'1,000 Ideas by 100 Manga Artists' by Cristian Campos is a collection of ideas, humor and insight from all kinds of manga artists.
20 questions are posed to various manga artists from amateur to established pro. They select 10 to answer. They also supply 10 samples of their work, or in some cases their workspace, tools, etc. A short bio is given of each featured artist.
This book is a good resource for those looking to break in to manga or those just interested in the creative process. The variety of skill level as well as geographic diversity was interesting to me.
Its cool to see so many styles outside the classic "manga" style that most people think of. The small interviews from each of the artist is inspirational.
This would make a great book for an artist to use as a reference book.
Brilliant idea for budding manga artists.
Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publishers for this advance copy to read.
Huge thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the authors for providing an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All of the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I was super excited to request this especially considering a lot of the mangakas' names I recognized!
It definitely lived up to its hype! This book is packed full of ideas for not just artists, manga readers or anime watchers but for anyone interested in storytelling and artistry.
I will definitely be recommending this book to my circle!
Overall rating: 5/5 stars
This is an interesting book where 100 different manga artists of all types and talent levels answered the same 10 questions and also shows photos of their work. I didn't find the questions that interesting so it didn't really feel like 1000 different tips but more like a really repetitive set of interviews. I would have much preferred if they asked the artists themselves to submit 10 tips or thoughts each!
The photos were interesting but some were definitely more appealing to me than others. I ultimately ended up really scrolling through because it felt so redundant and I wasn't inspired by a lot of the art. I'm not a manga artist though, and if this was my passion then perhaps I'd devour every one.
This would make a great gift or library read for an aspiring manga artist or manga fan.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.
This book was pretty interesting, but it was hard for me to read (because of the formatting). I liked seeing the different workspaces and art styles of the different artists though. I would be interested in a physical copy of this book.
1,000 Ideas by 100 Manga Artists is an interesting and well curated collection of visual ideas edited by Cristian Campos as part of the 1000 ideas series. Originally published in 2011, this reformat and re-release from15th March by Quarto on their Chartwell imprint is 320 pages and is available in flexibound format.
This is an interesting concept book - the editors chose 100 manga artists and sent the same 20 questions to each of them.including practical artistic tips as well as larger life philosophy type things with the codicil that each artist had to choose 10 questions to answer. The responses are varied and interesting as well as enlightening. Roughly half the respondents are Japanese, the rest include European artists and some from the Americas. The artists provided the answers along with 10 illustrations which represented their answers.
Like all collections, there are some which are purely illustrative, some which tell a story, and some which honestly missed me altogether. As a whole, however, I found paging through the collection interesting and rewarding.
This is the sort of book to page through during an idle day. The artists included represent a vast array of different styles and media. It would be a superlative selection for public library acquisition, maker's spaces/art collectives, and the artist's home library. There's ample inspiration here for drawing and technique. The volume also includes a short bio of the artists and many have included links to their internet sites.
Four stars. Lots of worthwhile reading to be found here and art for inspiration.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Chartwell Books for providing this eARC in return for an honest review.
1000 Ideas by 100 Manga Artists, in my opinion, is more of a selection of interviews and their answers than tips. It is still a very interesting read, but I expected more how-tos- which is more than likely an error on my part and my expectations.
This is a fantastic read for anyone interested in drawing or creating their own Manga. Its a big composition of many answered questions manga artists could possibly come across and offers a massive pool of advice and suggestions from experienced creators. 1000 Ideas is more than you could picture from the get go, and going through this book some things were mentioned that would have never crossed my mind.
Overall this is a great tool for Manga fans/creators and exists as a very helpful resource to visit and learn from.
Thank you to Quarto and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
1,000 Ideas by 100 Manga Artists by Cristian Campos is a lovely collection of quotes and artwork by manga artists. According to the description, this book is "brimming with visual inspiration and sage advice" and has an "abundance of illustrations, sketches, and photographs." Whether you're an artist or a manga reader, this book is sure to inspire you.
Overall, 1,000 Ideas by 100 Manga Artists is an inspirational book that is the perfect gift for the manga lover in your life. One highlight of this book is that it is filled with plenty of colorful and vibrant images. The artwork is definitely lovely, which is a huge plus. If I had to complain about 1 thing, I would say that I didn't recognize any of the manga artists. I still enjoyed reading this book though. If you're intrigued by the description, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in March!
