This is the second book that I read by Emily Henry. I was not a big fan of Beach Read but I was quite excited about Book Lovers and I wanted to give her another chance!

The prologue caught my attention straight away! But, unfortunately, it didn’t last very long.

I have nothing against Nora and Charlie, their personalities and their relationship, in fact, I think they are cute. It is just that I couldn’t connect with any of them, and even when their backstories were introduced, I didn’t really care enough. So for me it became just another romance novel.

I also found Libby, Nora’s sister, quite annoying. I thought their relationship was irritating, that they both had exasperating behaviours like meddling too much in each other lives (especially Libby) or mentioning quite often how hard her life was with two children and another one on the way. Condoms, Libby, condoms. No one is forcing you to have another baby if you are already short with time and tight with money.

I know that Emily Henry is a lot of people’s favourite writer, so I am starting to think that the problem is mine!

Even so, 2.5/5⭐

I loved this so much! Emily Henry builds characters with realistic backstory and emotional depth. She takes the typical tropes of the genre and plays with them. Subverts them. It makes for a true, raw read that doesn’t shy away from real life issues.

I cried at the end. I really couldn’t see exactly which way it was going to go. But it was perfect and made total sense! Easily 5 stars. Can’t wait for the next Emily Henry!

Fabulous from first page to the last. If you are looking for one book to read on the sun lounger this summer this is it. Absolute romance perfection

Smart, funny and full of warmth. Possibly her best yet and definitely a one sitting read. Emily Henry is a brilliant talent.

I was so excited to read this book. It was one of my most anticipated releases for 2022. And I love Emily Henry, so my expectations were high. And let me tell you, she did not disappoint at all.

I loved every little piece of this novel. It was lovely, poignant, charming, and moving. One of the things I love most about Emily's books is that they're never just about romance. She knows how to mix meaningful issues and a love story so perfectly that it is impossible not to be touched by it.

Her writing is so well-done. The story flows and deepens along with the character's growth so smoothly and perfectly that it's so easy and natural to connect with them. In every new chapter, we relate to them and see them in a new light.

I loved Nora and Charlie. Their growth and development were exceptional. They're perfect for each other, and I love they're imperfect. I've always loved that about Emily's character. They are realistic, human, relatable, and perfectly imperfect.

Also, I loved Nora and Libby's relationship and journey. It was moving, relatable, and beautiful. It's not usual to see solid and healthy sister relationships in books, so I loved it.
Honestly, I recommend this book to everyone. It was phenomenal, beautiful, and touching. Please, read it.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a free copy for an honest review.

If a book could be described as a warm hug this would be it and I really enjoyed reading.

A story about loving books, sisterly bonds and the magic that can be found in small town America.

I'll be the first to admit that I liked Emily Henry's previous books but didn't exactly connect with them. But Book Lovers is the first book in a long while that's made me want to analyse every little thing that happens. The characters are so deep I can't even begin to describe how incredible it was to read. I can't even say I relate to Nora or Charlie but it is written so well that I could understand them and feel how they were feeling.

Honestly I liked everything about it. It is not overly dramatic (big plus!) and the chemistry of the lead characters is spot on, whether romantic or familial.

Book Lovers is a very balanced read, it's got its depth and sadder parts but these are complemented by lighter, loving moments. If you want to read a book about hot book nerds defying the very tropes they read about then give Book Lovers a go!

This story follows Nora, a New York literary agent, who is convinced by her sister to spend a month away in Sunshine Falls, North Carolina. There she bumps into an old nemesis from the New York book world and end up having to work together to edit a book.
Everything worked so well in this book - I have read Emily Henry before and found them enjoyable but not always memorable. Book Lovers is quite the opposite! All the characters were well rounded and believable and I loved all the banter between Nora and Charlie. Highly recommend!!

Wow another 5 star read for this fantastic author. Nora is a literary agent living her life like she is in a romance book, though she isn't the heroine but the woman the hero leaves behind. This has happened enough times already to know what to expect but it doesn't mean it hurts any less.
After her latest break up her sister Libby, propose they go to an adventure, on a small town that was the inspiration for the latest best selling book of the year, where they could live a real book storyline.
The last person Nora expects to see there is Charlie, a book editor and her work nemesis just strolling around town. One too many encourages bring them closer but that doesn't mean anything, Nora is not the girl the hero chooses after all.
This book feels like a love letter to books and to book lovers. The plot was truly amazing with many witty remarks along the way that made me laughing out loud more than once. The book within a book plot worked perfectly. Fantastic.

This one snuck up on me a little. I thought it would be a lovely story filled with book references for book lovers like me and it was but it was also funny, sad, relatable and emotional as one should expect from an Emily Henry novel. I loved Libby and Nora. A different love story between sisters which was rooted in history, shared loss and compromise, was not always easy but ultimately always filled with love .

Slowly but surely Nora and Charlie worked their way under my skin. I loved how right they felt together, how they found this person who could really truly see them and understand them, who loved their prickly “difficult” parts and made it easy. The irony that it took these two people ending up in a place where they didn’t really fit to find the person they belonged with was *chefs kiss. Loved it (5 ⭐️).

Thanks to Penguin and Netgalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for a review.

I'm afraid I'm very much in the minority and didn't enjoy this at all.

How does Emily Henry keep getting better and better at writing the exact book I need before even I know I would need it? I don't even know if that first sentence makes any sense, because I'm still simply too overwhelmed by this book. Oh my god, it was just spectacular and amazing and perfect.

Nora is a tough-as-nails literary agent in New York with a disastrous track record when it comes to relationships. In fact, she's getting dumped by phone by her latest boyfriend, right before she's meeting with Charlie, an editor with a reputation for turning good manuscripts into pure gold. And he knows he's good. Needless to say, they don't hit it off. Fast-forward to August and Nora's sister Libby convinces her to go on vacation with her to the small town that inspired a bestseller written by one of Nora's clients. Nora, the exact opposite of a small-town girl, isn't thrilled but she has always done her best to make Libby happy. So off they go to this small town in the middle of nowhere where nobody knows them. Except that guy in the coffee shop does look a lot like Charlie...

A small-town enemies-to-lovers romance with complicated family relationships, featuring a snarky main character who falls for the grumpy-by-circumstances love interest? It's like Emily Henry took all the top-tier romance tropes, poured them into a witch's cauldron, and one hocus pocus abracadabra spell (aka months of writing) later: voilà, the perfect romance novel.

Charlie might actually be the best love interest of any romance novel I've read up to date. He's just so swoony. And he completely gets who Nora is, and he loves her for who she is. She's shocked people in the publishing business see her as a shark with blood dripping from her teeth, and meanwhile there's Charlie all but shouting from the rooftops how he has the hots for sharky Nora. I just couldn't resist him (and neither could Nora).

I love the amount of literary references. It might seem quite obvious to include some when your main characters are both in publishing, but at times it seemed like the references in this book come at a rate of about 5 per page. It would actually be a fun challenge to read all the books and authors mentioned in this book, but I'm guessing you'd need a year or so to complete the challenge.

It's not going to be easy for Emily Henry to outdo herself with the next book. That's what I thought after Beach Read and then People We Meet On Vacation proved me wrong. And I said the same thing after PWMOV and now Book Lovers has shown me once again how wrong I was. Frankly, at this point the only thing I'm certain about is that Emily Henry owns me. Plain and simple.

I requested this book having loved Emily Henry’s first two novels and I was not disappointed!

We follow Nora, a successful literary agent from New York who is convinced by her sister to take a month long trip to a sleepy North Carolina town which was the setting of one of her authors most successful books. But while there, rather than meeting a sexy lumberjack as her sister hopes she keeps running into her work nemesis Charlie.

This enemies to lovers tale is full of heart and once I started I couldn’t put it down! I especially loved the homage to books and reading and the impact that can have on your life. Three books in and Emily Henry is now a must read author for me and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone who asks!

This is a very gripping story that’s well told and enjoyable. I’d have loved to have started it at the start of a long train ride or lying on a beach somewhere.

The author’s insider take on the publishing industry elevated it above the standard romance tropes and gave it greater depth. Bits of it were a bit silly or unbelievable, but I really liked the characters and found I just didn’t really care about the small faults, I was completely hooked.

You know what happens when big city people go to a small town, right? They turn their back on their fancy ways, swap their designer clothes for a flannel shirt and shack up with the nearest lumberjack/vet/farmer and discover the real meaning of life... But what if you actually love the city and never want to leave?

Emily Henry's brilliant funny book plays on this trope, while adding in lots of fun literary references and creating two big city characters who are lovable, flawed and funny. I loved the banter between them as well as the rising tension. I was hugely invested in the characters and loved escaping into their world!

I had to sit with this one and just enjoy the warm hug that you get from reading one of Emily Henrys books before I wrote this. Opening the first page is instantly comforting, I absolutely love her writing style and find it so easy to instantly connect with all of her characters. There's always something relatable about the protagonists even though each are very different; Nora was such an interesting and complex character, I loved her ♥️ Her personal development throughout the book was actually one of my favourite parts, as it was so interesting to see her realising how the world saw her, and how she felt about that. And of course, learning that a book cannot be judged by its cover, or reputation 😉

Charlie was absolute perfection I cannot describe, banter immaculate, the dedication to his family and how he just completely understood Nora, 10/10 as always.

If you loved Beach Read, prepare yourselves because you will be OBSESSED with this one!!

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin for the ARC as always ♥️

I kid you not I thought I was broken. It's been a while since I've had a five star read that I didn't have to round up from a four star one, and I started to worry that maybe my expectations were just too high. In come Book Lovers. It was witty, funny, the banter between the characters had me laughing, the relationship developed so well throughout the book I'm now absolutely intent on marrying Charlie Lastra myself. I loved the sort of love-letter-to-big-city-life vibe that Nora's narration brought in, as a city girl myself I could really relate to that, and yet I also fell in love with Sunshine Falls and its residents. I loved the layers to both Charlie and Nora, their passion for work and I definitely related to her quite a bit! I loved how driven Nora was, and I just overall adored everything about this book!
