encounter. As she and her sister try to enjoy their break , she keeps on running into Charlie , and the rest is simply fate, though its not without few bumps along the way.
I really loved the idea of a book about a woman like Nora, who represents the women men date before meeting the One in so many romcoms on the page or on the screen, it was interesting to subvert the trope and turn it on its head. Both Nora and Charlie were well rounded and believable characters , and I also loved Libby, Nora's little sister and their sibling relationship.
Emily Henry has done it again, highly recommended.
I read and reviewed an ARC courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher, all opinions are my own.

I loved this book! 'Book Lovers' had an excellent storyline, lovable characters and was so well-written. I actually laughed out loud on numerous occasions when reading which is rare for me!! Nora is a brilliant character and I want to read a thousand books from her perspective. I struggled to read the last few chapters because I couldn't see through my tears, especially when Libby was leaving. So for me: laughing throughout + crying at the end = a wonderful book worth the read. I will be recommending this to as many people as possible.
Thank you to Netgalley and Penguin for this Advanced Reading Copy in exchange for an honest review.

I mean, who here does not know of Beach Read? You could not escape the fricking book! I never made the connection that this was the author of A Million Junes, which I was planning on picking up at some point anyway, until it was pointed out in a review. But seeing the approval of NetGalley in my inbox was the gift the book gods (quoting the protagonist here) knew I needed!
Where do I start? The dialogue? The chemistry? The fact that this is about book lovers (spoiler's in the title, and we bookfolk appreciate that sort of thing).
I think what mostly drew me in was the fact that it had so many relatable moments. Not a relatable character per se. But when Nora or Charlie or Clint or pretty much every other character said something, I was like "Yes!" "My exact thoughts!" "Oh I've been there!" "I've done that!" and other overexlamatory half- sentences leading to over-the-top reactions that I should not bore you with.
My second 5- star of the year, and I left another five half-read books aside for this and finished it in basically 24 hours, so you get the picture.
Off to buy more Emily Henry books, do yourself a favour and pick this up if you like reading about romance, family, aspirational women and relationships going great and not-so-great.
I really enjoyed this shamelessly romantic novel. Nora is a dedicated literary agent with no time in her life for a life partner. Charlie Lastra is a brooding editor from the city. Neither should be taken by the other but …….
Nora is taken in hand by her sister and is persuaded to go on holiday with her to Sunshine Falls - the setting for one of her writer’s books - to experience small town life and to undertake a series of life changing challenges.
I loved the developing relationship and enjoyed learning the back stories of both characters.
The minor characters were equally satisfying.
A book I will be recommending.
I don’t often laugh out loud while reading a novel, but I did with Book Lovers. This was the first book of Emily Henry’s that I’ve read but I’m now looking forward to getting her others. A perfect romance. I loved it.
REVIEW: Magic book. I wasn't expecting liked it so much. Usually, I find it difficult to give 5 stars to romcoms, but this one got to my little heart.
I love books, and stories around books, libraries, enemies to lovers, I feel like these are the best ingredients, and the writing is special. The characters were like family.
It's my first book of the author and I really hope it won't be the last.
This book is pure magic.
I don’t know how else to describe it.
The emotions were so raw and real. I loved the way the relationship progressed and that there wasn’t a miscommunication trope. I loved their love. Ugh.
Thanks to Netgalley, Penguin, and Emily Henry for this copy. I’m incredibly honored to have been chosen to review this book!
