This book was okay for me, it didn't flow nicely and was really wordy and choppy. I usually enjoy enemies to lover romcom but this was just a little childish and just fell flat for me. It was nice getting to get feel of Toyko and it was kind of cute but it wasn't for me!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC
Will come back at a later day to fill in my full review for this book as I have a better in-depth review saved elsewhere.
This reads very juvenile in writing and I couldn’t get past wrong facts present in this - how can you be an identical twin of opposite sexes and separate embryonic sacs?? Impossible… and the argument scenes between her and the mom were abrupt and unrealistic. And how annoying was she during the flight! Yikes! DNF’d at 20%.
A Warm Rainy Day in Tokyo was unfortunately not the book for me. When reading this novel, the writing style did not flow. It felt choppy, i.e., at times it was difficult for me to understand what the author was conveying through their narration. The switch from first person to third person narration when switching POV’s also caused me to feel a disconnect from the characters and the story, I unfortunately did not finish this book, but would not be opposed to trying out something else from the author in the future. Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for this ARC!
I loved the premise of this book, but I couldn’t get past the first chapter. The writing was not good and unfortunately should’ve gone through a couple more rounds of edits.
This turned to be absolutely not the style of writing/storymaking I am used to and I did not like this book as much.
The book had a small amount of Japan in it and was quite cute and beautiful. I thought Ryo was great, but Bella was just so-so. He and his family had interesting personalities. But to me, their romance seemed awkward and a little forced.
as someone who identifies as japanese-american, i was extremely excited to dive into a book that highlights my ancestor’s home country and its customs, landmarks, and foods! on that front, this novel did not disappoint and i felt like taking a trip down memory lane as bella was introduced to all the sights and tastes tokyo has to offer. i was equally looking forward to the romance aspect of this book because it isn’t often that i get to read novels with main characters that also identify themselves as aapi. however, the plot - which is dual pov - seemed to revolve around ryo and bella having separate sub-plots. i thought bella was very brave to take on a new country on her own but she made multiple friends within her apartment complex that helped her navigate tokyo. i quickly came to admire her flatmates and noticed how supportive they were, however i think that they (the sisters) sometimes overshadowed the relationship between bella and ryo. the two of them have different goals they’re aiming to accomplish; for bella, that’s coordinating the little bear … and for ryo it’s being there for his family. i was expecting there to be more chemistry but they didn’t get as much one-on-one time and by the ends, i saw them more as “friends” rather than “lovers.”
This book is EVERYTHING!!! I love a good enemies to lover book, and Kana Wu did not disappoint! That coupled with the absolutely glorious descriptions of Tokyo and the culture, well - it was just completely up my alley and I am utterly obsessed. Bella and Ryo are fantastic protagonists and their relationship evolution is delectable. So well written, couldn't recommend enough!
The book was very cute and adorable, with a little dose of Japan in it. Bella was so and so, but i really liked Ryo. He was an interesting character and so was his familiy. But their romance felt somewhat forced and wierd to me.
2.5 - 2.80 stars.
I feel like Kana Wu’s book, A Warm Rainy Day in Tokyo, was neglected by her editors. The novel was rife with grammatical errors and awkward word choices. I understand that Kana may be a non-native English speaker, but her editing team should have helped her more before publishing this novel. Instead, I struggled through unauthentic dialogue. Besides the dialogue, the writing style felt unpolished and stilted, like a collection of ideas were run through Google Translate and assembled into paragraphs.
The story showed promise, but Bellalina Bell (really though) was juvenile and unendearing. I could not reconcile the Bella that a company would choose to send to Tokyo for two months to train staff with the Bella who had a toddler-like tantrum when her mother forbade her to travel overseas. Bella even waved her phone with typed Google Translate messages to argue with a stranger in a Tokyo shop that he should relinquish a keychain he had selected because she decided that she wanted it.
This novel, with revision, might have been a sweet romance, but instead, it was a struggle for me.
Oh what a lovely LOVELY book!!!! This was my first time to read a book by Kana Wu and I wasn't expecting a lot with it. I was only attracted to it because the story is mostly based in Japan and I wanted to travel a bit to Japan. But oh wow! What a wonderful surprise! I LOVED, i mean, a absolutely ADORED this book!!!! From first to last page! This is so well written, so much fun to read, the characters are very well built and the setting is perfect! And the romance in it is funny and beautiful at the same time! I am giving this book a 5 stars out of 5!!!! I hope to read more books my Kana Wu in the future!!!!

Thank you to Netgalley for approving this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This one is set in Japan, as soon as I found that out I just had to request it. The places that Bella went to brought back so many memories for me. And through her excitement, I got to relive some of those memories again for the first time. Reading this really made me miss Japan so much.
I really wanted to like this book, it had everything I typically love in a book. However, the characters just didn't feel real to me, and sad to say, this made them quite forgettable. I also found Bella to be very childish in how she acted. There were a couple of scenes where she really p***ed me off, which made me want to not finish this book.
I wanted to like the romance since it had its share of cute moments, however, Bella and Ryo went from enemies to lovers in what felt like the blink of an eye. They also had no banter and it didn't feel like there was any chemistry between them.
This is the type of book you read inside your cozy house on a rainy day, regardless of where you are. It’s a nice, contemporary romance. The two main characters Bella and Ryo start falling for each it and it’s such a cute romance.
This is also the kind of book I’d make my mother read. There’s barely any bad language, and it’s very appropriate.
It’s definitely targeted towards “enemies to lovers,” but it’s not really that. More rivalry/annoyance.
That wording sometimes can get a bit iffy, but English it the authors second language, so there’s a bit of slack on that one.
Other than that, I really enjoyed it. 3.5 stars rounded to 4.
Whoa! What a ride. It was very fast-paced. The writing style kept me hooked and I didn't find myself losing any interest. I enjoyed getting to know each of the characters and how real the story felt. The author did a great job painting the setting, so it was easy for me to visualize the scene played out before me. I recommend giving this one a chance!
Fun fact about me i love love. And i love reading stories about love so when i saw this book i just had to read it and loved every bit of this book
I loved the writing and the plot and how the main characters had a chance to shine. It was just amazing
So if you're looking for something beautiful to curl up to or something to make your heart swoon then this is your book. Also if you're dreaming of travelling like i am. This is your book.
I don't know why it took me so long to start reading this book, but once I finally got around to it, it was almost impossible to put it down!
Although there were times when Bella almost drove me crazy (that scene on the plane, oh my god!), our protagonist finally redeems herself and becomes a lovable character. The author describes in a simple, direct and highly emotional style the conflicts faced by Bella, Ryo, Sara and her friends, bringing the story to a bittersweet and highly anticipated climax.
Excellent story, although I don't recommend starting this book in the afternoon, unless the reader doesn't want to sleep that night!
While it was certainly not the best, it was also not bad. Overall, I have pretty lukewarm feelings about the book. I had a nice time reading it but I didn't feel especially connected to either of the characters.
Twenty-two year old Bella works as a trainer for a cafe company that sells franchises of its cafes. When she gets the opportunity to train individuals at a new Japanese franchise, she's eager and excited. Her mother, less so, as she'd rather Bella get on and go to university, instead of relying solely on her high school diploma.
Ryo is a young man of Japanese descent working for a company in the US. He has a very ill twin, resident in Japan, and when he hears that her health is degrading, quits his job and moves back to Japan to be near his family,
Ryo meets Bella on the plane over, and neither thinks much of the other on the long flight over, sitting next to each other.
When Bella finally arrives in Japan, she's falls in love with many of the sights, scenes and foods she experiences. Ryo, meanwhile, though missing the US, tries to fit back into life in Tokyo. Both Bella and Ryo keep encountering each other, and eventually become attracted to one another, and start a relationship.
I wish main character Bella had been more likable and credible for a romantic prospect for Ryo. Her behaviour (frequently described by the author as "whining") really irritated me. She was otherwise competent at her job, so not a total loss as a character.
I liked Ryo, but just could not see why he was attracted to Bella.
Thank you to Netgalley and to Bellwind Books for this ARC in exchange for my review.
I enjoyed this book a LOT! This is not a spicy book, so if that's what you're looking for - this is not it. This book is a dual POV. It is about Bella who gets sent to Tokyo for her job. Her company is opening a new location in Tokyo and she is responsible for training the new employees. Then we have Ryo, who is currently living in the states, but he has to quit his job and move back home to Tokyo as his twin sister is ill. Bella and Ryo end up sitting next to each other on the plane and the rest is history.
Ryo goes from "The Frowner" nickname and being the ultimate grump to the most endearing and charming character. Ughhhh, I LOVE Ryo!!!
The writing made me feel like I was there with them exploring Tokyo. This book had me in my feels. I was laughing, tearing up, angry, swooning....ughh, I couldn't get enough! I also really loved all of the side characters and what they brought to the story. Ryo's relationship with his sister really pulled at my heartstrings
