Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
Five half-siblings who share a father come together when the middle sister, Dimple, gets into a sticky situation that could land them all in prison. The setup is both dramatic and amusing and hooked me right into the story. The siblings only met once as children (apart from two with the same mother). Now they discover each other’s strengths and weaknesses as they support each other and come to terms with the fact that their father will never do the same. A fresh take on the family drama. I enjoyed reading this book. It had a cast of characters that were fresh, interesting, likable, and also refreshingly honest. I would say, some of the characters are more developed than others and I did want to hear from them a lot more- specifically the dad Cyril, Lizzie, and Nikisha. I loved how the author explored the theme of family, what it means to be family, and belonging. It was done in a layered way, it showcased that families are and can be toxic. Give this book a chance! REAd it.
I adored Queenie so was excited to read this one and was over-the-moon it was so good! Cyril has five children with four different women when he gets in touch with them and takes them to the park. As they've never met each other, it's an odd occurrence for all of them but soon we get a deeper glimpse into their lives. Later Dimple, a social media influencer has an altercation with boyfriend, Kyron and must call on her brothers and sisters to help her. With humor and depth, the book reveals many facets of the characters and how they cope with each other as well as Cyril and his mother. We see many sides of such an eccentric "family" and the ways they cope with one another, knowing it's anything but normal but coping all the same. You may laugh, you may cry, but you will leave this book feeling better for knowing these people!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
I loved this book so much! The characters were all fascinating and I found their relationships with each other to be relatable and engaging. It took me a long time to figure out/understand the tone of the book - I spent a lot of time wondering "is this supposed to be funny? Or suspenseful?"

After reading Queenie - I was very excited to read another novel from Candice Carty-Williams. Cyril Pennington never claimed to be a good father - with 5 children from 4 previous relationships, but the one day that he gathers all of his children for an afternoon was key to them finding each other again, relying on each other, and forming a relationship later on in their adulthood. The siblings are thrown into an unexpected and traumatic situation and choose to band together as a family and help each other - despite the dysfunctional moments and trouble they could all get into. All of the siblings are entertaining - I especially loved Nikisha as a character. People Person was surprisingly funny and definitely a bit of a roller coaster. Thank you to Scout Press/Gallery Books and NetGalley for the chance to read this novel.
This book focuses on the adult children of Cyril. Because they had different mothers, Cyril's children never really got to know each other. This changes when a 'dramatic event' forces the the 5 siblings to work together and get to know each other. There were places where the story seemed a little far-fetched and others where it seemed a little slow, but overall, I enjoyed this story of long lost siblings reconnecting. The characters were likeable especially because of their loyalty despite not barely knowing each other.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy in return for my honest review.
This is a story about 5 siblings being thrown together. Cyril, an absentee father, has 5 children with 4 different mothers and isn’t involved in any of their lives. As adults, the siblings come together for a dramatic event. The rest of the book focuses on that fallout from this event and the effects on their relationships.
Wow, this was so different from QUEENIE!
QUEENIE was one of my favorite books of 2019, and I was excited for a new title from this author. It's hard to tell from the description the exact direction this book takes, and it's definitely...weird. However, the siblings' connection was fun to see develop. I almost wish the subplot wasn't there and we just got to see them all get to know each other as adults.
