Oh I absolutely LOVED this one!
But I wasn't expecting anything less from Henry.
Complex, witty & full of heart.
That slow burn romance has sparks
literally flying off the page...
This HAS to be one of my favourite books I have read this year!!
It made me laugh, cry and squeal! The tension is off the charts, and the banter between the 2 main characters is so good!!
Nora is a book agent from New York. Its just her and her sister, who she adores. They have both had it hard growing up, which is why Nora feels so protective of her. She isn't afraid to go after what she wants, and herself through and through. She's super loyal, protective and even though she has a hard shell - she's gooey underneathI fell in love with Nora, and she might even be one of my favourite FMC yet.
Charlie. CHARLIE. I just love him. As soon as his grumpy, massive eyebrows where mentioned, I was a goner. He is super straight to the point with everything, and it no nonsense. Charlie also hasn't had the best time growing up.
While Nora and Libby, her sister, are on a month long small town vacation, Nora finds herself running into Charlie (who she does not like). Soon they spend more time together, and realise they are more similar than they thought.
This is the easiest 5/5 I have had to give. I know I'm going to reread this again, as I just fell in love with them. Emily writes these stories so well, I would honestly read anything by her!
Book Lovers is Emily Henry's third romance novel. Book Lovers is told in first person from Nora's POV. Nora is a literary agent and has a reputation for being a cold woman. Charlie is an book editor and has a gift creating bestsellers. Nora hasn't had much luck with men as she usually ends up being dumped. She works too much and her sister Libby decides they need to visit Sunshine Falls. It's a small town and Nora can't stop bumping into Charlie. This is definitely a good romance but it's not my favourite Emily Henry. It is being marketed as an rivals to lovers type romance but I didn't feel that they were true rivals/enemies. There was only one or two scenes were they didn't like each other. The writing was really good and I am sure this will be a bestseller. Emily Henry does have a talent for writing romance. A lot of the book focused on Nora and her relationship with her sister Libby and those parts bored me. Overall, I did enjoy this and it was a good romance, it's just I had high expectations for this after Beach Read and People We Meet On Vacation which I adored.
I smiled . I cried . This was perfect. I enjoyed Emily Henry’s first two books but Book Lovers was perfection to me. I don’t cry easily but I definitely welled up. Nora and Charlie were such a good couple and I loved the small town vibes. It was like Stars Hollow in literary form full of sisterly love, books, and lots of angsty romance ! Just ordered myself a copy ❤️
emily henry’s writing is great!
if you enjoyed beach read, you’ll definitely enjoy this.
i unfortunately wasn’t the biggest fan of you and me on vacation but this really pleasantly surprised me. the characters were great and the story was amazing and i can’t wait to read more of her books.
Thanks so much to @penguinukbooks and @netgalley for sending me over a digital proof in exchange for a review. I love this author so I was very happy to receive this 🥰
Synopsis:
Nora Stephens loves books. Her whole life is devoted to being one of the best literary agents in New York. However, she never seems to get her happy ending. She agrees to go to Sunshine Falls in North Carolina to spend time with her sister Libby who is desperate for time away from the kids. But when she arrives, she doesn’t expect to be constantly bumping into the obnoxious editor Charlie Lastra who turned down one of her clients books a few years before. It’s quite hard to hide in such a small town, and with the pair constantly being pulled together it could just be the start of something found in a book
Opinion:
Emily Henry is one of those authors that you know you’ll have a feel good read. This one didn’t let me down on that front however I couldn’t help but notice parallels between this book and Beach Read. Both novels have both characters working in books and have them meet out-with their regular city life where they usually despise each other and then have them work together and grow closer because of that. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the book but it just felt a little déjà vu. I loved the relationship between Nora and her sister and the sub plot of them added to their character. I adored the ending chapter and I loved how the characters ended up exactly where they should be. I wasn’t particularly interested in the epilogue as I didn’t feel like it added anything.
Overall, a lovely heartwarming novel by one of bookstagrams well loved romance authors. This is perfect for those who love a cliche small town romance with slow burn and work nemesis added to the mix ✨
I think this is Emily Henry's best book yet - Nora and Charlie are both so very well matched that it's impossible not to enjoy the sparks that fly between them. They push each other, they bicker and pull the best out of each other even on hard days and it was a joy to read!
The extended cast of characters was adorable too. It was great to see Nora and her sister Libby as an equally important relationship in the book and though they both annoyed me at times with the way they treat each other, the growth in their relationship over the course of the novel was great.
I yet again loved to see January just popping up in this book - Charlie is her editor! The focus on books and reading, escaping into a fictional world as well as mocking certain tropes, it made for a book that lives up to it's title.
I also loved that neither main character changed to male their relationship work -this felt realistic in the way that a lot of people have to make sacrifices and adjust to each other as opposed to a fairytale of changing everything you've ever wanted.
This book was a great next work from Emily Henry. This author has thoroughly demonstrated they know how to write a successful, enjoyable romance novel. I personally am not a romance reader, but I always enjoy Emily Henry's novels. I enjoyed the small town trope they used to develop the main characters, and the twist at the end was unexpected but welcomed.
Let's meet the leading lady and lad if this book
Nora is a literary agent who on the outside seems cut throat and strong, buy is insecure on the inside. Her who life is books - I can relate to this.
Charlie is an editor who has a number of bestsellers behind him. He is also Nora's work nemesis.
Noras sister has persuaded Nora to swap her desk for a months holiday in Sunshine falls which is a place that sounds absolutely idyllic. But what makes it not so idyllic is every where she goes she keeps bumping into Charlie.
This is a great feel good romantic storyline with a will they won't they storyline. It is also has a really great twist at the end that I didn't see coming.
I really really enjoyed this book. Nora was such a complex character, so insecure under the seemingly confident and glossy shark like figure.
Sunshine falls sounded glorious and the friendship that she developed with Charlie was really fun. I was so so so keen for them to realise that they would be perfect for each other.
I absolutely didn’t see the ending coming- a surprising twist from Libby, (Nora’s sister) but it made perfect sense.
I am shocked to say I loved this more than Beach Read and People we vacation with! Brilliant play on romance tropes. All the stars!
What a story. Nora a literary agent known as The Shark and Charlie a book editor clash on meeting.
This book is the best romance novel I have read in a very l9ng time.
It kept me on my toes from the start.
A real page turner.
wow wow wow!
This was my first ever Emily Henry book and it was defiantly an amazing place to start. Emily manages to create these deeply complex and emotive characters that you love but are also yelling at. I loved both the romantic relationship in this book as well as the sister dynamic. This book is perfect if you're looking for a cute, cozy summer romance :))
I put off reading this for a little while because I didn’t want it to end……I cannot believe these characters are the same. I love this book, the main characters in Nora and Charlie and all of their family. The humour hits the spot and I couldn’t help but laugh out loud at some of it.
Emily Henry, please write faster I want more from you.
I honestly cannot say more other than this is a must read for anyone who loves a romcom
This was the first book I've ever read from Emily Henry and it wont be the last. This book was a little slow in places but it was such a great read. I loved the banter between Nora and Charlie and I loved their intense connection. Charlie Lastra owns a piece of my heart after reading this book.
Book Lovers by Emily Henry
I give this book 5 stars
Nora has been through enough break-ups to know she's the woman men date before they find their happy-ever-after. Nora's sister has persuaded her to go on a month's holiday in Sunshine Falls, North Carolina. It's a small town straight out of a romance novel, but instead of meeting sexy lumberjacks, handsome doctors or cute bartenders, Nora keeps bumping into...Charlie.
Why did l want to read this ….well just look at the title!
It’s hard to imagine what more you could possibly want from this book.l fell in love with Nora and Charlie they were so likeable and felt real, l absolutely loved the setting and the plot..The authors writing style adds to my rating as it makes the story easy to get into and bingeable to read..Totally entertaining, amusing and fun this is the perfect feel good romantic comedy.
Fantastic Fiction !!!
With thanks to Netgalley,Emily Henry and 2

A really great story with a well thought out twist of making their story the book story. Liked the twists and turns along the way

Diverted and captivated
Why yes, you can read almost a whole book with a smile on your face
Samsies, not opposites
We all need that special book that sings to your heart, that takes you on a journey, that has characters with depth, dialogue to get lost in and banter (because who doesn’t need banter). Book Lovers is that book, with a good dollop of chemistry to add into the mix. For me, this is Henry’s best work to date, it is refined, whip-smart and utterly belieavable. It’s going to be in my top crop of books for the year for sure.
Nora the protagonist, was a fierce, almost frosty at first sight kind of woman but the story lets you see underneath immediately to her soft heart and those who are beloved by her. Nevertheless, Nora found herself typecast as heartless because she was so damn good at her job and was a workaholic. Charlie was the yin to her yin, because they were something of a mirror of one another. Who says it has to be opposites attact? We need a new trope of samsies!
"His eyes bore into me until there’s smoke lifting off my skin. I’m an ant beneath his sunlit magnifying glass, and then he looks away."
There was a strong sense of family in this book, the literal adventure Nora finds herself on with her sister Libby was mired in past sadness but also smattered with hope. These two and their sisterhood made for such a rich side story to the books and Charlie.
My highlight game was strong reading this book, so many lines, exchanges jumped off the page. I laughed, I even cried and absolutely loved how this book captured my imagination and took me to the places I wanted. It had feels, humour, great writing and dammit, I want to visit this backwater of a small town.
Thank you to Viking Books for the early review copy.
I wanted to adore this book, I adored You & Me on Vacation - it’s a constant recommendation and I applied for this read as soon as it came onto Netgalley.
Unfortunately it just didn’t have the same charm, if I’d never read the previous title I suspect I would have enjoyed it more.
The story, tension, the fulfilment at the end just wasn’t there for me. It started by trying to say ‘yes I know the cliché’s and aren’t they tiresome’ and then proceeded to fit right into them.
I’m truly gutted not be more positive - I absolutely loved her previous title and I just think maybe that was too good to follow with a similar ‘sexual tension’ storyline.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Berkley for sending me an ARC copy for this book in exchange for an honest review.
Sadly, this book was not for me.
This is my first time reading a book from this author but I felt very confident going into it that I was going to love it because of the previous hype around Emily's other 2 books as well as the premise of this one. The writing style did not mesh with me, and I will try and explain why.
I DNF'd this book at 27% in after forcing myself to even get that far; none of the characters or the relationships between them stuck out to me- none of them felt authentic or real. I did not care about any of the characters or what is going to happen to them, the writing did not elicit any emotion out of me other than boredom and dislike a few times. Now, I don't necessarily thing the writing is bad, but it was definitely not as exciting and engaging as I'm used to and I gave it a fair shot but you should not dread picking up a book and reading a single page so I choose to DNF to save myself the reading slump and misery.
