What She Found is the best yet of Dugoni’s Tracy Crosswhite Series. An investigative reporter suffers from a unique form of amnesia resulting from an attack and then years later, chooses to face her past. Tracy remains grounded in her family values and moral compass, while the rest of the investigative force make up an entertaining mix of good and bad behavior. The combination of rich characters and surprise ending makes for a worthy read you won't soon forget.

This is the 9th book in the Tracy Crosswhite series but can be read as a stand-alone. I love this series and alway look forward to a new release. Tracy now works on cold cases and this one is about a missing person from 25 years ago. Lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing And a different ending

My thanks to Thomas and Mercer, Robert Dugoni, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of What She Found. This book is to be published on August 23rd. I have loved the Tracy Crosswhite series from the beginning and What She Found is the perfect addition! Each book is so well-paced with great characters and an inventive storyline. In this installment, the cold case which is the subject of this novel revolves around an investigative reporter missing for 24 years and the stories with which she was involved at the time of her disappearance. As Tracy begins to investigate, she finds the story goes deeper than just a missing person. There’s a short story in this series, called The Last Line, about past events referred to in this book. You don’t need to have read it to follow this story, but it would be beneficial. I had no idea that these two stories were connected when I started What She Found, but it certainly helped to further my enjoyment by filling in all the subtle gaps between the present and the past. The ending was a bit dissatisfying as it felt unresolved, but it does set up future cases/potential issues for Tracy that I think Dugoni will continue to pursue this storyline in Crosswhite #10 and beyond.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for an advance copy of What She Found, the ninth novel to feature Seattle PD cold case detective Tracy Crosswhite.

Tracy is approached by Anita Childress and asked to look into the twenty five year old disappearance of her mother, Lisa, who was a talented and dogged investigative reporter. Tracy starts by exploring the stories Lisa was working on and discovers some explosive secrets that test her loyalties.

I thoroughly enjoyed What She Found, which is an absorbing tale of wrongdoing with some excellent twists. I would never have guessed some of the turns it takes as they are both novel and inventive with some seeming incredible but which are based in fact. I must admit though that I was a bit disappointed in the conclusion as not everyone gets their comeuppance in satisfactory ways. This resolution is realistic as not everything can be proved, which seems to reflect certain situations in the USA today, but as fiction it was disappointing.

I was glued to the pages from start to finish, wondering what was coming next, and read it in one sitting. I find a novel that is told from one point of view immersive so I was able to get stuck into Tracy’s investigation without distraction. And what an investigation it is. There are twists and bombshell revelations, but mostly the novel is concerned with trying to find proof of twenty five year old crimes, so that doesn’t work out too well. At least the reader finds out what happened.

Tracy used to be part of a team, but now she’s a team of one in the Cold Case Department. On the plus side she gets more regular hours and family time and theoretically less time pressure in her investigations. On the minus side it’s a lonelier job with staffing issues - she has to do everything herself. It seems to suit her, so she’s content with her life.

What She Found is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Fabulous author read many of his books! This one was very good - it had an intriguing cold case and so many trails to follow, and Tracy did it well. Compulsive, gripping and horrifying! Will keep you on the edge of your seat!

What She Found is the latest thriller in the Tracy Crosswhite series. Still working cold cases, Tracy gets a call from a woman whose mother has been missing for twenty-five years. Anita Childress wants to know what happened to her mother Lisa who was an investigative reporter looking in to multiple cases that could have caused her to disappear. Tracy dives in and quickly finds out the detectives did not look any further than the husband. The brass is putting pressure on Tracy to clear cases but Tracy is like a dog with a bone on a case and she will find out what happened to Lisa. In a twisted story of suspense, Tracy looks in to the past full of drug running and police corruption that tie into her missing person case. The story is full of twists and turns for a page turning suspenseful mystery that Dugoni always delivers. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.

I've said it before and at the risk of being a "tired old record", I'll say it again, I am so HAPPY when a new Tracey Crosswhite book appears. Then to get an ARC of the latest TC book is like heaven. Tracey is what brought me to Robert Dugoni and she keeps me coming back, but his other books are also gems in his writer's crown. I LOVED The Extraordinary Life of Same Hell and The World Played Chess with a passion, but Tracey is my first Dugoni reading love.

Tracey is as dedicated a Police Detective as I've ever known in my over thirty years of law enforcement experience. Once she latches onto a case she is relentless and has to be in her new assignment as the Cold Case Detective.

This time she tackles a nearly twenty five year old missing person's case at the behest of the victim's daughter and much to the chagrin of her Chief. In the process she uncovers corruption in her own department that may involve one of her mentors. Reluctant to take the shine off the reputation of her partner, Del, Tracey nonetheless digs in and uncovers criminal activity in a now defunct unit of the Seattle P.D. If you have read Dugoni's short story about the early career of Del Castiglioni, The Last Line, you will understand how this all comes together in a neat package. Is Tracey able to close the package up with a neat bow and put the bad guys, some cops, in this case in jail? You will need to read the book. Keep in mind what Faz says and I paraphrase, sometimes you have to accept what you can't change.

I know I rave, but I do enjoy these books so very much. One of the key reasons is how well Tracey, a female detective in a male dominated job and unit, is depicted. She's a slice of reality! It seems clear to me that Dugoni has done his homework well. So well that I wouldn't mind sitting down to a big Italian meal and a glass of wine with Tracey to debrief an interrogation or plan an investigative strategy. She's the as close to the real deal as fiction can get.

Thank you, #RobertDugoni and #NetGalley for this ARC. It was a good read!

What She Found – Robert Dugoni

Detective Tracy Crosswhite is working cold cases now and takes a call from a woman that piques her interest. Many years ago, a young investigative reporter Lisa Childress, left her husband and young daughter to meet with an informant, and was never seen again. Despite a lengthy investigation, with Lisa’s husband being the prime suspect, not trace of the woman was ever found. Anita, her daughter, has never stopped looking for answers and hopes that Tracy can help discover what happened all those years ago.

With little to go on other than some personal notes & published works of Lisa’s that Anita provides, Tracy begins the painstaking work of trying to piece together the storylines that Lisa was working on the night she disappeared, including pieces on political corruption, drug trafficking, as well as the infamous Route 99 serial killer. A visit to the flamboyant detective who originally investigated her disappearance doesn’t yield much new information – the main focus at the time was on Lisa’s husband, who was then vilified by the press and doesn’t not want a repeat of those baseless accusations.

As Tracy starts digging deeper, she realizes that one of her old partners may know more than he’s willing to share – and as some of the Lisa’s seemingly separate investigations begin to overlap, a stunning discovery leaves Tracy with even more questions, and hopefully some long-awaited answers. Yet, there are those – from past and present - who will do anything to keep old secrets safely in the past…

I LOVE this series and am overjoyed to see Tracy return to the pages once more. Smart, sassy and determined to deliver the truth, no matter the consequences, Tracy is a hero for anyone who loves a good, action-packed, who-dun-it. A fabulous must-read series!

This is the 9th book in Dugoni's Detective Tracy Crosswhite series. However, this book can also be read as a stand alone crime thriller. 5 stars! I love how the Author weaves together a select few of the characters' back stories to explain how a case became an open "cold" case.
I swear each book in this series is different but EXCELLENT. If you havent read any of these books yet, you are in for a wonderful surprise.

In “What She Found” (Tracy Crosswhite #9), by Robert Dugoni we are brought back into the life of Detective Tracy Crosswhite. She has agreed to look into a disappearance that happened twenty-four years ago. Lisa Childress was an investigative reporter who simply just disappeared. But as Tracy delves into the case, she soon realizes that there is way more than meets the eye and the skeletons she is digging up could cause harm to those close to her.

The ever-loving Italian cobs, Faz and Del are back as is Dan (and the house destroying Rex and Sherlock).

I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Detective Tracy Crosswhite is in the cold case unit and is asked to looked into the disappearance of a report, Lisa Childress nearly 25 years ago. Lisa disappeared without a trace one night leaving behind her young daughter and husband. Running through old details, Tracy comes across a drug running enterprise that may have been linked at the time. However the nearer she gets, the more danger Tracy faces.
An enjoyable book, first in the series for me, not sure if I have missed any previous essentials but read well as a standalone.

The ninth entry in the Tracy Crosswhite series is another compelling read that examines police corruption and how far some will go to cover up a crime. When a reporter asks Tracy to examine her mother's case she is initially hesitant. Lisa Childress disappeared 25 years ago; her husband was the main suspect and her daughter was devastated. Tracy ultimately decides to dig deeper on the case and ends up unearthing some disturbing details about her department. The case takes a surprising turn two thirds of the way through the book, which sends the investigation into a whole different direction. The ending of the book felt unresolved, but it does setup future cases/ potential problems for Tracy. I've read all of the books in the series and have enjoyed all of them. Tracy Crosswhite is a determined investigator who doesn't back down. I look forward to the next book in the series. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

My thanks to Thomas and Mercer, as well as to NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of What She Found!

I have loved the Tracy Crosswhite series from the beginning and What She Found is the perfect addition! Investigative reporter Lisa Childress disappeared 24 years ago and her daughter has asked for Tracy's assistance in finding out what happened to Lisa, no matter the outcome. Tracy works Cold Cases so it should be easy to take a look at this cold case, right? Wrong!! Tracy finds herself being thwarted by members of her former team and even by the Captain of the precinct. Tracy, being the dogged and determined detective she is, is unwilling to let it go.

I so loved the characters in What She Found. Henderson was an inspiration. I can't remember the name of the aging hippie on the houseboat but he was hilarious! I also loved reading about Tracy's home life. Her wonderful husband. Her sweet baby. Her funny dogs. Another great book from Mr. Dugoni!!

A really good read which is number 9 in a series of books but I only read some of the others and have enjoyed all of them that I have read, a good story with likeable characters and well written x

I was given this by NetGalley for an honest review - -Once again Dugoni writes a winner!
Investigative reporter Lisa has disappeared. - - 25 years later her daughter wants the cold case solved - her dad was accused of murdering mom, others said she run away, others thought she was murdered because of the story she was working on. What really happened to Lisa. But as Tracy opens the cold case rumors of wrong doing by cops and drug task force began to come to light.
Can Tracy take down people she respects that may have done wrong?

This continues to be one of my absolutely favorite series of all time. Whether listened to as an audiobook, as I did with many of the previous books, or read as words on the page, Dugoni's stories leap to life as soon as you begin them. Tracy Crosswhite is such a fabulous character, and the cast that supports her is equally as rich and nuanced. I really loved getting more of Del's backstory this time around, and found it every bit as engaging and complex as the big man himself.

As always, the current case Tracy was confronted with was a fascinating one, involving everything from murder to corruption to amnesia to bear spray, and it's resolution as a stand-alone story would be enough to make this a fabulous read. Add to that the continuing development of Tracy's relationships with her friends and family, and her continuing personal development giving her own family tragedies, and this series just keeps getting better and better.

This is the first time I am reading a book from this author. This book made me curious. I was just so wondering what the hell happened and I couldn't drop the book. The writing style was perfect and easy to understand. Good book.

What She Found is the ninth book in the wonderfully compelling Tracy Crosswhite series, about a Seattle homicide detective who solves Cold Cases, usually involving missing women. I’ve read all of the full novels in order, but think they would work as stand-alone mysteries, although Tracy’s relationships with her colleagues and family are a major strength of this series. I was delighted to be approved for an ARC, and bumped this to the top of my reading queue. It’s not the strongest of the series, but still delivers an enjoyable police procedural that should keep established fans happy.

Months after the events of In Her Tracks, Tracy is winding up that investigation and ready to take on a new case, when a young newspaper reporter asks her to look into the disappearance of her mother twenty-four years earlier. Lisa Childress vanished after arranging a late night meeting with a source when her daughter Anita was only two. The police suspected her husband, but the case went nowhere due to a lack of witnesses and evidence. Now Anita wants Tracy to try again, opening up links to the past which will threaten one of her closest friends.

There’s a short story in this series, called The Last Line, which I haven’t read yet, about past events referred to here. Obviously you don’t need to have read it to follow this story, but it probably would’ve been better to read that first. While there are mentions of a (yawn) serial killer being one of the possible explanations for Lisa’s disappearance, I’m happy to reassure readers that this is ruled out early - I have a particular disdain for detective series bringing them in to every book. This takes the investigation into a different direction, and while not as exciting as some of the earlier books, the eventual reveal was in many ways more satisfying. Tracy continues to grow as a character and I enjoyed the snippets of her home life with her giant dogs and cute baby, and her refreshingly conflict-free marriage to the gorgeous Dan.

The author’s note explains that he has consciously decided to keep Covid-19 out of his books in order not to upset readers who want an escape from it. I can respect this stance without agreeing with it, you just have to accept that they are progressing in an alternate reality that nevertheless does include mentions of defunding the police as an issue. This book has minimal violence and isn’t as dark as some of the earlier ones which was a welcome relief.

Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the ARC. I am posting this honest review voluntarily.
What She Found is published on August 23rd.

I always devour Robert Dugoni's books, especially the Tracy Crosswhite series. I was excited to see a new addition to this series and thank NetGalley for my free copy!

I always love Dugoni's ability to jump into a story quickly, with many layers of plot. My only criticism is when things like Amazon's Alexa are mentioned in the stories, such as the last couple books. It feels forced when these happen, detract from the read in my opinion, and I can't help but wonder if Amazon as the editors/publishers has some secondary gain…. For this I have downgraded to 4 stars.

Regardless I enjoy these reads and recommend.
