I’m a huge fan of the second chance romance trope and the small town setting, and really enjoyed all the book by Kerry Winfrey so far, so I was excited to read this one; well, I’m happy to say Just Another Love Song is my new favorite by the author. It was sweet, funny, full of a great set of characters and a charming small town. I loved it!
Just Another Love Song by Kerry Winfrey was a really cute small town second chance romance novel.
Sandy and Hank were high school sweethearts. In high school, they both planned on leaving their home town, Hank to pursue a music career and Sandy to pursue her art. But when Sandy’s scholarship to art school falls through, everything changes. Afraid she’s holding Hank back, Sandy ends things because she believes it’s what’s best for him. Now, years later he comes back to their town for a visit and gets recruited to help with the town fair, which Sandy is a big part of planning, so they are forced to spend time together. Will they be able to leave their romance in the past and forge a true friendship, or will sparks fly again?
Overall, thought this book was a really enjoyable read. Second chance romance is my favorite trope, so that was a huge plus for me. I also liked the characters, the small town setting and the town fair that brings the whole town together to celebrate. I also really got a kick out of all of the Sister Wives references.
I adored her last novel and so went into this one with high expectations...and she didn't let me down.
Sandy and Hank were high school sweethearts and had such big dreams, that they wanted to achieve together. But when Sandy's college scholarship fell through and she had to stay in Baileyville for community college, while Hank went off to music school...things started to fall apart.
The two of them built new lives, Sandy took over the local nursery and Hank got married, had a kid, and made it as a country music star. But neither of them ever really got over the other. So when Hank is suddenly back in town (15 years later), Sandy's world turns upside down and she starts to question all of her life choices.
I don't usually love second chance stories, but this one was so beautifully written. It wasn't all sunshine and roses though, it felt real and certainly had its challenges and rough moments. Baileyville sounds like such a delightful place too...I wish I could actually visit and meet all the wonderful supporting characters.
If this one isn't already on your TBR you should add it!
I will forever and always prefer to listen to Kerry Winfrey’s books. I started reading her work via audio and it just stuck. Everything she’s released so far I’ve experienced via audiobook. Just Another Love Song, Winfrey’s latest, was verification that I am set in my ways when it comes to this. Y’all, I just loved the audiobook of Just Another Love Song. Sandy has always wanted to leave Baileyville and go on to art school. She always thought she would bounce from town and go on to bigger and better things at college with her boyfriend, Hank. As it turns out, those plans fall through. Sandy and Hank also break up post-college. Sandy ends up stuck in Baileyville, which she has made peace with. She owns the greenhouse/garden store and lives right by her best friend. Hank went on to become a famous country star and have a son.
Fifteen years later, Hank is back in town. It’s summer. Sandy is happy with her life, but wishes she had someone to share it with. Unfortunately, she’s already dated through the eligible men of Baileyville. She keeps busy though — especially with planning the fair. This time around, Hank volunteers beside her. It may just be Sandy’s second chance. Also, she adores Hank’s son. Y’all, I loved this audiobook. The fair part did really give me Pawnee Harvest Festival vibes, however. But, I just loved the path that Sandy and Hank’s love story took. And all the tropes. Also, all the characters. The audiobook of Just Another Love Song is narrated by Justis Bolding. It is 9 hours and 51 minutes long. I found the audiobook to be utterly captivating and am so glad I listened.
Just a nice fun read. I likely won't remember any of it by next week though as I can no longer even remember the main characters names, sort of like a hallmark movie.
I have loved this authors previous works and am so excited I got to eat an early copy of Just Another Love Song. I thought it was so good! If you enjoy light hearted, fun books and Hallmark movies, definitely check this sweet book out!

This was my first Kerry Winfrey book--gasps, I know--but I can't wait to go back and read her others, now!
Sandy and Hank were quintessential high school sweethearts, planning to get out of their small town and make a name for themselves together. But when Sandy stayed behind to care for her sick mother, and Hank went on to become a famous musician, that was the beginning of the end for the couple. Now, fifteen years later, Hank is surprisingly back in town and seemingly trying to win Sandy over. Time doesn't heal all wounds, but forced proximity might, when the two are thrown together working on a town festival.
With a few unexpected surprises, celebrity allure, and small town romance, this book checks all the boxes! Not overly exciting but certainly feel-good, this is a romance I can see turning back to.
Thanks to Berkley for my eARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
5 stars - 8/10
Give me all the second chance, celebrity, return to small town home town romances.
This was such a cute read. I love Sandy, her greenhouse and the way she helped out around town.
Hank was such a great love interest. I loved hearing about their history, I loved that he was a country music singer and I loved how excited the town was to have him there.
Overall, a cute, sweet and charming love story.
3.5 stars
This was a cute second-chance, small town romance.
I really enjoyed that there was almost zero angst between Sandy and Hank as they find their way to an HEA. Sometimes I just need a good story that lets me escape but doesn't evoke too many emotions. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a palette cleanser read.
*I received an ARC from NetGalley for voluntary review.
Okay fun fact: Kerry Winfrey lives in my area and because of that she is an auto=buy for me because she stole my heart with Waiting for Tom Hanks and Not Like the Movies (both based in my city!).
I really enjoyed Just Another Love Song! A Country music star and a second chance romance all wrapped in one. The characters have fantastic chemistry and I really found myself cheering them on from the sidelines.
Kerry Winfrey always hits the mark for me. Her books are cozy and this one is no exception! The country angle reminded me of THIS THING CALLED LOVE.
Just Another Love Song was cute! I loved the characters who totally had names that felt disjointed and outdated, but oddly fit extremely well together.
Sandy is still living in her hometown with her own business and a kind heart that helps out her parents whenever she can. She's loved in the community and is known for her authentic generosity and kindness towards others. Imagine Sandy's surprise when her high school sweetheart, Hank, shows up in town. Now a famous country singer, Hank is big time! From star athlete (big fish in a small pond- hometown hero) to a nationally known singer, Hank is home and sticking around for a bit (much to Sandy's dismay). All these years later, and this man still makes her heart beat faster.
I adore books that give second chances at love! I really enjoyed this book and must admit that I preferred it as an audiobook to the written text. The narrator was good and kept the story engaging all the way through.
I would be negligent if I did not mention what irked me about this book. Sorry y'all, but this summer as I've read so many romances, one theme continues to pop up is female MCs with self-doubt and toxic self-images; and it's gotten old and quite frankly I find it off-putting. Female MCs can be strong, professionally successful, ambitious and passionate, while also having significant life experiences that impact them and create MOMENTS of self-doubt. Sandy unfortunately fell into the perpetually self-doubting, I've been left behind, and woe is me kind of character.
Thank you Penguin Random House, Berkley Romance, and Penguin Random House Audio for the free book and audiobook to review!
I really enjoyed this one! A small town second chance romance has my name written all over it! Add in that Hank is a country music star. Also add in all of the 90s song references and it was almost perfect for me! Sandy and Hank dated in high school but Hank went away to college and Sandy had to stay behind. She broke up with him so she wouldn't hold him back so he could fly. He did fly but now he's back and wants her back.
"I was just Baileyville Sandy, and I always would be."
"I don't want to be your friend. I want to be your everything."
i thought this was cute and fun! to be honest, it didn't particularly stand out for me, but i thought the characters were nice, the friendships and family were lovely, and i do enjoy a second chance romance!
Sandy always had a thing for Hank, her high school sweetheart, but the timing wasn’t right, she didn’t get to go away to college and Hank became a well-known country music singer. I love that the novel is full of old school song hits.
Sandy’s best friend, Honey, is one of my favorite characters, especially her extroverted personality. I think many of us can connect with Sandy’s youthful ignorance and uncertainty, which makes her all the more endearing as a main character.
I liked Hank, but the story is told only from Sandy’s perspective- I wish we would have had a couple chapters from his perspective- I bet they would have been great!
The small Ohio town Sandy and Hank grew up in just reminds me of Main Street USA where life is good. I haven’t read a novel with a country theme recently and it was refreshing and brough on some serious fall vibes with all the Town Fair talk and cabins built on hills.
If you enjoy second chances, small towns, sweet main characters, stellar supporting roles and some country music incorporated, go for this one, it is cute!
This is a cute friends to lovers second chance romance with a very well written small town setting. This is such a fun entertaining read from beginning to end and though I wasn’t much of a fan of Sandy the mc, I loved Hank.
Second Chance Romances are everywhere right now! In Just Another Love Song, Sandy reunites with her high school love interest after he becomes a major country music sensation and comes back to their hometown. He’s now divorced with a young son, but he still has eyes for Sandy.
Sandy was supposed to go away to college, but after her scholarship falls through, she decides to stay local and go to the community college where her father works. She lets this one decision dictate the next decade of her life and stays in her hometown. Sandy doesn’t really seem happy at all with her life. She constantly tells herself she’s happy, but she really doesn’t come across this way. Once Hank comes back to town and they work together on the annual town fair preparations, they quickly fall back into what they once had.
I thought this was a cute story, but Sandy really seemed miserable to me. She was always reminding herself that she was happy, but she really seemed jealous of everyone who got to move away and see the world. I did love the relationship between Sandy and Hank, and then eventually Sandy and his young son too.
Thank you to @berkleypub and @berkleyromance for my gifted ebook.
Another wonderful novel by Kerry Winfrey. Each of her books brings you to an idea place with characters you want to be your friends. I want to live right next to my best friend, in a small town full of quickly locals like Hotpants Ed, and attend a fair at the end of every summer. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced read.
I adore Kerry Winfrey's books because they're sweet without being saccharine and predictable without being boring. She also writes some of the snappiest dialogue I can remember reading recently, which makes me hope that her books are being translated to the TV or film media.
Sandy and Hank were high school sweethearts in a small town, but they were the kind of couple that everyone assumed would go the distance. But Hank goes off to college while Sandy has to stay behind, and then he breaks into the country music scene, and now the only place Sandy can hear his voice is on the radio. But he comes back to town unexpectedly, and sparks are rekindled as they navigate their past, present and future while questioning everything they've done that has brought them here.
Full of quirky, memorable characters, this is like "Gilmore Girls" in book form: It will make you insanely happy.
Thank you to @netgalley and @berkleyromance for my gifted copy of Just Another Love Song, by Kerry Winfrey! This cute romcom is out now, and is an adorable look at a second chance at love.
I enjoyed Just Another Love Song. I thought the romance was precious and adorable (even if I did want to have a serious chat with Sandy), and that the small town setting added a lot to it. The setting almost seemed to be another character in the book, if that makes sense.
