Could not put this book down!
I absolutely loved the idea of the whole book and the setting of small town Sunshine Falls. The main characters Nora and Charlie get off to a bit of a rocky start but some time later, they find themselves in a shared situation and have to make the most of it This is such a good book for bookworms too, with the bookshop location as well as Nora and Charlie’s jobs.
I laughed out loud at Book Lovers, but also cried as well. Really, this book had a bit of everything in it. It was so good I wanted to read it again immediately after I finished it.
Just when you think she can’t possibly do it again, Emily Henry proves you wrong!
I adore the characters in this book!
Ever wonder what happens to the women who are jilted for warmer, country versions of themselves? Well Nora is one of these women…boyfriends have gone on work trips and decided never to return, snacking up instead with another woman.
Nora lives for her work of agenting books and for her little sister who she has looked out for since their mother died.
But do women like Nora ever get their own happily ever after?
This book starts off good and just gets better. Nora and Charlie will tug at your heartstrings and leave you wrung out!
An absolutely stunning read, these characters will stay with me for a long while.
Loved this! From start to finish, it had me gripped. It’s such a fabulous beach book read. The characters are likeable, and it’s sizzling hot. It’s very well written, and I can’t wait for Henry’s next novel now!
Thank you to Penguin General UK - Fig Tree, Hamish Hamilton, Viking, Penguin Life, Penguin Business, Penguin and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review.
This book is utter perfection. But, as we learn from reading it, it’s perfect to me. I wasn’t under the impression that I needed it, but this book gave solace; it made me feel as validated as ever; it made me laugh; it made me cry.
Nora is a true New Yorker at heart who has settled into her life as an agent in the publishing industry. The one motivating force between everything that she does is her younger sister Libby who all of a sudden wants them to spend a month in a small town in the middle of nowhere, North Carolina. Very serendipitously, it’s the hometown of Charlie, a book editor Nora had crossed paths with two years prior.
The banter was insane. It was funny, smart and flirty.
I back every single one of the author’s choices. It was so great to read the characters thinking in and speaking about book tropes, very validating for all avid readers out there.
As someone who reads a lot, I’ve always been jealous of what authors can do with their words; Emily Henry was able to eloquently and beautifully put into words what I can hardly even grasp inside the confines of my own mind.
It was touching, romantic, sweet and everything in between. Again, it made me smile, it made me sob and it made me laugh though tears.
This book lover recommends.
I've always heard that term, 'I inhaled this book' and I thought, oh really, you can do that, huh? And then when I was up at 3am in the morning, I realised, I think this is what they mean by breathing a book in because, this book gives you life.
I love these characters, I think Nora is the cynical and slightly jaded person I would be after being broken up with after so many business trips turned Hallmark movies, and Charlie is a great love interest who can read Nora like a book, no pun intended, well maybe. This also applies to the relationship Nora has with her sister, which is just such a lovely bond in this book and reminiscent sometimes of my own.
The setting is perfect, the plot is captivating and that ending, I feel emotionally at sea right now after finishing this, but I am so glad this was my first Emily Henry read, because now I get to read all of the other books before hopefully the next slice of joy is released into the world.
All the rumours are true, this book is so good and if you love romance, go read this, this is like a library, a book lover's paradise.
5*
Once again, Emily Henry does not dissapoint. This book was and had everything that I felt was missing from Beach Read. The mc Nora is the perfectly likable-unlikable heroine I think most of us relate too. She´s so afraid to relax, let herself go, disappoint others, and to be quite honest, live. But when she meets her biggest enemy, who finds a way to push all her buttons, everything changes. Charlie challenges Nora, he comforts her which finally allows Nora to breathe. Its almost like her body has been running on autopilot ever since her mother died. Stuck in the same pattern of raising her sister, working, same daily habits in the city, and never room for any rest or life. When she arrives in Sunshine Falls, everything is turned upside down, for better and for worse. I absolutely loved this city. If there is one fictional town I´d want to visit, the small rual town in North Carolina easily tops the list.
This book is written for the older sisters, the sisters who have their noses stuck in a book, aching for academic validation, the anxious older sister.
Writing, plot, characters, setting, dialogue, smut, everything is executed so well, in typical Emily Henry style. It´s easy to follow and hard to put down, just as a good book should be.
Thank you Emily and Penguin!
Once again Emily Henry did not disappoint. I'm not sure what she puts into her books but I devour every single one. I somehow also relate to all of her protagonists?
Nora was a brilliant main character, we see her grow throughout the book but she also doesn't change herself to suit anyone the way we see with characters sometimes, she just improved on how she already was which I appreciated.
I will be picking up a paperback copy for my shelves and would purchase one for a friend.
Thank you for this e-ARC!
Book Lovers was a highly anticipated read for me this year after reading Emily Henry's other books. This was such a cute, easy, light-hearted read which made me smile the whole time, whilst still being able to deal with some deeper topics like grief in Nora's life. The banter between Nora and Charlie and their easy chemistry made this book so enjoyable and page-turning. I read this book so quickly, and it was the perfect read to get me out of my reading slump.
This book was so highly advertised as "enemies-to-lovers" and I really didn't feel that in this novel. Even Nora and Charlie's first meeting was less rivals, and more just two angsty people having an awkward interaction, and any "rivalry" got resolved within the first like 5 chapters of this book.
Regardless, I would definitely recommend this read to anyone looking for a light, fun romance and I really enjoyed it!
Thank you Penguin UK and NetGalley for the eArc.
This book is what contemporary enemies to lovers should be! Story that is believable, characters that are flawed and human and banter. Give me banter and I'm happy!
Seriously, I loved this, I kept on looking forward to reading the next chapter. Emily has plotted this story and developed these characters to perfection. At one part of the book I'll admit I caught myself judging, "how can this be?", and then I realised I am in Nora's problem. After all the books I have read I see topes everywhere, I anticipate them. While this book will give you what you expect, and while I did see it coming, the author made sure I waited, made sure I soaked up all the amazing healing these sisters go through, all the growth, before I'm rewarded.
This couple is now officially one of my favourites in modern romance; banter, tension, attraction was palpable, the slowburn delicious, its amazing to read about adults and I enjoyed every second of it. Would read it again, and I just finished it.
Adorei a Nora.
!! Foi-me cedida uma cópia avançada deste livro em troca de uma opinião honesta.
📚BOOK LOVERS 📚
Review - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Did I finish my E-ARC of this and immediately go out and buy the hardcopy? Yes, yes I did and I am not sorry.
THIS BOOK 😍😍😍
I loved it.
I loved that Nora was exactly who she was and she never apologised for it. She was a TOTAL BOSS and I love that her high maintenance-ness and her impractical shoes are celebrated.
As a high maintenance woman with a love for impractical shoes it was hugely refreshing and generally a lot of fun.
But the BANTER in this book. I was hysterical. Both between Nora and her sister, Libby and Nora and Charlie (who was simply *chef's kiss*). Oh it was so good.
And special mention has to be made of Poppa Squats which reminded me SO much of the dingy bar/night club my friends and I frequented in our hometown in my teenage years.
Sweet and steamy and hilarious - A must read!!
Thanks to @netgalley and @penguinbooks for the ARC
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin for this eARC of Book Lovers in return for an honest review.
Emily Henry you've done it again!!! What an amazing and unique idea to tell the retell the classic small town love story trope from the side of the other girl!! This book is brilliant, it had me hooked from the first couple of pages and I could not put it down. I was invested in Nora and Charlie's love story from the time they first (despite how terrible it went) meet each other. This love story was written for the book lovers, it is absolute perfection. The character development of Nora, Charlie and Libby feel realistic and relatable, especially as the eldest sibling myself, I found it very easy to relate to the some of the struggles Nora faced. I cannot recommend this book enough, it will not disappoint!!!
“Some books you don’t read so much as live, and finishing one of those always makes me think of ascending from a scuba dive.”
I’ve tried to put into words how Emily Henry’s books make me feel before, and I think that once again, I’ll just have to borrow her words. Book Lovers is everything that I hoped for, and more. It is, like all other Emily Henry works of art, a love letter to finding not just romance, but also yourself after tragedy and healing. Without getting too personal, the way Henry writes about grief has always been something that resonates deeply with me. Whether that’s through January, Alex, June (from A Million Junes), and now, through Nora. At times, it feels like reading old journal entries, at times, it feels like being known and understood. We often talk about the mortifying ordeal of being known and being perceived, but it isn’t embarrassing at all. It feels like coming home. It feels like comfort. It feels like knowing that you’re not the only one out there with these feelings, this hurt, this loneliness — this indescribable thing called grief. Henry’s books feel a little bit like a lifejacket, a little like a flicker of light in the dark, a hand holding yours and reminding you you’re not alone. Grief is as much of a character as Nora and Charlie are, and for that, I’m grateful.
Nora Stephens is simply refreshing. She’s driven and ambitious as a means of survival, cutthroat and shark-esque because she’s had no other choice but to be that way. To others, she might appear cold and detached, but she’s anything but. Nora’s just a result of her circumstances. Her character arc was so relatable, and I loved how her work ethic and passion was never something she was ashamed of. Reading about Nora following her own dreams, and finally putting herself first was simply heartwarming. But most of all, I loved how Nora came to realize that loving people doesn’t necessarily mean fixing their problems. Sometimes, you just have to be there.
Charlie and Nora are truly two sides of the same coin. Both of them are products of their environment, and appear to be cold, emotionless, and snarky when they’re truly anything but. They love fiercely, and care so much about the people in their lives. I genuinely loved Charlie and Nora together. It’s rare that you find two characters who feel so genuine and tangible, who love each other so much that they’re willing to give the other person up for their own happiness. Even now, I’m sitting here beaming, thinking about their love. The way Henry writes banter and pining is simply unmatched, and I found the two of them to be so charming. They truly understood each other, and their motivations — it’s why they’re such a good pair. I really liked how they opened up to one another, and how they affirmed and supported each other. From their initial emails to their eventual relationship, I just absolutely loved them.
Book Lovers is a romance about Nora and Charlie, but there is just as much love between Nora and her sister, Libby, as there is anyone else. Part eldest daughter, part pseudo-partner to her mother, Nora has always put her family’s needs above hers. At no point was Nora resentful about giving up her dreams for her sister, nor was Libby presented in an ‘ungrateful’ manner. Even when the two of them were upset with one another, there wasn’t a particular “villain”. It was just something they had to work through, and communicate about.
I was so charmed by the small town of Sunshine Falls, and its residents, and would definitely read books about them all. I also just loved the little name drops to Beach Read and January Andrews, cementing the Emily Henry Literary Universe (hereby referred to as EHLU). I think it’s a testament to Henry’s writing that I knew exactly what would happen and how Book Lovers would end, yet I still teared up when I reached the epilogue. Book Lovers is truly a gem, and I wait with bated breath at what she will release next.
A must read for all book lovers.
I really enjoyed the spin of this book, the idea of following a different character than expected from the usual tropes is a really clever and different direction that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Nora could be classed as a 'flawed' character but is still loveable, powerful and admirable and is a great character to follow with many sides to her personality she is a character that I found myself desperate to know more about.
The book is pitched as an enemies to lovers romance. I would dispute how much of an 'enemy' Charlie was and I felt their initial meeting could have had a little more angst. I actually felt a connection with them instantly so not quite enough of an 'enemy' for me to put in in this trope but it defiantly fits a beautifully written, well developed romance.
The perfect book for anyone seeking a few hours of escape!
"Book Lovers" is an adult romance following Nora and Charlie. The book isn't that long, but it still took me a while to read it, since I couldn't really get into the story.
After her boyfriend had been gone traveling for work, Nora gets a heartwrenching call one day from him, telling her that he's changed and will be staying there to help his new love with her life. Even though this was terrible news, she wasn't that surprised after reading so many romance books where the love interest leaves their current relationship for a new person. But it still broke her, and to make it worse, it was also the day when she had an important meeting with a guy named Charlie.
Years after the incident, she kept on running into Charlie, even though she couldn't stand his guts, but maybe there's something about him?
This book was a nice read. I couldn't really feel for the characters though and the story took me a while to get into, but regardless, it was a good book.
Regardless, this story is a really fun and nice read. I definately would recommend this to people looking for a new romance book, especially for people who have given up on love.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
If there’s one book to read amongst others this summer it’s this.
I absolutely loved this book.
It’s the story of Nora, an editor whose very strict working in New York. Her sister, Libby wants to go on holiday before she gives birth, to a small town called Sunshine Falls, and Nora she says she’ll go.
Once they are there, Nora finds one of her editing co-workers, Charlie is also there, they’ve not got on in the past. It was interesting to see how they both rehash the relationship to become friends, and maybe more than that.
I loved the chitchat between Nora and Charlie, and see their relationship grow as the story progressed. To see how Nora finds out more about herself and about her relationships with her sister Libby and Charlie was lovely.
I would highly recommend this book for readers who’ve read and loved Emily past books, and also those who love reading a good romance book.
If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.
I’ve been waiting to read this book since August last year and my expectations were high, especially because Emily Henry is my favourite writer. And Book Lovers definitely didn’t disappoint.
I have no idea what Emily Henry puts in her books, but they are MAGIC.
I connected to this book so much and I can hardly put it in words how much I loved it. Lovable characters, funny banter, the small-town romance and on top of it, Emily Henry’s writing style, which is just beautiful. The story was funny, intriguing, but also very heart-breaking. Not only that it has amazing romance, but also beautiful friendship between Nora and her sister. You really connect with all the characters, trying to understand their fears and I truly want to give them all a hug.
If you’re more on the soft side, get ready for some tears, because I shed … a lot of them.
This book definitely goes to my top 5 books of all time, right next to Beach Read.
A very easy read that puts a slightly different spin on the concept of a romance novel, principally that the characters acknowledge they are trying to follow the path of a romance novel trope. Following? If you’re looking for an easy read and like light hearted, mildly funny romance then definitely give this a read. I think I’m in the minority but none of Emily Henry’s books have wowed me, they’ve been nice but just okay and this one was another one of the same. Enjoyed reading it but nothing to write home about.
Ever since I read Emily Henry’s first book I knew I’d be hooked and love all her books.
Book Lovers kept that statement true.
I thoroughly enjoyed and devoured this book in under 24 hours and as always, was left wishing I’d made it last longer!
Nora, a literary agent, believes she’s cursed by the love gods to always be the woman that left for another in that classic trope of ‘man goes on business trip with one mission, but falls for local girl who also convinces him to change his mission & ultimately his whole way of life which includes dumping the workaholic girlfriend back home’.
Her sister Libby decides they both need to get away for a month, to one of those typical remote towns that all those love stories happen in - specifically one which her client based a book on - and she’s going to make her sister check off all the typical chick-lit small towny things.
Nora agrees as she thinks it’ll help the close the distance she’s felt with her sister and after all, this will be the first vacation she’s had in years.
Sunshine Falls is pretty much what she was expecting. She just could never have predicted she’d bump into Charlie, the famously testy editor, who actually said he didn’t like the book that was set in the very same town.
Reading Nora and Charlie’s relationship blossom & bloom with the will they/won’t they moments - some very steamy moments - heart pulling moments was beautiful!
I really love these two characters and their chemistry!
Emily has once again got everything so so right, even down to the perfect ending for our non-typical heroine!
Book lovers will just adore Book Lovers by Emily Henry.
Warm, very funny and with great characters, this would be perfect to read whilst on holiday, sipping a cocktail!
Although the ending was predictable, it did not stop me racing through the chapters to get there.
With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
